  1. LOL and the most important part of her scheme (?) Getting him to 'ride her bare back' when we know he NEVER did that except with Eva.  Of course he's not about to cheat of her either.  Sorry the Corrine Plan was doomed from the beginning.   :)

The Corrine plan was always doomed from the start. Just because she schemed to trick Gideon into thinking he'd impregnated her doesn't mean it would actually ever work. But like she was fooling herself about a lot of other things, she'd probably fooled herself into thinking she could get him to engage in unprotected sex. Or even claim that even with the condom, she got pregnant anyway.

Condoms aren't 100% effective. An article I read on Wikipedia cited a 2% average failure rate even if a couple uses them every single time. No method of birth control short of abstinence is 100% effective.

So there would be a reason for Corrine to stay pregnant for the time being -- so she could show Gideon a home pregnancy test wand proving she was pregnant, then tell him he's the only one she had sex with, and .... voila. Instant engagement and his help in doing whatever he could to speed along the already-in-progress divorce proceedings in France.

    Dumb and desperate.

  2. Does anyone think that Gideon will visit Corrine over the weekend when Eva and Cary are away in SD?

He better not. He might even be unable to do so. At this point, JFG probably has the power to forbid certain visitors, including Gideon. JFG is still Corrine's husband, so technically he has next-of-kin authority to call many shots at the hospital. This would be doubly so given she's a psychiatric patient right now.

  3. Early in Bared to You, Cross Industries approached the agency where Mark and Eva work, inviting the agency to put in an RFP (Request For Proposal) for the Kingsman vodka account. Essentially invited the agency to put in a private bid -- a proposal for exactly what work the agency would do to advertise Kingsman, and how much they'd charge Cross Industries for the work.

When that invitation to submit an RFP came in, Mark was asked for by name. It turned out this was because Gideon deviously indirectly was trying to get access to Eva, whom at the time he was trying to seduce.

I wonder whether the meeting Mark got called might involve another invite for the agency to put in an RFP for another Cross Industries project. Like maybe the Crossroads Foundation -- how to design an advertising campaign for it. Mark's getting asked for by name again, only this time along with Eva by name.

Maybe more Gideon trying to get access to her at work -- this time her brains working on advertising for something she'd feel passionate about and has already demonstrated some talented ideas about. I can see him pulling something like this -- an "offer she can't refuse."

  4. Gideon certainly would have needed professional relationship advice now more than ever from Dr. Petersen -- how could he help Eva overcome her false beliefs about those photos and her conviction he's f***** Corrine. Her heart was broken -- what the h.e.l.l. could Gideon do to repair it?

Originally, Gideon was going to have to win Eva back on his own merits as soon as it was safe to contact her. She wasn't ever supposed to know the truth about why he pulled away.

  5. P.S. Timeline on the missed appointments

    Nathan murder week

Tues. Gideon missed his individual appointment (because he's scrambling with his security team, having learned on Monday how dangerous Nathan is.

Thurs. Eva shows up for couples therapy, and Gideon is a no show.

    Sat. Eva ends the relationship.

    Week two

Tues. Gideon kept his appointment -- and likely told the Dr. Eva dumped him, so the Thursday appointment isn't looking likely, because she's not on speaking terms with Gideon (a half truth).

Thurs. During the day, Eva left a message with Petersen's receptionist that she was terminating couples therapy.

    Week three

Tues. Gideon would have seen Petersen

Wed. Gideon and Eva reunited in secret

  6. Another thought on this subject, don't you wonder what he told Dr Peterson during the next Tuesday (after Nathan) appt about missing couples appt. And sorry don't recall when Eva called and canceled all the couples appts, but what was Gideon explanation to the DR about the whole relationship imploding ???

Gideon is the king of half truths. Every word he'll have told Dr. Petersen would be true, but Gideon would be leaving the really important stuff out, keeping to himself the secret he couldn't ever reveal - he'd killed Nathan.

