  1. I'm going on vacation on Sunday and since I've already read the best summer read out there I thought I'd start with Bared all over again I was also thinking of starting that series with Ace which is by JD Robb that is one of Sylvia's favorite authors has anyone out there got a suggestion for me? Thanks in advance!!

I'm currently re-reading the JD Robb series and its also very good. Its really helped with the book hangover from both Reflected and Entwined .There are 40 plus books so it does keep you going .The other series I think is good is the Bronze Horseman Trilogy by Paulina Simmons it takes you through all the emotions .

  2. You've managed to crystalise it !

Gideon feels his father abandoned him didn't love him enough to stick around and Elizabeth did the same albeit differently. When he is in control things go the way he wants ,when he loses control as he has with Eva =uncertainty therefore scary.

I agree with you that he is taking on unnecessary blame for Hugh's suicide because he sees himself in Hugh's little boy more than he's seeing the monster that Hugh was and what he could potentially do to same little boy and what he had done to other kids Gideon included.

Above post answering both GiGi and Julie .

  3. Wowie Zowie Mam2e,

Let me see if I understand what you are saying here:

    • I could totally see Gideon being terrified by the fact that he needs Eva so much that it hurts him.  The woman who was supposed to love and protect him unconditionally didn't.  Elizabeth Vidal failed her son in the most fundamental ways.
    • The second issue is that of Gideon's fathers' suicide.  What we as the readers don't know is if or why Gideon might blame his father or himself for Geoffrey's sucide.  Children often blame themselves when their parents do something to affect the family dynamic (i.e. divorce, remarriage, suicide, etc.).
    • I can see Gieon blaming himself for Hugh's suicide because he was looking at the situation through the eyes of a child and not that of an adult.  An adult would understand that each and every person is responsible for his or her actions and that also includes a person committing suicide.
    • Gideon is blaming himself for confronting Hugh which was exactly the right thing to do.  In doing so, Gideon probably saved other children from being abused which is to be commended.  What Gideon saw however is that Hugh's small child was going to be left without a father.  That was't Gideon's doing.  It was Hugh's father.
You are correct, Gideon may feel very vulnerable about loving Eva.  He doesn't have any frame or reference when it comes to loving and being loved by another human being (which is really sad).  Instead of allowing love to empower and lift Gideon, he sees it as a hindrance (which is saddest of all).

When you describe it that way, Gideon and Eva's relationship is so fragile...I just hope that Gideon lets down his guard enough to let the healing and the love in that he and Eva so richly deserve.  Did I understand you correctly? :)

  4. Great explanation of Gideon's personality and why he does what he does!  The next time I read the books I will keep that in mind.

It is kind of sad to think that Gideon equates his love for Eva with a loss of control.  Love is supposed to set a person free; make them stronger, braver then they ever thought that they could be.  Has Gideon really accepted Eva's love?

    Hi GiGi

Is Gideon not afraid of losing control because the two people he loved was loved by let him down in such a big way first his father when he committed suicide and this struck me when he was having that conversation with Eva about Hugh and how Hugh's son would feel after he committed suicide something like he didn't love him enough to stay and second the betrayal by Elizabeth for all the reasons we've mentioned .Both of this events happened when he was a child and he had no control over the outcome they turned his life upside down and hurt him in unimaginable ways and now loving Eva the way he does takes him back to that point of vulnerability he escaped from and it scares him because in his experience he has no reason to trust love .I know what I'm trying to say not sure I'm getting it across.

  5. Hi Barb,

I live in Canada, so I am posting late.  I have had several critically ill relatives and have had to deal with hospital vigils and stuff, but God has been very merciful and two relatives thus far have pulled through. I feel very blessed and am grateful for this. :)

I usually see patients in the afternoon but have taken time off because of family illnesses.  I used to post in the evenings but my schedule got turned upside down (which is ok), but everything is slowly returning back to normal.

Today is also Canada Day, which means other than hospital visits, it is a holiday for my fellow Canadians.  Happy Canada Day to all of my Canadian counterparts.  :)

    Hi GiGi

So sorry to hear about your relatives .Blesings to you and yours. All things work together for good .........

  6. Kristen will have a lot more information since she was working the event and sitting with Sylvia but I'll pass on what I have.

My two favorite topics are Brett & Corinne so I'll start there.

When I asked about Corinne (I tried to rephrase my question a couple times) regarding how soon in book 4 she would hang around.  Sylvia said that was a spoiler questions.  However, the way she said it and her facial expression makes me think we haven't seen the last of Corinne, especially since we are going deeper into Gideon's story.

