I had to go back and review.  I loved chapter one too.  The description of the city waking up around them just as they were restarting their relationship on new terms is excellent.  Monica's reaction to Eva's plan to get more exposure definitely comes across as a woman in fear of exposure so you can't wait to find out what she is afraid of.

That works for me because the other books have been done chapter by chapter.  Anyone can refer to the previous books if they need to to make a point.  

 

CHAPTER ONE

I recall Eva feels she may have pushed Gideon to change when she was not willing to do so.  She thanks him for giving her "space" while she worked out her feelings regarding Mark working for Crossfire Industries.  I thought Monica's concern that Eva or Gideon was having an affair was cute and interesting.  Eva telling her mother about the elopement and Stanton easing Monica's concern about a prenup was well done.  I like that Eva asked her mother for help with Corinne. 

I like the idea of Victor moving to New York to be close to Eva.  I would have kept Raul in charge of Eva's security and hired Victor to oversee security at my buildings if I were Gideon.  Raul is far more knowledgeable about what has been and is going on.  I would not want to wait for Victor to get up to speed

I like that too.  But do you mean from Bared to You or just One With You?

Although there are  foreign publications that have not been released yet, many (maybe most) of sylviaday.net  members and follower have finished all five books in the Crossfire series.  This forum is an opportunity to specifically talk about what we might have chosen to write that is different or support what we think is perfect just like it is.

Wish Lionsgate had started casting earlier but I just saw Tyler Hoechlin on the Today Show and he looks like a good candidate for Gideon...or Arash...or Manuel

My biggest problem with Monica's story was I do not recall any information on how she supported herself, her sister and Eva once she left her in-laws until she married her second husband, Nathan Baker's father.  In One With You, Monica left the Tramells pregnant with only the clothes on her back.  I recall Eva referred to Barker as her mother's first husband in Bared to You, so she did not marry to Eva's knowledge.  I know Eva was born before her mother married Barker (she says Monica had a kid in tow) but I cannot recall if her age is stated.  Did anyone read about that time and I just missed it?

Having read the entire series from beginning to end during the past week, I wonder after finishing the fifth book for the second time if the whole story was outlined in 2012

As has been stated by most readers who have commented here, the end was a shock.  I have read similar reviews everywhere.  I have only read two books by Sylvia Day .that were not part of the Crossfire series so I do not know her style.  That being said, I have read hundreds of romance/erotic romance/erotic novels during the past few years.  For me, One With You reads like an edgy Nora Roberts.  If I had been reading one of Nora's books what happened to Monica would not have been as much of a surprise.

Normally I would have expected the lives of all the characters to be tied up with neat ribbons but I think Sylvia said in an interview about this book that might not happen.  I, therefore, was not surprised to find so many characters unfinished....too many for my early expectations of the series.

A sixth book that provides a traditional/typical ending would take away from what I consider a unique ending to the Eva/Gideon story.  We are left to fill in the future for ourselves.

My comments should not be construed to imply I am happy.  I wanted a warm, fuzzy HEA.  I do thank Sylvia for a special reading experience that makes Crossfire a standout among the books I have read.

If One With You ends in September, it is going to be a very busy month for Eva and Gideon as well as everyone around them!

Listened to interview.  Sylvia's feelings about finishing the Crossfire series was interesting.  Glad she confirmed the television series and that work has been going on since 2013.  I like her statement that a television series format allows for the full presentation of  secondary characters.  Movies are usually less than two hours per book.

Rereading Naked in Death after many years.  I did not remember Roarke was 6'2" with black hair and blue eyes!

As for Gideon's red-headed receptionist, I really have felt that this girl is related to Hugh/Anne but that the connection is not well known - different last name and all.  Possibly Hugh's wife was pregnant when Hugh killed himself.  If the wife remarried, the child could have a different last name and maybe Gideon didn't follow all the threads.

Conversation about Christopher Junior!  Interesting plot concept....I like it.  Glad you took the time to post that idea.

Interesting to read comments about Anne.

