  1. Â Ruh roh. You live dangerously! Â Well it's well known now there's huge anti-Corrine sentiment in the fan base, with a big percentage of fan hating that character. So maybe someone at Penguin has got the bright idea of seeing how much an anti-Brett sentiment can be whipped up as well. Brett too is unpopular among many fans. He's not as widely disliked as Corrine, but he's up there too. Feeding some flames during the final days prior to Entwined's release?
  2. I highly recommend any of the many fine hotel and resort properties owned by Cross Industries. Â Seriously, though, I've never personally stayed in any New York City hotel, so I'm not the one to ask.Â
  3. Â In the end, though, it will be good for Gideon to go through the pain of dealing with the Brett insecurities. Because by her actions, Eva will prove she's not going to go back to Brett. The only way Gideon is going to learn how to trust Eva is to be put into a position where he's forced to do so. Â During their North Carolina weekend, Gideon told Eva that in a way, him seeing her kissing Brett had been a good thing -- good in that it finally opened up his eyes to just how much pain she'd been in and how much of a threat to the stability of their relationship the whole Corrine insecurity/jealousy problem actually was. Before that point, Gideon had underestimated the whole crisis - he simply thought Eva just wasn't handling things well.
  4. Â I'm buying a traditional book copy at my neighborhood indie bookstore, because I love books, I love bookstores -- and in the case of favorite books, I like to keep them in my bookcase, where the sight of them makes me warm and fuzzy. Â I am also buying the Kindle version so that I can carry it -- and other favorite books -- around in my virtual bookcase. So no matter where I am, if I'm in the mood to re-read parts of a favorite book, it's right there. Â I'm also getting the audiobook, also from Amazon (its audible.com site) via MP3 download. I can play the audiobook on my Kindle, my iPod and/or my computer. Â So Penguin (and Amazon) are getting a chunk of business from me next week. All I ask in return is those companies go out of their way to make Sylvia happy
  5. In the re-read a chapter a day project, especially Reflected chapters 7 (day before yesterday) and chapter 9 (today) I've picked up on new things that make me see Cary As Possible Captain Of Team Brett in a whole new light -- and not in a negative one, either, for Cary. Cary may think he's trying to do what's best for Eva -- because Cary has concluded Gideon is very bad for Eva's emotional recovery in life, and because Cary mistakenly thinks Brett is the solution to Eva's broken heart.  Timeline: Early Tuesday morning: Gideon telephoned Cary to check on Eva. Sometime in the wee hours of the morning, Gideon had attacked Eva in his sleep for the second time. Cary saw the first incident, because Eva's screaming woke him up. He slept through the second. When Cary found Eva, he could see she was in a rough place. Already uneasy about the first attack, the second attack made Cary tell Eva point blank to break up with Gideon. Sometime Tuesday morning: Gideon had spoken to Cary a total of three times (we learn from Eva) but we don't know what they said. Because Gideon wouldn't dare talk to Eva himself -- he texted her instead. Tuesday evening: All day via text, Eva had tried to get Gideon to agree to see her Tuesday night, but Gideon wouldn't agree. But after his therapy appointment with Dr. Petersen, Gideon decided to go straight to Eva. She wasn't home when he showed up, but Cary was -- and Cary told Gideon to go to h*** . Also Tuesday evening: Eva had actually been waiting for Gideon at his own apartment while Gideon had gone looking for him. She and Cary spoke briefly on the phone, and again Cary advocated ending the relationship -- and suggested Eva contact her old therapist. Gideon took the phone out of Eva's hand, said "Good-bye Cary," and ended the call. Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday night: Eva stayed over at Gideon's and the pair of them worked on her decision to fight for the relationship and his decision to stay in it. Friday lunchtime: for the first time since Tuesday, Cary saw Eva as the two of them went out to lunch. That's when Cary found out Eva (and Gideon) were seeing Brett's band, Six Ninths, that night -- and also figured out Eva had no clue (because the band had changed its name) Eva knew it was Brett's band. Cary avoided telling Eva this -- but -- Cary brought up the subject of Brett, asking Eva whether she ever thought about Brett and telling Eva he thought Brett was a decent guy.  At that Friday lunch, Cary did not go near the subject of Eva still being together with Gideon - instead they talked about Cary's ongoing problems with Trey. But I see now that Cary "neglecting" to warn Eva about Brett's band appeared to have been more than mischief. It was Cary hoping that Brett might turn out to be a solution to Eva's ongoing problems with Gideon.  Fast forward to where things went from there to the opening of Entwined: Cary found out about Gideon going postal over Eva kissing Brett From his hospital bed and later from home, Cary watched Eva come apart that week over Gideon taking Corrine out again. Cary saw with his own eyes how Gideon behaved Friday night at the family dinner Eva hosted. After Eva finally did dump Gideon, on Saturday, Cary nursed her through more than a week of her going through the motions of life, a week in which Gideon stayed completely away from Eva. Cary saw the first signs of her coming back to life one week after the break-up. Then Gideon contacted Eva to give her back her promise ring. Eva came home from work that evening feeling more confused than ever. That's when Cary told Eva he'd read about an interview Brett gave the day before, about Brett wanting Eva back. "So you've got your rebound man lined up if Cross doesn't get his s*** together," Cary said.  Looking at this from Cary's possible point of view, I can perceive this, how he might want to push Brett thinking he was doing the right thing for Eva (and keep in mind that Cary's not exactly the picture of functional when it comes to relationships): Cross won't get his s*** together -- he'll just go through the lather-rinse-repeat cycle of hurting her all over again. Eva started healing after she dumped Cross and he left her alone. Now he's bugging her again. He doesn't want her -- but he doesn't want anyone else (like Brett) having her either. Brett definitely wants Eva back. He's a nice guy -- but for the sleeping around part, but who am I to fault him there. I think Eva does want Brett, even if she won't admit it to herself. I'd rather see her with Brett than back with Cross any day.
  6. A Chapter A Day Re-Read Project - Today is Chapter 9 of Reflected in You  This chapter unfolds Friday (day 25)  Key plot developments In one of the pivotal chapters in the series thus far, Eva unexpectedly came across her ex-boyfriend, Brett, seeing him for the first time in four years. Their talking led to kissing - and in the cliffhanger ending to the chapter, Gideon caught them together. When Eva had known Brett in San Diego, he was the lead singer of an indie band. Unknown to her -- until she walked into a concert with Gideon and two friends -- Brett's band had changed its name, and had recently become famous. Earlier in the day, Eva went out to lunch with Cary, their first chance to talk in a couple of days, and they discuss Cary's romantic troubles.  After each of us has read Chapter 9, Sylvia would like to know what each of us liked best - either a quote or a paragraph.
