  1. I was walking by a jewelry shop the other day staring at the engagement rings in the window, when it struck me how sweet the whole engagement ring thing was in the book.

Gideon gave Eva his mom's ring which I would imagine he'd had for some time as part of his inheritance. Or, regardless of when took possession of it, he probably would have had access to it since he was 18, if not sooner.

Yet, when talking about Corrine, he said that he went into one jewelry store and picked out a random engagement ring that looks like her mom's. Gideon didn't give Corinne his mom's ring. Even at that age, still messed up inside his head, and however grateful he was for her love, he knew she didn't deserve his family heirloom. so sweet...

Not sure if anyone brought that up before in this forum, but ring connection just hit me, and it was yet more proof of how special Eva is to him. it made me smile. :)

  2. I'm a little embarrassed to admit this, but I've had a whole Gideon playlist on my phone since the first book. I've got about 40 songs on it, but here are some highlights.

The VLA - "When I am Through with You"

It works in a literal sense for all the women Gideon left in his wake, but it also applies to Eva, too, in a softer way.

When I am through with you,
    There won't be anything left.
When I am through with you.

Oh come back now where did you go?
No need to cower, don't know
If i can even turn your light on

    Hello, Daisy, is that you
    Hiding in the grass?
    I've come to pluck you,
I'm gonna pluck you right in half.

When I am through with you,

    There won't be anything left.

Another, more obvious choice, Sarah Mclachlin - "Angel"

Not sure if anyone suggested that one yet, but it's so perfect for Gideon.

in the arms of the angel

    fly away from here

from this dark cold hotel room

and the endlessness that you fear

you are pulled from the wreckage

    of your silent reverie

you're in the arms of the angel

may you find some comfort here

Joseph Arthur - "Honey and the Moon"

So perfect for when Gideon first meets Eva with that whole "I want to **** you" line

Don't know why I'm still afraid

If you weren't real I would make you up

    now

I wish that I could follow through

I know that your love is true

    and deep as the sea

    but right now

    everything you want is wrong,

    and right now

all your dreams are waking up,

    and right now

I wish I could follow you

    to the shores of freedom,

    where no one lives.

I could go on with the rest of my playlist, but I'll spare everyone before this post gets too long! :)

  3. I think Brett is a problem.  When Eva interacts with Brett, either on the phone or in person, her mind takes her back to their steamy s*x life.  It seems that she can't more on and that spells danger.  I don't think their is any love there but Eva can't deal with Brett in a rational way because of their history and that spells danger in my opinion.

I agree. Nearly every time she talks to him or sees him, she's still talking about how hot he is....how great his body is....how seductive his voice is. If she had truly let go by now, she wouldn't be nearly as phased by his looks or voice. She's still reconciling her feelings for him. And, finding out your ex that treated you like crap not only wants you back, but has been using you as his muse? Well if that's not an ego boost, I don't know what is. I think she's using his interest in the same way she used to use the s*x...as a cheap way to make herself feel better. I don't think for a minute she'll cheat on gideon, but she needs Dr. Travis ASAP!

  4. Hi Orangeena,

I am not a lawyer either but I do know that a lawyer cant' just listen to his client tell him how he/she committed a murder and then the lawyer can go into court and argue that their client is innocent. I agree there is client-attorney privilege which is absolutely true but a lawyer can't go into court and lie to the court and tell the judge that his/her client is innocent. I hope that someone in the forum who is a legal expert can chime in to clarify this point.

Your theory about Detective Graves is just as plausible as anyone else's. Thanks for the discussion. :)

Most lawyers don't try to prove innocence...even with an innocent client. They argue not guilty. The difference being they don't have to volunteer any information about why the client is innocent which could be in conflict with what they know, just reasons why the prosecution isn't correct with their charges. It's true a lawyer can't present anything that would perjure themself, but all they need to do is poke holes to create reasonable doubt. Even before the mafia tangle, Gideon's case would have been nothing but a bunch of circumstantial evidence and it would be easy to argue "you can't prove it" to everything the prosecution had, even if Gideon had confessed to him. I'm sure cases with solid evidence are harder for the lawyer, if they have a confession, but luckily gideon was too smart to leave any traces behind. :)
  5. Do we ever get any sense if how long Gideon's abuse went on? We know Eva's was about four years, but what about Gideon?

