  1. I've been thinking about a couple of things that were brought up earlier today.

Another reason I'm thinking something bad has happened to Megumi - I may not be remembering the sequence correctly, but I think when she called in sick the office person in charge said her voice sounded bad. That made me wonder if the call came from someone pretending to be her and disguising their voice.

If it really was Clancy who planted the bracelet, I think he would have been smart enough to realize the implications for Gideon; namely that if Gideon didn't know who had done it, it would be like a sword of Damocles hanging over him, and he'd have to fear blackmail or worse in the future. He'd always be wondering when the debt would be called in - or info given to police.

Clancy, after all has no shared history with Gideon, and I don't think Gideon would feel secure knowing Clancy knew what he 'd done. IMO Angus is the only one Gideon trust that much. I'm thinking, though, that Angus was ruled out for some reason. Can't remember why.

    Anyone know?

  2. I think marrying Giroux was another attempt on Corrine's part to make Gideon want her - breaking the engagement hadn't worked. I think Corrine was guilty of using Giroux, marrying him even though she knew Gideon was really who she wanted. I feel bad for the guy - I'm sure he eventually realized she didn't really love him. And Gideon said he was a pretty decent guy.

  3. I think that a lot of people have forgotten that when Brett first came back in the picture, Eva tried very hard to not see him and several times tried to go wait in the limousine. Her kissing Brett back after he grabbed her was a sudden impulse, caused perhaps by a lot of mixed emotions. Eva certainly didn't have more than a moment or two to think about or plan either Brett's or Gideon's likely reactions to it. Lunch with Brett was not planned and Eva certainly had every right to sit down in public with an old love and try to talk things over, maybe even apologize or whatever. And in that instance I'm sure she was also glad that Gideon was getting a taste of his own medicine.

I also think Eva' s self perception was being helped by Brett saying that he had always had feelings for her and had just been too immature to express them at the time. I think Eva was deeply hurt, almost traumatized by the way Brett treated her and hearing herself talked about to one of Brett's buddies. You can imagine how crudely he would have spoken. We know how guys can be. And Eva has said how desperately she tried to make Brett love and want her. She put everything she had into it. He definitely wasn't just one of the guys she took home for one night. I think she has all kinds of remnants left to deal with from that period and I'm glad she can maybe look back on that time period in a better frame of mind - at least with regard to her, perhaps, first love.

As for Brett, I think there's than a little of that Michael guy dynamic going on. He wants Eva bad, knowing she's taken, and then when he has her, he'll end up blowing hot and cold, especially when he's spending so much time on the road and surrounded by available women. Sure Eva is sending him some mixed signals, she's pretty confused all round right now. And, yes I think she'll still a little attracted to him on a physical level - she's a very physical person. But I don't think that means she doesn't love Gideon or would cheat with Brett. And, god, is she being pulled in a lot of different directions by a lot of different people.

  4. Hi Nrock,

Do you mean that by Gideon's father killing himself that is what was an unhappy demise to the marriage?  I just want to make sure that I understand.  Your clarification is greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

    Gigi,

I believe early on Gideon says something like his parents had been happy and everyone was happy, but then suddenly they were yelling and screaming at each other - obviously when the pyramid began crumbling. Don't you think Elizabeth would have been getting ready to leave/divorce him for his crimes? His suicide obviated the need for that. I can't believe any woman would want to hold on to memories of a marriage that ended in either of those ways. I myself went through an unhappy divorce and didn't want anything to do with my engagement ring. But I did save it for my daughter.

  5. Another thing I keep thinking about is even if Gideon's mother didn't believe her son had been abused, how the h e l l could she have allowed someone her son obviously disliked so much to keep working with him? She's twice da**ed in my opinion. Of course Gideon still has feelings for her - children can suffer terrible abuse at the hands of their own parents and still not want to be taken from them.

  6. Hi Fayeth,

I don’t think that Gideon would have stolen Elizabeth’s engagement ring.  I just wondered what he may have said to his mother to get his hands on it.  I don’t think that he would have asked her when he and Corinne were engaged.  Gideon describes that time in his life with a lot of distress and panic.  Somehow I don’t think that if what everyone has said is true and that that ring represented a really positive time in his life with his mother and father, I don’t think that Gideon would have given Corinne that ring.

Whether Gideon was willing to admit that to himself or not, on some level, he knew that a marriage with Corinne would have been a disaster and in the end he would have lost himself and a very precious rare memento of a happy time in his life.  What do you think?  What does everyone think?

    Gigi

I think given that Gideon's mother's marriage ended so unhappily, I would imagine the ring wouldn't hold much sentimental value for her. I wouldn't be surprised if she gave it to Gideon because it wasn't really appropriate for her to keep it and certainly not to wear it. And she wouldn't have saved it for Ireland because it didn't come from Ireland's father. She probably wouldn't have minded if Gideon gave it to Corinne, but she couldn't stand Eva and would have hated for her to have her ring.