  7. Chapter 8 of Reflected in You - The Readers Guide  This chapter starts Wednesday morning (day 23) and goes through Thursday evening (day 24)  Key plot developments Thursday evening, Eva and Gideon had their second couples therapy session with Dr. Petersen. They discuss Gideon having attacked Eva in his sleep on Monday night -- and talk about how she's determined to make the relationship work. Wednesday, he and Eva also discussed how much they want to make the relationship work. They talk over some important things then and there. Gideon announced he plans to take her away the upcoming weekend so they can talk even more.  New characters: Doug, Shawna's boyfriend, mentioned in passing (minor)  A couple of drama free days Tuesday night, Gideon and Eva had decided together they were going to fight for the relationship rather than letting their issues drive them apart (his violent nightmares, her tendencies to run away instead of talk things over when she's upset.) Wednesday and Thursday, covered in this chapter, go well, with them spending their free time at Gideon's place, though Eva now sleeping in her own room there instead of Gideon's bed, per mutual agreement for now. One of their more important open discussions came Wednesday night, when Gideon admitted he hadn't been allowing Eva to decide for herself she wants to be with him -- and that he's been too cautious about their relationship because of her trauma past, which scares him. Gideon also said he believes she's unhappy because she's been holding herself back. Gideon told her, " .... neither of us is typical. And that's OK. Turn off that voice in your head that's screwing you up. Trust me to know what you need, even when you think I'm wrong. And I'll trust your decision to be with me despite my faults." (page 139) In turn, Eva admitted she's afraid she'll lose herself in him -- lose the healthy part of her she worked so hard to get back. Gideon vowed he'll never let that happen. "What I want is for us both to feel safe. What you and I have together shouldn't be draining us like this. It should be the one rock-solid thing we both count on." (page 140) Thursday, the two of them had their second couples therapy session with Dr. Petersen, which went much better than the first (when the pair of them had fought about Corrine's sudden appearance in their lives.) Tuesday night, Gideon had met with the psychologist individually, and they talked about the latest violent nightmare attack on Eva. Thursday, Eva got her chance to discuss the incident -- and discuss her own rape nightmares. They'd been at bay for at least two years until the recent stress triggered them again. To their relief, but especially Eva's, Dr. Petersen assures them they can work out. "You and Gideon have a lot to work through, but it's certainly not insurmountable." (page 141)  Weekend plans Gideon announced he plans to take Eva away for the weekend so they can be alone together, talk some more -- and have plenty of intercourse too, something that'd been on hold that week because of her period. They also made plans for Friday night, having no way of knowing it would turn into one of the worst major-drama nights of their relationship, perhaps even worse than the night Eva met Corrine. Her friend Shawna had four tickets to a rock concert that night. Eva had already agreed to go -- and Gideon invited himself along too, though annoying Eva with his over-protectiveness. Shawna's boyfriend, Doug, is out of the country for the summer, so per Eva's request, Gideon agreed to find one of his friends to come along too. (Eva avoids introducing female friends to Cary, lest his tendency to sexually complicate things cause trouble.) Eva had never heard of the band Shawna is enthusiastic about, Six-Ninths, which recently has become famous. But Gideon has heard about Six-Ninths -- the band recently signed with Vidal Records. It would turn out Eva would know the band all too well -- though she knew it under a different name four years ago.
  8. Though it's becoming apparent Brett is going to be an important part of Entwined, I think this doesn't mean he has to appear in a lot of scenes with Eva -- in other words, Brett having (or trying to have) frequent contact with Eva. I think it's the idea of Brett inside Gideon's head that's going to be major, just like the idea of Corrine in Eva's head was major in Reflected.  I think it's possible Brett is going to "rent space" in Gideon's head. A lot of it. And thus when Gideon and Eva are alone together, they'll be dealing with (among other things) Gideon's insecurities -- hopefully dealing with them positively by communicating.  In his own way, Gideon now is every bit as much freaked out over Brett as Eva used to be over Corrine. Maybe Gideon is even more freaked out. Because actually, Gideon has more reason to be. Why?  Gideon never had been hot for Corrine, not all those years ago and most certainly not now.  BUT ....  Eva definitely had been seriously hot for Brett years ago, and a part of her most certainly is still hot for him now.  Eva used to act out when freaked out about Corrine chasing Gideon - Eva's old dysfunctional wound-and-run pattern. How's Gideon going to handle his own freaking out over Brett chasing Eva? Hopefully by learning how to cope -- how to grow stronger.  