However, there are some things it would be "safe" to tell Petersen about, all of these things true:

    • Nathan Barker had turned up dead (Petersen was bound to find out from Monica Stanton anyway -- she's also Petersen's patient).
    • Eva found out about the rape photos/video Barker had.
    • Eva's insecurities and jealousies over him spending time with his friend-in-need, Corrine Giroux, coupled with the blow Eva's self-esteem took because of the pictures made her dump Gideon.
    • He wanted to explain to her that the photos never mattered; he's seen them weeks ago, not that week. And he and Corrine are just spending time together (the doctor might not quite buy that based on the tabloid photos of Gideon and Corrine all cozy).
    • But his lawyers have advised Gideon to avoid contact with Eva or the Stantons for now, because all of them are being eyed as having possible involvement. Both he (Gideon) and the Stantons do have motive. So temporarily, Gideon needs to steer clear of Eva for everyone's protection, even her own, until the police can determine she and he had nothing to do with Nathan's death.

Poor Gideon may have been a crying mess in Petersen's office that Tuesday, repeating word-for-word the agonizing phone call from Eva on Saturday as well as showing him a copy of the email Eva sent him the prior Wednesday (the "I hate that I love you" email).

With all honesty, he'd beg the doctor for advice on how to handle Eva now as soon as it is OK to contact her. How can he reassure her? What should he say?

  7. I agree.  I don't think it's Cary's.  She just wants to cause trouble.  His career is coming up and his face is everywhere now.  She isn't.  She wants money.

But I think she will drag it till the end and make his life miserable in the meantime so he can lose Trey.  She might be doing it to get back at Eva.

That and as long as T.w.a.t.i.a.n.a. has access to Cary's apartment, she has access to his roommate Eva -- and more specifically, Eva's significant other, Gideon Cross. T.w.a.t. would love to be Gideon's Friend With Benefits.

She's in for a surprise - Cary and Eva aren't going to be roommates much longer. That's when we'll find out whether or not the pregnancy was a bluff - as soon as T.w.a.t. finds out Gideon won't be swinging by that apartment any more. And that Gideon is permanently off the market.

  8. Eva asked him to go back to Dr Petersen after he had a nightmare. She was surprised to learn that he ad kept up his appointments, missing only one.

Eva also was surprised to hear, the morning after they'd reunited, that he'd already cut Corrine off.

That was Thursday morning. He saw Corrine on Monday night, we know, because Corrine met him at the Crossfire in time to leave with him right after business hours. Eva hadn't left the vicinity of the building yet, so out on the sidewalk, she spotted them climbing into his Mercedes. And he saw her too -- saw how angry she got.

Was Gideon already planning to cut Corrine off -- or -- did he decide then and there as he climbed into the car he needed to do it?

    1. Sunday: Brett gave that radio station interview in Florida, which hit the Internet, saying he and Eva were reconnected and he was bent on getting back together with her.
    2. Monday lunchtime: Gideon gave Eva back her promise ring, the first time since she'd dumped him he had any contact whatsoever with her. During their encounter in the elevator, he learned probably to his horror she was feeling so beat-down on her self esteem that she was going to let him use her to get himself off in the elevator.
    3. Monday after work: Eva saw him with Corrine and flipped him the middle finger, displaying anger. Then she turned her back on him, stood there on the sidewalk, and immediately telephoned someone (it was her mother, but I'll bet Gideon was paranoid she just called Brett.)

Gideon also would have remembered the last time Eva lost her temper with him over Corrine, she immediately got even by taking Brett out to lunch. What might she do with Brett to get even now, firmly convinced Gideon was f***** Corrine.

I think at that point, Gideon weighed the risks of continuing to be seen with Corrine in public (to keep fooling the cops) against the risks of Eva turning to Brett. And decided Corrine had to go immediately, because the danger was now high that Eva might go running right into Brett's arms -- and his bed.

    • Eva's insecurity running rampant would put her at risk of degrading herself sexually. She'd done it before with other men, including Brett, and had been feeling so bad when Gideon approached her that day she was willing to let him use her.
    • Eva's jealousy running rampant had already repeatedly proven that when she got mad - she got even.
    • Putting both together was a surefire way to drive her right into Brett's bed, Gideon probably thought in panic.

We know that New Eva wouldn't have done it. Gideon didn't, though. The only Eva he knew was the shattered, heartbroken one who dumped him over Corrine and had been willing earlier that same day to serve as a "pre-approved orifice" for a lunchtime quickie.

