  1. In hindsight, I wonder just how far back in the story Magdalene first starting making amends to Gideon for having been such a b**** to Gideon's new girlfriend -- and who all along was keeping Gideon's best interests in mind?

    Timeline:

    • Saturday night: Gideon and Eva's first date, the advocacy center event, where Magdalene was there too. When Magdalene got her first look at Eva, Gideon already was on his head trip and being a cold jerk. Magdalene guessed correctly he'd already f***** Eva. Think about his long history of immediately throwing sex partners onto the reject pile coupled with how he was treating Eva at the event itself. The man even ditched Eva to leave early by himself. That was bad. What else was Magdalene going to assume, but that he was done with Eva and was already trying to avoid Eva. So Magdalene attacked Eva. Sure, part of the motive was obviously Maggie being mad that Eva and not herself got to be Gideon's date that night. But what if Magdalene also was doing her friend Gideon a service by trying to run off Eva so that Eva didn't start stalking Gideon at social gatherings like Anne Lucas had done?
    • Monday lunchtime: Gideon convinced Eva to become his full-fledged girlfriend. During lunch, Eva told him exactly what Maggie had snarked to her. Gideon immediately chilled (sign of him getting mad) and promised he'd take care of Maggie. It's safe to assume he called Maggie that afternoon, and given how scared he was about his ability to hold onto Eva, probably chewed Maggie out.
    • Tuesday dinnertime: Gideon went to a business dinner alone while Eva kept her promise to have a pizza night with Cary and Cary's new boyfriend, Trey. Maggie ran into him at the restaurant and they talked outside afterward -- him about Eva, and Maggie looking pleased (Happy for him? Having already apologized to him on Monday and had her apology accepted?) Some paparazzi got a shot of them together on the sidewalk, though, looking friendly and the next day, there was gossip speculation about an Eva-Gideon-Maggie love triangle.
    • Wednesday lunchtime: Eva was furious he'd talked to Maggie, the woman who had been so mean to her. Meanwhile, he was paranoid about the gossip speculation of a Gideon-Eva-Cary love triangle. This is when Gideon and Eva fought in public near Bryant Park, a fight caught on video and in pictures. So that too fueled the fire.
    • Thursday daytime: Maggie made her failed attempt to see Eva, showing up unannounced at Eva's office. Eva arranged for someone on Gideon's staff to fetch Maggie instead, and Megumi reported Maggie was furious about it. What if Maggie's real purpose had been to get Gideon off the hook about that picture of her (Maggie) and him on Tuesday night? Or what if Maggie was worried about Eva upsetting Gideon so much on Wednesday that he actually dropped his public mask and argued with a woman in public? Coincidentally, this particular Thursday was the day on which Gideon sent Eva the Dear Jane note, but there's no way Maggie would have known about it.
    • Sunday daytime: The garden party at the Vidal estate. Maggie, longtime friend of the Vidals, was there. Eva showed up without Gideon. Then Gideon remarkably showed up, completely of character, and immediately started fighting with Eva, literally dragging her off. Maggie hoping they'd already broken up and Gideon was mad that Eva was pulling stalker stuff? But then Maggie walked in on that HAWT make-up sex in the library. And ended up weeping to Creepy Christopher that she believed Gideon was in love with Eva.
    • Fast forward to the fundraiser Corrine crashed: Maggie immediately latched onto Eva. Was Maggie possibly trying to head off a public scene between Eva and Gideon, like Bryant Park? And when Maggie found out how clueless Eva was about Corrine, decided to forewarn Eva. Maggie was a witness to the first conversation between Eva and Corrine, the one in which Corrine already was playing mindgames. Then during dinner, Maggie sat one table over in order to eavesdrop on the entire drama unfolding at Gideon's table.
    • Next morning: Maggie phoned Eva at work to get Gideon off the hook for his having been stupid enough to let Corrine monopolize him at dinner the night before. So Maggie was protecting Gideon. All along, he'd been trying to head off Corrine messing with Eva. Maggie also reinforced the fact that Gideon truly has been treating Eva differently than any other woman in all the long years Maggie has known Gideon. Yet more amends by Maggie for having treated Eva so badly the first time they met?