In that interview with Sylvia that Amazon ran last week, among the things she said was this:  (Eva's) big issues had been insecurities, concerns about other people and other women particularly in Gideon’s life. It’s hard to have those sorts of fears and self-doubt after somebody makes a huge sacrifice, like Gideon did for her. So she’s in a much more stable place as far as her comfort level with the relationship and being able to accept the depth of his commitment to her. Gideon, however--what he’s done, there’s a lot of ramifications. Not just externally, but internally. So as she grows stronger, he’s actually struggling with more.  I think this means more than just the ramifications of having killed Nathan. What Gideon had done with Corrine -- from underestimating just how much Corrine's re-appearance triggered Eva to the fact Eva actually believed the lie Gideon went back to Corrine -- all had serious ramifications about Brett. Brett became a serious problem because of Gideon's past actions. Now Gideon is still struggling with the ramifications.  Past ramifications of Gideon's mishandling of the Corrine situation, which led to Brett becoming a real problem, came in this order: With good reason, Eva got mad at him and fought with him in front of witnesses the night she met Corrine. Gideon unknowingly handing Corrine psychological weapons against Eva directly led to the nooner stunt. The consequence of that was Eva quit trusting Gideon 100%. The Corrine insecurities consuming Eva from the inside were directly responsible for her kissing Brett back Gideon taking Corrine to dinner was directly responsible for Eva striking back by taking Brett to lunch Gideon taking Corrine to that party broke Eva's heart. It was the final straw that made Eva break up with Gideon Gideon acting like he and Corrine are back together is directly responsible for everyone believing he and Eva are over forever. Even the people closest to Eva believe it's OHVER. Eva kissing Brett and taking him to lunch are directly responsible for Brett telling an interviewer he and Eva have "reconnected" and he (Brett) wants another shot. That interview prompted Gideon to do something very dangerous -- approach Eva in front of other people, actions the cops potentially could now use as evidence.  Current possible ramifications as Entwined opens Deanna Johnson knows about Brett, so other journalists must know too. There's bound to be stories coming out soon, including the story about the fight after the concert. There were too many witnesses to keep that secret. Brett believes he has a clear shot at Eva, and so thus far he doesn't believe what she told him -- that there is no chance of them getting back together. He's going to actively pursue Eva -- and thus the media frenzy will be fed even more. Gideon cannot publicly "claim" Eva as his. He used to go out of his way to do that -- going as far as staging that passionate-kiss-on-the-sidewalk photo. Now Gideon is powerless, something that'd drive Mr. Control Freak up the wall.
  9. Â Choosing the TV network? Â HBO vs. Showtime? AMC vs. FX?
  10. Â And after we feast on Entwined, our appetite will grow even more -- bring on Book Four!!!!
  11. Amid all the Gideon growling and cougar purring, I almost forgot to post my favorite line or paragraph from the Chapter of the Day (Reflected Ch. 8). Â How could I, because it's one of the sassiest Eva one-liners EVAH, From page 130 Â Gimme that coffee. I want to be caffeinated when I kick your a**.
  12. Â I learned a lot of British language idioms from Harry Potter
  13.  Oh I think it was deliberate that Nathan ended up in a hotel owned by Gideon. Gideon, possibly working with Stanton, manipulated that to make it easier to keep an eye on Nathan.  I wonder how far in advance of his death was Nathan put up in that hotel. The security camera system supposedly had been offline for some time, for an upgrade, if what Detective Graves told Eva was true. This would make it easier for Gideon and his people to get at Nathan without leaving any sort of video record of coming and going.  We know the cops have seized some videotape from Stanton's office, per what Monica told Eva. It's also a safe bet the cops have been seizing some Crossfire tape as well, given how Gideon was careful to meet with Eva in the security office itself (out of camera view) and because he went through the trouble of parading Corrine through the Crossfire lobby two nights before the detective upped the ante by spilling the beans to Eva.  Graves said the hotel was owned by a subsidiary of Cross Industries, and I think Graves told the truth about that. If the hotel was owned by a subsidiary, it may not have even had the Cross name on it, so Nathan may have not known he was in one of Gideon's properties.  Did Stanton offer to put Nathan up as part of his (Stanton's) stringing Nathan along? The disinherited Nathan couldn't have afforded  a Manhattan hotel on his own.
  14. From Wikipedia, for Julie, who learned another bit of American trivia:  "Soup to nuts" is an American English idiom conveying the meaning of "from beginning to end". It is derived from the description of a full course dinner, in which courses progress from soup to a dessert of nuts
  15. Â Oh Eva would definitely be ready now to accept an engagement ring, I think. Because she's finally actually come to believe Gideon is in love with her -- and she's secure enough in that love. Plus, she's already quit pulling runners. Perhaps her only lingering fear is whether or not Gideon could push her away again, given what he did to her.
