Totally agree ... Gideon does refer to the relationship going forward with Corinne as SOCIAL friends...that IS different than REAL friends.

I think Magdalene told Eva that Gideon told Corinne that they would be long distance friends as opposed to social friends. I took that to mean that he didn't want to spend time with her even if they were at the same social event. They would say hello in passing but not sit at the same table over dinner for example. That's whay I took it to mean anyway.

Hi Kirsten,

I don't agree with what Monica did at all!!  I don't support infidelity in the least!  I think that it was easy for Monica to cheat on Stanton because she was never in love with Stanton.  I am sure that she cared for him and probably loved him for what he did for Monica and her daughter but that is a far cry from being in love with someone and building a life together.

I think Monica is as happy as she can be with Stanton and I do like Stanton and actually feel sorry for him that someone as successful as him needs a vacuous trophy wife like Monica ... Oh well !!

My only thought is that Gideon said he had been planning their wedding on the beach for weeks. Perhaps he had asked Elizabeth for the ring then? She did seem shocked. I can't really figure out why she would just give it to him for no reason you know.

I think Gideon was given that ring long ago because it was a link to his father and the fact that he didn't pawn it when he needed the money to start Cross Industries proves that he still loves his dad in spite of how he left him!!

I'm not convinced that Anne Lucas was the shrink that treated Elizabeth while her brother abused Gideon. Terry & Anne were married at that point (that is why Terry covered up Hugh's crime) but Gideon said it took him a long time to figure out why Terry had done what he did.

If his mother's shrink had been called Dr Lucas also, it wouldn't have taken him long to connect the dots. Also when family are working together its usually mentioned fairly early on in conversations. (I work for my dad & the fact that I am his daughter is always mentioned in work introductions)

Also if Elizabeth went to a pediatrician with the same last name as the shrink treating her, then her neglect of Gideon & her mistreatment of him in this whole situation demands that she be burned at the stake IMO!

I get what your saying, but some female Drs keep their maiden names in their professional lives. When Terry Lucas examined Gideon there was no sigh of anal penetration, it was just hand jobs. Gideon was called a liar. Christopher said nothing happened. They blamed Gideons state of mind. When Hugh returned with Anne it opened the gates for total penetration. Elizabeth believed the doctors not her son. I know it's a dark path.

Is anyone else slightly confused by Victor's almost immediate acceptance of Gideon & Eva getting back together? Giving his permission to marry Eva after seeing him cheating on her just 3 weeks previously.

I'm sure he understands that there are details of their lives that are private and between them. But I know my father would never give permission to marry me to a man who publically cheated on me & appears to have chosen the other woman for at least a while. Do you know what I mean?

Cary also, I know by the time he and Eva talk about Gideon he has other things going on in his life, and also that he's been aware of them being back together for a while. But I find it hard to believe that he would just accept Gideon's cheating on Eva with Corinne without questioning Eva about it at all. Especially considering he and Eva don't really keep secrets from one another. Then again, he may just see it as Gideon was falling back into old habits - running instead of dealing with their issues or pushing Eva away because he wasnt ready to deal with his past. Ok Cary I can buy, but he has information Victor isnt privy to.

Part of me thinks that Victor being a cop, he knew instinctively what Gideon had done, and why he hurt Eva cutting her off, needing honest reactions, when questioned by the police. He said himself when he got off the plane, he wanted to hurt someone/something. If Nathan had been around, I think Victor would have done the same as Gideon . Clancy told Eva what lengths he would go to, to protect his wife. I would have liked to have heard the conversation between Gideon and Victor.

We don't know though when Terry was called in to examine Gideon. My belief though due to the hatred Gideon harbours for Dr Lucas is that, by the time he examined Gideon there was physical proof. Gideon was seen by 2 different pediatricians - we have never really heard mention of the other, I believe because there was no proof when he examined Gideon so Gideon forgave him for that. Terry however saw the proof and lied - hence the animosity between them.

