  1. Chapter 20:

Unfortunately the last chapter of my favorite book in the Crossfire series so far.

Eva blames Gideon for the mess he has made, but keeps forgetting that she is maintaining it. The fact that he killed for her, and removed her worst nightmare seems to be forgotten at the moment.

I liked that Eva told Mark that she couldn't work on the PhaseOne campaign.

Like Eva said to Cary, he should be thinking of what is best for him, and that he still can be there for the baby even if he is not together with Tat. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she's a gold digger, and that there is no baby ( at least not Carys). I don't think Cary and Tat would work out in the long run anyway.

Gideon calling Eva at night telling about his nightmare is great, it shows that he wants to change and that he is trying. I understand his protection mode. When they talked on the phone, trying to figure things out, I can feel their heartache and their longing, and it bringe me to tears. I'm thankful for the happy ending, it would have been an awful wait for OWY if they still weren't talking at the end of CBY.

Thank you Sylvia for an amazing book and series!!!

  2. chapter 19:

Finally Eva realized her position, and I think that working at Crossroads foundation is a perfect start!

Gideons decision concerning Mark might have been "on the edge", and not one of his greatest moves ;) so I can understand why she gets p**sed off feeling that he didn't include her in the discussion. But to keep running away, makes me want to pull my hair. She is good at pointing out (and she is usually right about it) what Gideon needs to work on, but her own introspection isn't always as good. Instead of facing the battles, she runs... I think that at the age of 24 you should have stopped running whenever you have a problem og get mad at someone (regardless If you have a bad temper or not).

Further I think it was a little unfair to say that Angus, Raul & Arash knows more of his life than she does. He has let her into the darkest place within him, and he's let her seen him with his guard down, crying his heart out. Besides maybe Angus, I don't think anyone had seen him like that. She knows his sacrifice and she knows what the price is.

His nightmare is horrible to read!

Hinding out at her mothers place when she usually doesn't want to spend much time with her? Doesn't she has more confidence in Gideon to respect her boundaries?

The chapter ends with a BIG breakthrough, and finally Gideon has enough trust in Dr.P to tell him about his painfull experiences. I'm proud of Gideon. I believe he would have gotten there in his own pace. I don't know If I agree that Evas way were the best one or the right one.

  3. Chapter 18

Of course the color has to be red at the wedding!!!

Monica should have her own vows renewed, so she can have another wedding the way she wants ;)

I'm sure the wedding (or the second wedding) is going to be so wonderful, loved their first one too. I can easily picture them at the beach in the Outher Banks, a place where there is ONLY good memories and with their closes friends and family. I guess Elizabeth and Chris Jr could ruin the moment with their presence.

I think it is great that Eva accepts that Victor can pay for the ceremony, it means a lot to them both.

I feel so sorry for Trey, he really must be into Cary since he is still trying and haven't left (yet?).

I'm excited to find out what Anne Lucas is up to, something is building up to OWY.

The swing scene speaks for itself ;) I LOVE it when G refers to Eva as Mrs.Cross, she is obviously one lucky girl

  4. Chapter 17

It provokes me that Elizabeth seems to be so hurtful towards Gideon, like she is the victim in their relationship. In my opinion she has no right to be.

It warms my heart everytime G is comforting E and say that he would never go back.

I get why Arnoldo is skeptical to Eva, but I don't think Corrine deserves the respect she gets from him. He can not be aware of what she is up to, what she has said and done the last few weeks (suicide attempt, threats, the book and so on) Corrine needs to know when her visiting hour is over, and get on with her life (far away from Gideva). She needs to act with a bit more dignity.

I'm curious who the "others" Gideon refers to besides Anne, Landon, Corrine & Chris Jr.

I guess Angus saw Corinne in the window, wonder if she looked like she were sad, hurt or more vindictive. Wonder if someone is pushing her to do the tell-it-all-book. First one to mind is Anne Lucas, using the book as therapy, but Chris Jr is the type to do harm wherever he can manage to do so.

Gideon and Eva sparring together would be fun, it would turn them both on, so it wouldn't last that long lol. Fact is that (perhaps with a bit more training) with her Krav Mags skills she'll able to take out a trained MMA player.