Brett again not too much information because the question was a spoiler but she did tell me that Eva is toying with fire a little.  This is because there is a tug of ware happening within her.  She is confused about what she sees as a complete 180 with Brett.  Brett played a big part in messing with her self-esteem issues and her self-esteem was already severely damaged by the abuse.  (I didn't get this part verbatim but almost) Eva is still playing with her former need to self destruction and this self destruction need to end. She has to put it to rest and that will happen via Brett.

This is very helpful .Can't thank you enough for sharing.

  7. Hello Ms. Rogue,

You are absolutely correct in your statement.  The video for Golden was based on the lyrics of the song.  I am not crucifying Brett based on the video.  I am lambasting that Horn dog Extraordinaire for his filthy mouth (i.e. the way he has spoken to Eva in the past) and his less than honourable actions.

You are correct.  I will not crucify a man for something he may or may not have done.  I will withhold judgment on that transgression.  I will however wash that boy’s mouth out with soap for how he has been conducting himself thus far. :D

Now someone be a dear please and get me that bar of SOAP!!! :D  :D  :D

DISCLAIMER:  I am in an exceptionally good mood today, with a hint of being oh so cheeky!  So my comments must be read with a grain of salt!  Have a fabulous Day!  :D

    Bwahahahaha @ horn dog extraordinaire

  8. When Gideon was relating his abuse to Eva, at the end of Reflected, he said he was left alone with him(Hugh) more and more. Where was Chris? I thought they were having treatment together, while the shrink saw Lizzy. Why was Gideon having therapy without an adult being present? Is it normal ?

    Morning Julie

It's possible that Hugh said he needed to see Gideon for individual therapy because he was so troubled and that he couldn't reach him with others there.Tis normal for therapists to see kids one on one .I do wish that Elizabeth had at the very least put up a hidden camera where they had sessions after Gideon told her what was being done to him .

  9. Hi everyone,

I was thinking about the possible scenarios and theories that everyone has posted and I was wondering how everyone would feel about creating a working theory model (a theory that would take into account as many possibilities or explanations as possible).  Everyone can add as much or as little.  Everyone can suggest theories or explanations for questions that may have been posted.  People can feel free to add questions to the working theory.

There have been forum members who have suggested that Monica/Clancy may have been responsible for covering up Nathan’s murder.  With that thought in mind; I had a few questions myself:

    • We know for sure that Gideon killed Nathan because Sylvia told us….but what she hasn’t revealed is how the scenario played out.
    • We know for sure that there were 10 days between Nathan attempting to blackmail Gideon, Monica and Stanton and him winding up dead.
    • We know for sure that Nathan was murdered.
    • We know for sure that Monica has a penchant for bugging and having her daughter tracked/trailed (i.e. through security guards, a bugging device in her compact mirror and her watch).

What we don’t for sure or could it be:

    • Could Monica have had Gideon tailed to monitor his movements?
    • Could Monica have been planning Nathan’s murder but Gideon beat him to the punch?
    • Could Monica have arrived after Gideon murdered Nathan and therefore would not have needed to pay off his blackmail demands or wouldn’t need to kill Nathan because he was already dead?

What we also know for sure about Monica is:

    • Monica is absolutely thrilled about Gideon and Eva’s relationship.  She has been counseling her daughter about how to keep a relationship with a man like Gideon.
    • Monica has done everything in her power to ensure that Eva’s “social reputation†has remained intact.
    • Money has always been very important to a woman like Monica.

    So:

    • Could Monica be responsible for the “cover-up†of Nathan’s murder because she realizes how much Gideon had risked for her daughter?

The only questions I keep coming back to are:

    • If each of these characters worked independently of one another then how did everything happen on that one particular day?
    • Why did everyone: Monica, Gideon and Stanton choose that day to pay off the blackmail demands and kill Nathan?

I have given one scenario for Monica and questions which I cannot account for.  Everyone feel free to jump in and add or delete as you wish.  If you don’t think that a question is relevant please explain your reasoning so everyone can follow along.

Ok, everyone feel free to jump in and add or detract. :)

Fabulous idea GiGi ,should help keep things interesting while we wait for CBY.

  10. Hi Mam2e,

You are correct.  I haven't ever been pregnant so I wouldn't know.  I simply based my speculation on my many Aunts and friends who had children.  Each and every single one of them had the worst morning sickness and pregnancy side effects that could be imagined.

I just thought of something.  How could Corinne not have known, wouldn't she have noticed that she wasn't getting her menstrual cycle?  Wouldn't a woman notice that she is missing her monthly cycle?  At the end of the day, you are correct.  Each pregnancy is different and some people may not notice immediately (four months just seems like a long time not to notice, but who knows?).  :)

I was just wondering, when does the baby start moving around?

