 Eva's Google research indicated the Lucas' marital status as married. It's possible that since changed, but since Eva's whole reason at that time (the morning after the fundraiser dinner fiasco) was to check out Terry's wife (brunette paranoia) it might be possible that the Lucases have since divorced. Because the picture Eva checked out obviously was outdated -- Anne had a short hair style in it, but Anne's hair was longer when Eva saw her in the flesh at the very end of Entwined.  I do find it very odd that the Lucases apparently don't attend functions together. The night of the Fundraiser Fiasco, Terry obviously was stag. Meanwhile, it would appear Anne was stag at the dinner at the very end of Entwined.  It would make sense that if Terry "lost" Anne because of Gideon, he'd be even more bitter. C'mon -- after a woman has had Gideon Cross, is she gonna go back to Terry? The point at which Gideon got his revenge by "breaking" Anne was dumping her as soon as she announced she was going to leave Terry for Gideon.

 Methinks that Lizzie did the exact same thing she tried right away with Eva -- to latch onto Eva as a means to get GidEva as a couple to come to family dinners and such. Had Lizzie had any degree of success in establishing a rapport with Eva, I'm sure Lizzie probably would start inviting Monica to join her (Lizzie's) clique of Ladies Who Lunch.  I can see the same dynamic tried, with a higher degree of success, with Corrine.  I actually wonder whether Gideon started spending holidays with Corrine's family as a means to avoid spending holidays with his. "Oh sorry, Mother, but Corrine and I are eating Thanksgiving dinner with her family .... Nope, can't come over for Christmas Eve, Mother, because I promised Corrine's family that I would ....."

 The Vidals and the Perezes (Magdalene's family) almost certainly are in the exact same social class -- very rich and what would be termed "high society" -- people who are almost minor celebrities because they get seen at public functions for the rich where they rub elbows with the truly rich celebrities (like Gideon.) In this social class, women generally restrict their close friendships to peers. "Ladies Who Lunch" is a term to describe high society women who hang out together.  It's implied that Corrine comes from the same social class as Gideon and Magdalene. But my guess is the families didn't get to know one another on a personal level before Corrine and Gideon started dating. Upon them getting engaged, the families almost certainly would have gotten close, because they would both be involved in the planning of the wedding, especially the mothers.  Gideon comes across as someone who probably was a loner starting when he was a kid, getting bullied by other kids, their parents, and even some teachers -- all because he was Geoffrey Cross' son. Corrine's stalker tendencies, it would appear, started in her own teens -- once she saw a "boy" she wanted, she hunted him down. Poor 18-year-old Gideon.  Magdalene probably knew Gideon from when he was younger than 18. I wonder when it was she developed her unrequited crush on the guy. Certainly, she ended up on the sidelines when Gideon got his first real girlfriend, Corrine. And I wonder how soon it was after Corrine vanished that Magdalene moved in, determined to fill the void. I'd like to think Magdalene liked Gideon years before he became so insanely rich.

 In the United States, a physician receives his/her license to practice medicine on a state government level, instead of from the U.S. Federal Government. For example, Anne and Terry's medical licenses are from the State of New York.  While some things are universal in all 50 states, individual states fine-tune some of their own regulations and procedures -- including the handling of name changes. Some states forbid a doctor from changing the name on his/her medical license. Therefore, women who receive their medical license under a particular name have to keep that name on their license even if their last name later changes through marriage and/or divorce. Other states do allow it (and New York is one of them) -- however, because some states are so strict about keeping doctors' names consistent throughout their medical careers, more often than not, female physicians continue to practice under whatever name they used when they first became full-fledged doctors. It doesn't stop them from using another name for other legal purposes (passports, drivers licenses, etc.)  Anne and Terry have been married 20 years. If she's in her mid-40s like he is, she already would have been married before finishing medical school in her late 20s. My educated guess is that when she first obtained her medical license and became a full-fledged physician, her last name was Lucas. More likely than not, she'd stay Dr. Lucas even if Terry eventually divorced her cheating  b u t t -- however, in New York, she technically could change to Dr. (something else).  ::: snark alert ::: Honey, it ain't EVAH gonna be Dr. Anne Cross

 Ah, well, Microsoft gives us a couple of cool ways to copy and paste. I'm personally a fan of advanced use of the mouse to pull up little shortcut menus, but here is the Copy-Paste 101 Method  1. In the Word document, use the menu bar to select "select all" -- that'll highlight your entire text. 2. In the Word document, use the menu bar to select "copy" 3. Go into a Reply to this topic box here and click in box to get your cursor positioned, just like you'd do to start hand-typing something here. 4. There are two Word-like menu bars at the top of the text. The one you want is on the top bar, far right side, the second to last icon. It looks like a little clipboard and it has the "W" letter on it. That button is "Paste from Word" 5. Click it and that should work.  If your security software doesn't let that direct paste work, it'll pull up a "Paste" box for you to do it old school with your keyboard - holding down the "Ctrl" button at the same time as hitting the letter V on the keyboard.  If this doesn't work, we'll come up with a plan B -- I'm dying to see those charts.