I don't think Magdalene fully accepted Gideon was in love with Eva and she didn't have a chance with him and it was time to move on until she walked in on them in the library. She might have realised something was different about this relationship before that, but I think it was at that point she decided it was time to move on.

Another motivator for her during the following week was Corinne's return, but if you think about it, Magdalene had already cut her hair before she knew Corinne was back. She'd decided it was time for a new look and a new start.

Later, during the dinner she realised that the fact that Corinne was back was irrelevant, Eva was the one Gideon wanted. She also realised that she had a chance to make amends with Eva for the first time they'd met by telling her Corinne's game plan the night before.

  2. I'm not sure that Elizabeth would have told Corrine what Eva really said to her (Elizabeth.) That would raise some questions in Corrine's mind. Any intelligent person would at least be somewhat suspicious of a comment like that. Elizabeth would do anything to keep the ugly truth quiet. include lying to herself.

Agree completely Elizabeth would tell no-one the details of that conversation - she didn't even discuss it with Gideon. But likewise Corinne has elements of her 'chat' with Eva that she wouldn't be forthcoming about. We know for a fact she rang Gideon immediately after Eva left (he says as much when he catches up with her at Lucas' office) but whatever she says to him she clearly leaves out the little stunt she just pulled.

  3. Her grudge cant just disappear with money. I dont think we're done with Deanna any time soon

But this is what I can't figure out, if she hasn't forgiven Gideon / is still harbouring a grudge, why tell him about the sex tape? Its release would hurt both Eva & Gideon and she'd get revenge by seeing them hurt & embarrassed by the media... I just can't work out her agenda at all...

  4. Disrespect away, Julie -- as a former journalist, I'm the first one to say there's a lot of snakes in the profession. Kinda like lawyers: tread carefully around them ;)

The larger the news market, the more cut-throat they are, none more so than in New York City and Los Angeles. Television journalists are the worst - most of them are hired for their charisma, not their brains. Newspaper people (I used to be one) snark about TV people, saying stuff like "Dumb blondes come in all hair colors and both sexes". Next to the worst are freelancers, because for them it purely IS about the money, NOT any sort of sense of idealism. Weigh ethics up against money, and most of the time money will win out for a freelancer.

Right now, the reason Deanna is in Camp Cross is because there's a lot of $$$$$$$ in it. But once Gideon does give her those wedding photos, he's going to have to figure out some other way to control Deanna next. Eva's right -- he's "watering the weed". He needs weed control.

So do you think once she's made her money on the wedding photos her desire for revenge will return? Or is she trying to get Gideon back in bed?

  5. The timing may be too tight for this, but I've always wondered if magdalene was the one who let Corinne know there was a rival on the horizon. Of course this wouldn't have helped Maggie's situation with regard to catching Gideon. She may seem or be nice, but I think she's still a manipulator. What else did she have to do, besides lunch?

I don't think this is likely. First of all, Magdalene wants Gideon for herself at this point so she wouldnt encourage Corinne to return to NY. Also Magdalene only learns of Eva's existence at this event and she considers Gideon and Eva finished by the end of the night - he'd stuck his in her so he was done - she recognised the signs...

  6. Deanna told Eva that Gideon made her feel like a who.re . He took a call while they were in the middle of doing the deed. I think Gideon grovelled a bit and let her know that he was a jerk and she didn't deserve to be treated that way. As they talked Deanna shared the information that would embarrass Gideon & Eva.

So do you think she's forgiven him and now just wants to be a friend? Is that why she's helping? How come she waited for Eva to be away from the table before approaching Gideon? Eva likened her to a snake sliding in while her back was turned.

  7. I think Gideon let Arnoldo know that something came up and he wouldn't be at the restaurant. I also think that Gideon asked Arnoldo to keep an eye on Brett & Eva.

Arnoldo let Brett know that Eva was important to Gideon. Brett said she is important to me too. Arnoldo then said "may the best man win" Eva responded "I'm not a prize. Or I should say: I'm no prize." She felt Arnoldo didn't disagree with her.

It soon dawned on Arnoldo that Eva wasn't happy. He knew that Eva wasn't enjoying herself because he noted that she loves to eat and she hardly touched her food. He also noted that Brett wasn't aware of this love of food and, therefore, didn't know Eva that well.

