  1. The bit that confused me most about Monica's storyline was that she met Victor before her husband died / was killed and therefore before she stole her sister in law Monica's identity. So did Victor first meet her as Lauren or Monica? Did she lie about her name with him from the outset?

Also Jackson's death was ruled inconclusive therefore why did she have to steal Monica's identity? She wasn't being accused of anything so why change her name?

Also if trying to hide her identity why give Eva her name "Lauren Trammell"? Surely it makes far more sense to give Eva the Reyes name.

    1. It covers her tracks better
    2. Victor wanted her to have his name
    3. Why would she fight to give her daughter the name of the man who abused both her and her sister? The man she killed?
    4. Why not give Eva the Reyes name and drop the Trammell as soon as she remarried?

    It doesn't make any sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I noticed several people are upset with Gideon's comment to Victor about being intimate.  I don't read that scene the same as most of you.

He told Victor they would be mindful of his personal relationship with Eva.  They wouldn't be brazen but they would be intimate.  If they aren't brazen he doesn't plan on shocking Victor but they are married and will kiss, hug, and touch each other at times.  I don't expect that Gideon would have a red dress moment or a trip to NC moment with Victor as driver.   Eva would scream Crossfire loudly.  If Gideon wants to see to Eva's transportation fetish I'm sure he will have Angus or Raul in the drivers seat.

I get the sense that Gideon is aware of some bridges he has to mend with Victor.  In my mind it is fair that he is being honest with him before he takes the job.  I can think of times that I wish my employer gave me additional information about what might be negatives before I said yes.  I agree that Victor will protect Eva more than anyone else.

Agree completely Sharonm745, this was how I took Gideons statement also. That they would still cuddle etc the way they do in the back of the Bentley but that they would be more discreet than usual if Victor were driving the limo!

  3. I think I have figured out my main problem with the Monica storyline, aside from it being overly complicated... The placement was poor. The last 20% of this book and therefore the entire series about Eva and Gideon centred around Monica and her death and her past.

For 2 books we were building toward the second wedding and their happily ever after, and instead we got a sudden death, shock reveals about Monica, Christopher, Anne etc... That by the time I was reading the final page and should have been clutching the book to my heart in delight, instead my mind was still churning over the overload of information about Monica and it fell flat...

If the backstory etc was kept the same but Monica had been killed sooner, it would have given me (and Eva & Gideon) more time to process this information. Their HEA would have felt more real because I had so many silly frustrations with Eva's reaction to losing her mother. Where was their guilt over the fact that the gunman was aiming for them? This was barely touched. Gideon spent almost an entire chapter agonising over lying to Eva and she barely reacted to that etc....

They just seemed to move on rather quickly for people who lost someone in such a sudden and tragic way - baring in mind that the epilogue takes place approximately 3 weeks after Monica is killed!!

Also the sheer volume of information revealed and loose ends that are tied up in that 20% was excessive!

    • Monica's entire life story
    • Anne's plan
    • Christopher's backstory
    • Cary / Trey
    • Victor moving to New York
    • Gideon / Christopher

does anyone agree? Do you think the placement of this storyline so close to the end could have had an impact on your feelings about this book?

  4. The further into Captivated I get the more quotes I find and the more frustrated I get...

Still, the apartment would always be a special place to me. I would never forget the way Eva had looked the first time I'd come over. Naked beneath a thigh-length silk robe, her face made up for the night ahead, a diamond anklet winking at me. Teasing me.

I had lost all rational thought. I'd put my mouth on her, my hands all over her, and my fingers and tongue inside her. I hadn't even thought about getting her to the "fuckpad." I wouldn't have been able to wait, even if I had. She wasn't like any woman who'd come before her. Not just because of who she was, but also because of who I was when I was with her.

    I mean seriously??!

