  1. I haven't read Jeffrey Archer but I love Patricia Cornwell and Kathy Reichs.  There books are well written and I always learn something.  The are both well respected in forensics and many of the techniques used in the books are techniques they use in real life.  A couple authors that I forgot is Preston/Child's Pendergast series.  These books are good crime novels with a lot of archeology and paranormal.

For years I can predict one of my Christmas presents because my son likes Alex Cross he bought me a book and would read it as soon as I finished.

Your son is smart ! LOL.I will give Kathy Reichs and Janet Evanovich a try sometime ,you're not the first person to say they're good.

  2. I would never read what my hubby reads, he loves SAS books so loves Chris Ryan and Andy McNab books, he just laughs at me as I only read romantic books, he thinks I am just mushy LOL :)

The perception is that romance books are very light reads ,sometimes lacking in substance ,with a certain and easily gotten to HEA but often that's not the case .Look at the type of things we are exploring with the Crossfire series and the stuff we learn not only from the book but through the research you do on your own triggered by the book and wanting to understand the characters. In a lot of ways the Crossfire is a very dark read and I've certainly learned a lot about childhood sexual abuse ,the laws in the USA ,gynecology ,mental health etc right here on this forum. The mushy stuff is why we love it of course but we do go through a lot for it :) .

  3. I always read and usually have a couple books going at one time.  When I only purchased hard copies I kept a book in the living room and bedroom and one in the car.  Now that I have a Nook I download multiple books but like Angel I have a book budget and I can only buy so many a month.  There are a few writers that I purchase books as soon as they are released, like Patricia Cornwell, Kathy Reichs, Paterson's Alex Cross series, Janet Evanovich, and now Sylvia Day, &  Maya Banks.

The only negative I see about the ebooks is that they don't really go on sale, at least the authors that I follow don't.  I like books that pull the reader into the story and allow me to forget my problems for a time.

I so agree with both points here.  I love Alex Cross also and the Women's Murder Club series from Patterson.

    Hi SharonM and GLH

Though i haven't picked up these books in a while I too love James Pattersons Alex Cross and the Private series he has an easy style. My hubby introduced me to the books and he reads them religiously as they come out .My favorite character is Nana Mama I love her and think she has such wisdom and grace .I used to read the Kay Scarpetta books when I was much younger and loved them .I agree about about books that pull you into the story ,you're always better for it .Jeffrey Archer is someone else I read without fail ,his writing for me is very unique.

    Hi GiGi

Thank you so very much for taking the time to compile this list ,it's very thoughtful and altogether wonderful .I don't know how to highlight but I made additions where I thought appropriate ,I hope it turns out ok .The JD Robb series is 40+ novels and novellas and that by itself would take up a whole page so I just listed the first three .

  5. Hi Everyone

I've mentioned this before but the love me with lies trilogy from Tarryn Fisher which is now complete is really fantastic ,the first one is The Opportunist the second Dirty Red and the third and last one which has just been released is Thief .Its like nothing I've read before it blew my mind to say the least. It cant be overstated that its a beautiful love story and very different from a lot of the romance books written

In erotic romance Nina Lane has a trilogy which is very hot and very good the first book is Arouse the second Allure and the third is Awaken which is not yet released but will be August /September.

Jojo Moyes Me Before You is a poignantly beautiful love story.

  6. First of all thanks for the warm welcome ladies! :) You all seem very nice and the convo's between all of you are so friendly it is a relief compared to other forums!

Well said Mam2me. Deanna was hurt by Gideon and also her own ego big time. That Gideon acted like a pig is crystal clear. But Deanna's expectations were skyhigh otherwise she wouldn't be full of hatred. Let's be honost the most admirable bachelor in town, good looking, filthy rich wants to sleep with her, so she thinks she is something special. Which later turns out she isn't, but just one of the bunch and that hurts. If you just have casual nighty night playtime  with someone you just do your thing, leave the next morning and that's it right? She prolly thought that having spend the night with him ment instant relationship and that's her own calculation fault. So instead of being hit once, she was hit twice. And a hurt woman can be very dangerous and most of the time (self)destructive.

On a slight different note, i was wondering about THE hotelroom. When Eva went there in book 1 and took a look in the drawers, she saw a lot of s*xtoys and spermicide ( if that is the correct word ) and in book 3 Gideon tells her, he used only toys when he went to that room with other women. Why the spermicide then?  I know it is a minor detail, but it made me wonder....