If it's true that Gideon let Arnoldo know that something had come up and he wouldn't be at the restaurant - this is what bugs me about Gideon. If he had time to let Arnoldo know he wasn't going to make dinner, he had time to text Eva & let her know what was going on.

Instead he leaves her panicking about his reaction to the Golden video for several hours!

Likewise when he buggered off to California to sort out the sex tape - all that required was a simple 2min phone call - sorry something urgent has come up in California, I'll be back tomorrow, we'll talk then.

I would kill my husband if he pulled crap like that on me especially after what had just happened at the hospital!!

  8. I can't figure out Deanna at all...

Why did she suddenly start gunning for Gideon when she did? When was their night together? You would assume shortly before Eva came on the scene, but why does it take her approximately 2 months to start approaching Magdalene etc?

Would an apology really make her stop targeting Gideon after what he'd done? Yes probably if she wanted another shot at him. What doesn't make sense in that scenario though is her sharing the information about the sex tape. Surely you could assume its release would cause a rift between Gideon & Eva which Deanna could try to exploit.

However, telling Gideon about the sex tape helps to get her on his good side, maybe thats her angle. I just cant figure out her agenda at all. What does everyone else think?

  9. With regards Graves I'm wondering whether she does have a soft spot for Eva and Gideon and is still rooting for them. If I was a cop and saw pictures and dealt with a per.vert like Nathan I wouldn't care if he had been murdered, she even said previously that Nathan's ultimate plan was to eventually kill Eva!

I'm wondering if when Graves said to Eva to keep thinking about the bracelet that it wasn't a threat as such but more a warning that someone else knows that Gideon killed Nathan and because Graves doesn't know who the person is or what their intentions are that Eva should still be weary. We are all hopeful that whoever dealt with Nathan and made the links to the mafia is on Gidevas side but maybe Graves is more pessimistic than us!!

I agree completely, this was my exact thoughts regarding the conversation with Graves.

  10. I felt it was when Gideon was seen with Eva, Corrine realised that she still loved Gideon and probably her marriage was not doing to good before that and this made her come back to the USA. I think deep down Corrine thought that as soon as Gideon saw her again he would dump Eva and want her back, I think she felt she had that strong a hold on him as he never married after she left him.

The first night Gideon and Eva are seen in public together, Corinne rings Gideon from France to say her marriage is over and to ask for his help getting settled in NY. The pictures of Gideon and Eva wouldn't have been online until the next day, therefore Eva is not the reason Corinne decided to end her marriage and come back and fight for Gideon. That decision was made before she learnt of Eva's existance.

  11. I think the main difference between Corinne and Magdalene is that Magdalene knows who Gideon really is. They've been friends for a long time and she knows and loves the real man.

Corinne is in love with a figment of her imagination, whether its because of their sexual relationship or not I don't know. But Corinne doesn't know the true Gideon. She hears what she wants to hear when he speaks, she doesn't understand his true character because if she did she'd have realised a long time ago that he never really loved her.

Corinne has been married for X years to JFG, a man who truly loved her, yet in her head he doesn't love her at all.

She doesn't see what's right in front of her face and I'm starting to think she never has. Maybe I was wrong before, maybe she is delusional.

  12. JFG is right to be angry at Gideon for having given Corrine false hopes. Gideon allowed him and Corrine to repeatedly be photographed together under circumstances that would lead anyone to believe there was something going on between them -- and never once did Gideon publicly deny all the rumors. Gideon himself admitted he let even Corrine herself draw her own conclusions it's possible they were headed toward couplehood. He obviously allowed people all around them to draw the same conclusions -- including possibly JFG's own in-laws.

For his own desperate reasons, Gideon manipulated Corrine into playing a certain role -- and in doing so, fed her craziness. Then without warning, he yanked the rug out from under her feet and started avoiding her as much as possible. Mr. Clueless yet again totally underestimating how much women read into his actions -- good and bad -- from Anne Lucas to Deanna Johnson to Eva herself.

Totally agree, JFG has every right to be mad at Gideon for his actions here. What I meant was him believing that Gideon had been manipulating Corinne to return to NY and being angry with him for that. A simple google search would have told him that Gideon was involved with Eva before Corinne showed up in NY so he was hardly trying to woo her away from her marriage and back to him. In that matter Gideon is not the one to blame - Corinne is.

