  1.

    Hi Sheens & Ladies,

On number 11 of the Master List is a copy of Raine Millers Books:

    1. Raine Miller:  The Blackstone Affair (A dominant alpha male British, 32 & an American Girl, 24, meeting over a naked photo)
    • Naked
    • All In
    • Eyes Wide Open
    • The Muse (TBR…)
    • Prequels:
    • His Perfect Passion (1)
    • The Undoing of Libertine (2)

I would like to correct the information above.  First I would like to say that I am a HUGE fan of Raine Miller's and enjoyed reading the Blackstone Affair books so much, that I went and read her historical pieces (or prequels, as they are mentioned above) which I also loved, even though historical pieces are not typically my favorites.

The 4th book in the Blackstone Affair is actually a standalone book and it is NOT The Muse.  The 4th book is about Brynne and Ethan, but can be read by itself (meaning without having read the first three, which I still recommend to read so that you know the characters).

The Muse is actually the first of a two part series.  In the Blackstone Affair we meet Ethan's cousin Ivan and Brynne's roommate Gabrielle.  The Muse is a historical piece about Ivan's family the Rothvale's and then the next book (I do not believe it is titled yet) will be a modern piece about Ivan and Gabrielle.

I hope that helps clear up any confusion.  Again though I STRONGLY recommend reading Raine's five books that are for sale.  I would start with the Blackstone Affair (Naked, All In and Eyes Wide Open) and then read His Perfect Passion and The Undoing of Libertine.

  2. Well she's right! Lol its mystery and suspense. Since I suck at summarizing books without practically telling the whole story I copy and pasted the blurb from goodreads. It does a much better job than i ever could. So here ya go!

Marriage can be a real killer.

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn’t do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?

Thanks, that does sound really good, I think that I will have to order it.  Is it a solo book or is there a previous book or a sequel?

  3. Hi Ladies

On Dublin Street. Has been mentioned a few times. I bought it and loved it.

A Scottish Gideon and a damaged young woman. Re read it a few times.

Just ordered. Janes Melody. Will let you know what I think, but reviews love it.

    Julie,

I loved this book, I was late on the take to read this book too.  I hope that you will read Jo's story, "Down London Road" and then Ellie's "Until Fountain Bridge."  Ellie's story (I believe) was not released on paper, but it is really good.  It is more or less a trip down memory lane, but it is still good.  I am glad that you too decided to read Samantha Young's books.

  4. Gone Girl is really good! I know many people hated the ending though.. I was a bit annoyed with it  but got over it! lol

    Insideofclouds,

I have heard a lot of people talk about the book Gone Girl, but no one has told me about the book or what kind of book it is or anthing.  I don't want to ask you to give me a book report (unless you want to) but would love to hear a little about the book or at least what kind of book (romance, mystery, sci-fi, etc.) this book is.  I have one friend who read it and all she would tell me is that it is nothing like FSOG, which really tells me nothing.  I would love some info, thanks.

  5. Hello Ladies- I'm leaving for the beach tomorrow for a week and I've made a momentous decision! :). I'm going to leave my Crossfire books behind. I don't think I've gone more than a couple of days without at least a taste, since I discovered them in the spring. So it will be cold turkey. There is wifi where I'm staying so I will have to subsist on board comments and Sheen's luscious photos. I may have to go back into the Chapter a Day favorite quotes section if I get desperate for a fix. Wish me luck. Nancy

Have a great vacation and get-a-away.  It will give your brain a little bit of extra perspective when you pick the books up again and maybe you will find the answers to the many questions we all have.

    Enjoy and relax

  6. Sorry I'm late.  It has been a crazy week at work and I don't see next week being any better.

    Happy Birthday.  happy-birthday.gif

    Sharon,

Thank you so much, I am sorry your week has been crazy and this coming week doesn't look better.  Maybe the following week though will be spectacular.

The birthday greeting is much appreciated and I love the graphic.  You guys are the BEST.

