  1. I do think Corrine will be going bye bye in this book. I don't think they will be able to have a friendship after everything that has happened. She will always want more. There is too much dishonesty and pain between them. Like LN said she is not truly a real friend, she wants Gideon at any cost.

Oh trust me, she will be having that door hit her backside faster than you can say, "Corrine you never stood a chance!" lol

  2. I've completely reconsidered Magdalene as a character because of all of this careful re-reading of the series, one chapter at a time.

I think Magdalene is subtly (and cleverly) portrayed as what Corrine actually should be but isn't - a true old friend to Gideon who wants what's best for him and who "gets" it that she (Magdalene) does not stand a chance at being anything more than an old friend. Magdalene comes across as a b***** on the surface but who is genuinely honest underneath. Contrast that to Corrine who comes across as sweet on the surface but is dishonest and self-delusional underneath.

Magdalene wants her old friend to be happy, even if that means another woman making him happy. She wants to be his friend.

Corrine wants Gideon no matter what, even if it means destroying happiness he found with someone else. Under the cover of "friendship" she's been trying to manipulate him the whole time, sensing at least enough to know there's something broken there.

When Eva told Corrine at her apartment that maybe if Corrine was his friend, she'd see that he was deeply hurting. A true friend would see that.  In my opinion that was the slap in the face that stung a lot more proving Corrine doesn't care about Gideon's feelings at all because all she cares about is being his wife and making sure she's eliminated the competition. Can you imagine if he ever did tell her about his nightmares and his past? I can't imagine her being the type to stick around during the bad times only the good. I can't wait until she's written out of the chapter. I've completely changed my opinion about Magdalene because she cares about her friend Gideon.

  3. I think the reason everyone is trying so hard to protect Eva is because her recovery is so tenuous.   They all see how she reacts to Nathan, and while they need to include her more in decisions, I understand their actions.  I’m sure Monica and Stanton gave Gideon some backstory that makes him worry.  Also, I keep thinking about what Monica said at the hospital “He’s completely taken you over and assumed control of everything.† Gideon wants to protect Eva the only way he knows how at this point.

I also want to comment on Monica’s love for Eva.  I am firmly in the camp believing that Monica really loves Eva and is consumed with guilt.  I was in the hospital a lot as a child and I can tell you my parents were overcome with guilt and all they did was accept a promotion that moved them to another city.  If I found out that my child was abused because of a decision I just can’t imagine how guilty I would feel.

    Hi Gigi & Sharon,

    I absolutely agree  : )

  4. Destroying the notes -- that "claim" is what told me the detective was lying through her teeth. Cops do not destroy records, least of all with homicide cases, because such cases technically stay active forever if not "solved" via arrest. With all other serious crimes, a statute of limitations exists. When the time runs out, and no arrest has been made, the case is finished. At that point, the case file is useless. Murder files never run out of time. The case may be considered "cold" -- but it still is an open investigation.

Plus, we know videotape was seized from Stanton's office. Given the fact Gideon never EVER phoned Eva once the body had been found, it's safe to say his phone records got pulled too. The cops would have gotten copies of all the old case files concerning Nathan's past crimes. Did all of that go into someone's fireplace to get torched? I think ... NOT. The notes didn't either.

Thank you LN for explaining this. I thought it sounded too easy that she "destroyed the notes".

  5. lovely car!

The website will probably crash on Tuesday. This forum will be HOT!!!

you're not kidding!!! I've been away from my computer for a few days and feel like I missed a ton of stuff. I saw that SD is posting the Chapter 1 where the snippets & snapshots are. I had a feeling they would be there. I can't wait to read it. I'm counting down the hours lol! : )

  6.   I always had the impression that Eva had a relationship with her dad from the time she was very young.  Even though it wasn’t what Victor wanted Monica allowed Victor to be a part of Eva’s life.  “My mother refused to marry him, but he’d never wavered from his determination to be my dad in every way possible.†In Bared to You.    I thought this meant that Victor spent time with Eva and checked up on her often.

In Reflected in You Eva was thinking about her mom “I couldn’t ignore how she’d managed to avoid seeing or talking to him since I’d become old enough to communicate with him directly† I interpreted this comment to mean that once Eva was old enough to call her dad and visit him herself Monica completely broke and contact with him but she never kept Eva away from Victor.

Do you all look at this differently?

Hi Sharon! : ) sorry for the delayed response back. I took a few days away and feel like I missed out on a lot being away! lol I agree with you on this because that's how I saw it. I'm just so annoyed at Monica's behavior. I actually like Victor more than Monica!

  7. OK, so what did Detective Graves do wrong that makes it impossible (I firmly believe) to get Gideon convicted of murder? I've discussed it in other threads, but I'll summarize here.

First, though, Detective Graves already has succeeded in getting one half of the evidence needed to attempt to convict Gideon of murder. She's got enough evidence to argue he had the "opportunity" to commit the crime.

