I am wondering about Gideon's phone call with Monica towards the end (I think) of the book when he tries to calm her down. I wonder what was discussed. Wasn't it a lengthy phone call?

All things considered, too, Eva was really smart to keep a leash on her temper and her hands off Corrine -- because a scene in that crowded lobby with lots of witnesses plus security cameras -- could have created legal peril (at the time it still wasn't safe for Gideon and Eva to be seen together).

 

What's worse, it could have also created a tabloid scandal. Someone would have gotten cell phone pictures and video of Corrine Giroux and Eva Trammell literally fighting over Gideon Cross - imagine that going viral over the Internet. It could have easily been an especially spectacular mess, because Corrine was now literally crazy and so who knows how postal she would have gone.

Eva would have looked especially bad since Corinne was pregnant. Fighting with a pregnant woman? She would have been thrown to the wolves.

A lot of people have been saying that Corinne may have met either Anne or Terry Lucas at some sort of social event and that is how Anne came to be her shrink.

The bit I find most implausible is if someone said to me "You look sad, here's my / my wife's card, you should call me / her, she's a shrink."

My reaction would not be, "Maybe you're right, thanks very much, I will."

It would be, "How very dare you" and I'd probably throw a drink in their face for good measure. Is that just me?

Granted they may have just met socially, Anne told her what she did and maybe give her a card and when Corinne decided she needed some help she remembered Anne and made an appointment.

However, the level of manipulation most people are attributing to Anne does not fit with this scenario.

What do you think?

I think Dr Lucas is very good at reading people's insecurities, and took advantage of both Eva (at the dinner and the hospital) and Corinne (at the dinner). Corinne must have been distraught about how Gideon left her for Eva, and he was there for her to lean on; a good listener. At some point, he may have said, "Hey look. If you need someone to talk to, here is my card." or "My wife is a doctor, here is her card." Who knows, but if Anne is her psych, someone had to get those two in touch. Of course, it could have been EV, but may be not.

The scenario of Jean-Francois telling Corrine that Gideon and Eva are engaged, Corrine immediately locking herself in her bathroom and then swallowing the pills without any premeditation at all, because she snapped, is more palatable than the alternative of Corrine trying the ultimate form of manipulation, a suicide attempt, to break up Eva and Gideon, binding Gideon to her forever.

 

Eva suspects Corrine attempted suicide to deliberately hurt Gideon. It may be true, or that may be Eva's insecurities talking to her. When it comes to Corrine, Eva's never going to be able to be 100% objective.

 

Maybe Corrine, who arrived in New York already half kah-ray-zee ended up being manipulated herself, manipulated by another one of Gideon's exes, Dr. Anne Lucas. How ironic is that -- Corrine set out to hurt Eva by mentally/emotionally manipulating Eva's weaknesses, and yet Corrine ended up being mentally/emotionally manipulated herself by someone else after Gideon. Talk about karma being a b i t c h.

Also remember the night of the dinner when Gideon sat and talked to Corinne all night, Dr. Lucas was there; sitting right next to Eva. When Eva left, Gideon quickly chased her, leaving both Dr. Lucas and Corinne at the table together. Who knows what those two talked about. Feeling sad? Oh, my wife is a doctor who can help you.

I think marrying Giroux was another attempt on Corrine's part to make Gideon want her - breaking the engagement hadn't worked. I think Corrine was guilty of using Giroux, marrying him even though she knew Gideon was really who she wanted. I feel bad for the guy - I'm sure he eventually realized she didn't really love him. And Gideon said he was a pretty decent guy.

I agree. I wonder if she proposed to him too, hoping to make Gideon jealous enough to try to win her back. Obviously, her plan didn't work. Then she thought, well marrying him will make Gideon come back-nope. Well, divorcing him will make Gideon come back-nope. Well moving back to NY will make Gideon come back-nope, etc.

I'm envisioning Corrine locking herself in the bathroom and swallowing the bottle of pills ... then Jean-Francois finally becoming alarmed she wasn't coming out of the bathroom. Maybe broke down the door and then called an ambulance?

That's what I'm thinking.

I was just going to bring this up. SD said the first 2.5 (half of book 3) books were about Eva and dealing with her problems, and the next 2.5 (half of book 3) books will be about Gideon dealing with his problems/past. We will definitely be learning much more of his story in books 4 and 5.

What a busy night!

Right. I'm think Anne Lucas and her brother, were the shrink and doctorate that cared for Elizabeth during her pregnancy.

Terry Lucas covered up Gideons rape, to spare the family name. Gideon didn't have much interaction with Anne because he was always left alone with him.

Did Gideon know Anne was the shrink when he had sex with her?

I think Anne was his shrink too, I mean when he was a child but ending up spending time with his mom instead.

I apologize if my next question has already been asked or is obvious and I missed it, but was Anne Lucas the psychiatrist who came in to help Gideon when he was young? Her brother was the student who abused Gideon, but was she the supervisor that spent most of the time with Elizabeth? When we found out she was a psychiatrist, that is what immediately jumped into my mind.

Do you think Gideon's initial thoughts about Eva were just to use toys/fingers/whatevers on her? When did using her as a one time thing turn into wanting more? Don't you think it happened before the s*x in the limo?

OK-don't hate me, but was anyone else disappointed that there weren't any Eva/Corinne face offs? I was really looking forward to Eva smacking (not literally) Corinne. Anyone else?

I've gotta say that I did love the book, even though it really really annoyed me quiet a few times. Why the added drama?! Why??