    Morning GiGi

It's possible to get your period while pregnant initially ,it maybe less than normal but some ladies do and if you have no previous experience or expectation you can explain the symptoms away. All I was saying is that it's not outside of the realm of possibility that Corinne didn't know she was pregnant ,but given how Corinne has behaved in the past and how manipulative she's been I have to say Its difficult to think she didn't.She really is mentally unwell if she'd risk the life of her own child and swallow pills for one man even if that man is Gideon.

  11. Hi MicheleWV,

What I wonder is how Jean Francois had no idea that his wife was pregnant.  I don't buy that theory in the least.  Many forum members have said that it is possible that a person might not know that they are pregnant and I believe that in some cases this might be true.  If Corinne were petit, then wouldn't she start to show even a little by the fourth month?  What about the side effects of pregnancy?

I too am glad that Gideon and Eva are married.  It seems to have given both of these two the stability and security that they have both so desperately needed.  Now I want to see if they will actually make it down the isle without anyone finding out that these two are already married!  Then I could definitely see "fireworks" going off!!  The mother-in-laws are going to be key in this storyline!  Let the games begin! :)

    Hi GiGi

It is possible that JFG and Corrine didn't know she was pregnant ,with my first pregnancy I weighed 47kg and didn't find out I was pregnant till 22 weeks(fortunately I didn't have a lot of bad habits)The first time you don't really know what to look out for unless youre actively trying to get pregnant and are looking out for symptoms. I just put on a bit if weight and looked fuller but not just in my stomach all over and went off some food but you don't really pay attention nor do you relate the symptoms to pregnancy because you're not looking out for it but of course everyone is different as is every pregnancy.

  12. I think this is a lot of Lizzie Vidals problem with Eva; she is very jealous of the fact that Eva has such an emotional connection with her son and that she was actually able to break down his barriers and get to the truth and Eva supported him unconditionally something his mother apparently could not do... Oh when she finds out the truth she will have 100 times more guilt than Monica ever had because she continued to let that abuser into her home ...maybe she will finally realize why the Vidal estate makes Gideon's skin crawl!!!

    +1.

  13. You make a really good point about Eva's emotional connect to Gideon and Elizabeth's lack thereof to her own son!  Wow!  On some level Elizabeth must surely be a little envious about Eva's connection to Elizabeth's son.  :)

I don't get Elizabeth all these years that she's had a cold distant relationship with her son why did she think that was ?She didn't consider at any point that Gideon could have been telling the truth even when as an adult he can't go to his family home? She then is hostile to / jealous of the one person (Eva) who has gotten Gideon to open up and could give her insight into what is going on with her son.I still maintain that somewhere deep inside she knows and just refuses to face it .

  14. Hi Mam2e,

I agree with your assessment.  I think that Eva may feel a twinge of romantic nostalgia when it comes to Brett but could it be that she also feels uncomfortable with her memories of how she degraded herself for love and that it was never reciprocated? I don't know if Eva is confusing guilt with attraction.  Eva was never able to truly be herself with Brett.  She was always what Brett wanted her to be and that's not love.

You and many other ladies in the forum are correct.  Eva has many issues that she needs to resolve.  I think that given time and space, the answers to her problems may fall into place. I think that if Brett tried something during a weak moment, Eva might remember back to when Brett and she kissed and then also remember just how devastated and hurt Gideon was when he found them.  I think everything would fall into place for Eva in an instant.

Eva has had so much to deal with in her personal life that she hasn't even had a moment to breathe let alone process what has happened and how she feels about everything that has happened.  That may happen for Eva when she is on the airplane with Cary or maybe it will happen when she's at her dads' place or maybe even still when she's with Dr. Travis.  Or it could be one simple moment when she is on the phone talking to Gideon.  I really believe that everything will fall into place for her.

Or better still, maybe Brett will show his true colours, act like a jerk and then Eva can give him a good "smack across the chops" and dump ihim into the discard pile.  Only Sylvia knows thus far and she's not telling. :)

What do you think?  What does everyone think?

I agree with you Eva is carrying a lot and she doesn't have time to process and I suppose as well since she's had to conceal a lot of stuff from Cary she doesn't even have that support.

I will sing Hallelujah the day things fall into place for her and she kicks him to the curb. The exes really need to go I miss the days in Bared when it was just them we got a lot of that in Entwined too .

  15. Hi Mam2e,

You are absolutely correct!  I have no idea how a mother would feel or even begin to figure out what to do if she found out that her child was telling the truth about being se*ually abused for all those years!  It wouldn't be just that, Elizabeth Vidal would have to then realize that she sent her son back to that pedophile and basically handed her son to him on a platter.  I don't know if that is something Elizabeth Vidal would be able to overcome?  What do you think?  What does everyone think?

When you say "handed her son to him on a platter" my heart stopped ,because that's essentially what she did.Its going to be bad because at the Vidal garden party Eva could see she loves her son .
