  1. Hi, sscrph

I don't mind at all coz that's the idea *wink*

I posted it yesterday after my posting about the characters in BTY.

    I re-post it for you:

Well, here's the part 2 of the yoyo (LN Cronan named it the "yo-you" *wink*) pattern I found in BTY:

    Chapter 11: Brain Gym: F-L-U-K-E

    Resolution: H-U-R-T

    Chapter 13: The Classics

    Resolution: The Drill

Chapter 15: The Sole Eyewitness: Oral Skills-Based Assessment

Resolution: The Uninterrupted Intimately Crossfiristic Act

    Chapter 17: Carte Blanche

    Resolution: Under Seige

    Chapter 19: The Countdown

    Resolution: The Letdown

    Chapter 21: Slammed!

    Resolution: Reaffirmation Key

    What do you think?

    Thank you, sscrph

    You all ROCK!

  2. Hi, sscrph

    1. I've edited my questions about Geoffrey Cross and Monica Tramell by adding "I should've clearly mentioned these questions are for you, Sylvia."

    2. My question was "Did Eva's mother suffer from postpartum depression?" It's a simple Y/N question that I hope Sylvia would answer.

    3. Please keep in mind that I do realize it's not a matter of like/dislike. It's important, IMO, to be fully informed about the reason(s) behind Monica's behavior. Hence my question above. Eva knew something I don't about Monica that made Eva act the way she did to her mother. I expect this will be revealed in EWY.

Btw, I'd like to know more about Gideon's conversation with his mother regarding Cary in Chapter 16. Did you get the chance to ask about it on live chat with Sylvia?

Oh, one more thing. What do you think about my yoyo pattern part 2? *wink*

    Thank you, sscrph.

    XOXO

  3. I don't hate Monica either. Eva's reaction to what was going on was to withdraw, especially because Nathan was terrorizing her into silence.

That said, Monica obviously was devoting too much time to being a high society wife and not enough time mothering her daughter and stepson. She's guilty of neglect.

I don't hate Monica either, especially if she suffered from postpartum depression (or whatever her health condition was).

I take my cues from Eva. She didn't hate her mother, she gave her special care and attention instead. I think there must be something that Eva, even as a young girl, knew and understood about her mother's state. And having her mother seeing an expert on a regular basis to make her (Monica) at a better well-being would be plausible to make Eva withdraw. I guess as a daughter she wanted to have a happy and healthy (aka emotionally/psychologically capable of being a) mother. In return, she hoped she could be a happy and healthy daughter.

    Peruse away, ladies.

    [Edit: 20/05/13]

Vague arguments. Patiently waiting for the book(s). Still don't hate her, though *wink*

  4. Or even, maybe by the time Eva was 10 years old and Nathan was 12 years old, Nathan was appointed to babysit Eva. Age 12 is around the neighborhood of when kids are old enough to be responsible for younger siblings, and is around the age that kids (especially girls) will start earning money by being babysitters. I myself started babysitting at age 12.

My point exactly. Monica would probably have scheduled consultation with some expert to cope with her postpartum depression. She would leave Eva alone on a regular basis and Nathan took advantage of it. Perhaps it was a little too late for her (Monica) to finally get a proper treatment that resulted in her being emotionally/psychologically incapable of being a mother.

Thank you, LN Cronan for answering my question about Gideon's meds.

    [Edit:20/05/13]

I consider "Monica Tramell Barker Mitchell Stanton" as a timeline and the number 3 question above popped up in my mind. Have no strong reasons for it. Have decided to wait and... read

  5. [Hi, sscrph! Perhaps I wasn't being clear about it. I revisit and revise, then *wink*]

    Ladies,

Do you realize there's a yoyo pattern in every other chapter throughout the book?

From the whole 22 chapters, there'll be 11 conflicts and resolutions for the characters, especially the main characters.

