I say we just go with Crossfire Vodka you know nothing like a little vodka to put fire in your belly... I have to agree I never liked the name Kingsman either although it does sound like its supposed to be a cheaper brand remember Eva's take on it in the meeting "luxury on a budget".

That's a perfect name. I didn't have any good ones in mind - just trying to think of something simple and stark like ice or blue or silk or something. Cranberry and Crossfire sounds delish! Maybe you can go work with Eva at Waters Field and Leaman!

I've often thought that. They only read the words. They don't go deeper into the story.

Three compliments one and two perfectly. Romantic with a bit of excitement and angst and.......more!

What really seems strange to me is how so many people were angered by the extra books being planned. I love getting deeper into the different people and seeing the development of their characters and the webs of connection. To me one of the hallmarks of the best novels and movies, is they have engaging secondary characters and back stories. And I look forward to learning their stories and I want to see good things happening in their lives. Think of all the vivid "extras" SD has created: Mark, Steve, Shawna, Martin, Angus, Clancy , Megumi, Cary, Trey, Victor, Ireland, and some of the more problematic like, Monica, Elizabeth, Brett, Magdalena, and of course the bad guys we dislike so intensely. Even Daniel at the gym has a lively spark to him.

He wants Eva to need him. He wants to be wanted, he needs to be needed. His parents left him feeling unloved, and unwanted. That's part of the crux of his problem. The little boy in him feels like he doesn't belong. He needs and wants Eva to need and want him. Simple.

This is a pretty minor comment, but if I were Mark and Eva I think I would would try to get the folks at CI to re-brand their vodka. There's something about the name "Kingsman" that sounds kind of "downmarket" to me. Maybe that's just me. Also it's getting a little scary that there's nothing too trivial for me to start getting worked up about in these books. . Maybe I need a vacation from them - but then there would be withdrawal pains I'm sure. :(

I have read your comments and your theories are plausible.  I can see where you are coming from and it is important to have a balanced perspective when dealing with a subject. I am glad that you are willing to take up for Brett.  It helps to make for a balanced forum.   I am always up for a spirited debate!

• Your point about Brett having convinced him that he was in love with Eva in a way proves my point.  Brett never said that he loved Eva (at least we don’t have any documented written evidence thus far ).
• Brett never even treated Eva with common courtesy or respect.  In fact we the readers get the impression of just the opposite which is evidenced by what Eva said to Brett about why she finally decided that she had had enough.  Brett was gossiping to one of his mates about what a good lay Eva was (which in effect was labeling Eva as nothing more than a wh*re).
• The fact that Brett could say something so inappropriately intimate to a woman that he hasn’t seen in years is disrespectful of Eva as a human being.
• When someone walks out of a relationship; all favours, suggestions and intimations of personal intimacies are revoked.
• Brett never said that he missed Eva’s laughter or the way she smiled or how she was compassionate with people.  The only thing that Brett ever referenced was se* and he didn’t even reference whether it was pleasurable for Eva.  The only person that Brett talked about or cared about was Brett.
• Brett went straight to se* and nothing else.  In my book, that person isn’t entitled to pass GO and collect $200 (as the Monopoly saying goes).

 

Now as for the Gideon thing, we are talking about two separate issues.  Eva wasn’t entertaining a relationship with Brett.  She was entertaining a relationship with Gideon.  At the end of the day, Eva was the one who would ultimately decide if she was going to be in a relationship and how she was going to be treated (which was corrected when Eva no longer was willing to entertain just a se*ual arrangement with Gideon).

 

What Gideon did was not right, but Eva ultimately corrected that situation with Gideon.    It is exactly like you said; Brett has fame, fortune and all the se* that he can want, I am sure that this rock star will find someone else soon enough. 

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. Wish we could get it settled sooner than the fall.

Gigi and Gabri- On p 299 in RIY EV says Christopher is her son, he was there, and he swore nothing happened. But I think Gideon also refers to it somewhere else.

Okay here comes my tape scenario and then I'll sit back and wait hopefully for the great reveal this fall (Please Sylvia don't make us wait until #5)

Sam was spurned by the professionals hired by Vidal Records. (Remember Eva refers rather scathingly to him as "the band's wannabe videographer). They're not interested in his collection of backstage exploits or possibly getting involved with legal issues. They use professional actors and take their time to do a romantic and sexy video.