  16. I definitely think Gideon launched his private investigation into Nathan the morning after Eva revealed to Gideon what happened to her as a girl. Gideon's first stop was Stanton's office.  I still wonder, though -- and I hope to find out in less than two weeks from now (SQUEEE) -- which one of them made first direct contact. Had Gideon still been in the process of trying to hunt down Nathan when Nathan himself preemptively went to Gideon? Or, had Nathan already known Gideon was hunting him down?  Eva deserves a soup-to-nuts explanation of the whole mess, from first contact through to the current status of Gideon's defense strategy on the police investigation. She needs to know whether the pictures Nathan had have all now been destroyed. She needs to know what sort of connected involvement went on among Gideon, Monica and Stanton.  Gideon's got a lot of explaining to do about everything he tried to hide from her. Because the story is told from Eva's point of view, any explanations she gets, we get.
  17. Or someone hacked. But it's increasingly looking like that picture of the rings was real -- but got posted on the wrong day. The guy with the long dark hair is the official picture of the day.  So if the rings picture was supposed to have run another day ....  Well, Sylvia did say in that video interview earlier this month that Gideon will want to "put a ring on it." I think the only question is when. Entwined? Book Four? Book Five?  "What makes the greatest promise the scariest choice" can refer to Gideon's past history somehow too, and how that's affecting today. Because we know he had been engaged to Corrine eight years ago -- and today, the media is going nuts over the fact the pair of them have apparently gotten back together again. The greatest open promise Gideon has ever made was to Corrine all those years ago, agreeing to get engaged. The scariest choice Gideon has ever made is to do whatever he can to make his relationship with Eva work -- even though the choices involved her finding out about his nightmares (and thus his dark secrets.) Gideon had refused to make that scary choice -- let Corrine find out about the nightmares -- and so the promised marriage wasn't ever going to happen.  The diamond engagement ring is in the foreground and is in sharp focus. But the wedding ring -- and the "hand in marriage" itself is blurred.  I'm probably way too symbolic here throwing around different theories.
  18.  I think you're right, Sharon - the Daniel guy who struck up a conversation with Eva in Las Vegas was just some random guy. But Sheila the Security Guard was extra aggressive, I think, because she was an actual bodyguard. Gideon had already had his first meeting/showdown with Nathan and would have been paranoid about Eva's safety.  In New York, Gideon has made sure that whenever possible, he himself is with Eva. Since Nathan showed up, Gideon has now been insisting Eva allow Angus to drive her -- so Gideon has shifted his own bodyguard to Eva without her knowledge. The Brooklyn trips to Krav Maga are covered by Monica's driver/bodyguard.  BUT ..... here's what's got me wondering  Gideon faced Nathan lunchtime on Thursday. But did Gideon already know before then that Nathan was in New York? Perhaps Gideon himself had hunted down Nathan first? Found out from Stanton where Nathan's last known whereabouts had been?  Because the Las Vegas trip was decided on Thursday morning, hours before that lunchtime incident in Gideon's office. Originally, Gideon had been insisting Eva go to Arizona with him, and he even explained that because of she's been in the public eye, he didn't feel safe with her being left in New York without him. When Eva insisted she needed to spend time with the in-crisis Cary, that's when she and Gideon compromised - Vegas trip, one of his hotels, and a condition that she take security with her if she leaves.  I can understand him being worried about her in New York City. But Las Vegas? The chances of her being recognized somewhere out in public pretty slim.  So how long ago did Gideon shift from simple possessiveness to real paranoia? When he first found out about Nathan in general? Or was it when he found out some very specific present-day stuff about the guy via private investigation? Most importantly - who made direct contact first? Nathan? Or Gideon?