We have discussed alot whether G offering Marc a new job was okay or not. Like I've pointed out in another thread, I don't think G would hire just "anyone". He wants to alert Landon that he's paying attention. I still believe that G wants a great and qualified staff. I don't think Eva will lose her job, because there is too much at risk for Waters Field & Leaman.

It is good that Arnoldo and Gideon are back on track. I wish Arnoldo will stop defending Corinne, accept Eva, and see that Gideva is meant to be.

  5. At the end of CBY Eva told Gideon that no one of mothers relatives were invited to the wedding. They presumably cut Monica of when she got pregnant with Eva. I don't expect them to suddenly show up in Gidevas wedding. .IMO there are so many other things that needs to be cleared up in OWY, and Monicas historie probably could filled a book of it's own.

I'm as curious as you are, and hope for some answers in OWY. :)

  6. Chapter 16

I agree with Eva, Gideon is more ignoring than processing, or at least he tries to, but I guess it gets harder every day. I hope they go to couples therapy for a long time.

Cary needs a therapist in NY. I wish that he could learn be more independent, learn to trust himself more. It is nice of Eva to offer go be with him when Cary haves his talk with Trey, but it is something that he should be doing alone. Even though he is in his early twenties by age, he isn't emotionally, and someone needs to guide him and tell him what's expected of him. Eva can not be right by his side 24/7 for the rest of their lives.

Looking forward to the day when Gideva can sleep peacefully together forever â¤ï¸

  7. After EWY the title of CBY was listed on online bookstores here in Norway, and that it was expected to be published 2014. Just before summer 2014 it was announced to be released in August, and in August the date got changed frequently until Sylvia confirmed the date at her website.

I checked different bookstores today, and OWY is not even metioned.... So I think there is months of wait left

I agree with you D500, I don't get the point of a box with 4 books, when there soon will be a box of the complete series.

  8. I find Gideons jealousy a bit amusing. There can't be many men he doesn't find threatening, and it shows how little self-esteem he has (the sexiest man on the planet). In a way the jealousy must be a new, though a good feeling that he perhaps isn't very familiar with :)

Cary is acting immature telling Eva that she's not around anymore. He has a responsibility of reaching out too. A friendship is a two way street AND he also needs to learn to resolve his own problems, and take the consequence of his actions.

In time Gideon will see that opening up is tough, but helpfull, and it is a process learning to lean on others. By communicating some sentences now and then, I think he'll become more confident to talk about it, and it will come more naturally for him.

Clancy has his heart in the right place, and I understand why he is so skeptic to G and G's intention, with his reputation in mind. If only Eva knew how much her husband does for her without her knowing.

No wonder Gideon is struggeling with all the alterations that has happened over the last few weeks. His whole life and his perception of life and the people in it is changing, and it is major things. Of course he'll miss the simplicity of his old life, who wouldn't wish for a break when you're up to your neck in challenges and changes? He is clear on not wanting to go back, and that Gideva was meant to be. I'm happy that he is able to see that there is so much more out there for him than just f**kpads and long days at work.

I choose to believe that Deanna want both Eva and Gideon well. Why else would she warn G about Corinnes "tell-it-all" book? If she wanted revenge she could have helped Corinne instead. She should absolutely show more respect for Gideva and stop flirting with Gideon (but between us, who can blame her lol)

  9. If someone knows why not having your woman touch you is needed for control during s*x I'd love to know the answer).

I don't know If it is the answer, and I don't know if it has anything to do with control... The first thing that comes to my mind is that Gideon in that scene is totally out of it. I guess that the conversation with Chris Sr triggered all of his hidden away feelings. Some victims can not stand to be touched when they feel shame, nauseous, embarrassed and so on. In addition to that he is turned on, and very afraid to hurt Eva, afraid of himself and what he is capable of. So my guess is that the reason why she could not touch him in that scene, is a mix of all of this.

  10. Hi, and welcome :)

During the sexual abuse with Hugh (Annes brother), Gideon experienced to be without control, and as the abuse stopped he most likely decided to never be without control and never be a victim again. That is probably one of the reasons why he started his MMA training and why it is so important to him that he has control at all times, also during s*x.

He took girls to the f**kpad (hotel), but it doesn't say that he f**ked every girl he brought there, he might just have used all the s*xtoys. That way he would have participated, but still had total control in the situation. He didn't like to be the prey, so by being the one who dominated he took his control back.