Brett may or may not know about Sam's collection but I think he would have blown any of Sam's suggestions off not expecting him to take it any further.

With a major chip on his shoulder, Sam decides to approach Christopher in his capacity as Vidal Records head. He might have either wanted to sell it knowing it could be good publicity for VR, or blackmail VR into suppressing it because it would spoil the other one.

Chris turns him down, but steers him to other places that would be interested.

Chris saw an opportunity for profitable notoriety in the situation and also jumped the chance of stabbing Gideon in the back. Win win opportunity. He contacts Deanna knowing she's also after Gideon. Deanna gets on the story, now knowing something about Gideon's feelings for Eva and how it would hurt him

However, when Gideon, prompted by Eva, apologizes to Deanna for his behavior, she softens towards him, (how could she not?) and tries to please him by letting him know what's in store about the tape.

So there's my plot. Hope I don't end up at the crow table!

The way I've read or heard that word used in UK situations was not so much in the anatomical sense Gideon uses it, but more like guys calling each other that like "come on you stupid c**ts, let's get on with it!" Sort of like here slapping your buddies and calling them as*sholes or jerks. Hope I'm not going on too much about this - I very interested in slang and idiom. And a raging Anglophile.

I've just had a vision of Gideon frothing at the mouth! And you with your bar of soap, which I agree, they both need. Their chat up lines stink, but then I'm of the older generation! but I'm not past it.

Eva has definitely sent Brett mixed signals, there's no doubting that. But Brett doesn't know of her reasons for doing what and why she did, all those years ago. He never got to know her, it was just sex to him. There was no dating, getting to know each other. And she put out, hoping to feel love and be loved. What man wouldn't take it, when its handed on a plate to him. Eva herself admitted she wanted to be the best that he got , so he wouldn't go with anyone else. He may have feelings for her but its not love.

The tape can't just show Eva having sex with Brett , there has to be shots of Brett in this encounter. How does he feel, knowing that he has been caught with his pants down! If Sam is using the tape, editing it, Brett must be in it too. This tape is good publicity for the song and the band. Brett's street cred will pull in a lot more groupies! If Brett doesn't know about it(but I think he does) and Chris is 100% in the know, I will eat a portion of crow pie! Again! Some of my theories suck! Hahaha!

The bar of soap wasn't my idea, but never mind -Gideon and soap makes for a nice fantasy. Re language, I had more trouble with Gideon's use of c**t than anything else. But coming from G I got used to it quickly. I'm aware there was a pun in that last sentence, but it would be beneath me to mention it. I understand from the British publications and novels I read that the c word does not have the same level of shock value as it does in the US. It tops the list here.

You are absolutely correct in your statement.  The video for Golden was based on the lyrics of the song.  I am not crucifying Brett based on the video.  I am lambasting that Horn dog Extraordinaire for his filthy mouth (i.e. the way he has spoken to Eva in the past) and his less than honourable actions.

 

You are correct.  I will not crucify a man for something he may or may not have done.  I will withhold judgment on that transgression.  I will however wash that boy’s mouth out with soap for how he has been conducting himself thus far.  

 

Now someone be a dear please and get me that bar of SOAP!!!

I seem to be assuming the Defender of Brett role - which is funny because he's not my type at all.

Here we go: I don't think he was responsible for the tape. I think the line is either Sam-CV-Deanna or Sam-Deanna-CV.

I think he's honestly convinced himself that he's in love with Eva. And for what ever reasons, and I know there are excuses because of prior history, he is being jerked around by Eva. The messages and signals she has been giving him are mixed, to say the least.

As for his filthy mouth, I'm not sure that wishing he could be inside Eva again and reminding her of some enjoyable sexual encounters, is that out of line. As far as he remembers Eva really enjoyed what they did and that probably included sex talk. And she certainly enjoys blunt and "dirty" talk with Gideon.

Did Brett walk up to Eva, without even knowing her, mind you, and say, "Are you sleeping with anyone at the moment? I want to fu ck you and I'd like to know if there's anyone in the way." And "I don't want to date you, but I've got a whole lots of ways I can make you come." If anyone was in needed a bar of soap...

But if I had Gideon and a bar of soap - that's not what I'd be doing. Sigh...

I think we should give poor Brett a break. He's lost Eva and all he has left to comfort him is rock stardom, hordes of sexy groupies, world travel, and lots of money.

I guess he'll survive without my advocacy. :)
