  1. Things about Deanna in Aftershock - Nico states to Gia "Vincent never liked her much either. He just put up with her because she was crazy in bed. Liked some kink and bondage."

Then goes on to say "She'd told him once that she started her career by sleeping with prominent married (that word in italics but I can't do that here) men, and then using pillow talk and extortion, if necessary, to get leads out of them."

The outcome of Gia's actions meant Deanna was fired so presumably this happens in a time after Gid/Eva?

All we know happened with Gideon was that he came on to Deanna to evade being stuck with Anne Lucas, Deanna had heard he had a dark reputation so was willing to hook up. He took Deanna to the hotel, proceeded to do something unspecified with her but probably not the s*x*al act itself and probably no bondage or kink included, took a phone call and told her she could go as whatever the call was about was more important than her (and in Gideon's mind some business would be more important than a quick shag with a woman he did not expect to see again in that way). So yes it is not nice to get down to the s*x act and end up unfulfilled and told to go, and presuming she knew his one night stand history to realise there would be no repeat - but is that really enough to cause someone to continue to hold a grudge?

Knowing we only have one book to go and lots of things to finalise, maybe we're on the wrong track with Deanna, thinking she may be dangerous still when in fact Gideon's apology could have calmed her down? So far as the women are concerned he's enough on his hands with Anne who is definitely dangerous, getting Corrine to realise publishing a book is not a great idea at all and is not going to solve anything, and then his mother - is he going to reconcile with her once she realises she was totally in the wrong, or will there remain some form of distance between them? The mystery of the other person who checked Gideon and said he had not been abused is still there plus I can't forget the comment Gideon made re Cary at the garden party "Just remember that he's Eva's friend, Mother. That makes him min as well."

In finding that last sentence I passed through the scene in the library - after Magdalene had seen Gideon and Eva we know she told Christopher that she saw Gideon eating Eva, did she rush straight to tell him, was that why Christopher appeared shortly after while they were f**king? Was he attempting to act as a voyeur, and had he done so in the past when Hugh was with Gideon?

I don't think Deanna can be fired at this point she is a freelance writer.  She was fired (my theory) before Gideon and hoped to use him for contacts.  That would explain why she was so hostile that he treated her the way he did.  Yes it was demeaning but like Eva said give him and move on.  (paraphrasing)

I don't think Deanna is a big problem anymore but she does like to stir the pot a little, thus the drop by Gideon's office.  I think she is happy with the wedding story she is getting.  I also think she hopes to have Gideon as a reference for future stories.

I agree there are enough questions unanswered to fill two books.  As I mentioned before I hope these questions aren't brushed over or answered off page and we only see a few sentences about the discussion.

Good question about Christopher being a little voyeuristic.  He said he came looking for Gideon at his mother's request but it could be his own curiosity.  He did ask Eva a couple times if she was OK.

I feel like I'm always saying this about the Crossfire series but I want the next book now!

  2. I get so excited over all these speculations, can hardly wait to see what's going to happen.... I'm hoping that OWY is twice as big as CBY, and that we will get answers to all (most of all) of our questions. I wish Sylvia could give us some teasers or hints for Christmas ;) that would have been great!!

The discussion are fun.  I don't know how long OWY is going to be but my hope is the questions are answered in more than one paragraph.  It would be a shame to come this far and not get resolution.

  3. if Cary didn't know the name of that red head at that gala at the end of EWY it means he doesn't recognized Anne.  or his research on Dr. Lucas wasn't extensive  .. he just said has a wife and children .. but there's not much to research if he doesn't know what he's looking for..  when anne was seen in Evas' apartment building she was also wearing her wig..

I agree he didn't recognize her at first but I'm sure Cary and Eva had a discussion off page.  He knew she was upset and he would protect her.

  4. I just want to make a general comment about Elizabeth. I feel like her admitting that Gideon was abused would be tantamount to admitting that she on some level failed him, and in her mind that would have made her a bad parent. It's much easier to think your troubled son is lying than to think that you've been blind to something of this magnitude going on in your child's life. Do I agree that it was her fault he was being abused...no. But like Eva stated the minute Elizabeth found out and didn't believe him she became just as guilty.

I agree with you Kirsten.   Sylvia said Elizabeth was at a point in her life that she couldn't take on anymore bad and, therefore, refused to accept it.  It was made easier to deny the truth by the fact that Dr. Terry said Gideon didn't show any signs of being abused.

I still wonder who the second doctor that examined Gideon was.   He was only mentioned that one time as far as I remember.