True. I agree with everyone else in saying that there are a few inconsistency with this book, Gideon putting himself in the situation definitely being one of them, he just wouldn't be that careless. I think a major part of the photo scandal was to show how Gideon and Eva have grown as a couple, him calling her immediately after finding out, and her trusting him/not running. The fact that this scenario contradicts what we know about Gideon and what we heard from his perspective/thoughts of only having women in the hotel, kind of takes away. The same thing could have been accomplished simply with a photo of him kissing another women, or something more tame that wasnt as sexual. Like others have mentioned before me I'm not sure how this was missed by the editor.

Yes exactly Socal! I said myself yesterday the point was a valid one it just could have easily been achieved without contradicting essential elements of Gideon's character.

Here is another quote from Captivated with You that is inconsistent with that photo.

But my angel was a dangerous lover, one who got off on the thrill of being this close to discovery. I would never have known I enjoyed that edge if not for her.

There it is in black & white direct from Gideon' thoughts... How did the editors miss that?

I'm thinking that his friends weren't in the Private VIP room when it happened, he could have met them in the club and taken them back to a private room for foreplay

Gideon is a man who is always in control, in all areas of his life, but especially in sexual scenarios. It does not fit into any part of his persona described in books 1-4 that he would be so lost in a sexual encounter with these women that he would be unaware of someone taking his photograph if there was only supposed to be the 3 of them in the room.

It was also stated repeatedly that he only ever had sex at the hotel room "fuckpad" and as he rarely had full sex with these women, it stands to reason that he meant these kind of sex acts...

Im sorry, nothing anyone can say will convince me that this behaviour was inkeeping with Gideon's character. The seperate bachelor / bachelorette parties I can maybe accept but Gideon performing sex acts on random women in semi-public places - just no! Several times he shushes Eva for talking too loudly in public across the series but he performs sex acts where he can be seen. I just don't buy it, he's too cautious of the Cross name and far too private a man especially regarding sex!!!

  7. Yes eve, that is the perfect way to describe it!! This series which I have read repeatedly, and agonised over, and theorised here over, dissecting it, pulling it apart and putting it back together. It is something I have greatly enjoyed over the last few years... And it lost its magic! In fact beyond that, OWY stole the magic. I have forced myself to re-read the other books the last day or so desperately trying to reclaim the magic, and it's not really working and I am so very very disappointed!!

  8. Just to clarify a couple of things regarding VIP rooms and how they work (in the UK at least). Occasionally they are rented out / reserved for private parties, however most of the time they are simply an exclusive room or area of a club reserved for visiting VIPs. When they aren't reserved the staff decide who gets in depending on who's at the club that night - whether any celebrities are there / who's spending highly/ who's best dressed etc...

We know that Gideon spent Cinco de Mayo clubbing with his friends, so it stands to reason that they were also present in the VIP section. In fact, the presence of the photographer who took that photo indicates that the VIP area was not reserved specifically for Gideon and his friends that night and therefore a number of strangers were present, and the area was not private.

Finally I just found a quote from Captivated by You which confirms my belief that these actions were totally out of character with Gideon's persona...

I knew my angel well. Indulging her closet exhibitionism was a complete 360 turnaround for me, and although it still amazed me when I thought about it, I didn't mind in the least.

A complete 360 turnaround for him!!! This part frustrated me greatly especially because it was just so unnecessary!!

Re that business about the inconsistency of Gideon "tagging" those ladies in the VIP section, but then a short time later shushing Eva for talking  to loudly about getting laid - I've always felt that it was Gideon telling Eva to keep it down that seemed odd and sort of inconsistent with his persona, rather than him fooling around with some wild women at a wild party. There were at least a couple of times he referred to indulging aggressive women like that time in SoCal when he was on his way to Brett.

That is true Nrock he did refer a couple of times to 'turning the tables' on sexual predators. However there is a vast difference between shushing Eva for talking too loudly and fingering a woman in public while sucking on another woman's exposed nipple.