  7. I think the criticism was due to the fact that the setting of the book was Seattle/Portland area.  When I read it there were some things that confused me and then after I looked up the meanings, I thought no one born in Washington, or any where in the US would say that.  I was taught in creative writing to stick with what you know so the story is realistic.  If the setting were London or Toronto it would have been more realistic.  That said the use of British speak was insignificant to those of us who loved the story.  In my opinion, the reason the books were so well loved is because the characters were so real and loveable.   These comments were usually from writers who couldn't look past the grammar, typos, setting inconsistencies, etc.nt on the writing because that is subjective.

I wanted comment on this, because I have been told by many that I am a very detail oriented person and reading is included in my detail orientedness.  With that said I live, was born and raised in Portland, Oregon proper and have been to Seattle (and Vancouver), Washington more times than I can count.

I feel like E.L. did a really good job of accurately portraying and talking/writing about the pacific NW and to think that she had never been here prior to writing the books.  There was only one geographical mistake that I picked up in the 4 times I read and at least that many times I listened to the audio book.

I will not comment on the writing because that is subjective.

  8. Downloading Kindle on the Nook must be something new.  I tried it on mine and it gives me an error every time;  I like my Nook but I do a lot of pre-orders of books.  B&N can't seem to get my pre-orders downloaded on they day they are released.

    Sharon,

I previously had that problem and called them, they gave me a really easy solution and it has never been an issue since.  Archive the pre-order and then Un-archive it.  Either turn the Nook off (and then back on) when it is archived or right after you un-archive it and voila.

It is the same that you are supposed to do with your Kindle, my friend has a Kindle and they are supposed to fo something similar.  Which Nook do you have?   I believe the downloading of the App is on the new ones, but not positive.

  9. never saw that GiGi but not been on FB for a couple of days, why do people think they can comment like that on other people, the old saying never fails me "people in glass houses shouldn't cast the first stone"

    Will they ever learn

    Gigi and Sheens,

I saw the pictures, that I think, you are talking about.  Sylvia was in a maxi-dress or so it looked and posing with other authors.  What did people say to her?  I feel like I am missing something.

  10. choices choices LOL :P

Tomorrow is my birthday and I am REALLY hoping that I get a new Nook.  I have the original Nook Color and with the price drop of the 9 in Nook, I asked for it.  I know that everyone feels strongly about whether to get a Nook, Kindle, Ipad or other e-reader, I think that they all have great features and most are all very similar.  However since I already have a Nook, I wanted to be able to read all the books I already have so it seemed silly to get something different.  Another thing I learned is that since the Nook takes part in Google Play (I think that is what it is called) you can download the Kindle app on the Nook, but Amazon doesn't allow you to download the Nook app from your Kindle.

Make the best choice for YOU.

  11. I have no idea where Eva grew up, but I think the hints in the text are that it was not New York City or California.  Eva talks about her love affair with NYC, how everyone walking around the city is used to it but it's all new to her and she's infatuated, etc.  And then the quote from Victor about how he noticed something was wrong when she moved to California.  The only other hint I noticed was that when Gideon and Eva went to North Carolina, I think she said something about her mother's second husband (the gambler) having a place on a lake so she has fond memories of beaches.  Since it was on a lake I'll go out on a limb and guess it was not especially near either coast (maybe one of the Great Lakes?).  That still leaves a lot of the country!  I wouldn't be surprised if each of Monica's husbands lived in a different city.

    Sarah,

I agree no one knows where her formative years were spent or if it was only one place, I think we can all point to parts in the book where it sounds like it wasn't either NY or CA. The actual location is not that big of a deal, however what I am more interested in knowing is whether the reason we don't have answers.  Is it because it really doesn't matter to their story and so Sylvia never included this background information because it was not important OR do we not know because it is so important and we just have not learned it because it plays an important role?