I believe that Gideon and Anne were into SMBD. I think the main reason is because G saw Hugh in Anne, and by flogging Anne he in someway was punishing Hugh at the same time. I interpret that G could preform anal on others, but not on himself. I think SMBD was Ann&Gideons "thing", and that he was at his "darkest"when he was with her.

If I'm not totally wrong, he said to Eva that he didn't have much experience with the swing?!?

About the numbers of partners, it can be a question of definition. He can have been with hundreds of women, but it isn't certainly that he sc**wed them besides with the toys.

I choose to believe at he is not lying to Eva, and maybe we'll get a better understanding about him and his past in the final book.

BTW you don't have to be into SMBD to know about handcuffs, safewords or a swing :)

  11. ".Don't really understand why Eva needs him in control, and why Gideon needs to be in control when he is with her. Guessing that he didn't have control in his abuse years, so he demands it now.

Yes I think you are right. I think he needs control with Eva because he knows he can get very rough, and I think he is afraid that by losing control he can physically and mentally hurt her. Gideon is Eva rock, and therefore she needs him in control. She has never experienced him without control, so it might scare her. Gideon mentioned in one of his POVs that when he is calm, Eva is calm too and When he is stressed out, so is she.

  12. Chapter 14:

Heavy reading. I pictured it so well, that I almost felt that I was right there witnessing it (Sylvia with her magical pen). I can easily feel the pain, desperation and the intensity in their relationship.

First of all, Chris Sr (again), it is amazing how he's now stepping up. Calling Eva, doing what he can. He is not the one to blame for not being there earlier. I wish that he and Gideon can have a good relationship in the future, and maybe Chris Sr still can be a father figure for G (and a grandparent when that time comes).

Eva hit a nerve at Gideon when she confirmed how hard it is when someone believe your story. He needed to hear it, but maybe not capable to handle it. It must have been so difficult for him to feel so chaotic, so out of control, and being so afraid of himself. A part of him probably doesn't want to handle it with s*x, but doesn't know any other way. It must been hard for him admitting that he felt shattered. At the end the experience had to be good. After all he managed to gain control with Eva. He now knows that he can cope with the situation, and Eva can help him if he'll let her. As Eva thought, he can not kick her out of the appartment when it is their home.

I loved the ending scene the next morning, when she realized his eternal and devoted love for her, and that he had been with her all night. Taking the day off did them both good, they needed their healing time.

I'm glad that she acknowleged what her mother had done for her after Nathan, and maybe she can tell her that one day.

Finally I liked the pen and it's symbolism, and Angus .. He is just simply the best!!

  13. I doubt she knows about Hugh's abuse of Gideon (I feel she would have brought that up in her chat to him and he only refers to his relationship with her having annoyed her husband) so I don't think she would be aware Hugh committed suicide some time after Gideon confronted him about the abuse.Of course it may be that we are reading more into some of the lines in the book than Sylvia intended so we may not get answers to some of our queries :(

Hmmm, I just mentioned that as a theory in the chapter discussion.... I find Anne unpredictable and disturbed, and would not be surprised if she tried to take revenge of her brothers suicide. If G (who is less disturbed) could exploit Anne to get to her husband and partially punish Hugh by using Anne, why couldn't she do the opposite? Their se*ual relationship was based on SMBD, or have I misunderstood something? In that way G could have punished Hugh by using Anne, since he saw Hugh in her?!?

  14. Chapter 13

What a day in poor Gideons life, almost every ghost of his appears in one day..it would have been too much to handle for the most of us.

I agree with you jmhope, it was a real nice reply of Chris Sr that he should have said more often how a great man G is.

Evas capabilities to soothe Gideon is wonderful too.

What is left to say about Anne Lucas... LOVE that Gideon doesn't feel threatened by her, and just go barging in at her office. "Break the toys, then throw them away" she said. Is that because she has observed G way with women? Or has she been talking with them (like Corinne)? He hardly told her himself... By challenging her, he clearly turns her on, and perhaps that is how their relationship was. The fact that she is convinced that she could have him again, and calls him lover, makes me sick. I truly believe that she is decoying him, by showing herself to Eva.