    Hello Moonfeather

Welcome to the forum and I hope you have loads of fun .We are of the same mind on all your points .

  7. I don't know if you have read my other posts about my situation but sometimes parents don't see what is right in front of their faces because of how the child acts. Like I said before I was a naturally shy person so when I began to withdraw my mother didn't notice because it was already a part of my personality to be to myself. Yes Monica feels deep guilt for not noticing and she does over compensate. But I think she should cut herself some slack cuz when she did find out she did everything in her power to right that wrong. My mother didn't find out til ten years after the fact and my father still doesn't know and would like to keep it that way.

    Hello Angelmine

I'd like to say I'm very sorry for what happened to you and I admire your courage in being able to talk about it.I think on this point I'll take your word for it .I don't know enough about the subject but because of reading the Crossfire I've grown to understand some of the pathology and statistics through researching the subject but unless you've lived an experience you don't know enough.Anything I say is speculation based on what one gets from the novels and not based on fact.

    Thank you for your response.

  8. Hi Mam2e & Nathalia,

I agree with both of you ladies.  I think that the way Gideon treated Deanna was not nice.  Instead of saying to Deanna, "hey you seem like a nice person but I am not really into this experience" he didn't say anything to her and I think that is what she found so upsetting.  It wasn't nice of Gideon.  He did owe her some sort of explanation (not because they were in a relationship but just to be a human being).

I however don't understand the level of Deanna's hatred.  She went back to Gideon's hotel room willingly, knowing full well that this was a one-night stand. It was almost as if this was her first se*ual experience.  Barring someone being violent or forcing themselves upon another person, just meeting and sleeping with someone in a matter of hours is a crap shoot.  It seems is looking to blame everyone else but herself.  She put herself in that situation and she also had the power to open her mouth then and there and tell Gideon that she didn't like the way she was treated during that "encounter".  It is a shame that she wasn't able to take responsiblility for her actions and what put her in that situation in the first place.  What do you ladies think?

I agree GiGi .She should have given him a hard kick in the privates ,chalked it up to a bad experience and moved on ,I would respect her more.Yes she was hurt by his dismissal and rightfully so but when you go in for a one night stand with a virtual stranger that's the risk you take ,you can hope the person you're going with will be decent and nice toward you but unfortunately it's not guaranteed and she should have known the risk of hurt even rudeness is inherent it that type of interaction even though its altogether wrong .And now for her to go around stalking him and people in his life makes me unsympathetic toward her for something for which she deserves sympathy because honestly he was a pig .The ripple effect of her actions is not hurting just Gideon but other people who were not in that room with them and she doesn't seem to care about that. And the other question would she behave the same if Gideon was some normal guy or is it because of his material worth and good looks that she can't let it go ?

  9. Here is a list of books you might enjoy after Crossfire

1.The bronze horseman trilogy -Paulina Simmons

    2.The moment -Douglas Kennedy

3.The pursuit of happiness -Douglas Kennedy

    4.The Opportunist -Tarryn Fisher

    5 .Dirty red -Tarryn Fisher

6.Thief -Tarryn Fisher ( not yet released)

    7 .Destiny -Sally Beauman

8.J D Robb -In death series (started these when Sylvia said she likes them and they do give the hot billionaire fix)

  10. I might be in the minority, here, but I love that we don't get to see inside Gideon's head.  So many times I'm reading along, thinking, "OK, this is terrible, there's no excuse for this," and then we later find out what Gideon was really doing/thinking/feeling (because he tells Eva part or all of it) and - click - it makes sense.  I also love the way both characters' perceptions and actions are colored by their insecurities.  The places we see Eva being an unreliable narrator are clever and well done.  IMO, these bits are what makes it so much fun to reread the Crossfire books.  A lot of authors attempt it [unreliable narrators, misunderstandings] but Day does it so very well!  I find myself nodding along rather than being frustrated.

    Hi Sarah

I also love that its from Eva's POV but there were times in Reflected especially I wished I could get a peek into Gideon's head.Someone tweeted Sylvia and asked if CBY will have Gideon's POV and Sylvia said partially.

  11. Hey Ladies,

Did anyone else want more details on their beach wedding? Like how Gideon gave Eva the ring? Did she see it for the first time when he put it on her finger? Or after  he said 'marry me' on the chaise after pulling her from the water? I'm sure we're going to get  to read all the vows from their next wedding, but , idk...I kinda wanted more. Greedy, I know. I think that Gideon will design her wedding band...maybe inscribe something sweet inside.

