This forum actually is a good place to watch too, because when big news hits, the hardcore fans here get really excited. Though I watch social media, this place is often the first I catch wind of stuff.

I have a question.  If Book 4 doesn't come out until Nov/Dec, how many times do you think we can change our theories in that time?

 

A lot.

 

That's one of the best parts of discussing the books in such depth and then bouncing theories off fellow posters. It give us a chance to consider, and then reconsider -- and then reconsider even more -- various theories as we consider different ideas.

 

Some of the stuff in Entwined (and even as far back as Bared to You) that started out as mentions in passing have actually turned out to be red flags: our first warning of major stuff to come. Like Eva telling Gideon weeks and weeks ago that Corrine calling him every day was "nuts" and "stalking"

 

Other stuff has turned out to be red herrings, leading us down a certain road and then, boom, major plot twist takes the story elsewhere. We thought we knew what was coming, but then got surprised.

 

Based on both Bared to You and Reflected in You, though, I've learned that the final chapter needs very careful reading. In the first two books, there were major red flags in the last chapter -- so everything in the last chapter of Entwined needs careful attention.

If Victor didn't actually see the flowers, he must have smelled them!! i guess he may have rolled his eyes thinking about his daughter's new suitor, ai if Gedeon weren't enough to worry about!!

 

Maybe he thought they were from Monica and Stanton, the two of them comforting Eva for the fact that the whole Nathan situation was coming back to haunt poor Eva yet again.

 

Gideon was smart to send white roses instead of red.

New England Yankee of pure Irish-American descent, taking Spanish lessons as an adult in order to better understand fellow Americans. Even in the cities north of New York, such as Boston and Buffalo, Spanish is widely spoken. I want to go beyond just knowing certain phrases; I'd like to start learning to speak, and ultimately read, the language.

 

I am in awe of some of the ladies here for whom English is a second language, who are reading novels like the Crossfire series in the original language rather than translation, and then discussing the books also in the original language, English.

 

As good as some translations of books into other languages can be, nothing beats reading the actual words the author wrote in whichever language he/she did, crafting the story in the language he/she knows best. I'd love to some day read Spanish language books as written by their authors instead of English translations.

Doesn't Cary notice she's got a burner phone? She looked at it in the Indian restaurant when they were there with Megumi and Trey. He even looked over the table to see.

 

It was probably a combo of that burner phone and the fact that the "mystery man" obviously was fantastic in bed that made Cary figure out Eva was seeing Gideon.

 

I wonder whether Cary yet made the leap to what possible reason could there be for Eva to sneak around with Gideon. It wasn't Gideon "cheating" on Corrine, because Corrine had disappeared from being Celebrity Cross arm candy. The cops, however, had been asking Gideon about Nathan right in front of Cary that night at Eva's apartment.

 

Cary has probably pieced together the fact that Gideon permanently solved the Nathan problem, though I doubt Cary suspects the truth Gideon did it with his own two hands. He might suspect what Eva herself initially had -- that Gideon (or Stanton) hired a hitman. Eva actually came out and asked Monica whether Stanton had done so.

OMG! I've been wondering this too?! How could he not afford to pay for a flight to Cali?  He doesn't pay rent, no car....what's he got? A phone bill? Shopping ?

 

As a previously unknown model, he probably got paid very little for his first big job modeling those jeans. And he was out of work completely for a couple of weeks because he was too bruised from the beating, including sporting a couple of black eyes.

Yup! Im hispanic (from the DR) and I must say that Im happy that Eva is part hispanic. Makes the story so current to today's society especially here in the US.

 

I love the part in Bared to You where Magdalene cornered Eva in the ladies room for the cat fight -- Maggie having seen Gideon act weird towards his date, Eva, then ditched Eva to leave early and alone. Now Maggie was going in for the kill, believing Eva had just been chucked onto the reject pile.

 

There was a ladies room attendant there, obviously Hispanic given the fact that Maggie, Hispanic herself, told the attendant in Spanish to give her and Eva a little privacy. Eva looks like her mother, who obviously is of northern European descent, and Maggie was counting on the fact Eva probably knew little if any Spanish. An opening power play on Maggie's part, an attempt to make Eva insecure wondering what the h.e.l.l. Maggie just said to that attendant.

 

Instead, Eva very politely in Spanish added "please" to the attendant, something Maggie obviously hadn't said when she essentially told the attendant to go away. Go Eva!!! Her show of being a class act by telling the woman "please" in Spanish earned Eva a raise eyebrow from Maggie.