The part when she wants him to pay... Pay for what? Him leaving her? Or... What If Anne knew about the accusations agains her brother? What If Anne and Hugh were close and he told her what G had claimed? He certainly could have denied it to Anne and held on to his innocence, but Anne could believe that the accusations drove Hugh to suicide. What if Anne wanted to take revenge the same way Gideon wanted?? It must have frustrated her BIGtime that he seemed just as laidback no matter what she threw at him. Hope that both she and her career flushes down the drain.

Dr. P, what a therapist! I'm glad that G at the end understands that Dr P is an investment, instead of a waste of time. When Dr. P takes G for a walk, rather than standard "face2face" talk was a great tactic. Walking beside him makes him less intimidating and perhaps less dominating to Gideon, and I believe that that is one of the things G struggles with the most. Majority of us are more comfortably with strangers beside us than in front or behind us. Further on he is great with building confidence with his defensive patient. :)

I haven't been too crazy about Chris Sr, but now I'm becoming quite fond of him. He has confronted (and left!) his wife and smashed Dr. Lucas, and still tries to look G in the eyes telling him how sorry he is, the love he has for him, and that he will never expect Gideons forgiveness.... It takes a great man to do that. When Gideon breaks apart at the end of the chapter it brought tears to my eyes.

  15. Hi MicheleWV

D500 answered you in another thread , so I just copyed the answer for you.

I have something bothering me and don't have time this moment to go back and see if it was addressed here.  Help me out please.  Angus asks Eva if Chris believed Gideon.  Angus knew?  I thought only Eva figured out he was abused.

Question because as many times as I've read the books... Angus asked Eva if Chris believed Gideon. He knew all along?

Gideon always thought Chris Snr knew that Gideon had been abused as Gideon had overheard a conversation between his mother and Chris at dinner when Gideon lived at home. But as it turns out from the scenes in CBY, Chris did not know about Gideon's abuse so whatever Gideon overheard was not about himself. Angus must know about the abuse and probably had something to do with helping Gideon escape from it, hopefully we learn more about this in the last book.

For Gideon it cannot have been easy to realise that he turned to the wrong parent to rescue him from the abuse. Most children would turn to their mothers, and as Chris is Gideon's step-father it would probably never have occurred to Gideon to approach Chris about what was happening to him, after all you expect your natural parent to listen to you and believe you - for Gideon this was all made worse because those who were asked to check him out chose to lie and say there was no evidence of abuse - there must have been. It also probably did not help Gideon that he had anger problems, and still has. In CBY after he had seen Eva arrive to meet Brett (in San Diego, prior to the hotel room scene) his thoughts are "I was still tense and aggravated, spoiling for a fight."

  16. Daring to make a comment on chapter 12 ;)

The drawback in this chapter is Brett Kline. The fact that he believed that Eva in someway needed or even wanted to see that tape, shows how how little he really knows her. He can not know about the abuse (If he does knows something about that, he certainly is an idiot)

Really liked that Megumi is finding her way back!

Eva makes a good observation of Gideon when she points out that G lets his instincs take over when he finds himself in situations he has little experience in. I believe that it is quite naturally response. All humans has a flight-fight-freeze response when we find ourselves in very difficult situations, and we act on our instincs (we fight-we freeze or we hide/ flight).

Eva realizing her position in the PhaseOne campaign, hope that she will become less stubborn in OWY (or perhaps the correct word is more mature). She should have informed Gideon about that campaign at that point.

Favorite part in the chapter is of course when Gideon is standing by ready to rescue Eva at the park!

  17. Totally agree with this Ann; I would love to read about that chapter of their life but it's just too soon... Maybe when Gideon is 30 to 32 yo and Eva will be 26 to 28 yo the perfect age... I agree with you that they should enjoy each other with nothing to distract them like the petty jealousies of others...I envision them with their 2 young children at the beach house and after they put the kids to bed Gideon has his way with Eva on the deck...LOL!!

    Lol in true Gideva style

  18. I wish Gideon & Eva would have their own family one day, and I think it would do G good. First of all they will have to stabilize their relationship, enjoy eachother (ideally for a few years), and last but not least they both have a lot to work out (especially Gideon) with Dr.P before they are ready to take care of a child. If Eva gets pregnant, I think they will handle it, but I wish they would enjoy eachother for a while first.
