  1. Interesting talk at the Apple Store tonight.  I was almost late but managed to get a seat, some had to stand.  Note how I am writing is my own interpretation of what she said in places as I couldn't take many notes and my memory is rubbish so this isn't a verbatim report.

One With You is the fastest selling paperback this year.  Even outsold Lee Child.

    Her favourite character is Cary.

The tv series is in active development, i.e. they are definitely working on it.  At the moment she expects the tv series to be the books as they are - if the books were to be made into films secondary characters would have to be dropped and Lionsgate and Sylvia felt the secondary characters were too important to the story to leave any of them out.

There were two previous drafts of the story - the first had no 'engine', I forget why the second was changed (lady next to me drew my attention away), the third obviously became the book we got.  All three drafts had the Monica ending - as usual it was the characters speaking to her that were telling the story and that was how they were telling it.  Sylvia said she spent time with her editors over the first two drafts discussing it, and when it came to the final draft and that part was still there, which she still wasn't sure was how the story should go, but after discussions with her editors they advised if that's what the characters are saying then that is how the story goes.

Asked about the questions readers had over 'unfinished' side character stories, as an example she mentioned 'is Tatiana's baby Cary's? and pointed out that at no time had Cary queried if it was his baby, although Eva had.  Cary was happy with the fact there was a baby and it might be in his life.

She also mentioned that One With You ends as it does because Gideon and Eva are at a point where they didn't need her any more, if she had continued writing to finalise all the side character stories, Gideon and Eva would have become side characters in the books about themselves which is not her way of writing.

She also explained how her writing is about one 'universe' and some characters in books are descended from characters in her historical novels and how a lot of people had spotted Gideon in the So Close excerpt.  She went on to say that Ireland will get a series! and that she expects Gideon to act the possessive big brother.  No timescale was given, just the fact that Ireland needs to be of age.  Ireland goes to Columbia, Lily from So Close goes to Columbia.

A question was asked about Renegade Angels - she's no longer contracted to write any more of those books and although it sounds like she may write more at the moment she is contracted to various books and until those contracts are fulfilled, she cannot begin any other writing that is not contracted.

If I remember anything else I'll be back.

How come no one went to Stanton after Monica's death? Who comforted him?

    10 hours ago, sscrph said:

Probably Clancy and  possibly Martin and his side of the family...everyone seemed more concerned about Victor than Stanton... The only word I can use to describe that whole scenario in the book is ODD.   :(

Stanton would also have his own circle of friends who would have rallied round.  We don't actually know that Eva did not go to Stanton, some of the after events of the death were written from Gideon's POV and he did text Stanton offering any assistance.  Cary had been with him "Stanton, man ... He aged right in front of me. Like thirty years just ran through him while I was standing there."  Stanton had his voicemail turned on and was not taking calls when Eva and Cary did try to contact him.  Eva was also probably aware that being so like her mother he would find it hard seeing her.

Gideon's first concern was, of course, Eva who had blacked out.  Although we knew she blacked out because of the weight of two men on top of her, he didn't know that and was very worried about her.  He also made the snap decision to let her recover from that black out before telling her the bad news.  She goes into shock when told so imagine what state she would have been in if he had told her as soon as she came round?  Gideon does mention how cold she had become after he told her the news.  Some people do go completely numb and are unable to react with tears when given bad news.  As Chris said "She's numb.  It will hit her, eventually.  For now, she's dealing with it the only way she knows how."  Eva had also begun looking after everyone else, a diversional tactic I guess to help her cope.

As to people being more concerned about Victor - Cary, Gideon and Eva were all aware that Monica and Victor had 'hooked up' and that Monica was the love of Victor's life, plus Gideon felt that Eva needed her father so that may be why.

Just my thoughts, not necessarily correct.  I definitely need to do another re-read but after a gap of reading some other books and come back to this later.

Hello everyone :) I have never posted anything here before, but I have read all the post and checked in regularly. I am a huge fan and have followed the Crossfire series from the beginning . I really loved most of the book. Angus and lucky are awesome ! I was satisfied with a lot of things even if it was still open ended. But when I read a series I truly need some closure or at least no confusion.