  19. Oh I think that come June 7, we're going to bounce all over the place. Well, at least I will, starting off with the big AH HAH!!!! moments, especially the ending, and whatever major crisis erupts somewhere in the middle of the novel. Â Then I can see myself enjoying the summer going step by step savoring every plot twist.
  20. Â Interesting point - Daniel the trainer at Gideon's gym, who had been trying to give excellent customer service before the boss stepped in. Daniel the guy in Las Vegas, who had started a friendly conversation with Eva before the security guard (probably a bodyguard) stepped in. Â Coincidental use of a common first name? Or something deeper? AGHHHHH!!!! We often read something into everything, because some of the most important characters start off as just being mentioned in passing, sometimes by name, sometimes not even by name at first -- only to emerge chapters later as crucial characters First time, there was "the driver" -- who became Angus. Second time, there was the "stepson" -- who became Nathan. Third time, "lead singer" -- that was Brett.
  21. Â They were engaged for a year and she had to have been the one to drag it out. Â For two years, she'd been settling for hotel trysts, hoping for overnights together -- something people in love do (look at Eva -- she got her first overnight the very day Gideon made her his girlfriend.) Â Gideon thinks the whole reason Corrine proposed was to get him to open up more -- including him proving it to her via overnights together. Didn't happen, though. Corrine let this go on for another year, though. Â Then even more desperate to make him actually work at the relationship, she ended the engagement, gambling that he's freak over the prospect of losing her, wake the h*** up, and finally fight for what he had with her. Backfired badly -- he let her walk. Â Eva actually listened to Gideon the night Gideon explained the history -- including his theories -- to Eva. He managed to calm her down and reassure her. Too bad Corrine destroyed that the next day with that stunt at the Crossfire. Eva gave into her own insecurities instead of paying attention to how Gideon's words the night before had matched his actions in their own new relationship -- Gideon began spending overnights with her from the very start of their relationship, and he was will to work so hard at it that he even agreed to enter couples therapy. Â Thank God that Eva finally now is in a good place where she at last sees Gideon's actions prove he loves her and will do anything -- anything -- for them to be able to be together. And she's finally laid her own insecurities to rest -- Gideon ain't ever gonna wade into the Corrine pool again.
  22. Paul, the doorman at Eva/Cary's apartment building Chad, new character in Ch. 1 of Entwined, one of the night crew folks at the front desk of Eva/Cary's building  They both have good jobs with Cross Industries.Â
  23. Â The one time Gideon did have an honest conversation with Eva about Corrine (at Eva's place after Eva walked out of the fundraiser Corrine had crashed) Gideon told Eva, in my opinion, only the most important things -- the highlights of the situation to convince Eva the engagement was never his idea to begin with and contrary to what Magdalene might have thought, he hadn't been heartbroken, thinking Corrine "was the one who got away." Gideon let her walk. Â We never heard a blow by blow of the engagement, such as wedding plans, the involvement of both their families, etc. .... (though Sylvia did indicate recently Corrine's family and Gideon's knew one another.) Â And given how paranoid Eva got over Corrine the next day (thanks to Corrine's stunt to make Eva fear Gideon f***** Corrine in his office during lunch) Gideon avoided talking about Corrine as much as possible. He barely even would talk about Corrine in couples therapy -- other than to deny Eva's accusations. Â So there is a great deal we don't know about Corrine in the past. And we know only a little about Corrine in the present. I'm hoping we'll find out more about her, past and present, in Entwined, when Gideon and Eva finally can honestly talk about Corrine without Eva freaking out any more.