  13. I think Magdalene has seen the light finally. I think part of her reason for talking to Eva that day was to warn her about Deanna and gauge how she would handle her.

But I think a large part of it was her trying to make amends with Eva by telling her Corinne was out of the picture.

I think she realises that Gideon wants Eva and will eventually get her, and if she wants to continue her friendship with him she needs to become friends with Eva.

Magdalene has known Gideon a long time and if she truly loves him she wants what is best for him. Because of the length of their friendship she knows he has never been happier than when he is with Eva.

  14. Hi Gigi

As much as Gideon loathes or is repulsed(for what reason we don't know yet, apart from her not believing him over his abuse) by his mother, he has stated that the reason he bailed out Vidal records, was because he didn't want her to be in financial crisis ever again. He would dismantle Chris jnr first. He(Gideon)still honours possibly loves his mother. It's his little touches making him vulnerable, that say so much. Still a little boy in big boys clothes, but a lot of healing to be done.

I agree Gideon doesn't want his mother hurt by another financial crisis, however there is no way he would protect her from such a thing at the expense of Eva! Gideon as the majority shareholder could probably demand Christopher Jr be fired if he started playing games like that, with the threat that he will sell his shares to another label & Vidal Records would be no more.

  15. My guess is what really infuriated JFG was seeing pictures of Gideon "dating" Corrine and reading all sorts of wild stories that Gideon and Corrine were reunited.

I wonder whether he has originally been placing the blame for his marriage failing where it belonged -- with Corrine holding a torch for Gideon. But now, suddenly, JFG was shifting the blame to Gideon. Could it be that Gideon had been wrecking the Giroux marriage from afar in order to lure Corrine back?

Deanna believed that Gideon used Eva to make Corrine jealous enough to come running back to him. Why wouldn't some other people also assume that to be the case -- including JFG? In which case, he'd look at Gideon as a manipulative homewrecker.

I see what you mean, and I agree thats probably whats going on in JFG's head before he meets Eva. However, once he sees Gideon & Eva together, he acknowledges to Eva that Gideon is different with her. At this point its likely he shifted the blame back to where it belonged - his wife. Between his interactions with Gideon & Eva he likely realises Corinne is the one causing problems because they both seem solid. He won't acknowledge this to himself for a while though now Corinne has lost the baby. It's easier to blame Gideon than accept both Corinne and his own failures in this sad tale.

  16. The biggest issue I have with believing Corinne is several months into divorce proceedings is that, she has been holding a candle for Gideon all these years, she has finally decided to end her marriage and try to get him back. If that's her priority, every minute she spends away from him is a minute he might meet someone else. The impression I always got from the first 2 books was that she immediately ran to Gideon when her marriage ended.

It's not like she needs to have the divorce finalised before she can start dating Gideon again. Plenty of people divorce while residing in different countries and it wouldn't have required that many trips to finalise.

  17. I'm also now thinking about the exact thing Magdalene told Eva when gossiping about what Gideon told her (Maggie) about Corrine.

"He's told Corrine that it's best if they remain long-distance friends, rather than social ones. But I suspect you already know that." (page 82)

I read into that three things:

    • Gideon urged Corrine to go back to her husband in France.
    • Gideon made clear he no longer would in-person socialize with Corrine anymore.
    • Maggie correctly guessed why Gideon no longer would go near Corrine (where the risk was he might be get photographed). Gideon must be trying to get Eva back - had in fact already made some sort of overture to Eva.
I think Maggie was as much checking out her hunch, when she immediately went from Gideon's office to Eva's, as Maggie was double-checking that Eva wasn't still so hurt by his having been taking out Corrine that she rejected any gestures of reconciliation -- and worse, was a scorned woman out to get even by helping Deanna Johnson.

Gotta love Megumi's crack afterward. She'd been hoping for an Eva-Maggie catfight. But there was "No scratching or hissing." (page 83). Love this!

Another clue for Magdalene that Gideon and Eva had reconciled was the black magic roses in Gideon's office that day. The last time (that we know of) Maggie was in Gideon's office, she was eating lunch surrounded by Eva's flowers.

  18. I would have to reread it but wasn't he wearing the wedding ring when he was at the hospital. The engagement ring would stand out (at the event) because it was Lizzy's. Everyone wants to look at the brides rings and not the man's ring.