  9. I think Gideon is going to have to cough up a couple of those beach wedding photos, which would be exceptionally financially valuable to Deanna if she got them as an exclusive.

The society wedding pictures wouldn't be of much monetary value if everyone knew it was a "second" wedding for the families, not the real wedding.

He's got to keep a financial leash on Deanna. His giving her the photos is the exact equivalent to him having paid off Ian to keep his mouth shut. I'll bet he makes Deanna sign a non-disclosure agreement about her knowledge of the Brett-Eva sex tape.

And he'll need to give Deanna the photos almost immediately now, because of the sex tape's existence. Or else Deanna could turn around and do a freelance story on the tape, making some serious money off of that instead.

I think what he was talking to Deanna about when Deanna slithered into Eva's seat at that social event in the last chapter of Entwined was telling Deanna he and Eva had secretly married over the weekend and that he would give Deanna a couple of pictures of the wedding. The existence of the sex tape changed considerably the fact Gideon would want the world to know Eva is his wife now, not wait the months and months Monica would spend planning a society wedding.

  10. It was desperation over their first estrangement that drove him to arrange for therapy. When he chased Eva to the garden party at the Vidals and begged her to give him another chance, his way of proving he was serious about making them work was his willingness to enter individual and couples therapy.

It makes sense he continued to be Dr. Petersen's patient all along. Because when it would have been "safe" for him to "go back" to Eva when she no longer had to "wait" out whatever mysterious reason he'd pulled away, Gideon was going to have do so some very serious proving he deserved another chance. He was going to have to win Eva back. I'll bet his original plan would involve begging her to resume couples therapy, telling her all along he'd never quit treatment.

  11. this is something I have been thinking about, sorry if its been discussed before.

In light of Eva finding out that she has been bugged and tracked by Clancy what happened the night she went to the apartment after her talk with Graves.

Gideon admitted that he moved into the apartment next door so that he could get to her quickly if need be. Therefore he would be spending more time there than at the penthouse. Clancy told her he turned off the receiver after confirmation that Nathan was dead.

So my question is this, how did Gideon know to go to the penthouse that night when he found her sitting on the floor because she didn't have a key? How long do you think she would have waited? Did Clancy call him and tell him she was there?

After Nathan died, it no longer was necessary for Gideon to stay next door. The apartment was an emergency measure for the days immediately prior to Gideon taking Nathan down.

I'm envisioning him staying there some nights after Nathan was dead and Eva had dumped him -- staying there purely to be near her physically, even though in every other respect she was a million miles away. I have this sad image of each of them crying themselves to sleep, separated by a wall.

But Gideon would have spent most nights at the penthouse in order to keep up appearances. The way he was dressed when he came home to find Eva parked on his doorstep suggests he was just arriving home from the gym. Had he been out that night -- for example, on a publicly staged "date" with Corrine, Eva may have sat there in a daze until the wee hours of the morning, I think, still shocked by what she'd just been told and waiting for him to arrive home.

He and Corrine went somewhere after business hours on Monday (Eva caught him leaving the Crossfire with her.)

Tuesday evening would have been his weekly individual appointment with Dr. Petersen.

Hitting the gym Wednesday evening made sense.

  12. Hidden cameras and/or listening devices planted by the FBI are a possibility for having watched the gangsters.

Which brings up another issue -- if the Feds know some of his fellow gang members killed him, then there's an entirely separate Federal government murder investigation going on about that. No wonder Graves is worried about the loose end, because the NYPD investigation into Nathan's murder could get swept up into a Federal investigation about the murder of his killer.

  13. I think Monica definitely would be using birth control. She is still young enough to conceive. Stanton is older than her (how much, we don't know, but based on the physical description plus his professional standing, mid-50s or older is my guess) and I don't think he'd be keen on becoming the parent of a newborn at this stage in his life. Besides, given how paranoid Monica is over the safety of a grown child, I don't think she could handle an infant -- she'd be in a constant state of anxiety every waking minute.