    • Gideon had the opportunity to get to Nathan's hotel that night and stab him. He was near enough to the location the night it happened and he had access to Nathan.
    • Gideon cannot prove there's no way he could have gone after Nathan that night, because he was somewhere else the entire time and can prove it -- prove his has a solid alibi. The whole party, complete with press photos, was supposed to be Gideon's alibi. He was counting on the cops looking at the press photos and not even bothering to dig any deeper.
    • But the detective dug hard enough and found a one-hour window during which Gideon could have slipped away to commit the killing. Graves broke his alibi.

So now, she's building the other half of the case, "motive." Gideon's motive. She know he did it, his motive being taking extreme measures to save the life of the woman he loves from a very dangerous person. However, there's a difference between knowing Gideon loved Eva all along and being able to prove it beyond reasonable doubt to a jury.

    • Just like Gideon lined up an alibi, he lined up a defense cover story that if worse came to worse and he was charged, he his defense team could offer evidence suggesting Eva meant little to him. Gideon could show that even while Nathan was still alive, Gideon had gotten back together with another woman he's always been in love with - Corrine Giroux.
    • Through witnesses and press photos, Gideon can show he and Corrine were already dating again while Nathan was still alive.
    • Graves' side of the story is she can prove Gideon was in love with Eva all along and was devastated when Eva ended the relationship two days after Nathan died.
    • Graves saw Gideon with Eva's family on Friday evening (after Nathan was already dead.)
    • Graves would have copies of phone records that would prove Eva called Gideon from her home phone to his cell phone on Saturday morning.
    • Graves can provide eyewitness testimony about Gideon's behavior during that phone call on Saturday.

    BUT .....

Those phone records only show who called who at what time and how long the call lasted. There's no recording of what was said during the call.

So Graves tricked Eva into confirming that during that telephone call, Eva broke off the relationship -- she dumped Gideon after Nathan died, not Gideon left her while Nathan was still alive. Graves got the evidence.

But Graves obtained it illegally. She questioned Eva without a lawyer after Eva explicitly invoked her right to have a lawyer present for questioning. And because the evidence is illegally obtained, it cannot be used in court. Ever. It's permanently ruined. And because that evidence is now unusable, the motive side of the entire prosecution's case will collapse. They'll never win -- so they won't even attempt to charge Gideon.

Starting on June 5, you ladies either get to say I was right or tease me for guessing wrong. :)

    I won't have to wait till then. I already know you're right : )

  8. Whatever monicas issue is she doesn't deserve victor. She is very materialistic. She made a choice and it wasn't him.

She wouldn't even allow Eva to have Victor's last name and she also didn't allow him to have a big part of Eva's life. He only got to be her in life when she went to San Diego to get away from Monica's smothering. This poor guy needs a happy ending and monica needs a lobotomy lol

  9. I think maybe the badge just has to do w/ Graves...Something w/ the case obviously, no? Maybe they're not pursuing the case anymore. It doesn't have to be a 'high profile' case if it isn't leaked anywhere that Gideon is a murder suspect. Maybe it could just quietly go away....lol..

And maybe the next snapshot will be of something happy and fun! Champagne celebration of not having to hide or be afraid of getting locked up! :)

Boy oh boy....I really can not wait for this book! I too hope that chapter one is really really long....like...half the book long....lol j/k (not really ;) )

Good news is we only have to wait until Mon for the next snapshot : )

  10. I desperately feel sorry for Eva, thinking that she would embarrass her family and Gideon for the abuse she suffered. To have to live with that for the rest of your life, thinking that you have brought shame on your family, living with the guilt must be utter torment. Nathan got off lightly in my eyes.

I just want to give her a hug to make it all go away. agreed Nathan definitely got off lightly.

  11. hey

My daughters say the same. I think they might book me into a clinic. As long as it as Internet access, go for it I say!!

I dragged my husband to the meet & greet and he was having fun even though he never read the books, lol he thinks I spend way too much time on here discussing the books. He told me to find a few people on here to do have the discussion group in person. I told him not everyone lives in NJ or the US! men lol

  12. Here is a funny scenario, the case is dropped. Graves knows who the real killer and since she cant do anything about it, she resigns from the force. She then moves to California and hooks up with Victor and finally gets to go to Disneyland (where she has wanted to go since she was a kid) Everyone gets their HEA.

    Just something to laugh about

you made me laugh! : )

  13. Could it be that victor had passed the detectives test. Eva's not the only person who can keep a big secret !

Maybe a political move to have a new detective in NYC.

Victor may have been planning on telling Eva on his visit to NYC but then didn't when the whole murder thing came about.

Decided that it wasn't the time.

I love it! I hope this is what we get to read about Victor!!

  14. I definitely don't think Gideon will get arrested for Nathan's murder. The badge could represent Eva's dad i some way. Or it could signify the end of the murder investigation.

I was saying that it's Victor coming back but I've been wrong before. I do know he's definitely coming back though! Sylvia told us that at the meet & greet but I don't know if this is the chapter for it.