Yes I think he was. Given his comments about his promise ring in RIY when he says he never takes it off and never will, I think we can safely assume the same is true of his wedding ring.

  19. I'm not sure that any of the Vidal's know about the sex tape. It is likely that Christopher knows about the fight between Gideon and Brett, and we know that he knows Eva is Golden - Christopher may have told his mother that Eva is now dating Brett but Gideon was trying to get her back at the Times Sq event.

If Elizabeth knows about the fight between Gideon and Brett (and the reason behind it) this could explain her comment.

I really dont see Gideon sharing the information with any of the Vidal's about the sex tape, and he currently has a temporary ban on anyone releasing it or releasing any information about the court proceedings. How would they know about it? The guy who's trying to sell it would have been approaching media outlets to sell it not the record company.

  20. Good point. I hadnt thought of that scenario for how she got pregnant and I agree its plausible. Though, something about JFG's anger towards Gideon makes me believe this is a more recent break up, also the fact that he still seems somewhat hopeful that he might have a chance of winning Corinne back. If they were several months into a divorce I imagine he might have been more resigned to the fact he had lost her and have started to move on.

I disagree however, that Corinne was incapable of rational thought by the time she left France. All of her interactions with Eva, namely the 2 times she tried to convince her she'd been F(&^*** Gideon, she had very little time on both of those occasions to think about how to act, and yet she took advantage of both occasions in a very calculated way to make Eva jealous. Both times she makes a lightning fast decision to turn the situation to her advantage and can think clearly enough to formulate a plan almost instantly. That doesn't strike me as irrational, desperate maybe but not irrational.

I must say I am really enjoying discussing and learning others views and ideas. Its great reading other peoples take on certain scenes and opens up a different way of thinking that may not have occurred.

  21. Hi Rogue,

I'm not saying Corrine could get Gideon actually might have accomplished getting Gideon to the altar that fast (by week 12). The woman was pulling crazy desperate stuff. But I could see her trying.

Especially if Corrine's divorce back in France was on the verge of being finalized. We know from what Magdalene said about them getting divorced that the proceedings themselves were underway. I'm wondering whether Corrine was still based in France as the summer started was so she could be immediately available for court hearings and for signing necessary documents. To do whatever she could to speed things along as quickly as possible.

But if -- IF -- she was trying to play the Gideon-knocked-her-up card, she needed to move things along in New York as fast as possible too. Have him ready to elope with her the instant the ink dried on her divorce decree. With each passing week, she got closer and closer and closer to starting to "show" -- that'd be a dead giveaway she was months into a pregnancy, not weeks.

I still go back and forth on whether she knew she was in early pregnancy when she suddenly decided to call upon Gideon to get her settled in New York as fast as possible. When she made that decision, she booked her flight and called up Gideon to say essentially "I'm on my way, meet me at the airport." THAT'S when Corrine found out Gideon had just fallen for a new woman he met that very week. Eva wasn't the initial trigger for the move -- something else made Corrine throw caution to the wind and start stalking Gideon in New York itself.

If she did know she was carrying JFG's baby, I think she had no intention whatsoever of going through with the pregnancy. Bearing JFG's child would greatly lessen her desperate move to become Mrs. Gideon Cross. I think she planned to bail out of the pregnancy as soon as it served it's purpose -- thus taking medication didn't matter. She wasn't going to go through with carrying the baby anyway, so possible birth defects were a non-issue.

Ok I get where you're coming from. Although based on the fact she was pregnant and JFGs reactions in EWY, my personal belief is that the marriage fell apart shortly before she headed to NY and they were not particularly far into the divorce. Why would you still be sleeping with someone when you're months into divorce proceedings?

Something else to consider though... we know Gideon is a dominant, and we're fairly sure from Corinne's words in Bared about his possessiveness that this was the role he took in their relationship also - in fact some have even speculated that he collared Corinne. Anyway knowing that about him how would she hope to convince him this child was his? If he took the dominant role he would insist upon attending ultrasounds and being fully aware of all aspects of this pregnancy.

Or are you saying you dont believe Corinne to be capable of rational thought by the time she decides to leave France?

Maybe its because of my nature - I over think EVERYTHING - but I find it hard to believe schemers dont at least consider the possible outcomes of their actions.

  22. Explains the sudden desperate stunts in New York somewhere in the neighborhood of week 6-7. And how frantic she became by the time she reached the fourth month.