I mean this is a man who is recognised pretty much everywhere he goes and photographed on a very regular basis and ok he is in a VIP section of (likely his own) club but that still does not in any way ensure his privacy. At the very least his friends and likely the ladies that they are entertaining are there so there was at no time a guarantee of privacy, in fact it is unlikely that there was even the illusion of privacy! And actually the presence of the photographer Hall(?) makes it unlikely that the VIP section was specifically reserved for Gideon's party that night. It just seems wildly inconsistent with his character to me. A man fiercely protective of his privacy (at least before Eva)...

According to the other books Gideon did not act so brazenly out in public.  Yes, this is foreplay, but so out of the normal from what we were led to believe about Gideon.  He used his f@#$ pad. He is also a successful business man...what is he thinking doing "foreplay" out in public where pictures of the foreplay were taken.  He says he was always in control except when he wanted Eva.  He says he couldn't control himself and broke his rules for her.  Come on here....he was sucking on one woman's nipple and fingering the other.  REALLY GIDEON??!!!  You are a 12 billion dollar business man.  How stupid of you to act this way.  And Sylvia don't confuse us...either he uses the f@#$ pad for all  his sexual encounters  like the first 4 books eluded us too...or he didn't...which is it. It was with Eva only that he lost control away from his f@#$ pad  or so we were to believe.

This is a conversation (from Bared to You) between Gideon and Eva in a VIP section of one of his clubs. There he is afraid of being overheard simply discussing sex, but a few months before he was supposedly performing sex acts on 2 women in a similar environment!

"I can't get you alone for more than a few minutes at a time." - G
"Because the only thing you want to talk about is what you have to do to get laid!" - E
"Christ, Eva," he hissed, squeezing my hand. "Keep your voice down!"

This part of the book really frustrated me. There was no need to contradict a message that had been reinforced throughout the 4 previous books to create drama betweenGideva. It was just so unnecessary. Especially as Eva would likely have had a similar reaction to something more innocent like a woman straddling and kissing him, which would have been more realistic and true to his character.

I posted before that Corinne was just trying to imitate Eva and dress sexier to get Gideon's attention such as the red strapless dress and stillettos. Just as Magdalene was trying to imitate Corinne in BTY.

Below is a direct quote from Gideon's thoughts the first time he see Corinne after her suicide attempt.

Corinne's elegant blouse and trousers were notably like something I'd once seen my mother wear.

    - is this a coincidence or does Corinne deliberately attempt to emulate Elizabeth? Is this something she has always done? The resemblance between the 2 woman is often talked about. Having seen that tactic is no longer working, is she now trying to imitate Eva? She knows that Eva wore a red dress on their first date & clearly she caught Gideon's attention.

  12. And from Chapter 7, these are my notes on the first time we see Corinne from Gideon's POV. The differences between his reactions to Corinne and Eva's to Brett are what struck me most!

I steeled myself to deal with my mother again. Then her head turned and I saw it was Corinne.
    - Emphasises just how similar these 2 women are in appearance.

...her eyes brightened with a look I'd come to recognise, having seen it on Eva's face. It gave me no pleasure to see that warmth in Corinne's eyes. Unease slid down my spine, stiffening my back.
    - Consider the difference in Gideon's reaction to affection from Corinne in comparison to Eva's reaction with Brett.

I kept the glass clear and didn't remove my jacket, sending her every signal that she shouldn't settle in for long.
    - Eva on the other hand, having attended the video premiere with Brett, then had dinner with him and then invited him up to her apartment because she "can't think of a reason not to". How about I'm tired, goodnight. Would have been perfectly acceptable.

"All these years of trying... I thought I couldn't get pregnant."
    - why was she trying to get pregnant by another man, even if he was her husband if she was so in love with Gideon. That would be a permanent tie to the man she doesn't love?!
    - Is there something else here I'm missing?

"Jean-Francois told me you called a couple of times asking about me. I wish you'd called me. Or returned my calls."
    - 1. She's still calling him.
    - 2. Even after her suicide attempt, something Gideon feels at least some guilt over. He still is not willing to jeopardise his relationship with Eva by communicating with Corinne directly.