Ok, let’s start lol;

 

Love that Gideon is living next door…I think maybe that’s another reason why he didn’t contact her that whole week or  so that they were apart, he knew what she was doing…I wonder if he saw her leave the apt after her makeover as ‘New Eva’. Lucky for her he was at his other apt when she came by after Graves talked to her!

 

Love that Gideon had already told Corinne no more when Eva told him to stop seeing her. Loved even more when Eva told him about the two times she tired to make her believe that they were sleeping together, that it solidified for Gideon that he was cutting her off completely. Hooray…love that! Love how Gideon just wants to be w/ Eva…worship her…make her happy any way he can. Any thing she wants, he will give it to her. Buying her the new watch was so sweet (a REALLY nice one too!) to make up for her pain-in-the-a$$ mom and the fact that she ruined a sentimental gift w/ the Rolex.

 

The night club scene…yes…hot!!! J I like to see Eva hanging out w/ girlfriends and making new ones. Gideon taking care of her the next morning…so sweet.

 

Deanna??? WTF? Why is she everywhere?! Can’t Eva keep her from coming even into the lobby?? And why was Gideon letting her touch him at the fundraiser? Her hand on his arm? Didn’t want to be rude and ###### her off even more maybe? Seriously? How does she know about the tape? Brett’s got to know about it. Probably for a while. Why does Eva need more drama like that. More things for Gideon to take care of.

 

Speaking of rude…Really Eva w/ the inviting Brett back to your place? Really? And look who was in the lobby! It was one thing to go to the video event, at least she took Cary and Gideon and Ireland were there (Love Ireland!), but then going up w/ Brett to watch it, then watch it and see how horrible it is, then speak to the host, then take him to dinner still!! Really?? Ughh…that annoyed me. And then later in the book she texts him a smiley face. Way to not send mixed signals Eva! L Sorry, the whole Brett thing bothers me. And it’s not Brett I’m annoyed w/.

 

I like the Russian mob bit. That’s great…if it’s someone helping Gideon. I too thought of Angus immediately….but, yes, I think it may be Clancy. I’m good w/ that. Maybe Angus and Clancy together. I liked that we got to find out that someone was looking after Cary too…so maybe Clancy didn’t get to him on time, but scared Nathan away before he killed him? I’m assuming then that Monica did know for sure that is was Nathan who hurt Cary.

 

Corinne…really?? Again, Gideon was letting her touch him, then she tries to kiss him…glad that didn’t happen. I’d hate to think she didn’t know she was pregnant. It is possible though. Do you really think Anne could be her pshyc? Wouldn’t Gideon have seen the Dr. name on the RX bottle? That would be really messed up if it were. I think it’s time for that whole doctor family to do down. Malpractice all over the place!

 

Anne creeped me out too. What’s w/ her telling Eva about Deanna like she did? Did she know that was Eva? Where was Lucas? What the heck, she just to happen to pick Cary to mess around w/? Ughh…too many questions.

 

I like Magdalena…I’m glad she’ll be a friend to them. An ally for Eva hopefully.

 

Who’d I miss?

 

Oh! Victor and Monica! Oh jeez! I was so looking forward to their battle! I really wanted him to go off on her. I wanted to cry when he called Eva after he found out and then when she saw him. Aww…daddy and his little girl L. I felt like there should have been more w/ that, no? I can see how Victor and Monica slept together, they both have feelings still. Ugh. Awkward for Eva! I’m glad Gideon asked Victor (like I’ve been saying!) for Eva’s hand. So happy about that J OH, and Graves asking Eva what Victor thought about them. Had they been in contact (Victor and Graves)?

 

I thought it was funny Graves and Eva in Krav Maga.

 

I like that it didn’t take too long for them to come out together.

 

I’m on the fence about the ring. I can see the sentimental value in it, but Gideon doesn’t like his mom…so…Idk how id’ feel looking at it everyday, knowing the person who it originally belonged to hurt him so badly. I would’ve thought he’d design his own.  I am a bit surprised by how mean Elizabeth was.

 

I loved the wedding and the pre-nup. I think there was a scene in the book when Eva heard Gideon on the phone…I forgot when, but I think he was on w/ his lawyers putting it together J Do women really get money for having kids? Lol.

 

I feel bad for Cary. I hope it’s not really his baby, but he’ll have  a while to find that out (if she really is preg).

Only you guys will understand. I was at Target tonight, and since The Man of Steel movie is coming out, Target is full of all things Gideon, um I mean Superman/Henry Cavill. I almost bought the Henry Cavill napkins and paper plates they had for birthday parties. It was actually HC, not the cartoon Superman.

Didn't read Gabriel's yet..! I have been wanting to but never got around to it, I might do that while waiting on book 4 from SD..! The Blackstone series has another book coming out she hasn't said when yet so ill be waiting on that to..!

How about Corrine catches them in one another's arms? Which actually could be a scary plot twist, depending upon how badly she reacts -- would it be bad enough to endanger Gideon/Eva's secrecy?

 

Wouldn't it be ironic if Gideon literally ran after Corrine immediately in order to try to stop her from doing something rash upon catching him and Eva making love?

 

I can see Mr. Control Freak trying to control the situation. Thus Corrine would finally manage to get Gideon to chase her -- but the result being the opposite of what she hoped for. She'd be told he doesn't love her and she cannot be any part of his life anymore, not even as a friend. 

 

OK, so this makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Does that make me a bad person? Bwahahaha.