When we reach chapter 10, it's the 8th day of the story and we already got 5 conflicts and resolutions:

Chapter 1: The mystery of the Dark and Dangerous' Identity

    Resolution: Identity Revealed

Chapter 3: The Unresolved Cerebrally Humorous Arguments

    Resolution: The Circumvent

Chapter 5: The Soon-To-Be-Fulfilled Intimately Dark Promise

    Resolution: Dark, Indeed: Postcoitus Funk

    Chapter 7: The Cut Off

    Resolution: The Deal: Exclusivity

    Chapter 9: Excruciatingly Devalued

    Resolution: Letting You In

    What do you think?

Well, here's the part 2 of the yoyo (LN Cronan named it the "yo-you" *wink*) pattern I found in BTY:

    Chapter 11: Brain Gym: F-L-U-K-E

    Resolution: H-U-R-T

    Chapter 13: The Classics

    Resolution: The Drill

Chapter 15: The Sole Eyewitness: Oral Skills-Based Assessment

Resolution: The Uninterrupted Intimately Crossfiristic Act

    Chapter 17: Carte Blanche

    Resolution: Under Seige

    Chapter 19: The Countdown

    Resolution: The Letdown

    Chapter 21: Slammed!

    Resolution: Reaffirmation Key

    What do you think?

  6. *finally finished reading BTY together with you all, ladies*

I'd like to share what I have in mind with you (and Sylvia) about the characters in BTY:

    1. GidEva (Gideon and Eva)

I expect to see less clueless mega mogul Gideon and hope to get more love struck Alpha male Gideon *wink* As for Eva, I want her to transform slowly into a rock-solid Eva, not only as a girlfriend of a broken individual, but also as a survivor.

    2. Mark, Steven, and Shawna

They're excellent sidekick combo *grin* I think Gideon and Cary should spend some time with them. Perhaps Mark and Steven could talk some sense into Cary and Shawna could somehow make Gideon completely understand that women need boundaries (slim odds, but fingers crossed)

    3. Geoffrey Cross and Monica Tramell

[Edit: 14/05/13 I should've clearly mentioned that these questions are for you, Sylvia] Tidbits of answers are needed for my questions: "Was there any witness when Gideon's father commited suicide?" and "Did Eva's mother suffer from postpartum depression?"

    4. Martin Stanton and Ireland Vidal

I think it would be a huge help if Eva has Martin as a friend and Ireland as a little sister (Martin and Ireland, you've just got yourselves a fan!)

  7. Hello, ladies

    Chapter 22

    1. My favorites

line: Except for the one I want who spends a lot of time running in the opposite direction (p. 331)

paragraph: "Think carefully, Gideon. I have exes in my past, too. You're setting the precedent now for how I'll handle them. I'm taking my cues from you." (p. 333)

    scene: Gideon preparing Eva's clothes

    2. When I read this chapter, the one question that popped up in my mind was "What did Gideon actually forget?"

  8. Chapter 21

    My Favorites

    1. line: I am home (p. 325)

    2. paragraph: And yet I understood the alienation of being around others who couldn't really see you or chose not to. I'd felt the self-loathing that came with being a fraud, portraying an image of what you wished you could be but weren't. I'd lived with the fear that the people you loved might turn away from you if they ever got to know the true person hidden inside (p. 326)

    3. scene: Gideon rubbing Eva's raccoon eyes

    Peruse away, ladies

  9. *thank you, LN Cronan for the"yo-you" pattern*

    Chapter 20

    My Favorites

    1. line: "Yes, but I'm the only one who's supposed to be seeing, since I'm the only one who's allowed to be getting." (p. 306)

    2. paragraph: The mask slipped smoothly into place. His irises chilled to an icy blue and his sensual mouth lost any hint of curve. I could almost feel the force of his will enclosing us. There was a shield between us and the rest of the world simply because he wished it to be there. Standing beside him, I knew no one would approach or speak to me until he gave them some sign that they could (p. 307)

    3. scene: Martin's conversation with Eva (I'd love to see Martin again, Sylvia)

  10. Hello, ladies

I realize there's a yoyo pattern in every other chapter throughout the book. As I already mentioned on One Chapter A Day Re-Read thread, there'll be 11 conflicts and resolutions in BTY. However, Sylvia cleverly blurred the pattern in RIY. I'm guessing the originally 20 chapter manuscript was greatly edited and deleted, leaving just enough pieces of paragraph to be inserted in its published final chapter [please correct me if I'm wrong, Sylvia *wink*] Delayed gratification, indeed.