Her eyes weren't the same shade of blue as my mothers, but they were close, and their sense of style was similar. Corinne's elegant blouse and trousers were notably like something I'd once seen my mother wear.
    - is this a coincidence or does Corinne deliberately attempt to emulate Elizabeth?

"I'm very protective when it comes to her. Tread lightly."
    - considering this is only a week or so after Corinne's suicide attempt Gideon is still quick to make his loyalties clear. I would have expected him to treat Corinne more gently, however the way he handles it pleases me.

She'd been a blind spot for me, but no longer.
    - I think this is why Gideon tolerated Corinne's stalkerish behaviour for so long.

I wasn't normal and I didn't need to be. Eva accepted me the way I was.
    - this is the fundamental truth of their relationship. Understanding and acceptance of each other's pasts as well as of the person that had shaped them to become.

"I would have found Eva eventually. And I would've wanted her, given up everything to have her. I would have left you to be with her. The end was inevitable."
    - A statement like that from a man like Gideon should have been the end. Any normal person would consider that a very definitive answer even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear. Corinne however is deluding herself and living in such deep denial that within minutes she's convinced he'll come back to her.
"You'll regret this, and I might be too hurt to forgive you."

"What do I have to live for if I don't have you?"
    - this statement combined with her immediate mood swing from devastated to anger indicated the suicide attempt was a deliberate ploy to guilt Gideon back to her.

"What's wrong with you?" She cried. " this isn't you."
"You wouldn't know." I went to the door and yanked it open. "Go home to your husband, Corinne. Take care of yourself."
    - harsh but again a very definitive answer.

I hit the controls to frost the glass, carving out a moment alone with my wife.
    - Corinne was actually in his office and he didn't afford her the same level of privacy that he gives Eva for a phone call. This speaks to the level of possessiveness he feels for Eva. It also highlights the difference between Eva and Corinne as Corinne once made Eva jealous by alluding to how possessive of her Gideon used to be.

  13. And from Chapter 4:

He loved me so much more than he loved himself. I remembered what he'd said to me once, that he'd live with me loving another man, just so long as he had me.
    - Eva, however, would never tolerate this in reverse. Gideon's insecurities are so much greater than hers and she needs to remember that and stop thinking it's okay for her to hurt him because she's a woman. She also needs to remember that if anyone's jealousy is greater or more justified it is Gideon's because he is not nor has he ever been in love with Corinne. Eva cannot say the same about Brett.

  14. During my re-read today I found a few notes I had made about each chapter first time round and never shared. I know we aren't about to start another chapter discussion about CBY right now but I thought some people may have some thoughts in the wait for release.

    Chapter 1

"Do we need to take a break already? Take some time for Kline to clear up your confusion? Maybe I should do the same and help Corinne with hers." - Gideon
    - if the positions were reversed Eva would have reacted in a similar way. In fact she did, she kissed Brett (same tactic) to make Gideon understand how she felt about Corinne.

"Why don't you understand how much I love you? Brett's got nothing on you. Nothing." - Eva
"I think of nothing but you. All day. Every day. Everything I do, I do with you in mind. There's no room for anyone else. It kills me that you have room for him." - Gideon
    - the contrast between these 2 statements is telling. Considering Eva's previous jealousy how can she not see the difference? Gideon clearly has much more cause to be jealous and lashing out considering she's admitting to having feelings for another man, no matter how insignificant they are when compared to her feelings for Gideon.

Reading through this forum in the last day or so it struck me that people seemed to be more annoyed at Gideon than Eva during this conversation. Clearly I had the opposite reaction!

ETA These notes I found in Chapter 2 relevant to his topic.