How long before he told his mom? How long did it continue after? I'm hoping, believing him or not, the uproar at least got the pedophile out if the house, but I could also see Lizard keeping the therapy sessions going until it was "proven" and then, when it wasn't according to Dr. Lucas, continuing them still.

  6. Also, I do not think that Gideon's "obsession" with brunettes has to do with Corinne, I think that this has to do with his mother.

OMG! I never thought about that before, but you're so dead on. I think it even speaks to how he treated women. Not wanting any emotional attachment, using them and discarding them without a second thought... The same way Gideon was used, in part because of his mother. I wonder if she went after his friends in high school. Marrying Vidal sounds like it was mostly for security and stability, so she may have been bored and gotten a little to friendly when he brought friends home....thus perpetuating the "using and discarding" pattern.

  7. Is anyone else getting a little worried about how Eva and Gideon are getting a little lax about falling asleep next to each other? He still has issues. We saw that when he grabbed her wrist when Eva came running into him during his last nightmare. I think this issue is going to bubble up at least one more time, especually if the next two books are about Gideon working through his problems.

I hope things don't get too far out of control, but I definitely think we haven't seen the last of the issue.

  8. Hi Jewhite611,

Welcome to the fo rum.  I hope you enjoy yourself. :)

In response to some of your questions, it was my understanding that Eva made Clancy aware that the jig was up.  She knew that she was being tracked and she didn't appreciate it one bit.

I think that the only person who knows that Gideon killed Nathan is Eva.  I don't think that Gideon would have confessed to his lawyer about committing a murder.  I think that the lawyer would be under some kind of legal obligation to report a crime, but there are others who are experts (lawyers) in the forum who would be able to answer that question with a certain accuracy.

I personally don't think that Detective Graves is on Gideon's side whatsoever.  I think that she would absolutely pin Nathan's murder on Gideon if she had enough evidence, but thus far she doesn't.  She only has her own suppositions and speculations.  She doesn't have a shred of evidence (finger prints, blood, fibres, photos, surveilence footage, eye witnesses, etc.) against Gideon so she can't procede.  What does everyone else think?

I'm not a lawyer but I do know that anything at all you tell a lawyer under retainer is attorney-client privilege and is completely protected...at least in the US. Defense laweys would have a hard time doing their job if their clients couldn't be fully candid with them. (Not that all clients are...) I don't think Gideon would have told the lawyer, though. Even if the lawyer suspected, though, it's his job to keep him out of jail and he couldn't repeat a single word Gideon said to anyone...even if Gideon confessed to a multitude of crimes. I don't think that Gideon would have told angus either, but angus is a smart guy and probably knows.

I have a different take of detective graves. I think she knows it was Gideon (or at least did until the whole mafia hit) but she had no proof whatsoever and now has reasonable doubt. I don't think she's on anyone's side at all... Not even Nathan's. she knew what nathan did ans it was through her we found out his own dad didn't care about him anymore. I think she's unbiased and just wants the truth....I could be way off though. only Sylvia knows right now...what I wouldn't give to be her editor or work at her publishing company!!

  9. On the subject of Eva still working out her anger against Gideon for his having used Corrine -- and his celebrityhood -- to hurt Eva.

Bottom of page 225, her telling about the dinner reservation she made for her and Brett at Tableau One, the restaurant Gideon co-owns with his longtime personal friend, celebrity chef Arnoldo Ricci.

" ... I had to use your name to get on the (reservation) list, but Brett asked me out to dinner and I wanted us to go to a place connected with you."