I get what you're saying but I still believe that Gideon told Corinne up front that they would never be more than friends.  I think through the two or so weeks that Corinne was his plus 1 he treated her like a friend.  Even when he leaned in and talked to her for the photographer, I think that was a calculated move on his part and the comment was something mundane. I think Corinne liked the picture that was in the paper but she knew it was nothing.  My guess--even when Gideon took her home, he walked her to the door and didn't even go inside using the excuse that he has an early morning (like college) or he arranged with Angus to give him a phone call that he could use as a "need get away" for an emergency excuse to leave.

 

I think that Corinne tried to convince Gideon he wanted more but she understood the relationship wasn't going to move forward the night at the Kingsman event.  I think she stayed around with Gideon while he was dealing with the fire issues because she knew the hotel.  She thought Gideon would take her to the f**k pad but he didn't.  I think that night drove the point home that Gideon was really only going to be a friend.  

 

What surprises (angers) me is that Corinne never saw how Gideon was hurting.  Even Eva, as much as she was suffering herself, recognized that Gideon was in pain and asked Corinne to take note when she stopped by her apartment.  Eva told Corinne that Gideon loves her not Corrine but she has the opportunity to be his friend.  Unfortunately Corinne didn't want to be friends she decided to strike back and make Gideon suffer more by attempting suicide and killing her child.  The more I think about the more I hate her. 

 

He was spending free time with Corrine after Eva dumped him -- doing it for the benefit of the police. Corrine claimed he was spending "all" his free time, and that needs to be taken with a grain of salt. But certainly, he was spending some time -- he had to have been. After Detective Graves witnessed the break-up phone call, the danger level rose. We know for certain he saw Corrine the  final Monday of Reflected, and it's safe to say there may have been at least one more time, perhaps either that Friday or Saturday night. A reunited couple would go out on a date at least once on a weekend.

 

I'm certain they were speaking on the phone every day, too, perhaps sometimes multiple times, even if it was Gideon quickly returning calls. He knew all too well the cops likely would monitor the incoming and outgoing telephone numbers of his cell, home and office phone numbers. That's why, when he got back together with Eva, they used burner phones. He had to be very careful about his own phone numbers -- careful to put up quite a show.

Proofreading is like watching paint dry -- only your eyes get tired. And no matter how good you are, something always makes it past you and into print. Then it's all your fault because you were the last one to touch the copy.

 

BTW I don't think the text errors were Sylvia's. It's possible, but she's too good of an author. I suspect the errors somehow got introduced during the editing process after she turned in the manuscripts.

Also victor is hispanic and Hispanic men are very proud!

 

And hot -- seriously hot. Also very respectful toward women. It's a wonderful culture I've always admired here in the United States, where we have such a patchwork of different cultures and blending of cultures.

I'm confused about Mommica's marriages.

Monica Trammell Barker Mitchell Stanton

In RIY-

  She tells Cary (on the jet to Vegas) Chapt.5 pg 72-"My mom's second husband was a whale." That would be Mitchell.

  Chapt.6 pg 99-"I'd learned, thanks to my mom's third husband, that gambling....etc." That's not Stanton.

In EWY-

  Chapt.17 pg 260-when Mommica and Eva went to lunch after Eva met Giroux-'Over the course of three divorces, she'd amassed millions in personal wealth.'

  Also in a conversation she has with Clancy-Chapt.8 pg 118-"A lot of stuff happened before you and Stanton ever came into the picture."

  Plus there's that something that Mommica isn't telling Eva because Eva's upset, also when they went out to lunch.

So does this maybe mean there was another marriage she (Mommica) won't even acknowledge existed?

IDK-I'm all screwed up here.

 

There are some text inconsistencies that somehow made it into print somewhere along the editing process.

Page 99 of of Reflected should say "second" husband.

Page 260 should say "over the course of three marriages"

I'll bet, too, that Victor would refuse to touch any of the Barker money Monica could have brought into a marriage. He wouldn't touch it for the same reason Eva has refused to touch it -- it is blood money.

 

He'd insist on raising his family through his own earnings -- just like he insisted on sending his daughter to college by taking out student loans he'll spend many years now paying back.

She would have the money but she wouldn't have the status . JUST being RICH is a lot different than being the WIFE of a MOGUL and light years away from being the WIFE of a COP!!

 

A street-level cop at that, out on patrol, not even an elite cop, like a detective.

 

Victor certainly is smart enough to be a detective and is old enough to have risen through the officer ranks into some level of command responsibility. Yet he continues to drive a cruiser. To me, this signifies two things:

1. He's working the streets, because that's where he literally does the most good: working directly with victims, slapping handcuffs on bad guys. Not sitting at a desk, pushing paper. 
2. He's extremely brave. The most dangerous place to work as a cop is the streets. Most officers who end up losing their lives in the course of their duties are the street-level cops.

