  1. Just to touch upon Cary. I don't hold it against Cary that he tried to get rid of Gideon. He's Eva's friend. Walking into her room and seeing her being attacked by her boyfriend, dreaming or not would certainly take a toll on someone. His only concern is Eva, and I don't blame him for that. Just like I don't blame Arnoldo for not liking Eva after the Brett kissing incident.

  2. Hi Gcrossfire,

I read your comments about Eva and her conflict between work and her marriage and I saw it differently. Once Eva decided to get married her alliance should be with her husband. I am not saying that a woman/man should automatically sacrifice him/herself for the sake of their marriage, but when two people get married, it is no longer a situation of me/he/she, it automatically becomes we.

I have to wonder whether Eva's lack of a decision about the Landon Corp deal, was in response to the fact that she got married too soon. Gideon chased Eva hard, exposed and overwhelmed her (as well as loved her deeply and unconditionally to the best of his ability) all the way to the alter. Could it be that on some level Eva was rebelling to the fact that she chose a life and a partner that she will largely have no control over?

What do you think? What does everyone think?

Hi GiGi. I agree with what you've said about the no longer *I* but *we*. I will also admit that with such a short dating period it might have been a concept Eva didn't fully appreciate. I think you could be onto something with Eva subconsciously rebelling because of the lack of control. Having said that I'm not sure that Gideon telling her prior to doing it that the outcome with Mark would have been different. She would have felt boxed in regardless. Maybe if she'd know all the bulls*it Gideon was dealing with on her behalf she would have reacted a little differently, but he's trying to keep things from her so she doesn't get hurt. Eva has to realize that she is Gideon's weakness. If anyone can get to the "Ice Man" it's going to be through her. For her to think that LanCorp account just happened to land on Mark's desk is foolish. I understand that Eva doesn't want to lose who she is in their marriage, but at the same time she needs to find a balance. She's smart, and wealthy in her own right. She could very easily start her foundation and thrive on her own doing that. Again I know the end result of the fight justifies the means so to speak BUT as much as Eva wants Gideon to deal with his issues, she needs to realize she has some pretty unrealistic expectations about her independence now that she is Mrs. Cross.

  3. She really is a freaking loon, and I've also wondered how the heck we are going to get rid of her. Brett is a simple fix... he's going on tour and can spend his time with the Eva look alike. Corrine... she's tougher to get rid of. Do we believe she really didn't know about the baby? Maybe she will have a total psychotic break and spend the rest of her days heavily medicated in an institution. ;)

  4. I also felt that way about Eva ladies. I don't understand some of her actions here and I get that her walking out on Gideon in the end was justified, but it shocked me to see that she really was so naïve about what her life as Mrs. Cross would entail. That she would have to make some concessions. I feel like Gideon's time has been monopolized by Eva clean-up and she seemed almost ungrateful.

  5. It doesn't help matters that up to now, Gideon keeps breaking down to see Corrine and all that does is send a mixed message that if she cries out for his attention she'll get it. Think about it. When he ended the charade of dating her he told her they could still have some sort of long distance contact but no more spending time together. When he quit taking her phone calls she showed up at the Crossfire and got him to come to down to the lobby. Then more crazy stalking got him to go see her at her apartment to talk about her depression meds. She took the overdose and he went to the hospital. Then after she got out and went to the Crossfire again he brought her into his office because he felt bad for her because of the miscarriage. But he told her he was engaged so no more contact. The tell-all book is her latest stunt and look what he did. He called her to arrange to meet at the same restaurant he took her to weeks earlier when he started spending time with her.

Know what I think he should have done? Sent Arash to the restaurant instead. Send a clear message and quit sending the mixed message that if only she tries hard enough she can get Gideon to see her.

    Totally agree Lighthouse.

  6. I thought that Clancy said "how far wouldn't I go". Meaning that he would do what ever was necessary to protect someone he loved. He had already said that protecting her wasn't just a job. That was just my opinion and I may be mistaken!!