    I reread EWY last night...lol...sooo...got some thoughts/questions.

Deanna really really annoys me. I mean, it was a one night stand...how hurt could you be? What was she expecting?

I hope the Megumi thing is just her being sick and lazy to respond...Eva doesn't need more drama.

I've said this before, but I think that Monica should feel extremely guilty for what happened to Eva. Four years is a LONG time....I mean, maybe the abuse only occurred when Monica and Barker were out, events, trips etc...but still...Like Eva said, the staff -hate them too- had to have known...so how could your own mother not catch on?!?!

Oh! That's the other thing! re where Eva grew up...I thought it was it was in Cali the whole time, only moving to SD in college to be by Victor...but in rereading last night, the part I noticed is when Victor called Eva after finding out  and said 'how could she not have known something was wrong? I knew when you came to California!' (something like that)....so where was Eva living?I guess wherever Monica's husbands were .

I hope Tatiana isn't preg either...Btw, I just realized, in reading these posts, why I was so confused w/ the whole Tatiana naked scene.  I thought that it was Tatiana walking INTO the kitchen when Eva stopped her ( idk what I was thinking )...but it was her walking BACK to the bedroom w/ two bottles of water...Duh :rolleyes_anim: ...I really want to know if she and Gideon had a conversation lol...or did he just turn around and make his coffee??

    Ok...that's all I can remember now ...

I can't believe we have to wait another month to get snippets/snapshots :(  again, greedy....

Maybe not a Sept release then? Boo :(

    Hi Nathalia

Deanna : I think she should have known herself better ,I don't think you just pick up a guy for a one night stand and then catch feelings when he doesn't treat you the way you expect .You don't know the first thing about this guy so you can't expect anything and I don't think she should have put herself out there in this way if she knows she's sensitive.Without a doubt Gideon was horrible to her and no one should be treated in such a manner but they were both adults no promises were made and she should really move on .Why waste the time with the personal vandetta

Monica:It also puzzles me that Monica didn't know what was going on for four years .Its almost as if she wasn't intimately involved with Eva on an emotional /physical manner .The best I can think of is that she was young ,without support and found herself with a child and in her desperate scramble to build and maintain a life for herself and her child she didn't pay attention as a normal parent might have .I think she got it too late and because of that she overcompensates .

  12. Hi Mam2e & SME,

I didn't know how to attach my question so I am asking along with you, what made you ladies decide to read the Fifty Shades of Grey Series?

I didn't know that these books existed until I saw the President of the United States of America talking about the books.  It was hillarious.  I didn't know if he was talking about some kind strange political tactics or agendas.  I picked up the wrong order of the books (I didn't read them in their sequence), but I quickly discovered what the books were all about when I got a little into the book.  Imagine my surprise...:)

I don't remember how I discovered the books but I know there was a lot of buzz around them ,I remember the local bookstore had a whole shelf dedicated to them.

I would have loved to see your face the first time you read !

  13. Hi SME

After reading 50 shades of Grey I was looking for a book along the same lines and on the Daily Beast they had a list of books just like Fifty shades and Bared was on it .Hooked from the first chapter absolutely loved it.I remember being shocked the first time Gideon said the C word but also turned on by it I'd never read about anyone who talked about s e x so explicitly .Trust Gideon to push boundaries.

    :) to you too.

And you SME ,what drew you into the Crossfire series?
  14. Hi Gabi,

oh, I do see it would be nice to discuss in detail each of these series! We could dig deep into ...! So great!

Okay, here my answers to you (then I have to go offline ... so you know):

I haven´t yet read "Casual Vacancy"! I am hesitant! Why exactly .. I am not sure to read in German or in English and I so not feel drawn to it so far! But tell me did you read it? What is your opinion? I am very interested and don´t be afraid to spoil something for me!

    Regarding HP´s ending:

I was at first disappointed, too. It was a shock for me that after the killing of Voldemort and fixing his wand .... JRK skipped the scene and this year and moved forward to 19 years later! I would have had one or two more scene right there - the day after, the atmosphere ... ! I wanted to know if Harry and his friends repeat this last year or get the chance of participating in the final exams.

And yes - the epilogue so much later ... as far as we know Harry works in the auror department and teaches sometimes in Hogwarts, right? Well, I would like have had a scene where he and his friends held her graduation ... and you get to know how the time after the battle around Voldemort went for him and all  his friends, what their next plans ...

To skip all this and move to 19 years later was for me difficult to digest! The gap between an exhausted Harry with almost 18 years and than an experienced fathers ... to much ...