I understood that Gideon wanted to make me feel what he was feeling, so he'd leveraged Corinne against me. I'd known talking about Brett was going to be a problem, which was why I'd put it off, but I hadn't had an ulterior motive in bringing it up or when I'd kissed Brett, either. I had hurt Gideon, yes, but could sincerely say I hadn't intended to do so. On the flip side Gideon had deliberately set out to hurt me.
    - does he though, or was he reacting to the hurt she was causing and lashing out in return? I also think she's downplaying how she would have reacted if the tables were turned. Saying she didn't have an ulterior motive when she kissed Brett is a lie. She already admitted it was to make him understand her jealousy of Corinne. Also saying she had sincerely never intended to hurt Gideon when she kissed Brett - eh what? How did she think he was going to feel about it? Happy?

And found some more notes on Chapter 3 relevant to this topic....

"Angel, you're worried. I don't think you'd sleep with him, but I do think you're anxious about crossing a line you shouldn't. You needed a strong reaction from me so you were blunt and you got it. You needed to see what it would do to me." - Gideon
    - A very plausible ulterior motive for Eva bringing up the conversation about Brett. Something she swore she didn't have.

"You manipulate me. You do things... Say things... Just to get a particular response out of me" - Eva
My arms crossed as I remembered her kissing Kline. "As do you, which we just discussed." - Gideon
She faced me. "I'm allowed to, I'm a woman." - Eva
    - The hypocrisy of that statement baffles me. It's the core of all her anger at Gideon from this recent fight. However she can employ the exact same tactic and that's acceptable because she's a woman. Emm... NO

As you can probably tell from my reading notes I was really unimpressed with Eva's attitude in a lot of this book. Right from the beginning her behaviour was frustrating me.

  15. I was a little confused with the ending of the second scene of OWY.   What did Eva mean by saying Corrine's name....she can't be going to confront her now, since she is late for work.  Wonder what kind of advice Monica can give Eva on being the wife that Gideon needs?  I am sure Sylvia will explain everything in time, I was thrilled to receive the second scene, but as I said, I was confused....   Happy Thanksgiving everybody.

Yes that confused me also. Does that mean when Eva discovers Corinne in Gideon's office it is actually their second run-in of the day? Did Corinne go to see Gideon because of an earlier conversation with Eva?

I understood that Eva wants Monica's advice on how to deal with Corrine.

Corrine is a problem, and Eva wants to "solve" it. So, during lunch, Eva will have the chance to ask Monica how to deal with a woman who is trying to meddle into her marriage (throwing herself at her husband). I'm sure Monica has some experience with that, considering that she has married rich/handsome men, and will be able to help her.

I don't think Eva will go to see Corrine before work, but later in the book she's going to do something to ged rid of her once and for all.

That makes sense, but the segue does not.  First Eva says to her mom she needs her advice on how to be a better wife to Gideon.  Then on to her Mom asking if either one is having an affair.  Then Eva tells her mom that they eloped several weeks ago.  I chuckled when Monica asks if they got married without a pre-nup, then is upset when no one has gone over it.  Loved Eva's reply "a six year could have understood that pre-nup"  which is true....she got 10 million up front just for saying "I do"  then it only got better. Then Eva says they could meet for lunch, she has to hurry to get ready for work, and then Eva says Corrine's name.  Just saying, the segue is off.

I just re-read it again and it's quite ambiguous.  My first thought this time though was saying Corinne's name was enough to deflect Monica's attention away from the fact that Eva & Gideon eloped. This distraction allowed her to escape the room & delay the rest of the conversation. What do you think?

If the Eva version of the Valentines Day issued scene is the one used then she has not yet spoken to Corinne, after Gideon threw away the photos she thinks about how she fights the urge to see those photos, their exes remaining in the past, but she also thinks 'Which didn't mean that I wasn't going to have a few words with Corinne.'  Gideon is still being fairly nice to Corinne, although seemingly firm.  But (I think) she still thinks she has some 'hold' over him from the past.  Maybe a few even firmer words from Eva might make her finally realise that the past is over and done with and cannot be revived.