I (heart) Victor -- I'd love a shot at making him forget Monica.

I was reviewing the timeline xfire posted and it dawned on me that this story has only taken us through 9 weeks if I'm reading this correctly.  If that is true that explains why Cary doesn't have very much money.  I think models are contract employees and may only get paid once a month.  He was only working 5 weeks and then he was attacked and not able to work for 4.  My guess is that he has only had one paycheck so far and that wouldn't be that much since he is new to the business.

 

My math is 59 days, but I may be off a couple either way. That equates to about eight and a half weeks.

I agree.  I am having a hard time trying to figure out how Gideon can justify going even after his mother called.  If it were me I would have called JFG to make sure he knew and then said let me know if you need anything from me.   The only good thing that came out of that trip was that Gideon ran into Deanna and found out about the se x tape before it was released.  Gideon takes on too much for his own good and more often than not it backfires on him.

 

Knee-jerk guilt reaction. Which is exactly what Lizzie was counting on -- hitting him with the news in a way that implied "this is all your fault." Not without reason either -- Gideon very deliberately sent Corrine mixed signals, including acting like they were going somewhere. Actions speak louder than words. Corrine was convinced she had him back right up to the day he told her all they could be is long-distance friends -- NOT social. This meant no more spending time with her, period. 

 

He used her. Used her to protect Eva, but used her nonetheless. Coldly. All the while planning to quit spending any time with her, period, as soon as it was safe for him to resume seeing Eva. When he went into the (stupid!!!!) cover plan, he knew d.a.m.n. well he was going to deliberately hurt both women, manipulate them both by using their love for him. It shreded him to do it to Eva; I'll bet he cried himself to sleep every night knowing how hurt and angry she was. As for Corrine, he felt guilty.

OMG. You are so right. This woman is so twisted. She is poisoning everyone around Gideon, exacting her revenge on him. Slowly and methodically. How has she still got a licence? Doesn't her husband she how she is behaving.

What will she do next? Eva will definitely be in danger, if she is allowed to continue.

 

Probably because she's been clever enough to not get caught -- that's how she's still got a license. But Dr. Anne's got a problem now that a whole new set of physicians at the hospital will be reviewing Corrine's recent history, include her prescriptions. At the very least, it's not going to look pretty. If it's really bad, JFG might want to talk to lawyer about malpractice.

I will say again that neither Gideon or Eva have any business being there ;it is JFG place and her family's place to be there ; for the Vidals or the Cross's to be there would be quite inappropriate. IMO

Besides, Lizzie needs to start getting to know her son's wife. Corrine will never be part of the Vidal clan. Time to get to know Eva, start believing Gideon, and start doing her part to repair the damage she did in the past.

Sorry to interrupt the discussion of Anne and Llizzy.  Last night I reread the section where Eva was at Parker's and met up with Graves again and they sparred.  The line that is bothering me is about the bracelet on the Russian.  Why do you think, if indeed the case is supposedly cold, Graves tells Eva to be concerned about that bracelet?  It just is nagging at me.  What am I missing?

 

And congrats to Henry.  MAN OF STEEL  breaking records to great for him.  God, he is so hot.

 

Because as long as there are loose ends, it might not be possible for Graves to just "bury" the Nathan investigation forever. Just because it's "cold" does not mean it's over. It means the cops have hit some dead ends but at any time some sort of new evidence could reignite things to make it a hot case again.

 

Plus, organized crime is the jurisdiction of the FBI (the Federal police) so depending upon where the Russian Mafia stuff leads, there's always a chance that the FBI might want to take over Nathan's murder investigation from the NYPD. Graves would completely lose control of that case -- and another set of eyes looking at all the files might be suspicious of what she did -- and did NOT -- do.

If all of our darkest suspicions are true about Anne, then she actually is as evil as Terry believes (falsely) Gideon is.

 

Page 241 of Reflected has the conversation between Terry and Eva in the hospital cafeteria. He could see she looked like h.e.l.l. And at the time, Gideon actually was putting her through h.e.l.l. Terry swooped in to poison her mind and caught her at a vulnerable time.

 

Below are the things he said ... and then in italics are the things that actually could apply to Anne;

 

Terry to Eva: "Gideon Cross is a narcissistic sociopath ..."

Anne Lucas does narcissistic things (like being a using her sexuality to deliberately manipulate guys) and she most definitely a sociopath (if she was in fact driving Corrine to suicide, then Anne was committing pre-meditated murder purely for revenge purposes to hurt Gideon.)

 

Terry to Eva: "I believe he's a misogynist. He uses his money to seduce women, then despises them for being shallow enough to find his wealth attractive.