When Gideon started going out with Corrine again, the first place he took her was on a dinner date to Tableau One, where he'd taken Eva just four nights earlier. He could have gotten a good table at any restaurant in New York, but he picked that one.

Eva is getting even by picking Tableau One, instead of any other good restaurant. Dropping Brett's name, she could have gotten a reservation at many other good places.

A paparazzi got pictures of Gideon having dinner with Corrine at Tableau One, thereby starting the media feeding frenzy about Gideon reuniting with Corrine. When Eva got even by taking Brett to lunch the next day, she harbored an angry impulsive hope a paparazzi would shoot a picture of her out with Brett, so Eva deliberately chose lunch at a restaurant where some paparazzi had photographed her and Cary having lunch, that started the rumors she and Cary were sexually involved.

Eva subconsciously hoping a paparazzi will get pictures of her and Brett out to dinner, and start a feeding frenzy of rumors they're dating? Getting even with Gideon for having indirectly humiliated Eva as having meant little to him, so now Eva is making it look like mere weeks later, she's already gotten over Gideon?

The second time Gideon took Corrine out, it involved something that "connected" Gideon and Eva -- the Kingsman vodka advertising campaign. Gideon took Corrine to a work-related PR event for Kingsman, an event by it's very nature was designed to get media attention, including photographers.

Eva is getting even by letting Brett take her to a Vidal Records corporate event, a PR event by it's very nature is designed to get media attention, including photographers. Guaranteed she and Brett will come under joint attention, because she's the girl in "Golden."

Gideon arranged the Kingsman the event behind the backs of Eva's agency, which was working only on the advertising campaign. He had his PR people set up the event, and never bothered to tell anyone from Eva's agency about it, despite the fact he had a meeting with Eva's agency mere hours before the event.

Eva getting even by making sure Gideon was going to find out second hand about her and Brett going to Tableau One, because she used Gideon's name to get the reservation. When was she planning to tell Gideon where she was having dinner? He's the one who brought the subject up, not the other way around.

Eva made it clear to Gideon that Brett asked her out to dinner, not the other way around.

Revenge for Gideon having asked his ex out.

From pages 13-14 of Entwined, Gideon and Eva were making love again for the first time, and she scratched and then bit him. "To punish as well as pleasure. To make him experience some small measure of what I had when he'd pushed me away."

From page 176 of Reflected, what Eva said when she figured out her motive for having kissed Brett in a place where Gideon was certain to come across them. "Because you deserved it! Because you should know what it feels like! How bad it hurts ..."

So now she's set things up to let Gideon know exactly how it feels to have to endure media coverage of her and Brett, rumors running wild that they're reunited -- and Gideon is history, little more than a summer fling. She's now back with Brett, who publicly wooed her (via the love song and at least one media interview.) Because Corrine "got him back" by publicly chasing him at a high-society event, and when Gideon set up the lie he was back with Corrine, Eva came across as just a summer fling, not someone he'd loved.

I interpreted the Tableau One choice differently. I think Eva went out with Brett because of the pain that she was still working through of Gideon spending time with Corrine, but I don't think her choice in restaurant was malicious. At that point, they both seemed to be trying to meet each other half way and choosing a place where Gideon (or Arnoldo) could watch over her, was part of that, despite her judgement to meet Brett.

One thing does amaze me about Eva's and Gideon's reunion.... If I was Eva (Ha! I wish!) Anyway, if I was her, in addition to the pain of the separation that Gideon caused, I would be devastated by how the press wil inevitably have a field day being spotted together again.

Gideon and Eva get together. Gideon dumps her for an old flame. Eva welcomes him back with open arms. Eva's publicly portrayed as a doormat...just another girl willing to put up with anything Gideon dishes out just to keep him.