Friday - which means we're getting a snapshot today, probably at 9 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time based on when all the other ones thus far have hit the Internet.

Today will be a glimpse into Chapter 16. Recap of the snapshots of chapters 1-15:

    1. The word "Press" over a fuzzy shot of a newspaper page, and a fancy pen in the foreground. (And now we know this meant the new character, Deanna Johnson, a reporter out to hurt Gideon by digging up dirt from his dark past.)

    2. Unwrapped Christmas present boxes

    3. The word "Business" next to a cup of coffee

    4. A microphone on a stand

    5. A pile of neatly-folded white terrycloth towels, wrapped in a red ribbon.

    6. A bathtub in a modern-style bathroom

    7. An open bottle of red wine, nearly full, and in front of it, one wine glass holding some wine. Near it is a small vase holding four red roses.

    8. Two different types of pills in blister packs plus a bottle of some sort of liquid medication. The meds are on a glass coffee table in front of a white couch.

    9. Fuzzy shot of a crowded dance floor. One woman in the center of the shot is in semi-focus.

    10. A diamond and gold women's watch.

    11. An Aston Martin sports car

    12. * NEW - A vase of white roses with a card that says "Happy" (can't see what) and signed xoxoxoxo. This was newly-substituted yesterday (Thursday) from the original shot, of an elevator bank.

    13. Pieces of women's clothing scattered at the foot of a bed.

    14. An NYPD detective shield (badge).

    15. A man's hand grasping a bed sheet

When I read the first chapter of EWY, I recognize that the yoyo pattern still exists. Just like in BTY, I'm introduced to the conflict right from the start. And it's clear now that the pen shown in snapshot #1 can both apply to the reporter and the penitentiary. That's why I give name to the conflict as "The Lurking PEN" (I posted this on EWY-Chapter One thread).

Served as resolution, I'm sure Chapter 2 will focus mostly on GidEva (Gideon and Eva). Snippet #2, snapshot #2, and the sneak peek work hand in hand to portray the emotionally scorching love scene. Putting it aside, the crux of this chapter would be the trade Eva addressed in Oscar Night snippet. They reached an agreement of a solid ground in their relationship; to have each other amidst crisis. I think "Together We Can" would be suitable for this chapter.

PS: LN Cronan, you have created snapshot-based theories for EWY after I posted the yoyo pattern (the one with "The Unresolved Cerebrally Humorous Arguments" *grin*). I think it'd be great if you re-post it here. I'd love to do it for you, but I'm not that computer savvy *blushing*

    You all rock!

  11. Eva herself had the same fear that Elizabeth may have loved Gideon "too much" but she has discarded this theory maybe Gideon just meant his mom is a COUGAR...

    Hi, sscrph

I have my own idea regarding this scene. I posted it in my Chapter 16 on One Chapter A Day thread. It's right above LN Cronan's Chapter A Day Re-Read Project--Chapter 17 posting. Care to share your thoughts about it?