On another subject - did anyone else feel that when Gideon could remember his dream at the end of the book it shows that he was mentally starting to heal. I didn't think he could remember any of his dreams or nightmares before.

I think Gideon always remembered his dreams. He was just to embarrassed and upset to recount them. Having said that I think Gideon dreaming and sharing is certainly helping him begin the healing process. The long term goal here is to have the nightmares stop and him and Eva sharing a bed.

  7. I think Christine Leaman had been following the GidEva relationship all along from the paparazzi picture of the kiss on the sidewalk to the tabloids going nuts that morning about the engagement and I think she also connected the dots about how the agency landed the Kingsman account so quickly and easily. When she swung by Eva's desk in Chapter 2, I think she was on a fishing expedition to see if the engagement rumors were true and if so how might it affect the agency good or bad. Was Eva pregnant? Was the engagement true? Or was it simply more crazy stories like the ones from earlier in the summer speculating he gone back to someone else he been engaged to.

I think Gideon introduced himself to Christine at the fundraiser the night before as Eva's fiancé. I just thought Eva didn't want them to think she was marrying because she was pregnant.

  8. I agree with everything you've said especially with the feelings about Eva.

I'll try to keep this short (hopefully we have a chapter discussion thread once everybody has gotten a chance to read the book)

My heart broke for Gideon so many times in this book!

Scenes where I really teared up with him:

    • The encounter with CV Sr at the penthouse
    • His nightmares (especially the one on the beach with Eva)
    • When he finally broke down and told Dr. Peterson about his rape
Gideon is the most complex and well written character that I've ever read in a romance novel.

    The not so good :(

While the book was VERY well written and great what I didn't like was how I ended up feeling about Eva.

I had a gut feeling after reading those initial three chapters, that reading things from Gideon's perspective would change how I felt about her and not in a good way.

I understand her need to be "in the know" about things that concern her but what bothered me specifically was her reaction to not knowing.

She comes of as a bit spoiled and seems like she gets upset for the sake of picking a fight. (I'm not sure I explained that properly)

    Example:

    • She got mad about not knowing about Gideon and Elizabeth's conversation. Stark raving mad. I understood her feeling of being left out. Trust me I do! What I didn't like, is HOW mad she got about it. It felt a bit excessive to be steaming PO'ed at Gideon for not telling her about him dismissing his mother as soon as it happened.
    • While I understood her feelings in their final argument and I was actually on her side, I was not impressed with her naivete when it came to Gideon's explanation of Landon trying to get to him through her. Gideon was wrong wrong wrong for not having a discussion with her beforehand about Landon and the campaign, and his thoughts about offering Mark a job but how could she think it was "ridiculous" for a man who felt wrong by Gideon's father to want revenge against Gideon through whatever means? Even after his explanation of LanCorp and their in-house advertising and marketing team, she ONLY saw the light when Will made the SAME observation (query?)
    • What I thought she would be annoyed with but wasn't, was him being in San Fran without telling her. Knowing Eva, I though she would have been a tad peeved that he was in San Fran and not mention before hand that he intended to be in town or even told her after the fact that he was actually in town. She seems to "like" getting annoyed/upset at him and maybe she was just tipsy and ###### and missing him, but I was really surprised that she didn't light into him about being in San Fran without telling her.
    What I loved!
    • GIDEON, GIDEON, GIDEON!
    • Gideon & Arash
    • Gideon & Victor
    • Gideon and Eva's friends
    • Gideon opening up to Eva
    • Gideon opening up in therapy
    • Gideon OPENING UP period!
Note: My opinions may change after a second read but this is how I feel immediately after my first reading.
  9. I thought perhaps it was the day Gideon's father killed himself.

I'm re-reading sme, but have to really agree with your assessment of Eva. How on earth does she not realize her life has to change? Marriage changes everyone's lives, but marrying one of the 25 wealthiest men in the world; surely that brings a ton of change to the 'average' girls life. I think her naivety is what really bothered me here.