I would love to have an sequel ... sequels .. I have the impression JKRowling wanted to prove herself that she can writes other stuff ...! I do think if her own kids a grown she may return to the SAGA or in the case she needs more money for all her charity work ...

So, you think she hates to drop these characters ... I´ve read in a few interviews with her that she wanted to leave these characters and not to continue ...! I am thinking now, she was totally exhausted to write with a deadline and all the attention she was getting for writing the next volume and all the fuss about it.

Another questions for you and for everybody else HERE (I thought about to open a new topic):

What did you draw to the Crossfire Series and I don´t mean others books or recommendations!

I would like to know what you personally motivated to read these series, what drew you in, what gave you the Crossfire books apart from entertainment and a good reading?

I am very interested to hear your comments ...

    SME

    Hi SME

  15. Hi SME,

This is my first forum foray as well.  I don't subscribe to other forms of social media so when people talk about Twitter and Tweets and Photos and such I don't have a frame of reference.  Until the incident I didn't even have a cell phone.  I had one of those huge contraptions for my car because of the long distance (wait I can almost hear the gasps of others :)).

After everything happened I realized that maybe a personal cell phone might not be such a bad idea.  Oh well, you live and you learn.  I am smiling back at you.  :)

    Hey GiGi

    GASP ! :)

Have a lovely time whatever it is you're doing.

  16. When I saw Pattison I was certain what I heard about the books being aimed at young girls was true.  How could anyone think of him as CG or Gideon or any strong man.  He is a baby to me.

I have seen Henry with longer hair.  He could so be Gideon or CG.  THAT is a man.

I must say though I had the biggest crush on Pattison when he was in the twilight movies and a few of my girls were also crushing on him and we were early 30s so I think he can come across as manly and he did on twilight ,he had the right amount of intensity for that role .

  17. DEAR GIGI, Pls see above!

    Hi GiGi and SME

Thank you both for sharing your story .I think it's incredibly mature to be able to see your parent/s as flawed just like the rest of us and to seek to understand and accept them .

GiGi what happened to your mom when she was young is heartbreaking ,no child should ever have such an experience and I can understand how someone wouldn't be able to walk away from that experience and be whole .

    Monica :

In Bared I found her amusing because all her reactions were over the top and she was great for comic relief in such an intense story .In Reflected I grew to see just how much she loves her daughter and that even if her actions or misactions were not ones you could agree with everything she had done was to keep Eva safe ,secure and well loved .I believe that even marrying rich guys had less to do with herself and more to do with creating the kind of life she thought was best for her daughter .One scene that struck me was when Eva found out about Nathan having pics and vid of her and Eva was crying and Monica said" shhhh baby I'll take care of you"(or something like that )for me that sentence encapsutes how Monica feels about her daughter.

  18. HI Mam2e,

first of all I do like your nickname. Has it something to do with the fact that you are the mother of nice and cute children?

And regarding the Diana Gabaldon Series ... I am reading this series since almost twelve years! In the beginning I was so much rereading and interested to discuss but this changed totally.

Yes, the volumes of these books are challenging. But then you have so much reading matter to devour! And you don´t need to leave these character (each of them is so interesting and I´ve learnt so much during reading this series!).

For my personal taste a book can´t be long enough. The more pages the better for me. Allows me to live longer in this world! And the series is still going on, the author is posting every day lines of upcoming books or short stories of these books on her FB-page (but I don´t read them, I want to be surprised) and this amazing book forum where you could discuss all kinds of aspects of these books! And deeply!

Maybe I could convince you to start with....?

Hi SME and welcome to the forum

I am the mother to four lovely children and they all call me mam2me .

Thank you so much on the advice on the books .I have been thinking of starting them especially since we have a bit of a wait until CBY I find that it's a bit difficult to make a break from the Crossfire series and start something new because its so consuming and you end up reading them over and over but starting a new series will make the time go faster .

Like you I love long books if only you didn't have to hold it in your hand for hours :) .

I've enjoyed your posts you go into great detail which is wonderful .

    Thank you.

  19. Hi SME,

I have also read the Outlander series from Diana Gabaldon (who funnily enough looks a little like Sylvia Day) - or should I say I'm still reading it as the 8th book is due out in December. I love these books - can't wait for Jamie and Claire's story to continue!! I feel like I'm waiting for the next book all over the place - and I am not a patient person!!

I've heard a lot of good things about this series ,i've been thinking of starting just the size of each book is intimidating.