  14. What I found interesting about the physical description we have of Jean-Francois that he has jade green eyes and dark wavy hair (I take dark to mean brown). Gideon has, as we all know and dream about at night, vivid blue eyes and inky black curly hair.

So Corrine went for a guy with similar, though not exactly the same, hair as Gideon (a male brunette with curly texture) but went with a different eye color.

  15. You know my opinion ladies!! Prostitution! If its not I will eat crow pie!

Julie, every one of us is due some crow pie based on all the wild theories we had after we'd read Reflected and were waiting for Entwined to come out. For example, there was a faction convinced Monica killed Nathan. More crow pie is due after Book Four.

They make outstanding crow pie at Tableau One. You can even get carry out to bring home :)

  16. hahaha! good point! They've both got work to do.

Gideon more than her though, I think. He disappeared to California without telling her...after they were married! He said he was busy the whole time...and I'm sure he was...but, REALLY? Not even time for a 2 minute call or text message???

I wonder if he was unintentionally (and completely unconsciously) punishing her for the extra drama.

He  covered this  action  by saying there   will be times  that  she  needs to trust  him.     And  being married  helps  her  to feel  more  secure  when  he does things  like  this.   He  may  not have  wanted  anyone to follow  his trail to  CA and had  to know for

sure if the  tape  existed  before  mentioning it  to Eva.

Who  thinks he watched the  whole  video?

He actually regressed back to his old ways at this point.

When he is doing something to protect Eva he shuts her out. She has come to realise this now. Stupid man!

Sylvia herself has said many times Gideon has a lot more work today. It's the reason why Crossfire is going to five books; there's so much Gideon story that Sylvia couldn't fit it all into three novels.

The secret trip to California to deal with the sex tape issue was pure regression right back into keeping Nathan's rape photos/video of Eva a secret. I think the sex tape issue re-triggered a bunch of recent baggage in Gideon's mind: seeing those old images of Eva being raped, the brand new baggage of being a killer, the very-fresh baggage of ex-lover drama (Corrine and Brett).

But bless, Gideon, he did make progress when he came back. He opened up and told Eva the truth.

I don't think he watched the whole sex tape. He told Eva he didn't and he promised he wouldn't. Aside from some lies he told the week he killed Nathan, he's never said a false word to her (or so he claims and I believe him.) But he definitely watched some in order to authenticate the fact is really was Eva. Umm .... what did "authenticate" involve? I think it involved looking at more than her face; he looked at body parts too, I'll bet.

  17. Victor   read the  reports  so I am  guessing he  knows that  Gideon  was a  suspect.

As  for  Graves,   she  knows it  was  Gideon  but  can't  prove  it.

But the  bracelet  has  her  questioning again.  Her  comment  "I  hate  lose  ends"

She  probably  hates  not  know  how that bracelet  ended up where it  did.

The  case is  cold as  far as the  police are concerned.

I  wouldn't  be  surprised if she ends up with  Victor  lol

HI Mrs. X!! X-cellent we have a Down Under addition to the forum. Truly going global.

There's two set of court/police files involving Nathan, the old ones from ten years ago where he's a rapist and Eva is the victim, and brand new ones that are about four weeks old where he is the murder victim.

We know Victor definitely read the old files involving the investigation and ultimately the conviction of Nathan, including that he was locked up in a psychiatric facility instead of jail. Victor told Eva he read those. My suspicion is he got the copies from Detective Shelley Graves and/or her partner, but he could have tracked them down by other means. Because Nathan was arrested, tried and convicted, there's a whole set of court records.

I have a sneaking suspicion he's been shown select parts of the NYPD investigation file into the murder of Nathan. Because no one has been arrested yet (and thus there's no court records yet) those files are extremely confidential. At this point, the only place he could get any copies of anything in there would be either leaks from the detectives or from the prosecutor they're reporting to. Because Gideon hasn't been arrested, his defense lawyers aren't entitled to them -- and besides, Gideon would be the last person wanting Victor to know about the rapes, much less the truth about the murder.

Victor knows something though -- either through the detectives or by connecting the dots himself as a very smart cop himself. Because he's done a 180-degree turn on Gideon, from showing Eva proof Gideon "cheated" on her with Corrine the week he'd first met Gideon to giving his blessing on Gideon marrying his daughter. Victor knows Gideon knew about Nathan, so the rapes weren't why Gideon "dumped" his daughter.