  12. Oh! That's the other thing! re where Eva grew up...I thought it was it was in Cali the whole time, only moving to SD in college to be by Victor...but in rereading last night, the part I noticed is when Victor called Eva after finding out  and said 'how could she not have known something was wrong? I knew when you came to California!' (something like that)....so where was Eva living?I guess wherever Monica's husbands were .

    Nathalia,

I posed this question a while ago and thought I would re-pose it now.

-Where was Eva born and raised? For some reason I always thought it was NY however she talks about being in NY and it being her adopted home. So if she was not born and raised in NY I would assume it would be CA, which is where her parents met. Although she doesn't talk much about her childhood it is made to sound like Victor was not around often and I am assuming it they lived in CA then she would have had a closer relationship with her Dad, including but not limited to when Nathan was raping her. So the question again is where was she raised and will we ever learn more about her childhood and relationships with her parents in her formative years?

Victor, after finding out about what Nathan did to Eva, in EWY even talks about how he should have fought harder to keep Eva with him.  Again which makes us think that she was not in CA.

  13. My husband has an Audible subscription and gets the one free book per month deal.  He listens to books while he's mowing the lawn and in the car when he's driving from office to office at work (he directs a sattelite office but has frequent meetings at corporate headquarters with senior execs).  He finished his last book over the weekend and I downloaded Bared to You onto his phone this week.  He obligingly started it yesterday and got up to Eva's lunch with Stanton . . .

which means that on his way to corp for a meeting today, he'll be listening to the scene of Eva and Gideon "negotiating" in his office . . . and on his couch . . . until Scott interrupts.

    This should be interesting.

I have the same plan, where you get a book for free each month with your membership and cannot wait to use my $5 credit.

  14. I do however read some FSOG fanfic on a blog by a woman called Sasha Cameron. Just Google her name if you.want to find it.

She has written Elliott and Kates story and intertwined it very well with the books.

She is also now writing a story about Mia and Ethan.

If you are looking for good fanfic I recommend her. It's well written and she seems to understand these characters well. There's a lot of story written and she adds a new chapter every week or so.

I have NEVER read any fanfiction.  Where/how do you find it?  Is it anything worth reading?  I am honestly not even sure I really know what it is, someone tried to explain it to me, but they made it sound like most were really bad.

  15.  Fsumom,

    your welcome!

FSOG lead me too, to Crossfire!

And what I wanted to say, now in September the POV of the male French man of the Pearl Triology will be published. Just read it on FB from Arianne Richmonde!

I am so glad that you are inspired!

And there is one more series I do read right now - the BLACKSTONE AFFAIR from Raine MIller. First book is NAKED. The e-books are a bit expensive and the paperback are not already out. I do like this series because 3 books are out and it will be a 4 book in November which continues the story. The first book is the female POV, the second book is the male POV ( and so funny) and the third book is with both POV´s , male and female. And there are coming more books, one takes place 200 years before the Blackstone Affair and one tells the story of one of the friends of Blackstone Affair main character. So, all the stories are interwined.

The writing style I do like! There is suspense, there is fun and everything takes place in London. Ethan Blackstone is Bristish, and the woman is an American Girl!

So, enough from my chatting of others books. Will look in the theories you all have regarding book 4 and 5!

    SME...

Thank you again for bringing up The Blackstone Affair, we have discussed it multiple times on here and I still cannot convince enough people how great Raine did with these books.  So a funny story to share, I have a friend who is a Mom of 3 boys and far more "adventurous" than I am.  She however has never read romance novels, I too am a newer reader to this genre, I started with FSOG last March and have been addicted since.  Anyway I am always telling my friend about these books and so finally I convinced her to download the Nook app on her smart phone so that I could lend her some books.  The first two books were Naked and All is (the first two in The Blackstone Affair) and she told me that she has never blushed as much as she did reading the books.  I guess my "adventurous" friend might be so much after all.