  5. in CBY page28-29 they only thing that Elizabeth said about Brett and Eva is that "she's involved with that singer Brett Kline" So I don't think that she knows about the video (the real one) not the "Golden" one. Won't Christopher be surprised when he goes to look at it again and finds out that it has "vanished"!!

as for Cary being with Anne more than once....hopefully he is not that dumb...he didn't even know the name of the redhead at the dinner when Eva was questioning him about who he was dancing with and then later after the closet....

You're right.  I guess I was writing my own story in my head.  I was certain she said something about the tape.    I guess Christopher was bad mouthing Eva to her.

  6. Maybe I'm nuts, but I'd like to believe that we've heard pretty much the end of Brett. That showdown at their 'picnic' lunch spoke volumes and what need would Eva have to ever see him again? I'm with you Ann. Let's breakout the Krav Maga on Christopher. I can see him stepping out of line with Eva and her not being afraid to put him back in his d*mn place.

Actually now that you mention it I can see Eva taking down Christopher when she goes into one of her "protect Gideon" modes.  I would like to see that.

Kirsten I still feel like there is one more play left in Brett.  When he was in Gideon's office he mentioned something about he couldn't keep him away from Eva.  I think he is going to run into her and try to smooth her hurt feelings and try to convince her to give him one more try.  I might be wrong but something feels incomplete to me.

  7. I had a typo... I meant that G should NOT see the s*xtape, because E will snap (and run)!

Has Liz mentioned that *clearly got to read it again* ???? Chris Jr knows how much that file would be worth, so I'm not surprised if he's got a copy. Chris Jr is also afraid to loose his job at Vidal records and he could use that tape to try to blackmail G, and if he chooses to sell it he would get money and opportunity to punish G by hurtig Eva. I don't trust that man one bit. He might not be as loony as Anne, but still unstable. I think he would exploit every chance he could to backstab his brother.

Could there be any connection between Chris Jr og Anne, since they both want to get to Gideon...One loony to another...

    Ann,

I don't have my book with me (at work) but yes when she came to Gideon's office I'm pretty sure she mentioned the tape.  I'll have to check again when I get home.

  8. In Chapter 11, pages 180 and 181. While Gideon kept Brett busy at his office, someone broke into his luggage and wiped clean his laptop and tablet. It was the latest move in other stuff the hired guns had done, including checking Brett's apartment, wiping out stuff on Sam's equipment and even hacking into accounts and computers of people Sam sent samples of the video (this must have been when Sam was shopping around for bidders willing to buy the whole tape.) When the experts were trailing the links they found out a full copy went to Christopher Jr. and they wiped it off his computer. But they also warned Gideon "it's possible there's a hard copy floating around, although we've searched Kline and Yimara's transactions records for security deposit boxes and the like." Gideon wants the experts to keep checking for any hint there's a hard copy still floating around out there.

This makes me wonder whether Gideon used these same experts to find and destroy all of Nathan's copies of the photos and video he took of Eva.

I should have read forward you found the section I'm thinking about.

I don't think Nathan was that smart to keep a copy hidden.  If I remember correctly we were led to believe that he had all the pictures and videos in his hotel room.  I think the pictures Clancy left at the Russian mob guy were copies that he gave to Stanton.

OK forum members I have posted enough for today and have to get back to work.

  9. Eva hasn't told Cary anything about Anne so he has no idea about her significance, and only Gideon really knows how dangerous Anne is. And like Dr. Travis, Anne is a mental health professional. It's possible she figured out some of Cary's triggers and so she would know what could make matters worse and she's sick enough to push those buttons. The Anne that I read about when Gideon barged into her office scared the heck out of me. Look at what buttons of his she tried pushing.

That's wrong in my opinion.  Cary did research on Dr. Lucas and saw a picture of his wife.  If you remember Cary and Eva talked about it in RIY.  Also after the fund raiser Eva was crazy to find out who the red head was.  Cary knows.

  10. Yes, but weren't there still one copy left? I thought so.... Brett or Chris Jr?!?! And G got a copy burning in his pocket

I think you're right about that. In one way I want it to happen, on the other hand I just want the film to be deleted. I wonder if Gideons ever going to see it, or if he's able to keep his promise to Eva. (He should, for his own good, she's going to snap and start running again... And he has to live with the pictures in his mind!)

If he does, he's going to see that Eva is a changed person, but then again, who wants to watch their beloved one sc**w another person

It must be devastating for Gideon to know that Chris Jr has seen Eva and Brett in action. We all know that he's seen it, he's to big of an as****e to refuse...

I think Gideon has learned his lesson regarding lying or being deceitful with Eva.  I don't think he will look at it without talking to her first.