What has not given me peace of mind is the famous photo . I hate to say it but it almost makes me feel that in the beginning with Eva it wasn't as life altering as Gideon said. Obviously it's not true because of his love for her.

I don't know if Sylvia  commented anywhere about everyone's confusion. But I tried to come up with a scenario that gives me peace of mind. I thought that maybe the women were very aggressive and he reacted to being the prey . In his mind he was in a private area  for no one to see . Remember in San Diego when the two woman came at him backstage , he said at a different time he would have turned it around on them and became the predator. I think it might be tied to that.

I still think it was not a wise thing to do in public given who he is. But it could have also been quick , then he realized and took them to the hotel.  What do you think ?

Sorry for the late response I should have done this days ago , when the topic was being discussed. If I can clear this little thing up . I could probably move on . Lol :)

On another note , I want to thank everybody in the forum , for being here to help clear my head for the past couple of years .

I will truly miss this series. but I am looking forward to Ireland's book !

    I know it's late , I hope I didn't ramble:)

I'd forgotten that scene from Captivated, where he commented re the two women.  Shows that you really do have to read these books carefully and remember things as Sylvia does wait a while before returning to some subjects and not always in much detail.  A lot of people felt the Monica storyline came out of the blue yet people on this forum had spotted that there were clues to some back story which may be crucial.

  4. And he's just over 6' so almost the right height.  Wonder if he can act and how his accent sounds?  Although I tended to envisage David Gandy as Gideon I could never see David with the necessary long hair, has Henry ever appeared with long hair?  I prefer Gandy or this Nelson guy's body to Henry's (I think Henry is a little too buff for Gideon but that's purely how I imagined the character, I don't see Henry as lean but again that's my own interpretation of the description).

Whoever gets the role I shall try to hold back on any 'that's not who I see in the role) as whoever it is WILL be playing Gideon and it is unlikely to be either Henry or David.

  5. Yes but the existing Crossfire series is set in the year 2012 which is now in the past - even though the last book only came out this week it is about a period four years ago.  So in real time Ireland is now 21 or 22 so if her story will be about her at age 23-24 and Sylvia and the character get into communication we could see a book in a couple of years or a little later.

If she is 24, the age Eva has been in these books, Gideon can't complain if she has a good relationship.

I wonder how long this Ireland spin off novel has been in the works ? If it is set in stone it would be the perfect way to include Gideva because they both love Ireland to death and will certainly be a big part of her life. It will also be able to showcase the aftermath of the break up of Chris and  Elizabeth's marriage and the healing or not of their family. I cant imagine Eva forgiving Elizabeth anytime soon.

She began writing Bared in 2011 so presumably the entire series took place that year or maybe 2012.  Ireland was 17.  So in 2016 Ireland is 21/22.  Maybe she needs to be 24 (like Eva was) so we may have to wait a couple of years.  No problem with that as we have the Blacklist books to come and fill the interim.

  7. I need to see him acting so will find an episode of Teen Wolf to watch.

However he's in Fifty Shades Darker so maybe they wouldn't consider actors from one series being in Crossfire??????  And looks like they are playing around with the 50 Shades books if they are expanding a role so not exactly true to the books then.

Teen Wolf star Tyler Hoechlin has been added to the cast of Fifty Shades Darker, Universal confirmed . He’ll play Boyce Fox, a co-worker of Anastasia Steele. Though Fox is only briefly mentioned in E L  James’ books, his role as a rising author who eventually signs with Christian Grey’s publishing company is being expanded for the film.

  8. The above quote is on Facebook.  And it's getting a great reception.

Someone has mentioned not liking the thought of Ireland in a steamy novel and how no boyfriend for her could be as hot as Gideon - Sylvia's response "But he'd have to be quite a man to go toe-to-toe with Gideon, who we all know will be his usual super protective self."

