I don´t want to generalize this! Because this thinking used to bounce back to me/us! (What I do mean if you are thinking like this regarding the male sex like this they don´t get a chance to behave differently, you understand, what I do mean?)

 

In my opinion the problem is that talking about sex, emotions, feelings and any conflicts in this area we are all - IN GENERAL - not so really trained by the society and the school system. 

 

Woman who talks a lot about their own conflicts, issue´s of emotions, feelings and erotic themes with their best friends are automatically NOT more skilled than the male population but somehow it seems they are not so afraid to questions thing and try to change it. I do think that has a lot to do with the fact that the woman´s body changes all the time, has to make big chances to bear a child and so on. 

 

The male body doesn´t have to deal with these kind of changes, therefore - I do suppose (I can´t be certain because each person is different) - to change something is very frightful for them because if you start change something you will never know - at first - if this is better than the old system!

 

But this are assumptions ... I do think each person - doesn´t matter if woman or man - is able to open up. It depends how to approach someone. 

 

And I do think all this great success of this erotic fairy tales/ stories like EL James, Sylvia Day etc. has one deeper goal - to help the society to talk about issues/probs/discontents in this area!

I belive that there are many and diverse reasons for men's and women's different attitudes towards this genre.

On one hand, women are celebral creatures who enjoy s+x with both their minds and their bodies. Eva herself in the shower scene on RIY says, 'I wanted my body - my desire - to be burned onto his brain the way this image of him would be burned unto mine.' (page 63). On the other hand, men are visual 'animals', who first and foremost enjoy watching (think about p o r n, peep-shows and the like). Accordingly, in the same scene in the shower, Gideon asks Eva, 'Show me what I do to you.' (page 62) and not 'Tell me what you're feeling for me now.'

 

This gap between the s*xes is only worsened by our social system, which allows women to freely explore and talk about their feelings, and at the same time prevents men to do the same: a man should not cry in public or talk s*x; he must be strong at all costs ... those kinds of bulls*it!

 

No wonder then, men don't enjoy reading erotic romances, for their minds don't find anything appealing in these novels. They simply think these books are women's stuff. Poor things!!!

 

If I were a man (God forbids that!!!!!) I'd read SD's novels just to figure out what women want in and out of bed!!!

 

it goes without saying, there might be all sorts of exceptions to this broad approach, but they don't seem to affect the pattern.

After a long wait and finally being approved, i'm jumping on the bandwagon with you all

 

So here are my 2 cents on all the books:

 

1: Megumi being sick is not a coincidence ( at least in my mind ), because there were to many times it was mentioned for it to be "normal". Megumi mentions in book 2: Michael is such a great/nice guy, why does he need a blind date, is somethng wrong with him? or sometihng along those lines. This is said when Eva, Monica and Megumi were having lunch together. Something really strange is going on, and I don't know if it only concerns Megumi dumping Michael or that this Michael person is somehow connected with Nathan ( i know this is far fetched ) and trying to get to Eva through Megumi.

 

2. Nathan being killed and the Russian mob connection... also a strange one. Gideon owns a couple of casino's and in book 3 he tries to sell 1 to get a vineyard, ( from the ex hubby of Corrine the witch )maybe he is trying to ditch a connection there? Gideon doesn't seem to do business with mobsters but still... it could be an option.

 

3. Bad mom Lizzy and the ring issue... First of all, how did Gideon get that ring? Did Lizzy give it to him, did he took it , did he inherited it? We only know what that ring means to him. To a certain point i can understand that Lizzy is p*ssed off to say the least to see that ring shining on Eve's ringfinger. Especially after Eve's rant to her about the abuse, which is totally justified imho. But Lizzy is the type of person who wants to present a picture perfect family to the outside world.

 

4. Magda and Corrine and Lizzy.... Well i don't trust the whole bunch. They are all one clique whatever happens. My gut feeling is, is that Magda is trying to get info out of Eve, which she tells to her mom and mom tells it to Lizzy. And Corrine... well she is just bad

 

5. Eve<-->Brett, Gideon<--> Corrine... Eve is being naive in terms of Brett, she knows he wants more and still hangs out with him. Eventhough nothing happens, there is enough space to feed off for badtalk and gossip and making Gideon mad. Gideon on the otherhand is also being a complete dummy for his continues friendship with Corinne. He knows this upsets Eve and yet he does it.

 

6. Monica and Victor, maybe i'm alone in this one and i don't promote polygamy, but i kinda liked it. Don't ask me why, but i think that attraction and love after 24 years is still there is kinda lovely.

she has been rereading the trilogy for so long, the books are literally falling apart. She enjoys the romance, the setting of the novels,  Ana's dealing with the fact that Cristian's filthy rich (the scene when she gets her graduation present from him, a first edition of Hardy's Tess, always cracks my mum up!!) As for the s*x scenes she simply skips them now.

 

BTW: I typed Gideon instead of Christian!!!!

Did anyone else want more details on their beach wedding? Like how Gideon gave Eva the ring? Did she see it for the first time when he put it on her finger? Or after  he said 'marry me' on the chaise after pulling her from the water? I'm sure we're going to get  to read all the vows from their next wedding, but , idk...I kinda wanted more. I would have liked to read Gideon's mind before, during and after the wedding... his panic at Eva's runner and his insecuriies about Brett... his bliss at having secured Eva in his life!!

Like Gideon himself pointed out in Bared, we have spent so much time inside their minds during their hottest and most painful moments so far that this keeping us at a distance from their most precious experience doesn't seem right!!!

I want to thank you all who have answer to my questions regarding why reading the Crossfire Series ... most of you have told me how they find the books. 

 

So, I would like to dig deeper .. like what it is exactly what catch your breath, doesn´t let you put down the books, the story?

 

 

Regarding my way: 

 

I´ve saw the book (Bared to you) in our international division of a great bookshop chain. But I wasn´t immediately hooked. Then I surfed in Amazon and took a look in the first pages of BTY and the meeting of EVA and Gideon, her first one, was so loaded, so intense and so erotic for me! And I was working quite a time in high buildings like this with all this man and women very well dressed. It was at it would happened to me.

 

And I wanted to know how the story will progress...

 

That was the first reason ... the erotic tension and atmosphere ..

 

The second reason .. was that I - due to a very personal interest - wanted to know how it is possible with being traumatized and difficult past on both side of a couple to have a good and long lasting relationsship. Is there a possiblity and how would they manage ..

 

But I must say each book was very difficult to read for me - emotionally! I was tensed and afraid and almost skipped the whole thing because so many events affected me more than I thought! Well, I continued and these books are still very intensive for me and no stuff to relax. This will be possible for me when the last book is out and I´ve read everything. Then I will go back and certainly enjoy it!

 

So, that is my side ...

I didn't know how to attach my question so I am asking along with you, what made you ladies decide to read the Fifty Shades of Grey Series?

 

I didn't know that these books existed until I saw the President of the United States of America talking about the books.  It was hillarious.  I didn't know if he was talking about some kind strange political tactics or agendas.  I picked up the wrong order of the books (I didn't read them in their sequence), but I quickly discovered what the books were all about when I got a little into the book.  Imagine my surprise...

(Now that I'm looking at actors' height, I'm finding other surprises.  Scott Caan and Daniel Radcliff are only 5'5"! Prince is 5'2"! Seth Green is 5'4".  None of these is as surprising to me - well, maybe Scott Caan - as the big action movie heros who are surprisingly short, like Tom Cruise, Robert Downey, Jr., and Sylvester Stallone.  Daniel Craig is 5'10", which is not short, but he doesn't really fit the "tall, dark, and handsome" Bond stereotype, either.