  24. Chapter 7 of Reflected in You - The Readers Guide  This chapter starts Monday evening (day 21) and continues through Tuesday evening (day 22)  Key plot developments For the second time, while sleeping in Eva's bed, Gideon tried to sexually assault her while fast asleep in the middle of one of his violent nightmares. Cary, afraid that the relationship could permanently damage Eva, told her to dump Gideon. However, she became determined to hang in there, staying in text contact with Gideon the next day when he avoiding talking to her. Then she took it upon herself to go see him Tuesday night, letting herself into his apartment for the first time with her own key. Eva convinced him she was done running, and he confirmed he'd was continuing to work with Dr. Petersen on the problem.  New characters None in this chapter  Another really rough night "Atypical sexual parasomnia was what Dr. Petersen called it, a manifestation of Gideon's deep psychological trauma. I called it h***. And we were both trapped in it." (page 115) For the fourth time in the two weeks they've slept alongside one another most nights, Eva has witnessed Gideon having one of his painful nightmares. They'd been getting increasingly worse, possibly in response to the increasing pressure he's under. For the second time, he'd turned from victim to aggressor, in his dream attacking rather than being attacked. But the parasomnia (a sort of sleepwalking) makes him act out while still fast asleep - and for the second time, he acted out on Eva. The first time, which also happened at her place, Cary heard her scream and pulled Gideon off her, waking him up in the process. Gideon was so horrified he wanted to leave, but Eva persuaded him to stay, and he cried for much of the night. This time, Cary slept through it, because rather than screaming, Eva used Krav Maga defensive skills to fight Gideon off -- waking him up in the process. This time, he also wanted to leave, but this time Eva didn't stop him. Later, Gideon called Cary to wake him up in order to have him check on Eva. Cary was frantic when he found out. Eva claimed she was OK, but Cary could see she wasn't. "S***, Eva. I've never seen you like this. I can't stand it. ... enough is enough. Cut him off ... What are you waiting for? You're going to wait too long and then this won't be just another bad relationship, it'll be the one that permanently f**** you up." (page 116). But Eva told Cary she's not going to give up. However, almost immediately after vowing that to Cary, Eva discovered Gideon had deliberately left his key to her apartment behind. So now she feared Gideon was giving up, because the last time he'd returned her key, he'd broken up with her -- done so because of one of his nightmares.  Eva goes to him When Gideon had broken up with her before, she assumed it was over, and she let him go. Four days later, realizing he couldn't be without her, Gideon went back to her. This time, she didn't let him walk. He contacted her by text, not phone, and she replied by telling him she wanted to see him that night. He put her off though, telling her he had his weekly individual appointment with Dr. Petersen and he had a lot of work to do. She kept pushing, but the best she could get was a maybe. So for the first time, she used her own key to let herself into his apartment. When he got home, he found her there. It turned out he'd gone to her place looking for her, only to be told by Cary to go to h***. Cary then phoned Eva to continue to urge her to end the situation. Gideon, however, decided he can't let go ... "I can't even say I'll let you walk, if that's why you're here." (apge 125) So they talked. Eva very carefully gave him back her key, making it clear to him the key was a gift. More importantly, she told him something that meant more to him than she could possibly know, because what she said went right to the heart of his abandonment fears and his terror of her "runners." "I'm not running anymore. You've made me stronger. You gave me a reason to try harder." (page 127) Gideon had seen Dr. Petersen earlier that evening, who had repeated the same advice he's given to the pair of them the week before in couples therapy - they were in too deep, so they needed to pull back sexually, date platonically, sleep separately. Gideon at least decided they would take one part of the advice -- sleeping separately. As in separate beds. Eva already had her own bedroom in his apartment.
  25. A Chapter A Day Re-Read Project - Today is Chapter 8 of Reflected in You  This chapter starts Wednesday morning (day 23)  and goes through Thursday evening (day 24)  Key plot developments Thursday evening, Eva and Gideon have their second couples therapy session with Dr. Petersen. They discuss Gideon having attacked Eva in his sleep on Monday night -- and talk about how she's determined to make the relationship work. Wednesday morning before work at Gideon's apartment, he and Eva also discuss how much they want to make the relationship work. They talk over some important things then and there, and Gideon says he wants to take her away the upcoming weekend so they can talk even more.  After each of us has read Chapter 8, Sylvia would like to know what each of us liked best - either a quote or a paragraph.