 Hi Andie,  The thread entitled One Chapter A Day - Re-Read of Bared and Entwined (the latter was a typo, should have said Reflected) thread has the daily summaries, one per day - detailed timelines, key plot developments, new characters .... and my own more detailed thoughts on the content of each chapter. Most days, the daily summary "Readers Guide" was posted sometime before 6 a.m. U.S. Eastern time zone, though there were some days I was late.  I'm going to get around to a project soon of creating a master running timeline from the start of Bared to the end of Entwined, once I can sketch out the master timeline for the two weeks of Entwined.

Julie, you're right about Dr. Anne Lucas being a psychiatrist, not a pediatrician (like her husband.) Page 353 - Gideon told Eva that Anne specifically is a psychiatrist. And earlier in the story (page 223-24) Gideon said everyone in Anne's family (including her brother Hugh, the pedophile) " .... is in the mental health field. The whole f****-up lot of them."  Sounds likely Anne/Hugh family members would share a private medical practice business, pretty common in the U.S. when close family members go into a a particular specialty, be it medical (therapists, surgeons), legal (criminal, tax law), financial (investing, real estate). Look no further than Martin Stanton working for his uncle, Richard Stanton, as an example of a skilled professional family business.  Though from something else Gideon said on page 223, it would appear Hugh didn't actually start practicing after he completed his Ph.D. Perhaps Terry threatened him privately -- fearing that Hugh like many pedophiles would go on to victimize other children and eventually get caught, something that would risk Terry's own medical career by affirming the Cross child had been telling the truth after all. Plus if Hugh got caught, Anne was going to find out. And the scandal could have destroyed any Anne-Hugh family business.  When Gideon got old enough, he threatened Hugh with legal h e l l if Hugh ever dared to go into mental health practice and/or victimized another child.Â

 My theory, Sheens, is that things started with Hugh mentally/emotionally manipulating the child into hand jobs ... BUT THEN ... the coast became clear for Hugh to escalate to forcible anal penetration after his brother-in-law, Terry Lucas, convinced Gideon's mother that the "abuse" was simply some figment of the messed-up kid's imagination.  What if the real way Elizabeth failed her son was far worse than her failing to believe him. What if she had allowed Hugh to continue to have access to him -- the severity (and possibly frequency) of the abuse skyrocketed, and Gideon truly was helpless at that point, because no one believed him -- not his family, not pediatricians, no one.

 Explains the sudden desperate stunts in New York somewhere in the neighborhood of week 6-7. And how frantic she became by the time she reached the fourth month.  By month four, no longer would she be able to pass of the pregnancy as early for however many weeks it would take to rush through her already-in-progress divorce proceedings in France and then actually spring the trap on Gideon by getting him to go through with saying "I do." Soon, she was going to start showing - hard enough for a slender woman to disguise clothed and even harder to disguise nude.  Also, when she entered month four, she'd waited too long to get easy access to abortion. Finding a hospital or clinic willing to terminate a pregnancy past the first trimester is very hard in the United States, where hospitals and clinics are run by the private sector, not through a national government health system. If she was going to go the "I miscarried" route, she needed to set herself a deadline of under 12 weeks for bailing out of the scheme.  Because if it was true she knew about the baby, I don't think she had any intention of keeping JFG's child. She only needed the pregnancy long enough to convince Gideon she actually was impregnated. Once she actually became Mrs. Cross and was safe-guarded from being summarily dumped, she could get rid of the baby.

 On we go with our deep-dive into one chapter per day. How it works:  We're trying to avoid mentioning anything that happens beyond today's chapter. The idea behind sticking to just the chapter -- plus anything coming before it -- is that fans still reading the novel can start talking about early chapters without coming across stuff from later in the book they haven't read for themselves yet, stuff that might spoil surprises of what's to come - "spoilers". Pick a favorite quote or paragraph -- oh h e c k pick plenty: it's so hard to choose sometimes. Sylvia started the pick a quote (or paragraph) system when she started the group effort to re-read one chapter per day of Bared to You and Reflected in You. Have fun!!! (That's the real easy part!)