  9. Someone just instagrammed the following statement from Sylvia (I don't know where Sylvia posted this)

One of the questions that came up a lot over the last week that I've been on tour is whether we'll see the Crossfire Series crew again.  I think the answer to the question would be of interest to many here, too so I'll share it.

All of my stories, whether they're contemporary, historical, paranormal or futuristic, take place in the same fictional universe (otherwise known as the crazy place that's my imagination).  There are no silos for me.  I don't end a book or series and close the door on that world and those characters to move on to another world where those characters don't exist.

Gideon and Eva reached a place where they don't need me any more.  There are other characters who do, so I'll spend time helping them.  In the meantime, Ireland will grow up (she's underage now!) and when she's ready, I'll help her too.  This might seem tangled for some, but in my mind, they're moving forward at the pace they set.

Every writer has writing and creative processes that are unique to them and the limitless boundaries of one fictional universe is part of mine.  The timeline in my mind will continue on indefinitely in either direction and all of my characters travers that pathway with each other.  I never say goodbye, only farewell until we see each other again.

  10. I also believe the people marking low stars on reviews are doing so purely because of their need for the tieing up of all the other characters rather than the writing and the storyline. And just seen one person say that Sylvia has strayed too far from the formula for this book - what formula?  Have I missed something?  Are writers supposed to slavishly follow a formula so every book is pretty much the same?  Is that why people were complaining at there being 5 books - are all authors meant to write a trilogy and set the story out in the same way?  Does every story have to end up with the two main leads having a baby, with all their friends settled with one another?  An epilogue seems to be something that is essential and HAS to be set some time in the future, but I quite liked the fact that the epilogue here was at long last Gideon and Eva on their honeymoon, spending a considerable time on their own together rather than having friends and business in the background.  Does there even have to be an epilogue?  I'm sure some books I've read have not had any.

There's also been a few comments about the price, in the UK the book was £4.99 for the e-book and if ordered from Amazon, the paperback was £3.99 (and Waterstones sold it at half price in store).  I don't know how much it was in the US but I pay some authors 99p each for four instalments of a novel and have to wait some time for the next part to appear so £4.99 isn't a bad price.  We pay something like 20% VAT on e-books so although they are often cheaper than the official publication price of a paperback (usually £7.99) paperbacks don't incur VAT.

  11. I liked Fifty Shades but didn't like the bdsm aspect of it, my sister borrowed the books and insisted Christian was grooming Ana which I didn't think was the case, but sister reckoned if someone was going to be as interested in sex as Ana proved to be she would surely not have still been a virgin?????  The base storyline was fine, and the writing okay but I prefer Sylvia's writing and her depth of characterisation, particularly as the basis of two abuse sufferers and their road to recovery was interesting and needed some research.

Those posting on both Sylvia's page and other review sites are downright rude in many ways, they give away a lot of the story line and therefore some are saying they may not even bother reading the book.  A lot of them are using pretty similar words, I wonder if somewhere there is a website where they get together and plan a mass review with low ratings, using similar words just because they are annoyed there are five books instead of three and they had to wait a total of four years to read all five books.  I am aware of one discussion section on Good Reads where the members have been slating Sylvia since CBY came out, and had pre-judged OWY before reading it.  Only a couple of their members picked up the subtle nuances of CBY, neither of those have returned to discuss OWY on there.

If you speed read the books you are likely to miss things - I know my first read was pretty fast and I accepted I wouldn't pick everything up and would need to re-read immediately.  None of those spoiler reviews have added anything to what happened in the book, just churned over the same thing such as we need to know about Cary and the baby, if Gideon and Eva have children etc. and as some on here (and thankfully some reviewers) have pointed out we don't need to know that at this point, we just needed to know that G&E had come through and were working together, living together, that they had a future together.

When people first began pointing out the 'unfinished' points I did wonder if maybe all the fans clamouring for more would mean Sylvia might have intended that to happen so she could write a sixth book, but I think the possible idea of characters being in other books or mentioned in them was a good way to have a new story line but finalise some of the things we'd like to know about.