By month four, no longer would she be able to pass of the pregnancy as early for however many weeks it would take to rush through her already-in-progress divorce proceedings in France and then actually spring the trap on Gideon by getting him to go through with saying "I do." Soon, she was going to start showing - hard enough for a slender woman to disguise clothed and even harder to disguise nude.

Also, when she entered month four, she'd waited too long to get easy access to abortion. Finding a hospital or clinic willing to terminate a pregnancy past the first trimester is very hard in the United States, where hospitals and clinics are run by the private sector, not through a national government health system. If she was going to go the "I miscarried" route, she needed to set herself a deadline of under 12 weeks for bailing out of the scheme.

Because if it was true she knew about the baby, I don't think she had any intention of keeping JFG's child. She only needed the pregnancy long enough to convince Gideon she actually was impregnated. Once she actually became Mrs. Cross and was safe-guarded from being summarily dumped, she could get rid of the baby.

But if she didn't come back to NY until week 6-7, how could she possibly be married to Gideon by week 12?!

Granted if she'd slept with him shortly after arriving she might be able to convince him that he'd 'knocked her up' (though I still don't think she'd have had much luck convincing him he was 100% the father and making him feel that obligated to her especially if she 'lost' the baby a few weeks later) as I've said before he would know at the first ultrasound and Gideon is the type of man who checks the facts of a situation before making decisions. Corinne must know this. She doesn't know a lot of things about him, but that part of him is in his very nature, it's one of the things that makes him such a good businessman. Is she crazy probably, delusional maybe but she's not stupid - no-one schemes like Corinne does and doesn't consider the pitfalls they are likely to encounter. I just think we are so desperate to hate her that we are all automatically assuming the worst about her. Don't get me wrong I think she's a scheming manipulative b**** but there's a limit surely? Risking a baby to take anti-depressants? attempting suicide over a man while knowing your pregnant and not just risking your life but the life of your child? Is she really that heartless? What she's done to Eva to try and get Gideon back is pretty horrible but this... this is a whole other level....

ETA: Especially if the suicide attempt is all another manipulative stunt to get Gideon back!

  23. I took it as he meant " I don't mastar**** anymore" as in since he met Eva he no longer does it. He always says about his sem** that "every drop is hers" which makes me think he regards it as sacred now he is with Eva! He also says the only time he got himself off since he met her was when he was in the shower with her!

Before he met Eva it was just a normal daily function for him but now he views all forms of se.x.u.a.l actIvity as sacred!

    Does that make sense?

Perfect sense. That's exactly what I thought he meant too :)

  24. I've been thinking about a couple of things that were brought up earlier today.

Another reason I'm thinking something bad has happened to Megumi - I may not be remembering the sequence correctly, but I think when she called in sick the office person in charge said her voice sounded bad. That made me wonder if the call came from someone pretending to be her and disguising their voice.

If it really was Clancy who planted the bracelet, I think he would have been smart enough to realize the implications for Gideon; namely that if Gideon didn't know who had done it, it would be like a sword of Damocles hanging over him, and he'd have to fear blackmail or worse in the future. He'd always be wondering when the debt would be called in - or info given to police.

Clancy, after all has no shared history with Gideon, and I don't think Gideon would feel secure knowing Clancy knew what he 'd done. IMO Angus is the only one Gideon trust that much. I'm thinking, though, that Angus was ruled out for some reason. Can't remember why.

    Anyone know?

But if Angus had done it he would have told Gideon for the same reasons you've stated. Gideon has Angus and Raul investigating who it might have been. Surely Angus would have come forward at that point and said "you can stop worrying it was me. Put it behind you and move on."

Clancy on the other hand, as you said yourself, doesnt have a personal relationship with Gideon. In fact I don't think he did it for Gideon, i think he did it for Eva, to protect the man she loved as he had failed to protect Cary.

Clancy may not even be aware that Gideon is investigating who covered up his crime. Eva certainly never discussed it with him.

I think if Gideon were to find out that Clancy was the one to cover up Nathan's murder he would feel secure enough. He would realise he had done it to protect Eva and would probably realise he didnt have any agenda with regard to blackmail. I think he'd probably hire Clancy away from Stanton as Eva's personal bodyguard.