I always (since Reflected in You) thought Anne Lucas was the therapist for Gideon and his mother especially when her husband lied about the abuse.  I just thought he never used her name in that context to Eva because he would really look messed-up.  I also have always thought Gideon's red-headed receptionist is related to Anne because of the way she reacts to Eva.  I still would not be surprised to find Anne is using Cary because he is at this time ( as he was for Nathan) an easy target/way to get to Eva.

Right or wrong, we will know very soon.

Afterthought - How did Chris Senior find out about Dr. Terrance Lucas?  I do not remember.

 

I did not think Monica was concerned about Nathan because that information got out when Nathan died....that is how Victor found out.  I thought Monica was concern about that unknown time between Eva's conception and her first husband.  I believe Eva was five when Monica married Barker.

In chapter 17 of Captivated by You Gideon says 

“Christopher, Anne, Landon, Corinne . . . they were only the beginning. There were others who had grievances against me. Still more who held grudges toward my father.”

I wonder who the others are.

Has there been any discussion about Anne Lucas leaving Eva's apartment building?  I have just finished reading that scene.

Anne got off the elevator and the doorman and concierge had not noticed her entry.  The concierge states all visitors were accompanied by tenants.  Later Gideon tells Eva Anne has promised to get back at him by hurting Eva.  I think Anne has been the cause of Cary's recent destructive behavior.  I think she is trying to destroy him to get to Eva and thereby Gideon.  In other forms, Anne was mentioned as the possible doctor who gave Corinne inappropriate medication for her depression that may have made her suicidal.  At that time everyone in the story thought Gideon cared about Corinne. I would not be surprised to find Anne Lucas is the source of Cary's and Corinne's unusual behavior.

Eva did not go upstairs that day.  She has not asked Cary about any redheads either.

They definitely release on east coast time.  The receipt depends on the source.  I am in PDT zone and get my copies (iBook and iTunes Audible) between 8 and 9PM the day before which corresponds with midnight EDT the day of publication.  Unfortunately the audio release for One With You is not available to preorder on iTunes yet.

I have found I receive Amazon and Audible.com releases later, after midnight PDT the day of publication.  Since I have all four types of accounts, I am very aware of the difference.

PS

Amazon has always delivered any print copy I have preordered on publication day.  They have not missed so far.

At the very end of Captivated by You, Eva tells Gideon Mark has received "a retention offer" from Waters Field & Leaman to which she adds she does not know what Mark is going to do.  Gideon asks Eva if she will come to Cross Industries if Mark makes the move.  Her response is "I'm not sure yet...."

This exchange takes place on the last two pages of CBY!

I agree.  I accepted him but I always felt there must be some else out there.  It also seems female  narrators are better at reading men then male readers are at reading women.  Jill Redfield is an excellent example.

Audible.com now shows a length of 14 hours and 31 minutes.  That makes sense with a book that is 480 pages.

I wouldn't be opposed to Monica and Victor getting together, but don't see it happening.....what with Monica being divorced two times and she didn't even try to contact him.  It is almost like Eva wanting to be friends with Brett after 4 years apart.  If Eva really had wanted to be friends with Brett she would/should have contacted him.

The key differences between Eva/Brett and Monica/Victor is they actually got together as soon as they had an opportunity.  Also they both admitted to their daughter that they still loved each other.  I think Monica did not see Victor because she knew how she felt about him.  I think she wanted to protect her marriages/money sources.  She also felt she failed Eva/Victor because of Nathan's abuse.  There must have been some indirect contact because Eva and her father did not seem to be strangers before she moved to SoCal and she made her mother promise not to tell her father about the abuse.

Eva did not contact Brett because she was not interested....she did not even know what happened with his band.  Remember she lived in the area during those three and a half years after she left him.  I do not believe she ever loved Brett but he did fulfill an unhealthy desire.

I love the way Sylvia wrote Monica as a teenager who gave up everything she knew to keep the child of the young man she loved then sacrificed him to give that child the best life she could.  It  makes her an interesting character.  I look forward to seeing where she is at the end.

I hope it is 29 hours too.  I want lots of details.

I know about the "large print" and "library bound hardcover".  They are available on the US Amazon but I am looking for regular hardcover to go with the one I already own.  When E. L. James published the third book of Fifty she published a set of hardcover editions.