Maybe Sylvia wanted the ending of the books to be different to how other authors tend to end, perhaps it's to do with the tv series and the producers wanted something heavy at the end of the story?  As has been said, it's Sylvia's book, she can write what she likes how she likes.  But I do think it is very poor of her readers to write such vitriolic comments on her own page - example:

"700 hundred books ive read! And of all of them Cross series was my favourite. the first 3 books was! Then you go write crap! In book 4 then destroyed the whole story in 5th book. Waited two fecking years for a book full of unanswered stories and no thought for Eva when her mom die? You just want to finish the book and be done! Well Sylvia Day im now done with you and anything else you write from now on.. hope THE MONEY is worth loosing your Fams for!.."

Fine don't like the book, and no problem with this person telling the author they didn't like it, but there's no need to be as rude as this.  The book is not 'crap' at all, just because you can't be bothered to read it properly and try and understand what is going on and all the hints within the text, that doesn't mean the book is wrong.  A lot of the stories are actually answered as far as they can be within the time limits of what these books are about, and although it would be nice to know about Cary's baby etc. etc. they don't impact on Gideon and Eva's own happiness which is what this book was about.  And what is with the  'no thought for Eva when her mom die?' (repeating the person's appalling grammar there is killing me).  Gideon gave full consideration to why he could not tell Eva after it happened (and we may be right that he saw his father's body and did not want Eva to see her mother's).  He told her the next morning and yes, she did not say much but shock can do that.  Plus of course we heard that side from Gideon's POV so we only heard what he noticed was happening, if the chapter had been written from Eva's POV we may have gained different information about how people inter-acted and the funeral.  Eva looked like Monica, how hard was it for Richard Stanton to be with Eva for the funeral, seeing someone so like the woman he loved?  (I've not re-read the end of the book yet, literally just finished the chapter where Monica is shot so I'm writing from memory of my 'speed read' and things others may have commented on).

I still see reviewers claiming that there are 5 books because of money grasping - she didn't need to extend this series to 5 books to do that, she could just have written other books of a similar genre as they would have sold because people had loved the Crossfire books and would have gone on to buy them.  Look at how many bought ELJ's Grey - and then criticised because it was the same story as the first 50 Shades book even down to repeating the dialogue - but of course that is what the book would be, ELJ was putting over Christian's POV so any scene with Ana would mean the original dialogue would be the same - but there would be Christian's thoughts as to what was happening, and more about what he was doing when he was not with Ana.

With Crossfire we got alternating POV's, I actually would like to read some scenes from the opposite POV - it was interesting to read those two pieces posted on the web site about the scene in Gideon's office with Corinne - interesting seeing the same event from both of them.

  12. Not sure if any of my little notes from yesterday's reading are of help and apologies if any have already been included, I'm still not up to speed on discussions (friends leave on Wednesday so life goes back to normal pace).

In the part where Gideon is talking to Angus when they first discovered about Monica's real name Monica Dieck was scared, 'when she heard Lauren's name she went white as a ghost'

I think someone questioned that Gideon maybe didn't have sufficient security with just having Angus and Raul -and those mentioning the offer to Victor to be security - in Gideon's thoughts was the following:

'My security detail was used to managing only my affairs.  Now I had Eva in my life, which effectively doubled their duties.  Angus and Raul were accustomed to rotating shifts, but lately they were both working nearly round the clock.  They had standing orders to hire whatever support they required, but what we needed was another security chief - maybe two.  Experts whose sole charge would be Eva and whom I could trust as implicitly as I did my existing team.'

The seeds are sowed for Victor coming on board.

In the same chapter Gideon dreams he is standing, as an adult, alongside his father looking up at the Crossfire building and in his thoughts is something that I can't grasp - not sure if this is important or if something occurred later that answers my question:

'We're the same height and that startles me for a moment.  Why does that surprise me? The answer hovers in the back of my mind, but I can't grasp it'  -anyone have a clue what the answer hovering in his mind might be?