  16. Hi Fayeth,

I agree with you.  I don't think that Martin and Michael are the same.  Eva knows Martin (he is indirect family) so she has been around him in the past.  Eva has a pretty good gut instinct and as such if Martin wasn't a nice guy she would have gotten a feeling about him. I also don't think that she would have introduced him to her friend's friend (just my opinion).

As for Megumi, I think that something isn't right with that situation.  I am suspicious because no one has spoken to her other than the HR Department.  We haven't been introduced to Daphne (is it?) and as such we can't assess whether Megumi is actually sick or whether something more is going on.

The other thing that made me suspicious is the fact that Eva left a messages for Megumi and thus far, neither Megumi nor Lacey have returned her calls.  Asides from that I have no idea what has happened.  I could potentially see something being written for the next book but as to what that is, I have no idea.

I think that there are several other characters that Sylvia could develop successfully and we would probably love them too.  I hope you have a great weekend!  :)

    Gigi,

As always thank you for your response.  I think that Martin is a good guy and I hope that I am not wrong.  I am concerned about who this Michael guy is.  You are right about Daphne too, although I had not thought about that.  She could be making this all up.  I hope that Lacey and Megumi are not both in trouble, being sick is not that big of a deal, however not returning the calls is what I think has everyone's detective skills working hard.

  17. HI ... agree that G & E set the bar really high !!

I read there is going to a 3rd Gabriel book maybe sometime this year.  I haven't read the On Durbin Street, but read On London Road by same author.

Also, Sylvia's Historical series are good sexy if you go to her site and see the order to read them.  All separate stories but linked with characters from book-to-book.    Also liked her Dream Guardian (2) books.  Not into paranormal much but those are good.

    Enjoy :)

You should read On Dublin Street.  I really liked it, but maybe it is because I read all three books by Samantha Young in the order they were released.  Typically in series like hers where it starts with one set of characters in the first book and each subsequent book is about different charcters we were previously introduced to, I typically like the first set the best and want to read more about them, but that could just be a quirk of mine.   :)

  18. Hi Julie,

Good question.  I wonder if Monica's marriage willl survive her infidelity too.  I also wonder if Stanton will find out about her affair independently or whether Monica will confess.  Questions, questions, questions... :)

I do not neccesarily think that Monica would say anything if the cheating with Victor was truly a one time thing, which I REALLY hope that it was.  I think for her it was a temporary lapse in judgement, which I really hate that happened.

I think that something like that, their marriage could survive.  I am not sure if their marriage (or my heart) could handle if it happened again.

  19. I have seen a few posts in the past few days about Martin (Marty) and Michael and wondering if the two are one in the same.  I think it is pretty safe to say that they are not.

However the question that I want to ask is...do you think that Michael is a new character in the book or do you think that he is something that we have previously been introduced to, as either someone nameless or someone we have been introduced to as a different name?

There is one character that we know very little about and I would be interested in learning more about and that is Gideon's assistant Scott.  He seems like a really great person and assistant, but I feel like I would like to know more about him.

Also, are we all convinced that something "bad" has happened to Megumi and that she is not sick?  If so, are we convinced that it is of Michael's doing?

  20. Fayeth, I'm a little concerned about all this crushing on Angus. I put in a claim for him not long after I joined this forum. Surely there are plenty of younger guys you can hit on - Daniel, Arnoldo, Cary, etc. Besides, I know what he said to Gideon after the vows. :)

Nrock, I am just trying to give him the credit he deserves, I promise to back off your man though.  As long as I know you properly appreciate him, he is yours :)

  21. HAH! Just picturing Angus hooking up a baby seat in the back of the Bentley!!

Personally I don't think anything would make Angus happier than doing this.  I cannot tell you how much I love and  respect Angus.  He has been so many different things and played so many different roles in Gideon's and now Eva's life and for him to see his boss and pseudo son happy and being a father...I think that would mean so much to Angus to be there to see another generation of Cross' grow.
