  1. If another relative, like a grandparent, set up a trust fund, her parents couldn't take it away. That's one possibility.

I still think she got some rich man and powerful man to take care of her, though, and yet got "burned" by the fact he didn't marry her. So I'm thinking mistress. I don't think Monica is past breaking up a marriage. Besides, a lot of powerful men break their own first marriages on their own, looking for beautiful second (or even third) wives much younger than they are. Perhaps she thought she'd landed one, and when the guy didn't marry her, the life lesson she learned was to be very pragmatic of forcing guys to chase all the way to the altar itself. Make them work hard for it and refuse to settle for anything less than matrimony.

I agree she could have been a mistress. I could also see her just moving in with a guy out of desperation to care for her child, being filled with promises of marriage and security, then getting kicked to the curb when the guy traded her in for a care-free (and child-free) woman. She would have been young and naive enough then to have wanted to believe anything from a guy who could provide for her.

  2. I'm not sure but I think that when the police put people under surveillance that doesn't necessarily mean that they are watched 24/7.  In this case it sounds like a group of people are watched.  My guess is they spent most of their time watching the "top" guy and that is how they caught the murder.  I think the guy the bracelet was found on was a "small fish" member.

I hadn't thought of that. That makes sense. And if it was someone with police connections, they would know when he specifically was being tailed vs. others in the group.

  3. OK...here's what's been bugging me most about EIY. I'm curious if anyone else caught this too.

Nathan's bracelet ended up on a Russian mobsters wrist and they know he was killed by another mafia guy because he was under surveillance... Soooo....being under surveillance, wouldn't they know all of the dead mobsters moves that could tie him him to the bracelet? The police should have SOME type of lead as to where, when or how he got the bracelet, right? You don't have a guy under surveillance and then not have a clue what he's been up to or who he's been seen with.

Was anyone else puzzled by this?

It could be Clancy (or someone he arranged), but I also thought of Christopher. I don't know if he has the connections, but we've already seen him act pretty ruthless and he would definitely be sleazy enough to try to cash in with Gideon...and cash in BIG. And he was awfully quiet during EIY.

  4. Hi GiGi

Spousal privilege would apply. That is the easy answer for this whole mess.

Spousal privilege only applies to events and communications during a marriage...at least in the USA. Even if the two people later get married, anything before the marriage (or after a divorce) can be compelled in court.

I do really, really, really hope they get married though!

  5. Sylvia told me in a tweet during Bared To You that Corrine is a good person. I didn't like her then and I still don't. I want Corrine gone just like Eva does! LoL! Guess I'm the jealous type.

I agree. I don't like her at all either. Between that stunt outside the crossfire building and then the way she spoke to Eva outside her apartment. Regardless of who was (or wasn't) with Corinne in her apartment, she was condescending and disgustingly triumphant when she said that Gideon was spending time with her instead of Eva.

Gideon said once that Corinne was sweet and never had a bad thing to say about anyone, but she's sure shown otherwise towards Eva. I think she's just one of those women that knows how to wrap a man around her finger....and knows it.

  6. June 4th, no way...what happen to May 7th? So sad :(

Me too! This is getting so frustrating. As much as I love the snippets, I feel like I'm going to have read the whole book by the time it finally comes out. I've actually refrained from reading the last 2. It's killing me, but I want surprises when I finally get to read it, not just a bunch of strung together sections I already know.

I realize a lot of it is surely the publisher and distributor, but June will be how long? 7-8 months since the previous release?

My Gideon buzz is wearing off!

  7. Yeah, you're probably right that Lucas lost money with Gideon's dad.

All of the speculation on the abuser aside, I can't fathom what would have been Gideon's mom's motivation to pay anyone off in the first place.

Perhaps embarrassment if anyone found out? Or feeling guilty that she didn't know if she were to admit to herself that it happened? I guess we already know she was a poor excuse for a mother so no matter what the explanation, it's no excuse. There's never really much mention of his step dad. I wonder if he had something to do with it...not wanting to ruin his business with scandal or something.

  8. Now my questions. OK, is there a greater connection between Anne, Dr. Lucas wife and Gideon? We know that the Doctoral Candidate originally treating Gideon was a women so I'm thinking that person is Anne and that would explain why Dr. Lucas lied.

Hey Agordon, A lot of good questions that I'm curious to hear the answers to! One thing I think I can offer...the doctoral candidate was male. The shrink was female, but every time Gideon refers to the doctoral student he says 'he.' Plus, Gideon admitted to having an affair with Anne on their trip to NC to get back at Lucas.

I think you could be on to something though. I was wondering if it was Dr. Lucas himself that had abused Gideon. Lucas is a pediatrician, so it's not too far of a stretch to assume he was doing some type of clinical rounds in child psych as part of his training. Or, he could have been the one that examined Gideon and covered it up, too. It's not really clear yet what Dr. Lucas did, but it did cross my mind that he might be the perpetrator. He's the right age.

  9. I just stumbled on this and had to share it... Aside from the black diamonds, it looks just like I imagined Eva's ring. TIffany&Co makes a similar one for a 3 or 4K, but this one is more in my price range! Maybe I'll buy myself a belated xmas gift. lol

  10. Or what about Brett? If Nathan was approaching everyone in Eva's life, logically at some point he would have also approached Brett, no?

He probably would have, if things had drawn out long enough. But, if Brett was still breaking into the big-time and had just signed a major label, he probably didn't have too much money...yet, anyway...which is what he was approaching Stanton and Gideon for. I agree, though, he probably would have have approached Brett, if and when Brett accumulated some wealth.

  11. I just can't wrap my brain around Gideon killing Nathan, considering what kind of temper he has and the way he reacted to Brett. I don't think he could stop with just one stab to the chest but with that being said Angus did tell Eva that Gideon knew when to stop during the fight. Af any rate I do believe that Angus is somehow involved. May cant get here soon enough.

Maybe Angus drove him to and from the hotel, but I think Gideon did it. He said in the beginning of the book that he would kill for her. He's also smart enough to have gotten in and out and back to the party as fast as he could so he wouldn't be spotted anywhere but the chaos of the fire scene. Even with the cameras down where Nathan was staying, someone he knew could have seen him coming or going so he had to be careful and quick.

  12. I haven't really thought too much about how I would cast the other characters, but this is my Gideon Cross. Insanely hot, well dressed and there's something about the piercing "force of will" stare in this pic… I know Sylvia describes Gideon as having longer hair, but personally, long hair doesn't really do it for me. Someone posted this on pinterest once and it's how I've seen Gideon ever since.

(The guy in the pic is a model named Jerome Adamoli. Unless he's got some acting skills, he'd never work in a movie, but nevertheless, he's my ideal Gideon.) :)
