  1. While Eva was kissing Brett, she recognized inside that she was doing so " ..... because the attraction was still there and it soothed something hurting inside me to think I might've been more than a convenient piece of a**." (page 162)

I think what really was hurting inside her was the fear that her true status with Gideon was piece of a** -- that the only reason Gideon was still with her, now that Corrine had come back, was because the sex between her (Eva) and Gideon was doing it for him. Her only hold on Gideon was sexual -- but Corrine had some sort of much deeper hold on him and he couldn't break free of it.

The consequences of his mishandling the Corrine situation from day one was this awful triggering of Eva's deepest insecurities, her lowest self-esteem.

In hindsight, what he ought to have done when he saw Corrine at that fundraiser was leave with Eva instead of insisting on staying. All the bad that brought Eva to this terribly triggered place came from his mistaken belief he could control the situation by controlling both of the women involved. He vastly underestimated how much of a crisis to their relationship the Corrine situation was -- especially because he vastly underestimated Corrine's ruthlessness.

The first time I read the chapter, I thought Eva was simply 1) reassessing her relationship with Brett; 2) taking her revenge on him, the kiss only a reminder of how it could have been between them, period. But then we are talking Gedeon and Eva, not George and Mildred!!!!

It's amazing how much anger, pain and anguish Sylvia has managed to convey in barely five pages.

  2. Angus wouldn't have been able to see nor hear anything going on in the back once Gideon raised the privacy glass that seals off the back of the limo from the front of it. Once the privacy glass is up, the only thing Angus would hear from the back of the car would be if Gideon hit the intercom button to talk to him.

Gideon did this the very first time he had Eva in the back of the limo -- as soon as they settled in the back, Gideon raised the privacy glass and then pulled Eva into his lap. Within minutes, Gideon decided to let her go ahead and seduce him right there in the car, and so he hit the intercom to instruct Angus to keep driving around until he (Gideon) said otherwise.

    ===============

That said, yes, this particular scene does have some disturbing aspects of it. When the sex starts out, it is not lovemaking -- it is one sided f******* with Gideon demanding Eva pleasure him. There are some real BDSM elements to it -- it's one of the reasons I've recently developed a theory that the real sexual dealbreaker issue years ago with Corrine was much deeper than Gideon's refusal to stay the night with her.

Both Gideon and Eva are flawed in some ways. This scene is where we saw his dark side. Twice, we've seen a dark side of Eva when she has erupted in violence. Twice when furious with Gideon, her wound-and-run pattern has involved slapping him across the face very hard, hard enough to make his head snap. The first time is Bared page 225 as she's trying to storm away from him at his parents mansion. The second time is Reflected page 38 in Gideon's office as Eva is going postal over her belief Gideon had barely finished f****** Corrine there.

Just like I felt for Eva as she told Gideon to stop treating her like a w****, I felt for Gideon in his office as he told Eva to not hit him.

At first I thought it was "get-it-out-of-your-system" sex, but then I realized there were much darker undertones to it. They have still so much to learn about one another!!!

  3. Seeing what my last post looks like, someone might think I was drunk while writing it. I was not!!! Only too focused on how I was going to phrase what I wanted to say.

What a clear example of the S/M relationship the limo scene is!! I think Marquess De Sade would be quite proud of it.

The same cannot be said about Gedeon, though. The fact that through her debasement Eva gets a better understanding of herself is a moot point: Gedeon is being cruel to his Eva, period. I can't find any excuses for that!

  4. Here's what     in Chap.10

    1) The exchange between Eva and Arnoldo taking place while Brett and Gedeon are still fighting.

"What the h**l are you doing?"... "He's your friend! You're just going to leave him like that?"

"He's your boyfriend".... "And YOU are the one who left him like that."

    2)  Arnoldo's speaking as a true friend

"Be gentle with him".... "I have never seen him the way he is with you. I can't say you are worth of him, but you make him

happy. I saw that myself. Do it or walk. Don't f**k with his head."

    3) The whole s*x scene in the limo riding towards North Carolina. The pacing of Gedeon's "WHY?"s, the feel of his pent-up

anger, the cruelty of his "This isn't for you." always leave me breathless and weeping for both of them.

  5. Mrs. C catches the new one first yet again!!!

Cockamamie theory I have is this represents Corrine being kicked to the curb. Here's the basis for my theory

    • Chapter 20 is the third-to-last chapter of Entwined (which has 22 chapters)
    • Chapter 20 of Bared to You also the third-to-last chapter (of 22 chapters). This was where our Least Favorite Brunette first showed up as a character, and in this chapter, among the things she claimed when messing with Eva's mind is she (Corrine) talks on the phone with Gideon every day.
    • Reflected in You has only 20 chapters, so there, Chapter 18 is the third to last. That chapter features the only other face-to-face meeting between Least Favorite Brunette and Our Favorite Blonde. In it, Corrine also is playing mindgames by claiming Gideon is spending all his free time with her.