I get what you are saying about Anne using her maiden name for work but what I dont understand is why it would take Gideon so long to connect the dots between Terry & Hugh if he knew of Anne's existence. If he knew they were brother and sister surely he would have investigated the whole family - if 2 members of it were treating his family. Do you know what I mean?

Hey 2000 postings!

Dinners on me at Arnoldo's restaurant! :)

Im bringing Marty!!! Congrats julie!! :)

Bring our appetites too

I've really warmed to Clancy! :)

Congratulations_22.gif

You did it, Julie, as I knew you would, beat me out to being the one to have to (graciously) pick up the tab for a dinner party at Tableau One.

And given that you're paying, you can take Clancy. If no one has asked him to the "prom" yet, I'd like Raul -- hopefully Gideon will loan him the DB9 for the evening.

Hi Kirsten,

Do you think that it was Elizabeth Vidal seeing Eva wearing her old engagement ring that set her off?  Which would lead me to my next question; how would Gideon get his hands on that ring?  Usually women keep their engagement rings and only pass them down to their children way later on in life (or if a child specifically asks for said ring) but usually the mother would be aware of whom her child was going to propose to?  It seemed like Elizabeth was blind-sided when she saw that ring on Eva.  What do you think?  What does everyone think?

I think Elizabeth might have given Gideon the ring when he was engaged to Corrine, only Gideon never gave it Corrine and he kept it since then.

Ok after re reading the book, I think that at the fundraiser Eva figured out that Anne Lucas was the Dr.that Corinne was seeing at put her on the antidepressant medicine.  I think the Russian Mafia has Megumi to trafficking her.  I think we will see a showdown between Eva & Corinne.  I think Gideon is definitely going to SD with his wife.  Was I the only one that thought that Corinne baby was Gideon baby at first?  I got a little freaked out at first!  I think that Eva didn't tell her mom that Gideon had proposed because she wanted her to see the ring on her finger & I think she told her before they left for the fundraiser.

It never crossed my mind that Gideon could the father. Gideon would never cheat on Eva.

The Mafia thing I think its just a get out of jail card for Gideon nothing more. But its possible if like someone said that Monica might be the link to the Mafia. What if they saw Monica with Megumi when they shared a cab?

Maybe Monica took a cab to Eva's and Clancy wasn't involved in transporting her I think Monica knew the meeting could get ugly or NOT!!!

Gross !!! So Anne Lucas and her BROTHER both had sex with Gideon it's getting almost incestuous !! YUK!!

She took a cab but I think Clancy still might have followed Monica discreetly.

I'm really angrey Gideon would take off without even a text to Eva, and why would he take his tracker off at least she would be able to see were he was..That does not lay right with me, do u think there's something more to that?? Does anyone think Deanna went with him??

 I hope he didn't take her(Deanna) with.

Dr. Anne Lucas .... yep, I think most definitely she was the one prescribing anti-depressants to Corrine in a manner that steadily worsened Corrine's condition. I think Eva's gut is right about that; she instantly felt a sense of unease upon learning that Anne is a psychiatrist (a medical doctor who specializes in treating mental illness, and like any medical doctor in the United States, has the full authority to prescribe drugs -- when a mental health problem necessitates medication, technically any medical doctor can write prescriptions, but in practice, usually a patient is sent to a psychiatrist, a specialist extremely well-versed in psychiatric meds.)

I wonder too whether Eva's unease goes deeper than that -- she knows from Gideon that when the Vidals put him into treatment at around age 10-11 for his anger management problems, the main therapist was a woman and the guy who turned out to be the pedophile, Hugh, was studying for a doctoral degree.

We know from a Google search that Eva had done in Reflected, Terry Lucas is 45 years old and had been married to Anne for 20 years. Assuming she is in the same age bracket -- mid to late 40s -- she could have already finished medical school too by the time the Vidals put Gideon into therapy.