  18. I really hope Corrine the character leaves the series forever very early in Book Four -- that Gideon finally washes his hands of her 100% including refusing to have any more contact with her.

Because any more contact isn't going to help and is going to make matters worse -- all the prior contact he had with her only served to make her even more desperate every time she spoke with him or saw him. It was fuel to the stalking fire.

He'd decided he never wanted to talk to her ever again as soon as Eva told him all about the stunt Corrine pulled at her apartment, trying to trick Eva into thinking Gideon had just f***** her inside and had also really had had a nooner with her (Corrine) the day after he learned she had moved back to New York.

But then she kept playing on the guilt, getting him to actually come over to her apartment twice in as many nights (the second night, he found out about the meds and immediately called JFG to come take over.) Lizzie guilt tripped him into going to the hospital, despite the fact he had NO business being there.

I want to sit down with the guy as a friend like Maggie and lecture him for his own good, "Just say NO Gideon. She's not your responsibility. You cannot help her in any way -- all you can do is make matters worse by having any further contact whatsoever. Hurt yourself too, because every contact is going to leave you feeling guilty. Because she'll manipulate you every time. Her husband and/or her family needs to take care of her, as does a good psychiatrist. Go be with your wife, Eva, and don't look back. You deserve to be happy. Corrine can't give you that -- and all she has given you this summer is sheer misery."

  19. He made sure Eva did go to the couples' appointment on Thursday, lying to her that he was going to show, because he was manipulating her movements in order to make sure she had an alibi.

    1. Business meeting in the afternoon where she was widely seen.
    2. Angus took her straight from work to Petersen's office and then from there straight home (because Cary was newly-home from the hospital)
    3. She stayed in all night, and Cary was not the only other person in the apartment. The intensive part of the home care included private nurses, so there would have been someone awake in the apartment all night who could -- if things got desperate -- confirm Eva never left until early the next morning.
    4. Early the next morning, Raul was downstairs waiting to drive her to the airport.

I think Gideon actually would have gone to his Tuesday appointment that week, had he not been scrambling that night with Raul in order to get in place the security measures for Eva's apartment building, including Gideon's taking over the unit next to hers'

Monday and Tuesday night both, Eva spent at the hospital by Cary's bedside. But Gideon knew Cary would be transferred home Wednesday during the day, meaning Eva would definitely be at the apartment building on Wednesday. Thus Gideon needed to be next door to watch.

Though what ended up happening was his spending the night in her bedroom, having received that God-awful email from Eva that evening in which she poured out her agony over his seeing Corrine again, ending it with "I hate that I love you."

    • Remember, she knew for certain he'd gone out with Corrine on Monday night (press photos proved it).
    • She firmly believed he had Corrine over to his apartment on Tuesday night. She called Gideon at home from the hospital and background noise proved someone else was there (it was Raul, but she suspected Corrine -- and the fact Gideon ended the phone call when Eva demanded the truth convinced her -- she started sobbing after he hung up.)
    • He made no plans to come by her apartment to see her on Wednesday, so she assumed he was with Corrine the third night in a row -- when actually, he was right next door until the middle of the night, when he sneaked into her bedroom.
  20. What if Corrine's suicide attempt really was her last-gasp attempt to get Gideon by her side, and her last dirty trick against Eva, figuring that Eva would react to Gideon running to Corrine's side by pulling another runner away from Gideon. Perhaps Corrine was counting on the overdose either outright triggering miscarriage (which it did) or at least creating medical grounds for a second-trimester abortion? Now that JFG was back, she definitely needed to get rid of the baby, because Gideon would insist she return to her husband if they were having a child.

I know I'm thinking truly evil thoughts here -- but Corrine is truly desperate and inside her really is the c**** b**** hidden beneath the sweet exterior she presents to Gideon and drops behind his back.

I still hope Sylvia will weigh in soon on this spoiler question -- yes/no - did Corrine know she was pregnant?