Sooooooo ...... is this chapter does Corrine try one last trick, via text, because Gideon won't see her any more nor even speak with her over the phone?

I like your theory quite a lot.! Ciao

  6. Just read paragraph from Sylvia's new books "Afterburn" on FB. Another one for us to get our teeth into girls. When we have exhausted Gideon, we can let him recover over the autumn, and start on Jackson. What say you?

    HI JULIE,

I'd say there are Marcus (Ask for it), Jasper (Pride and Pleasure) and Gerard (The Stranger I Married) to deal with as well!!!! I know these are "one -shot" novels but they are absolutely up to any expectations. lol

  7. Gideons sense of humour, or rather lack of it.

It a shame he is so serious, we have never really seen a playful happy side to this man. Only once or twice does Eva mention about him laughing or chuckling, or at the restaurant with Arnoldo.

His character is so sad (understandable given his life) he needs a shot of happiness into his veins. Eva will help him recover but I can't see this happening anytime soon.

    Good morning Julie!!

Sense of humour is something you are either born with or sorely lacking for all your life. I'm sure Gedeon will find out he's got some deep inside his troubled soul!!! I could also feel his enjoying Eva's crusade in his behalf... he was really amused by the image of New Eva confronting all those who had hurted him in the past like a modern Fury!!!

  8. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The act of eating can be extremely pleasurable and as such the diner might get an unguarded glimpse into what kind of pleasure someone might derive from just the act of eating.  I think that Gideon and Arnoldo were inadvertently turned on by Eva’s moans and groans of pleasure (Gideon-because he has heard Eva’s pleasured moans before and Arnoldo-because he may have cooked the food that Eva was enjoying so much).  Just my thoughts

    Good morning again GiGi!

the link between sex and food has been covered by extensive literature in every genre. It's a well-known fact that men love watching a woman eat because of the sexual undertones of the act, So, for once, we can say DIETING IS A B**CH aloud and clear!!!:)

  9. Hi Gabri,

It will take anywhere from 10-30 days for a book to clear through Amazon.com and then travel internationally where it will take anywhere from 10-16 days to clear customs.  You are better off buying the book at your local bookstore unfortunately.  The shipping and importing laws are very strict and depending on what the relations are between each country,  you may end up waiting longer.   That was my personal experience when I lived in Italy (as well as in other parts of Europe at the time).

    Good morning GiGi!

thank you so much for your insights in the shipment/import department. I 'm a newbie and  obviously needing all the info I can get! I'll have to be patient....

  10. Something I wanted to bring up regarding the day that Gideon first saw Eva... I know Andie had mentioned in an earlier post that the way Eva tilted her head back and looked up at The Crossfire brought back a memory Gideon may have had about his dad....I disagree. I think at that moment with the sun reflecting off her blonde hair and Eva looking up at the Crossfire with a gleam in her eye actually made Gideon picture an ANGEL... I mean of course Eva was beautiful and shapely in her yoga pants but I believe Gideon saw her with a glow about her just like he did when she came out of the shower in Chapter 1 of EWY...I bring this up because I have often wondered why he went in the building after her... He most assuredly came across many a beautiful blonde in his lifetime. I really do think he had been wishing or praying for someone to come into his life and "love" him so to speak. When he told Eva that he must have wished for her so hard and so often she had no choice but to come true I believe him. Right there in front of his building in that moment his ANGEL appeared and he went in after her to see if she was really indeed meant for him. It was in that moment that the brunettes were banished forever and it really was love at first sight...What do you all think?

I feel so ashamed of myself!!! when I read that passage the first time (and the second too) I simply took it at face value, that is the skyscraper as a phallic symbol Eva was trying to take in (HA!! HA!! If I say the pun is not intended, will someone believe me?). To my defense I have to say that Gedeon himself confirmed my guess. When he describes their first encounter from his point of view, he says that that's how he had imagined her looking at him.

    I like you theory best!

  11. It was a reference to the Watergate affair with President Nixon, back in the 1970's. you probably weren't born then.

Yesterday we think someone made a boob and posted an incorrect photo regarding day 13. Showing an engagement ring in a mans hand. The post was removed about an hour or so later, and another photo replaced it.

It was just my humour. I called it photogate!

I was five years old in 1970, so WAS ALIVE AND KICKING BY THEN!!!! I appreciated the hint to the Watergate affair as I have seen the film with Robert Redford and  Dustin Hoffman.

So there's someone out there who is laughing at our expenses.... Well, I HOPE SOME OF THE LADIES ON THIS FORUM WILL COME AND GET YOU, and then we'll know who's laughing!!!