Whether or not Anne was the woman who was supposed to have been Gideon's first therapist (but instead became Elizabeth's, leaving Gideon to the mercy of Hugh), I can easily see how Anne could have become Corrine's doctor. Possible timeline:

  1. Spring? Corrine was still in France, but her marriage was deteriorating and she'd gone into full-blown obsession of Gideon, calling the guy daily and guilt-tripping him into become a "friend" she could lean on.
  2. Early June: Corrine decided to leave her husband and leave France. She booked a flight to New York, then called Gideon in crisis, telling him she was coming and begging for his help in settling in. She happened to catch him at a time when he was busy at a social event (the fundraiser that had been his first date with Eva) but he agreed to call her back later. When he did, he told her he'd met someone -- Eva.
  3. Next few days upon learning about Eva: Corrine cancelled her flight, chickening out seeing Gideon with another woman he actually was serious about. Then she would have seen photos online: Eva on the red carpet with Gideon, Gideon passionately kissing Eva. And Eva did not look like Corrine -- she wasn't a brunette like every other woman Gideon was photographed dating. Another serious sign that Eva actually was different.
  4. Week that followed: Gideon was suddenly hard to reach by telephone (he was too busy with Eva) but when Corrine did manage to talk to him, he discussed how special Eva was and how she was getting him to open up.
  5. Crashing the fundraiser: Corrine decided to go for broke, moving back to New York without telling Gideon, and calculatedly catching him off-guard with Eva. What followed were some very serious mixed messages: Gideon had never told Eva about Corrine, Gideon paid total attention to Corrine during dinner, Corrine scored direct hits seriously messing with Eva's mind -- and Dr. Terry Lucas was at the table.
  6. It goes badly for Corrine: Gideon literally ran out the door after Eva. I'm guessing that the next day -- after the nooner stunt -- Gideon called Corrine to say he needed distance from Corrine, for the sake of Eva. I'm not sure whether he cut off all contact with Corrine then; he might have been taking her calls sometimes (but not daily). However, it is safe to say Corrine didn't get to see him face to face. But no more new press photos appeared of him with Eva - had making Eva insecure worked?
  7. My guess: around this time, Corrine, fearing she came back too late, and now stuck in limbo and with her marriage totally on the rocks, sought help for depression. Corrine obviously reconnected with the Vidals, who moved in the same social circles as the Lucases. Perhaps while crying on Elizabeth's shoulder, Corrine got the name of a doctor to see - Anne Lucas.
  8. Gideon dumped Eva and started dating Corrine again: even he later admitted he deliberately gave Corrine mixed messages they could be more than friends. He had to, to maintain the high-stakes cover to protect Eva herself from the cops, not just him (if he got charged, Eva could be falsely charged with being involved in the killing too.) Now Corrine is at the height of happiness temporarily.
  9. Anne reacts: now it appears Corrine is the one who will become Gideon's wife. Anne buys the lie that everyone else had, even Eva herself. So Corrine is the one to destroy. Anne increases the doses of the anti-depressants (hey, look how well they're working!) She guesses that things will continue to be rocky with Gideon, and so Corrine is about to go through roller-coaster h e l l.
  10. Corrine in limbo: despite the mixed messages by his actions (letting the world believe he and Corrine reunited) behind closed doors he's telling her "just friends." Then Eva shows up on her doorstep, further unsettling her -- Eva isn't out of the picture after all, and Eva is asserting Gideon loves her (Eva).
  11. Panic time: sometime around this same time (Eva showing up again) Gideon tells Corrine firmly they'll never be anything more than friends. I wonder whether he did it Monday night following his huge mistake of getting caught red-handed with Corrine by Eva. Or perhaps it was Tuesday night, hours after Eva promised she would wait for him. In any case, by Wednesday night, when Gideon and Eva reunited, Gideon had already had The Talk. And all of a sudden, he's not taking Corrine's calls anymore. If she was stalking his apartment building (she lived around the corner) she'd figure out he wasn't coming home at night either.
  12. Depths of despair: figuring correctly he was seeing Eva again, Corrine started stalking him, including calling his mother and calling Christopher. And turning to her doctor -- she's coming apart now. Through a combination of further manipulating drugs and messing with her mind, Anne pushes Corrine to the brink of collapse.
  13. Things get worse: when Gideon finally does go to see her in her own apartment, the only result is his determining she literally is crazy now. Instead of supporting her, knowing it would send the worse possible mixed message, Gideon steps back and summons her estranged husband to intervene.
  14. Corrine gets proof about Eva: Deanna, still on her crusade of tapping into the Dumped by Gideon Sisterhood, contacts Corrine, and shows fresh proof of Gideon's supposedly being a jerk -- pictures in Times Square of him "chasing" Eva to stop Eva from getting back together again with Brett Kline. THEN Corrine's husband gives her the devastating news: Gideon and Eva are engaged, something he himself knows for certain because Eva herself confirmed it.
  15. The suicide attempt - last ditch effort to manipulate Gideon to come back to her? Or actually having lost the will to live? Or genuine madness, thanks to the evil machinations of Anne Lucas?