Well Gideon doesn't know the definition of break-up either. Â Sends his brand-new girlfriend a Dear Jane note via interoffice envelope and doesn't call her for four days, but still thinks they never "broke up" and he was just waiting for her to come back. Um gee, Gideon, we know women chase you, stalk you -- so you just naturally assume it's never over. Took you four days to figure out Eva thought it most certainly was over forever. Â Distances the love of his life by being cold and cruel to her, starts very publicly dating his former fiancee, gets an agonizing phone call for now ex-girlfriend, doesn't contact her in any way for 8 days after being called a coward and a cheater (OK, so he couldn't call or see her, but that's beside the point) but firmly believes it's not over? Um, Gideon .... she was already moving on. It took a bad weekend of wake-up calls (from her ex-boyfriend giving an interview to her getting a sexy make over) for you to figure out she likely wasn't going to be single much longer.Â

 Gideon was around age 10-11 when it started, because there's an age spread of around 5-6 years between him and Christopher. We don't yet know how/when the abuse stopped -- a question I hoped was going to be answered in Entwined, but, Gideon is still working through issues, so it may be Book 4 or 5 that has the answers.  Terry Lucas is 45 years old and he and Anne have been married 20 years. Educated guess is that she's a 40-something as well. Gideon was rich enough by age 20 to afford a bodyguard/driver (Angus) and he's 28 years old now. The story doesn't say when the affair happened, but the impression given was that it was sometime in recent years (Anne chasing him at social events).

 Gideon really has some weird concepts of what constitutes sexual activity  He took women to the f*** pad on average twice a week, but as long as he stuck to using toys on them instead of using his "tool" it didn't count as sex. Um, Gideon -- all those women counted. He admitted to bleeding off his libido by stroking off in the shower each morning, but that doesn't count as mast******? So what exactly did count as the M-word?  I think I can understand his odd standard regarding # 2 as having to do with his deep trauma issues. Not to say the guy's name yet -- because we're only on chapter 5 and his identify comes up later .... but from what Gideon had told Eva during their car-ride talk the day before Reflected ended, the abuser used mast******* as his opening gambit for manipulating Gideon, telling the kid hormones were to blame for the anger, and mast****** would fix the problem. Then he convinced Gideon that he was doing it "wrong" and so the abuser showed him the "right" way. It's how the hand jobs started.  I wonder whether #1 also has to do with the trauma issues. Gideon's abuser, he explained in Reflected, forced him to come every single time, the guy's way of manipulating his child victim into thinking he (Gideon) "wanted" it. So perhaps Gideon, when he began engaging in consensual activity as an adult, decided that if he didn't "come" with the woman, the encounter didn't count as sex.  What I loved about the love Gideon and Eva made in this chapter is that Eva set a role-playing situation that gave Gideon the experience of what an ordinary young guy would have: new woman he's seeing, has her over to his place for the first time, wondering whether it's the night they'll have sex for the first time -- how far will he get to go that first time (i.e. is he going to get really lucky by getting laid, or will they stick to kissing/petting that first time.) It's the sort of thing Gideon ought to have experienced, had life not damaged his sexual psyche and had he not ended up some hot celebrity billionaire who had women throwing themselves at him.Â

 Chris Vidal hired Angus sometime when Gideon was young. We learned a little of the background in Bared to You the first time Eva struck up a conversation with Angus. He said he's worked for Gideon for 8 years (which means Gideon was only 20 years old when he had gotten rich enough to afford to hire Angus). Angus further explained that he knew Gideon even before then, because he drove Gideon to school when Gideon was young and he (Angus) worked for Vidal Sr.  Sylvia mentioned recently that Corrine's family knew the Vidals, which makes sense, given that at one point Corrine and Gideon were engaged to be married. The engagement didn't end bitterly (not on the surface anyway). Obviously, the families move in the same social circles too. I image they stayed in friendly contact over the years and recently resumed close contact when they all were led to believe Corrine and Gideon were reunited.  You remembered right - Gideon was 5 when Geoffrey killed himself. At the time it happened, I doubt Gideon knew much beyond the fact that home life had changed from something happy to daily screaming arguments and his mother crying. But as he got older, Gideon got bullied, not just by kids at school but also some of the parents and even teachers. He was made all too aware of the shame connected with the Cross name. It appears his anger problem as a kid might have started with him getting picked on.

  Are we going to have some sort of celebrity date auction?  Or are we going to have some sort of Krav Maga smackdown -- last woman standing gets a night with Gideon?

 That's true, Nrock -- the Stantons have a stronger motive. Richard Stanton paid a lot of money to bury the Nathan secret very deep, because Monica was terrified about the truth ever getting out. It's conceivable Stanton would shell out even more money -- for a hitman.

Actually, one other possibility exists -- what if Corrine sought treatment from Dr. Anne Lucas, who ordered a routine pregnancy test before putting Corrine on an anti-depressant? The lab test came back positive, taking Lucas by surprise, aware that Corrine did not suspect she was pregnant. What if the Not So Good Doctor deliberately kept the real test result from Corrine, telling Corrine she most definitely wasn't pregnant, and explaining way the absence of periods as stress and medication side effect. Â Perhaps the Not So Good Doctor was counting on Gideon f***** Corrine -- and oh the pain that could have come had Corrine killed herself bearing a child he would have believed was his.