Anne Lucas comes across as some sort of man-hater, a serial cheater. She uses her psychiatric skills to manipulate other people, including men, and she despises ones she feels are weak, like her husband, because she has no respect for the man, who obviously loves her. And I'll bet she's fed Terry a tale about how "abusive" Gideon was to her mentally, convincing Terry that Gideon is a monster.

 

Terry to Eva: "He uses sex to control, and you never what sort of mood you'll find him in."

She uses sex to control, and you never know what sort of mood to pull stunts you'll find her in.

 

Terry to Eva: "He's a master manipulator and liar. Don't underestimate him. He's a twisted, dangerous man capable of just about anything."

Just insert "she and her" and you've got Anne.

It's not just the money with Monica. It's the lifestyle that goes with it. Functions, lunches, events. Victor doesn't seem the sort to be eye candy for Monica. He's a mans man. Monica is too high maintenance for such a great guy. He deserves a "normal" woman. Who will love him for who he is.

Also with Monica, I always got the impression she did all these functions to make up for not being there for Eva when she was a child being abused, this is her way of helping others and she would not be able to do that or have the resources to do with if she was with Victor

Monica got $2 million out of her first divorce -- and she got a $5 million settlement for Eva. Thus there was the money to make sure Eva never lack access to anything -- from the best treatment professionals to the finest schools, making sure Eva had a bright future.

 

But Monica wants guys who aren't just rich -- they're powerful too. She wants "old money" good families that move in high society circles. She was a debutante, and she'd want the same for Eva (sounds like Eva had no interest in doing anything but rebellious partying by the time Eva was debutante age, though.) She'd want Eva to be a socialite as an adult (which she did become.)

 

Victor could not give Monica that lifestyle. He'd never fit in (nor should he -- in his own way, he is a fabulous example of someone whose "work" involves risking his life to protect others, and he has a great deal of male pride in "earning" his way instead of having life handed to him on a silver platter. He paid for Eva to attend college himself, refusing Stanton's offer to pay, even though it means Victor probably will spend the next 15 years paying off student loans.

 

I think his macho, slightly dangerous ways are incredibly sexy to Monica. Victor is Dark and Dangerous too. But Monica has no desire to live in the lower economic classes, live like an ordinary woman. She's got to have the glamour and power that comes with moving among the rich and famous.

I don't know how I do it. But mine are bigger than the rest of yours. woohoo!

 

Are we going to start comparing whose Gideon is, um ... bigger .... than whose?

Chapter 12 is up for indepth discussion today.

 

Note: this particular chapter snapshot is the one that changed back and forth. It started off as the elevator picture you see here. Then it switched to a vase of white roses (the flowers Gideon put in Eva's bedroom while she was out with her Dad.) Then it switched back to the original picture of the elevators.

I'm going with Anne Lucas is still treating her. Then Lizzy recommended Anne to Corinne. Anne is a bunny boiler with her own axe to grind with Gideon. Anne and Corinne are the two women she(Anne) mentions at the end of the book, who have suffered depression because of him. Anne wants revenge big time. I think she is still suffering from a psychotic breakdown. Eva had better watch out. There's trouble ahead.

 

Dr. Anne Lucas still treating Lizzie in order to mess with Lizzie's mind is one way for Anne to enact a form of revenge against Gideon. Keep brainwashing Lizzie into believing Gideon had to have lied about the abuse because he was such a troubled kid. Also "encourage" Lizzie in ways to try to bridge the gap between Lizzie and her son, but all  "helpful suggestions" Anne is making are actually manipulating Lizzie into doing things that make matters worse. Like chasing him in a way that violates his emotional boundaries. Laying guilt trips on him that instantly raise his icy shield.

 

Moving forward in the thread, I'm going to call her Dr. Anne Lucas in emphasis that she is a psychiatrist -- the highest degree of specialty there is in the mental health treatment field, a medical doctor who specializes in mental illness. One of the most important aspects of being a psychiatrist is specializing in the use of drugs to treat illnesses -- and the legal capability of prescribing the medications. That's crucial when it comes to the suspicions Anne ended up treating Corrine. As a psychiatrist, Anne would have specialist information in how the medications work -- including their negative side effects and the fact that in some cases, the meds can make matters even worse. If Anne literally wanted to drive Corrine insane via feeding her psych meds, Anne would know exactly how to do it.

Just saw Man of Steel. Well acted by Henry. Amazing special effects. Initial opening weekend box office receipts have exceeded expectations -- and has proven the film is one of the this summer's blockbusters.

 

Has mega-franchise written all over it, just like the Batman films.

 

So Henry's price tag has gone up considerably, and his availability for other projects (like television series) has gotten scarcer. Because it's guaranteed now more Superman movies will get made. Number one is a huge hit, not a big flop.