She and Gideon know there's more to the story, as do we, BUT, if I would still be sickened by what the public thought of me. It's rough enough sometimes when you hear a friend thinks badly of you. I can't imagine being dragged through the press like that. I'm sure perception will change some once the public wedding actually happens...until then, with his history, I'm sure everyone thinks Eva is just Gideon's doormat of choice for the moment.

Eva clearly is dealing with some hurt, but I think she's handling it really darn well. Probably better than I would be. No matter how well intentioned he was and how thankful I would be to him, I would still be devastated that he was capable of hurting me that much...especially all for the public watch it play out.

Was anyone else surprised how well she handled things? Outside of a few hiccups, she really seemed to go from devastated to happy in lightening speed.

  10. I know! When she was voicing Gideon I couldn't handle it.

Are there any versions with a guy doing the voice?

If you're looking for a reading with a male voice, below is a link to a youtube channel where a guy and girl read a lot of romances together. EWY isn't there yet, but RIY is. The readings aren't as professional quality as the official, of course, but they're decent and the guy's got a pretty good male voice...much better than Eva's rendition in the official audio book!

  11. Another thought about Elizabeth.  I wonder if Eva is going to share with Gideon her conversation with his mother.  That might have an interesting outcome.

That would be interesting. Perhaps if will force Gideon to deal with his mother once and for all like Eva thought he needed too.

Frankly, I thought Lizzie was flat out delusional with the whole "you won't take my son away from me" bit. Gideon probably hasn't broached the abuse issue in ages, so she thinks it's all in the past, but has she never noticed that he won't come to the house, that he won't hug her back, that he's a block of ice when he talks to her? She's clearly not dealing with reality if she still thinks her son has any affection for her whatsoever....and even more so, if she can't figure out why...

  12.

I noticed several people talking about the audio books.  I love mine.  Anyway here is a free offer.

Ack. All this time I've been pronouncing her name wrong in my head! I always thought it was EE-VA (long E). But in this recording it's AY-VA (long A).

I can't be alone in this, can I?

thanks for the link. I'm definitely downloading....my mind is going to be jostled every time I hear her name, though. lol

  13. Does anyone think that Gideon will visit Corrine over the weekend when Eva and Cary are away in SD?

I think he'll go with her. He'll oversee the whole Brett situation. He'll spend time dealing with the video issue. And He'll prove once and for all that he can leave Corrine in the dust...especially since JFG will probably explode if he sees him again. Plus, deep down Gideon has to know that Corrine knew she was pregnant. And he must also realize that she schemed to cut him the deepest way possible with her suicide attempt. With those two things, hopefully he'll finally see her true colors.

  14. Who do you think the 10th floor is being remodelled for?

    Mrs Cross. :D

Mr Cross has big plans for Mrs Cross. :D

OMG! I never even thought about that. Perhaps it is his master plan for Eva's career. She said he seemed to know his way around the construction site. If it was just some random tenant that leased the space, he probably wouldn't know much about how the space was being configured...he's got plenty of people to oversee those details...unless the space meant something personally to him.

Perhaps they christened her new office! :)

  15. On your #1 I do think that was odd for him to be called to the bosses office???

Not per se. Being called to the bosses office is par for any job. BUT, I think it was odd that out of all the interactions Eva and Mark ever had, this is the first time a boss is ever even mentioned. In the books, Mark and Eva's relationship was working together, the presentation with Gideon in BTY, and occasional lunches. In the mornings, their interaction was ALWAYS a brief chat then "let's get to work." In the grand scheme of all the books, it was just out of character...and there was never any explanation about winning (or losing) an account like they speculated.

  16. two questions.... sorry if they've been covered earlier, this thread is too out of control to keep up...and I love it. :)

    1. did anyone else think it was weird the way Mark was asked to stop by the head of the agency's office? It was right after Gideon was trying to get Eva to work for him, so thought he'd found a way to get her amicably laid off or something. At the charity event they mentioned not wanting to lose her, so obviously that wasn't the case, but it seemed like an odd detail to throw in. Maybe that was just a way of introducing the chairman's character?