I agree with you I read up to Chapter 8 and then went to the end where Gideon's mother wanted him to have Taylor and Sawyer killed I mean really that is just not nice right I don't know what happened in between so I don't know how you mean Gideon and Christian were together.

sme I hope you are feeling better as the days go by.

I may be confusing this with another fan fiction about Gideon and Christian - they had the two of them having a one off 'relationship' - n0t my thing and I didn't continue reading after that.

D500 I have been reading the fan fiction and I have to say I don't like it and didn't finish reading it.  I absolutely love Gideon and Eva together and Christian and Ana together and that was ruining it for me.

I can understand fans wanting to write what they think might happen with book characters, but not in this way, bringing two sets of characters into one story, and the bit they wrote about Christian and Gideon together was not necessary.

That said I follow some role playing people on Twitter, there are several Gideon Cross/Eva/Christian/Ana etc.  I've two Gideons, one Ana and Hudson Chase (Ann Marie Walker's Chasing Fire series).  The two Gideons use David Gandy for their avatar and for photos they post, and Ann Marie based Hudson on David Gandy - the Hudson and one of the Gideons chat a lot and pretend to have meet ups and talk about being 'twin trouble' a lot, quite amusing.  One of the Gideon's is particularly good, I believe it is a male behind the character and he is reading One With You so he is up to speed with the character.  I think I prefer the role players to the fan fiction.

It says "'She's sold a tell-all book about your relationship,' she said redundantly. 'The release officially hits wire Monday morning at nine.'"

It would be the press release that would hit the wire, doubt the book would warrant a rushed release on the Monday with no pre-publicity, even though people might be interested in Gideon's life and the role Corinne played in it, they were only together for something like two years so there would have to be some research done into his life before and after Corinne - this could, of course, be where Deanna intended to include her own bit about Gideon being violent towards women?  The only woman we are aware (I think) he was in any way violent towards is Anne.

First I want to congratulate you on spending time with friends, second for voicing my opinion as to reviews I have been trying to think of how I wanted to say things. Third I think I missed something, where in One With You did they mention So Close. I am rereading now and am on Chapter 6 (trying to read slowly to process) As I do not have Facebook I did not see that Sylvia said we would hear more about Gideon and Eva do you know if it is on Twitter?

After the end of One With You there's the first few pages of So Close and mention of Kane being the most eligible bachelor in town as the last most eligible has just eloped (Gideon).  We also have been told that the Blacklist has something to do with a record company.

We've also been told by Sylvia confirming it that we will hear more about Gideon and Eva and I believe we may also hear more about Jax and Gia.  :)  :)  :)

I've spent the last few days trying to get out of my OWY funk. I've been thinking too. I've read a couple of satisfying books.

I was thinking maybe we would get some of out unanswered questions in the Blacklist Books, but after reading the comments on here about Ireland getting her own book maybe that's when it will happen. The only thing is how many years will that be? We know the Blacklist if coming out in 2017, it's two book that are already written, but I bet we will have to wait over a year before the first book is re leased.

In Texas (I'm guessing that is were Eva was born) babies get their mother's last name at birth. If the parents are unmarried there is additional paper work that has to be filled out by the father to give  the babies last name his. I would assume Victor was not present at Eva's birth and would not have been able to fill out the paper work, even though we know Monica refused to give Eva is last name.

I still will say The Crossfire Series  is on of my favorite. I will still re-read books 1-4, but I don't think I will ever read book 5 again. I really thought it was going to be my all time favorite, but sadly NO. It will not top The Inside Out Series which I felt ended so well. I actually sent Lisa Renee Jones a message telling such and received a very nice thank you from her.

I also enjoy Fan Fiction, I've read this one it's incomplete, but I liked it. There is something that happens that I didn't like, but I wont spill the beans is you decide to read it. I actually read this before I read the first Crossfire book, reading Fifty Shades Fan Fiction. Enjoy!

    https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8774672/1/50-Shades-of-Crossfire

I began reading that fan fiction and I agree, there was something I didn't like which I think was out of character for both of them, but believe the fan fiction was written before Gideon's abuse was known about.