  7. This is a question on a different topic.

I've been re-reading the part of the book where Gideon tells Eva about his abuser being Anne's brother-in-law, and I'm confused about the time line. So Lucas lied and Anne's brother really had done what Gideon said. And I get that's why Gideon had an affair with Anne, to pay him back. But when did Gideon threaten Anne's brother with exposure so he couldn't practice and committed suicide? Was this after his deal with Anne? Did Anne know about what her brother did? Could someone explain?

  8. Monica told Eva that it wasn't just a money problem that kept her with Stanton, but remember she said she didn't want to explain while Eva was upset. Eva immediately jumps on the evasiveness of Monica when she tells, Gideon I think it was, that Monica won't explain the problem to Eva while Eva is upset, but the problem is that Eva is upset because Monica won't explain the problem. I think there's a literary term for this kind of circular reasoning, but I can't remember it

  9. I think something's definitely wrong for Megumi. At least twice Eva tries and fails to get hold of her. When Eva asks her roommate, Lacy, it turns out she is out of town, so isn't available to check on her. There's a problem here.

I think Eva chose Tableau One because she knew Gideon would be aware of everything that went on there. Did she have another agenda subconsciously? Possibly, but remember that she wanted Arnoldo to like her. She said so to Gideon after the concert.

  10. Couple of things - one I think Eva's position changed even before Gideon came to her apt. I think he realized it when he called her and said, "You've got the advantage, state your demands." I can't see him letting himself be that submissive to any of his other f-buddies before - even if he just thinks he's toying with her.

Two - speaking of rationalizations, when Eva tells Cary she doesn't know the name of the sexy new neighbor, does she justify the lie by meaning the person playing the role (Gideon) hasn't given her the name of his persona? Doesn't seem like her.

  11. Sheens,

As you see from the above message, I have other computer deficiencies beside the iPad problem. I've never done this kind of forum discussion before and I haven't quite gotten the hang of replying - it seems to go in a different place each time!

Anyway, thank you so much for taking the time to write out the directions for me. If the book doesn't come tomorrow I'll try them out.

    Sweet dreams or day dreams!

  12. Hi

If you have Itunes/Ibooks, it is easy to dowload on your IPad, I have them all on Ipad and will be downloading it tomorrow on mine.

     Sheens,

Thank you very much for the directions. I've been meaning to find out how to do it. Never pushed myself because I still prefer to have a book right in my hot little hands when I read. :)

Go to Ibooks on your IPAD

    Go to Store

Search Sylvia Day or Entwined with you

    Find Book

    Hit - Pre Order

it will then store your pre-order and will let you know when it is ready to download.

Once downloaded it will go into your Library on your Ibooks.

    I hope this helps

    :D

  13. no it takes a few days for Amazon to ship it out, the downloaded versions will be coming through on 4th but the paperbacks will not be released until June 6th in UK and June 4th US so it will take a couple of days to post out, I hope this helps

    No! It doesn't help!!! :)

I may have to buy a copy at my local bookstore and then I'll have 2. Unless I can figure out how to get it on my iPad.

  14. I think we are getting a bit frayed round the edges now.

I'm feeling a little frustrated, too, hearing about the people who have the book and are writing about it. So I thought I'd tell you all a story that might make you grin a little.

I've been desperate for something to read while waiting for Entwined, so I called up my local book store to see if they had the first in the Blackstone series - it has been recommended by some people here. I asked them to hold it so I could come in and pick it up - discretely. I am in my sixties after all and a little shy about asking for something like this. So I went to the front desk and while there were only two people there, quietly asked for the book I had on hold. I tried to say it was Book 1 in the Blackstone series, but they couldn't find it. So then they got someone to look it up on the computer, and he called out to the desk that the book I was looking for was called Naked. So then there was a discussion about where it had been put. Meanwhile lots of other customers were waiting, and the two clerks kept saying did anyone remember holding a book called Naked, and when had I called, etc.

I guess I'll stick to amazon from now on when I want to order naughty books. I know I should end this post with a blushing smiley face, but I can't remember where they are. You'll just have to make your own mental image of me, red faced, waiting to pay for my book!

  15. One thing I keep thinking about when we're hashing over clueless Gideon bumbling around, hurting people left and right, is the sacrifice he made for Eva. Not only did he risk losing her love, because after all, killing a person is unthinkable for most people - even if you say I wish someone was dead, you know you couldn't really do it. Gideon would have considered there was a real possibility Eva would not have been able to get over what he had done - even if on some level she was grateful - he would have lost her.

The other risk was the real possibility that something could have gone wrong, however perfectly he tried to plan it. Anyone as smart as Gideon would know that life (and literature) are full of stories of the best laid plans going terribly wrong. And, in fact, his whole scheme is dangerously close to unravelling.

And my point is that Gideon must have accepted the possibility that there was some chance that, worst case scenario, he could face a prison sentence.

Accepting those two possible outcomes - prison and/or loss of Eva was about the biggest sacrifice I can imagine anyone making. I think we should cut him some slack for screwing up with related issues, while trying to save himself.