That is a very good point D500. Which version did you prefer? Personally I hope she uses Gideon's version! I have been looking forward to the time when Corinne finds out Gideon is married, and while we didn't quite get the dramatic reaction (yet) that I've been hoping for, I really enjoyed reading it! I think there are probably many people out there who read the books but do not necessarily check the website for excerpts or release info. I think they would appreciate this version most also.

    Which did you prefer?

  17. I'm not sure telling Corinne that he is already married will make much difference to her. She has already proven her apathy with regard to the vows as she left her husband to persue Gideon again. Also she seems the vindictive type. Gideon was trying to stop her from releasing her tell-all book. Seems to me that informing her that he is married may cause her to be more rash and hurtful in the book than she originally intended!

The original intentions of the book were to show how happy Gideon & Corrine once were in an effort to win him back. If she were to find out he was married before publication, she might do a few re-writes to make Gideon look worse or to make Eva hurt more!

She knows with the book that Gideon will have to read it to know if she is slandering him in any way, and peoples points of view are very subjective so I'm sure she can tell the same story but spin it the way she wants, without lying!

Something to consider as a possible reason for Gideon continuing to hide his marriage from Corinne...

  18. We all know that Gideon told Eva that he used the hotel for his sexual encounters before her, but what if he meant while he lived in New York. He does twist his words. Are we to believe that he never had sex while away on business at his resorts and casinos. He met Arnaldo in Italy. The beautiful women there didn't catch his eye. Perhaps while away he went to sex clubs. Look what he said about the two girls coming onto him backstage at Bret's concert. He would have taken them both on in the past before Eva. But he was in San Diego not New York. Sounded to me like he would have taken them to his hotel room there. He is a clever, crafty man with a huge sexual appetite.

He did not lie to Eva...he told her the truth..yes in New York I've only used the hotel but she didn't ask about while he was away and therefore he feels he doesn't need to elaborate as this may upset her.

Also when he explains that he doesn't do anal play. Perhaps he was meaning he doesn't receive. As we find out with Anne he has done this with her. He again didn't lie, just explained in a way to spare Eva's feelings yet still tell the truth.

I agree with nearly everything you've said except for the part about anal play. When Gideon says he does not do anal play it is because Eva has asked that of him. That he touch her there. If it's true that he did indeed play in this way with Anne then that was a flat-out lie to Eva - the first we've really come across. It's possible that Gideon considers both Eva & Anne exceptions to his normal encounters but for very different reasons! Obviously with Anne it was a form of revenge against Hugh & Dr Lucas whereas with Eva it is because she is the love of his life. For this reason he may not consider it a lie because it was very much not his norm. With Anne he was acting out of character in that situation...? Thoughts?

  19. yes I think he has.....can't remember which book, but when he dodged Eva's question about him using one before made me think that he has.

When are we going to start out chapter discussion of CBY? It has been over 2 weeks, I think we have waited long enough and probably have reread it too often.. Anyway it would get out minds off of wanting the release date of OWY !!

I agree! I always thought Gideon dodging that question was basically him saying yes. If he hadn't used a swing before he wouldn't have felt the need to evade answering the question!!

Also totally agree that we should start the chapter discussion soon! This thread jumps about too much to really delve into the book!! I'll be all over that chapter discussion like Gideon on Eva lol 😳

  20. does anyone think that maybe chris left her because he maybe thought it could of happened to Christopher as well?

While that's possible I don't think its even the main issue. Chris left her because she never told him about the possibility of abuse. She left him completely out of the loop and therefore removed his opportunity to investigate himself, or to help Gideon through a difficult time. And based on Chris' reaction now, he would have believed Gideon without question. He wouldn't have asked some random Dr for an opinion and taken their word as gospel. He would have at the very least ended the opportunity for further abuse - we still don't know the timeline of when Dr Terry saw Gideon & whether or not the abuse continued beyond him telling Elizabeth that Gideon was lying....

  21. I'm not sure how you can say that. The way I understand the conversation Brett had a copy of the tape and he is still working with Yimara. "Sam told me you were going to try this. That tape is none of your business. It's between me and Eva."