    Thank you :)

  12. Hello, ladies

    Chapter 17

    My Favorites

    1. line: Are you projecting? (p. 253)

    2. paragraph: "You've asked me to reacquaint your body with acts previously used to hurt and terrorize you. I can't tell you what your trust means to me or what it would do to me if I broke that trust. I can't risk it, Eva. We have to do this right." (p. 248)

    3. scene: Eva slid the ring onto the ring finger of her right hand

    XOXO

  13. Hello, ladies

    Chapter 16

    1. My Favorites

line: Quantity to be determined (p.243)

paragraph: "Yes, I do." His voice had that wickedly assertive bite to it. "If you crave something, I'll be the one to give it to you. All of your needs, Eva, are mine to fulfill. Whatever it costs me." (p. 235)

scene: Gideon gazing at a huge collage of blown-up photos on the wall in his home office

    2. Has anyone ever speculated about Geoffrey Cross' physical appearance? I think there's something in Cary's. He's leanly built, dark-haired, and green-eyed which Eva thought could give Gideon a run for his looks (p. 83). Even Elizabeth Vidal complimented him by using the word "divine" (p. 220). But it's Gideon's remark "I thought you might like him" (p. 242) that got my attention. I had the impression that it's not merely about him being "the life of the party."

We all know Gideon got his good looks from his mother (RIY, p. 297), but nothing has been mentioned about his father's. When he said his thoughts to his mother with "something that was too sharp to be a smile" (p. 242), I perceived it as his way of saying,"Hey, Mom. Do you see the resemblance?"

    What do you think?

  14. Hello, ladies

    Chapter 15

    My Favorites

    1. line: Your past doesn't have the power to push me away (p. 226)

    2. paragraph: "I never stopped wanting you," I whispered. "I can't stop. But you hurt me, Gideon. You have the power to hurt me like no one else can." (p. 226)

    3. scene: Ireland's conversation with Eva

    Peruse away, ladies

  15. It's way too intense!!! *holding up a GidEva X EVA poster*

(okay, that's my cheesy way of saying "Gideon+Eva For Ever" LOL)

I recognize the yoyo pattern here. Just like in BTY, we have the conflict in Chapter 1.

So, it's Chapter 1: The Lurking PEN

The pen, as it's shown in the snapshot, can both apply to the journalist and the penitentiary.

    Are you with me, sscrph?

  16. [Hi, GiGi! You should check the EWY-Chapter One thread out]

    Chapter 14

    My Favorites

    1. line: The only control I had was to be the one who left, instead of the one who was left behind (p. 211)

    2. paragraph: My breath hissed out between my teeth. I wasn't sure what Gideon's motivation was, but the possibility that he'd dumped me over Nathan and was now making sure that he was safe from scandal hurt worse than anything. I twisted in pain, my spine arching away from the seat back. I'd thought it was his past that drove a wedge between us but it made more sense that it was mine (p. 208)

    3. scene: Cary comforting Eva

*snapshot #15 and a chapter! yay!!*

  17. *so excited about the up coming EWY Chapter 1*

    Chapter 13

    My Favorites

    1. line: You eat with gusto (p. 193)

    2. paragraph: I walked faster. I knew how he felt: the sickness in the gut that spread like cancer, the helpless anger, and the need to curl up in private and find the strength to shove the memories back into the deep, dark hole they still lived in (p. 197)

    3. scene: Cary linking his arm with Eva's

  18. *finally done with the chapters I missed! yay!!*

    Chapter 6

    My Favorites

    1. line: I got through it by telling myself you're too smart to take chances, thanks to two parents who've drilled safety rules into your DNA (p. 81)

    2. paragraph: The women stood waiting to get on. Their jaws dropped when they saw Gideon and Cary, and that lightened my mood and made me smile (p. 87)

    3. scene: Gideon waiting for Eva in her living room

  19. Hello, ladies

    Chapter 5

    My Favorites

    1. line: From the burn, it's hair of the dog (p. 69)

    2. paragraph: As I studied the gift, I found it very apt. Since meeting Gideon I'd felt like I'd fallen down the rabbit hole into a fascinating and seductive world where few of the known rules applied. I was in uncharted territory that was both exciting and scary (p. 69)

    3. scene: Paul's friendly conversation with Eva about spa.