  17. In response to a Facebook question as to whether we would hear more about Gideon and Eva Sylvia said

    YES

which of course was inevitable if there is to be a book about Ireland (or is it that Ireland is in the Blacklist stories?)  As So Close had a snippet in One With You I did suspect there might be more about known characters, even if just mentions that answer questions.

As to reviews, I have no problem with anyone who wrote, as we have on here, that some story lines are not tied up, but some people on various sites really don't know how to phrase things politely and some are almost nasty in their comments.  Haven't they worked out by now that Sylvia writes everything with a reason, she drew Gideon and Eva's initial storyline to a close with them being well and truly together which was the purpose of the Crossfire series.  We've long known characters get mentioned in other books so I think our closure on other side stories from Crossfire will be explained over time.

I'm struggling getting time to read at the moment as a couple of friends have turned up out of the blue and we are out and about so I'm not getting much time to myself (thank heavens they didn't turn up last Monday!) so I'm having a great time shopping, eating and drinking but not able to give my books the quality time they deserve.

sme - get better soon, glad the illness has given you some time to read but it's much nicer reading when we are 100%.

  18. 11 hours ago, sscrph said:

If Gideon were going to behave like that with women ; he wouldnt be doing it at any club whether he owned it or not. He would have been at the f-pad. Even Monica said as much to Eva that because of those racy photos certain people may not want to do  business with him any longer...

Another quote from OWY from Gideon's POV - thoughts in his head

Chagrined I looked out the windows at the city I loved.  Only Eva knew about the hotel room I'd kept perpetually reserved - my 'f*** pad' as she'd called it.  Until her it was the only place where I took women for sex.  It was safe.  Impersonal.  There was nothing to learn about me there but how I looked nude and how I liked to f**k.  Leaving New York meant I wouldn't get laid so of course I'd always insisted the guys keep our prowling close to home.

Not got time at the moment to go back to previous books where he said he had more sex with Eva than he had in a longer period with others but admitted to twice? a week with women at the fpad so he really doesn't seem to consider 'foreplay' as sex.  But that still doesn't answer why he was in what is a public place in a compromising position with two women.  All the clues you others have brought into the discussion confirm he was most likely to get up to this kind of activity in the fpad.

  19. Was it to do with them both growing more together, not fighting against each other so much?  I'm still on my re-read and making notes and think I may have to do a third read once more members questions/comments appear so I can see if there is any clue.  But this last book is them together, working almost as one, Eva definitely not walking away when she gets annoyed at the slightest thing, Gideon accepting that he can't necessarily do everything himself and she is capable of dealing with what are now 'their' problems rather than just his or hers.  Arash was taken aback that Eva knew about Deanna, that would have made him realise Gideon really is well and truly in love with Eva as he has told her about his past escapades and was comfortable with them.

The bit I noted last night that I was a little puzzled by was how open Eva was beginning to be (to Cary and to Arash) about her and Gideon's sex life (e.g. the salami comment made to Arash in Gideon's office re Deanna).  Arash responded first of all to Gideon 'props for laying that all out for her' and then to Eva 'You're a saint, Eva, for putting up with him and the trail of scorned women in his wake.'  (I guess Arash may have had to do some legal stuff in the past to do with scorned women).

  20. Picture of a booth with curtains around the sides and one that can be pulled across the front.  So if this is indicative of the kind of booth Gideon may have been in with the two women, there's no room for anyone else so his friends would not be there, but it is also possible for a photographer to get a photo sneakily by slightly pulling aside the curtain (the occupants would be too absorbed in what they are doing to notice) or from above the curtain.

It's also, of course, possible this took place in one of Gideon's clubs, after it had closed for the evening and the place was empty of other people with the photographer having spotted something was happening and hidden until he could get the photo?

No idea if this could be the scenario and we're not going to know but as we all know he was very private about sex it is probable that the booth was one that could be closed off but even if it were private, other than him being so drunk he was not worried about being in the f**pad it is so unlike the character we've read about.