    2. Anyone else's radar up about Megumi being sick? She's a peripheral character so I don't see her connected to any of the drama. But it seemed strange the way it was turned into a such a big deal for Eva. She's a friend to lean on, but Eva wouldn't have been able to tell her anything anyway.

I took a fiction writing class in college....and by saying that, I am not at all implying I'm an expert...I'm far, far from it!  Anyway, my point being, one of the things the professor said always stuck with me: Every word should have a purpose. So, for the two details above, seemingly inconsequential, but left up in the air, I'm left wondering 'what's the purpose?' Maybe there isn't one...but they've still been bugging me.

  17. Does anyone obey these days?

lol. No, but Gideon hasn't given up trying with Eva.  And he's eluded several times to the fact that he's 'working his way in' to bind her from the inside out.

I have to admit, I wish EIY had explored a little more exactly how far he would go sexually. He's certainly no Christian Grey by any means, but we've yet to see him fully unleashed. Understandably, so he doesn't scare Eva, but nevertheless, when he tells Eva his weekend plans are "diabolical," I was thrilled about the wedding, but part of me was hoping it was a sexual reference to learn more about that side of him. Perhaps Eva derailed him on the plane....but then, I can't see him going too far out there on their wedding weekend anyway.

  18. Hi Julie!

I agree, I think Im in the minority here when I say I dont want to know their vows... They would write new ones or even repeat the ones they said in their private ceremony, but to be honest I was never one to like hearing people's vows. Im super private when it comes to stuff like that so I would be totally fine if we dont get to hear them.

I kind of liked not hearing their vows, too. I have to admit, though, if they went the traditional route, I desperately want to know if the "to obey" was left in. I highly doubt it was. Eva would never go for it!

Considering how comprehensive the prenup was, there's a part of me that's surprised Gideon didn't put it in there! haha

  19. He  covered this  action  by saying there   will be times  that  she  needs to trust  him.     And  being married  helps  her  to feel  more  secure  when  he does things  like  this.   He  may  not have  wanted  anyone to follow  his trail to  CA and had  to know for

sure if the  tape  existed  before  mentioning it  to Eva.

Who  thinks he watched the  whole  video?

I don't think he watched the whole thing. Even just knowing it's out there I'm sure sickened him, but watching a minute or two of the PG rated part to authenticate it pushed him to a place he didn't want to go. I think this may have been part of the reason why, despite having his pills at Eva's, he went next door to their apartment, rather than back to Eva or her guest room to be closer.

  20. Eva gives Gideon a hard time about not disclosing facts to her ie Ian suing Gideon, but she kept from Gideon for nearly a week that she and Cary were taking off to San Diego. She should practice what she preaches.

hahaha! good point! They've both got work to do.

Gideon more than her though, I think. He disappeared to California without telling her...after they were married! He said he was busy the whole time...and I'm sure he was...but, REALLY? Not even time for a 2 minute call or text message???

I wonder if he was unintentionally (and completely unconsciously) punishing her for the extra drama.

  21. The more I think about I think Eva is in awe and hardly believes she is married.  I occurred to me that maybe she is still trying to preserve that "intimate and deeply personal" feeling she had at the ceremony.

I agree.  Eva is afraid but she knows deep down that marrying Gideon is what they both need, not only for the security but also to heal.

I agree she's processing and want's to keep the personal moment to herself until she's come to terms with it. After all, it was incredibly spur of the moment. They talked about marriage, but I'm sure she never expected to be proposed to and married within 24 hours.

I also think she's trying to deal with the whole "mogul's wife" thing that comes with this new territory. She mentioned it several times...once even before they were married, walking through the resort, and then several times after the marriage. She literally mentioned 'mogul's wife' at one point, but even just the way she and gideon abstained in the limo, despite them both looking forward to it, so she wouldn't look 'less than perfect' for the event.