And if yes, was that why she raced back to Gideon in New York, hoping to trap him while the pregnancy was still so very early she could pass the baby off as his for as long as it took to coerce him into marrying her the instant the divorce from JFG went through?

  21. One of the hottest lines yet in the series for me had been the "I'd love to spread you across the hood and f*** you real slow. Push my c*** deep inside you. Give those shocks a workout." (page 163)

I hope he actually does it in Book 4 or 5, and she reciprocates with her promise of blowing him while he's driving. It's be right up there with the sex swing scene Sylvia has suggested is coming (pun intended!)

  22. Hi Julie

I have no clue but at a wild guess she could have had a trust fund that her parents couldn't interfere with but that's just pure speculation.I agree it sounds like she's hiding something bad .

If another relative, like a grandparent, set up a trust fund, her parents couldn't take it away. That's one possibility.

I still think she got some rich man and powerful man to take care of her, though, and yet got "burned" by the fact he didn't marry her. So I'm thinking mistress. I don't think Monica is past breaking up a marriage. Besides, a lot of powerful men break their own first marriages on their own, looking for beautiful second (or even third) wives much younger than they are. Perhaps she thought she'd landed one, and when the guy didn't marry her, the life lesson she learned was to be very pragmatic of forcing guys to chase all the way to the altar itself. Make them work hard for it and refuse to settle for anything less than matrimony.

  23. Ok LN

    I got a query.

In Reflected. When Eva went to see Dr Petersen on the Thursday Nathan got murdered. The Dr said Gideon didn't make his appointment on the Tuesday page 257. Two appointments missed that week.

In Entwined Gideon said he only missed one appointment, page 77. Eva thought "when he killed Nathan"

Now the only thing I can think of is, that was when Gideon was moving to the apartment next door. Or could it be something else? What do you think.

Gideon actually blew off two appointments the week he killed Nathan. He missed his individual session on Tuesday and deliberately blew off the couples session on Thursday, promising to be there but not showing.

What he was letting Eva know in Entwined was that he never terminated his individual treatment with Dr. Petersen -- he was still undergoing therapy for the sexual trauma of his past and working on the very present problem of the parasomnia. Eva was thinking "the week he killed Nathan."

She'd naturally assumed that as part of his "abandoning" their relationship, he wasn't going to continue with individual treatment any more than he was going to with couples' therapy. The only reason he entered both was for her, for them, to make the relationship work. It made sense he'd think he had no more need for seeing Dr. Petersen now that he no longer was involved with her.

  24. The fun part of the chapter was the practically full-blown phone sex about the DB9.

"Your lack of respect for this vehicle's upholstery is appalling" (page 163) is the funniest line since the infamous B.O.B. phone conversation in Bared to You (pages 51-52). In fact, I was reminded of that conversation, the first time Gideon and Eva ever spoke on the phone, and her sassy line, "You definitely have the voice for phone sex, but I've got to go. I have a date with my v.i.b.r.a.t.o.r. .... and Gideon's response "What will it take to talk you into a threesome with B.O.B.?"

  25. Gideon tends to avoid discussing his having killed Nathan unless necessary. But here, with the murder investigation taking its biggest twist since Detective Shelley Graves leaked to Eva the killer was Gideon, he and Eva again find themselves having to discuss something they've mostly skirted around since the night they got back together.

"Will I let someone else pay for my crime?" Gideon says on page 160. Yet another admittance he did it.

This chapter's development -- word that police are looking at another suspect -- proves to me that Graves lied to Eva about dropping the investigation. They most certainly haven't.

It also reinforces for me they have been feeding Gideon's lawyers a lie that he's not a suspect or even a person of interest. If he truly wasn't either, then why are they even bothering to inform his lawyers about the development? Technically, if the police actually had "ruled" him out, then they have no business telling his legal team anything about the case, period. The cops should have sent Gideon and his lawyers on their way already - the "safe to come out" development Gideon originally had been waiting for, so he could dump Corrine and win Eva back.

Some sort of cat and mouse game is still going on. Cop's daughter that she is, Eva's gut is telling her, "I had the horrible feeling they were just trying to shake Gideon up. Shake me up. It that was the goal, it was working. At least on me." (page 157).