What happens next? One scenario I can see -- Perhaps Elizabeth, clearly on Team Corrine, will lay a massive guilt trip on Gideon as part of her (Elizabeth's) own efforts to get Gideon to choose Corrine over Eva. Elizabeth will in detail spell out just how long Corrine had been suffering - weeks, not just days. She'll reveal that poor Corrine even sought psychiatric help weeks ago -- from Anne Lucas.

I want to hear the TAPE. :)  I think that Victor knows how much Eva loves Gideon, and Gideon probably explained the whole situation in an acceptable way. I don't think Gideon told Victor he killed Nathan, but I do think that Victor is a smart guy, so he probably got a better read on the situation when talking to Gideon, and could tell how much he loves Eva.

I didn't like it either. I mean after that whole hospital scene, I had a bad taste in my mouth so to speak so to then have Gideon disappear all that time. He's married for goodness sakes he should have called Eva or sent a text. He's still learning how to be in a relationship, is my only excuse for it. Plus he knew he couldn't tell Eva where he was going really. She would have been so upset to get that type of news over the phone. Doesn't excuse his behavior though.

Wow, LN!!  Love it!

I was traveling yesterday---going on a holiday--as the European ladies would say---and now I am trying to play catch-up..

Good Lord, AMC -- you've got nearly 500 posts in this thread alone!!! The community here was going WILD yesterday, it was amazing!! New members jumping in, and at one point well over a 100 lurkers reading. Mrs. Crossfire spotted Sylvia's name as actively on the site at one point (Sylvia didn't post, but she obviously was reading.)

It never crossed my mind either that Gideon was the father of Corrine's baby. But I got very scared that Eva would assume it to be true and pull a runner. Look at what happened after she'd seen the party photo .... then to hear with her own ears confirmation that Corrine most definitely had been sexually active with someone recently? She wasn't "showing" so she obviously was in early pregnancy.

Gideon had sworn to Eva that the kitchen fire at the party hotel -- NOT Corrine -- was his alibi for many, many hours the night Nathan was killed. What if Eva suddenly doubted that and concluded that Gideon's real alibi involved taking Corrine upstairs to his fully-stocked f*** pad, that one thing led to another, and that what went on extended beyond the toys .... that his, um, you know what got involved?

My first thought of baby papa was Christopher Jr.

Hi Julie,

You make a good point.  How do you think Gideon convinced his mother to sell Ireland’s shares in Vidal records?  Do you think that there was any arm-twisting involved?

Julie,

I took Gideon's explanation to Eva at face value, Vidal Records was in financial turmoil and he didn't want to see his Mom be hurt by financial problems again.  Ireland was young enough that her shares were not actively being used/managed and it would be a lot easier for him to take them over at that time.  However I have wholeheartedly felt that although Gideon was  a little standoffish with Ireland, that he really did care for her and always had intentions of giving her, her shares back whenever she would legally receive them, either 18 or 21 or after college...whenever.

I believe that Gideon has always had a fairly good relationship with Chris (Sr.) and wouldn't want his family to suffer.  If he didn't buy Ireland's and a majority of the public shares, than the family business would be less family and I believe that he wanted to help keep the business in the family as well as guaranteeing a future for not only Ireland by Christopher (Jr.) which we know, from what he has told Eva, that he has tried to help Christopher many times, including giving him money.