I think Corinne & Brett are equally evil but in different ways. They are both trying to manipulate and cause emotional pain.

Sam told Brett that Gideon was going to try to buy Brett's rights to the tape. He was correct Gideon did try to do just that. A week or so after he bought out Sams rights. So technically Sam can no longer do anything with the tape. He has signed away all rights to it and therefore given up all copies etc. He could be sued for millions if he were caught doing anything with that tape now!!!

However that doesn't prove that they have been working together recording people in private situations. All that proves is that they are in contact now which we knew because Sam gave Brett a copy of the tape. I'm not saying Brett didn't know it was happening. We don't know that for a fact but likewise we don't know he was aware of it either.

Given that the rest of the band were also filmed in compromising positions it seems unlikely IMO.

  22. I think Corrine is so much worse than Brett. Corrine was trying to psychologically screw with GidEva.

She made Eva think twice that Gideon had slept with her, spent the end of BTY trying to get Gideon to focus on her which worked, got in with Gideons mother and Chris Jr which only hurts Gideon more because he doesn't see them as family the way she thinks, attempts suicide which kills her unborn child and then has the nerve to blame Gideon for it all. Even knowing Gideon's past with his father. Then is writing a tell-all book which is going to really hurt Eva.

I think Corrine and Brett are on whole different playing fields. I don't like either, but Corrine is the one to worry about. A sex tape and being a creep is one thing, putting the blame of your unborn child and your suicide on someone who deals with the issues already is so awful I can't even put it into words.

And yes, go rate and review in Amazon!

Totally agree with you here! We also need to remember that we have no proof that Brett knew anything about the sex tape before Gideon & Eva found out about it.

Don't get me wrong he's a sleeze for wanting to capitalise on it now he has it, but it would be significantly worse if he had been involved in the recording of people behind their backs! The real creep is Sam Yimara.

  23. Imagine a tell all bout about one of the most unattainable, powerful and private men in the world. There are also things like his dad's schemes that they may think she has information about as well as other things. I can totally see why a publisher would be interested in a book about the Ice-man.

I agree with this part here. Eva is so quick to forgive Cary for the very large eff ups he's made but will drag Gideon across coals for keeping even the tiniest of information from her.

I disagree about him being anything like Gideon though. EVERY SINGLE THING that Gideon has done, whether he went about it the right way or no, has been to protect Eva.

    • Faux dumping her was to protect her against prosecution for his crime in killing Nathan
    • Not telling her before hand about his trip to Cali to deal with her sex tape with Brett was to save precious time in get the sale blocked.
    • Having her followed (i.e provinding her with security and getting mad when she wouldn't use it) and being able to track her phone was because Nathan was still around and he was worried about her
EVERY SINGLE THING that Eva got mad at Gideon for always came back to her.

That's the difference between Cary and Gideon. Cary is selfish and Gideon is selfless. He gives everything but information freely to Eva. Everything he's ever done is to protect her.

When she gets mad and an explanation is offered, 99% of the time she feels foolish because Gideon was right. I think given his track record, he deserves the benefit of the doubt and a bit of her trust because he clearly knows what he is doing.

Totally agree with you both! Cary is starting to really irritate me! As is Eva's attitude toward him. It's like he can do no wrong as far as she is concerned.

I mean seriously, she comes home to find an orgy in her living room and aside from a text conversation where she tells him off that's it. Then she refuses to go away for the weekend with Gideon because she needs to 'dig in to it' with Cary, and do they - no it's never mentioned again!

It seems like a disapproving look and maybe a patronising comment is sufficient for Eva to berate Cary but when it comes to Gideon messing up she goes nuts!!

Also considering, of the two men Cary has been in therapy and dealing with his issues for significantly longer. If she's giving either of them more space to mess up it should be Gideon!!

Sigh! Eva irritated me in this book a lot too in case you hadn't guessed lol