 I'm really on the fence as to whether or not she knew she was pregnant.  The main argument for her being unaware: not only was she taking medication, but she was drinking as well (definitely the night Nathan died, when she was photographed with a drink in her hand, and presumably champagne at that fundraiser the night she met Eva.  What's got me suspicious she might have known: based on some math I did, she could have been 4-5 weeks along when she called up Gideon in crisis, ready to flee France for New York. She could have suspected by then she might be; she'll have missed her second period in a row. But when she found out Gideon had just become serious about a new woman, Eva, she chickened out on coming back to New York then and there. It took her a week and a half to work up the courage. By then, we're talking 6-7 weeks along, definitely ought to have a diagnosis by then. And look how desperate and dirty she played right away. If she did know, I think her goal was to seduce Gideon immediately, then try to pass the baby off as his, counting on him to help speed her divorce along and marry her as soon as possible so "their" child would be born in wedlock. He might have later figured out the baby wasn't his, but she probably counted on him staying with her anyway instead of turning her out to raise the baby as a single mother.  So I guess a huge question for Sylvia is this: was Corrine totally clueless she was pregnant -- or -- did she rush back to New York hoping to trap Gideon by making him believe he impregnated her?

 Gideon thinks that Terry feels for Anne what Gideon feels for Eva. So in love he'd do almost anything to protect her.  Anne obviously doesn't feel the same. At the very least, she's a cheating s l u t. And it would appear she might be an evil witch.

 The "not yet" could refer to a quite common "career path" for top notch police and elite military - they join organizations young, put in the minimum number of years to be eligible for full retirement (usually by the time they reach their 40s) retire with a full government pension and even MORE important, government retiree benefits like healthcare. THEN they take lucrative jobs in the private sector, so they can earn top dollar even while collecting the pension they earned. Two incomes.

  Clancy may have done it to protect the Stantons plus himself from any possible blowback. Because if Gideon were charged, it's conceivable the Stantons and Clancy could end up accused of conspiracy or being accessories themselves. In framing the dead gangster, Clancy is protecting them all.  Before Gideon went rogue and decided to kill Nathan, some sort of cooperation had been going on between him and the Stantons, and Clancy had been tailing Nathan. We know of at least one instance where Gideon went to Stanton's office to talk with him (the day after Eva first told Gideon about Nathan). We also know, from something Monica said to Eva in Reflected, that police seized a copy of some office building videotape from Stanton's office.

 Almost forgot, the part about him having never heard her like that before ....  I'll bet he never heard her desperate and weeping before. The Corrine we first met came across as calm and sweet in person -- even Eva had to admit there was something calming about Corrine. Of course, we could also see Corrine was a catty two-faced b****.  The Corrine on the phone that morning by then had probably figured out Gideon had slipped through her fingers again -- and worse, was probably involved with Eva again. Corrine lived right around the corner from his apartment building. I can see her stalking the building -- stalking it and discovering Gideon wasn't coming home nights anymore.  Who knows, maybe she even staked out Eva's apartment building to try to confirm suspicions he was quietly seeing Eva again. Even with his baseball cap and sweats "ordinary hot guy" disguise that would fool strangers wouldn't fool Corrine, who would know his walk, know his build -- just know it was him.  One more possibility -- as soon as Gideon kicked Corrine to the curve, she might have called Dr. Anne in crisis, and Dr. Anne could have jumped at the chance to up Corrine's doses. I wonder whether the Not So Good Doctor was waiting for just such an opportunity -- knowing that sooner or later, Gideon was going to turn from Dr. Jeckyll to Mr. Hide and the instant it happened, time to pounce on the pharmacology.

 It's possible she took the "I can't live without you .... you're the only thing I live for .... yadda, yadda, yadda" card, but I pray that's not true, because if it were, Gideon's guilt would be much worse. He'd beat himself up for ignoring early warnings of suicidal behavior.  But somehow, I think that if it was true Corrine was playing the suicide-card tack, he'd have said something when he had his head craddled in Eva's lap, something along the lines of "Corrine threatened to do it, but I never believed she meant it."  On the phone, he was trying to be kind to Corrine right on up to her saying something that triggered him to turn cold on her. We later learned Corrine was bugging Christopher Jr. when desperately trying to chase Gideon down, and that Lizzie appeared to have become Captain of Team Corrine.  And Gideon's family is a major trigger to him -- even with Eva still, he has to resist shutting down the topic entirely.  So my gut is telling me Corrine started playing the "family card" totally clueless that any such efforts would backfire badly. It's the thing I can think of most likely to p i s s Gideon off immediately - Mommy Lizzie.