I think Brett has another copy of the video.  Christopher wouldn't think that Gideon could erase it however, the other option is that he gave a copy to his mother.  She saw it or knows about it because she mentioned it to Gideon.  If Liz uses it against Eva she will never heal her relationship with him or Chris.

  11. Brett still has the video of him and Eva having hot sex. What if he thinks her seeing it would make her remember how great things were sexually during their brief relationship? He's cocky enough (pun intended) to think he's the best she ever had and no way can Gideon satisfy her like that. He pretty much said so in Gideon's office. I think if he ever did show Eva the tape it would backfire horribly for him. It also could be healing in a way for Eva to see the desperate and messed up young woman she used to be before Dr. Travis started helping her to get her head on straight.

I agree with you in that I think Gideon erased the video Brett had at his hotel and/or home computer(s) but I think he carries a copy with him.  I too believe he wants to show it to Eva in an attempt to make her remember their "good times" but she will not receive it well.  It is proof that he doesn't know her really.

  12. I suspect Anne Lucas is messing with Cary's mind, using him as a pawn in some sort of plan to hurt Eva and thus hurt Gideon. Thanks to Raul's good work, we now know she was able to meet Cary, and it looks like that time Eva spotted her leaving the apartment building she had arrived in Cary's company. Cary has started cutting himself, self-destructive behavior. What if Anne is manipulating him mind to make his anxieties worse, make him unravel? It would fit the pattern if it turns out she prescribed depression medication to Corrine that made her depression worse. Good thing that Eva spotted Anne leaving the building and told Gideon about it. I definitely can see him putting a tail on Anne now and hopefully catch her not only in Cary's company but also Corrine's. Connect the dots and figure out just how dangerous a loon she is.

I don't think Anne came in the building with Cary and I don't think she was visiting Cary.   I don't know where you read that Raul showed that she was with Cary any place other than the fund raiser.  I do think that Anne knows where Eva lives and she came in the building with a resident she knows to case the place.  Raul might tail Anne but Cary would never hurt Eva that way.

As far as Cary cutting himself he is reverting to old habits that he had controlled thanks to Dr. Travis.

  13. Hi Kirsten & Ann Cathrin,

I read your comments and I just wanted to add that the physical s*x act in the limo was actually controlled in a lot of ways, by Gideon.  Eva took psychological control by initiating the s*x which is what I think was the game changer for Gideon.  As one of the forum members relayed, it was the first time Gideon allowed another person  to initiate a very intimate act.

Although Eva couldn't physically harm or dominate Gideon, she could inflict a lot of damage (unknowingly) emotionally.

    Good point Gigi.

  14. Good point about it being a bad idea to tell Corrine they're married. She is a loon and is now a loose cannon. And it's not like Gideon can tell her he never meant to let her get her hopes up during those weeks he dated her, because that's exactly the way he needed for her to act and Eva to act heartbroken. Because he had to. It was more than his freedom at stake. He knew Eva could end up accused of being his accomplice. I'm still not convinced I can trust Detective Graves, but she seems to be taking her cues from Eva's father. If Victor approves of them getting back together and getting engaged, then Graves feels that at least for now she can trust Gideon isn't a danger to Eva and the only person he ever was a danger to was Nathan.

I think Eva's Krav Maga skills are for Gideon's peace of mind. He knows the training has given her the skills to fight him off if he ever loses complete control sexually. She has more than a safe word to stop him if he goes into some dark place and snaps. Not that I think he ever would with her. But even Dr. Petersen knows the potential exists. He told the two of them they should be afraid about Gideon's control.

I'm still not sure about Detective Graves myself however, I think this is SD's way of wrapping her storyline up.  Some of these issues have to stay closed or book 5 is going to 1000+ pages.

Eva's Krav Maga skills have to be used on someone other than Gideon.  She started them for self defense not to protect her against her husband...even though she used them for that.  Dr. Petersen is going to help Gideon control his nightmares.  (In real life there is no way a psychiatrist can lessen the nightmares in this short period of time.)  I still think she is going to take out Anne or  Brett or hopefully both.

  15. Thank you for your compliments, very sweet of you.

I don't know if you disgussed this before, but I've been thinking of Eva and Victor. Eva is blond, and looks like her mother. Victor is latino.... Dark hair dominates over blond hair.... Someone else who's been thinking of the same?? Can we be sure that V is Evas father?

We are sure Victor is Eva's father.

  16. A couple comments on your posts.

Christopher.  I don't think he was abused by Hugh.  The more I think about it Gideon went to his mother about the abuse.  She went to Dr. Lucas who knew Hugh was the therapist.  I'm sure he let him know that Elizabeth was asking questions.  Dr. Terry must have told him that he lied to Liz to protect Anne and her family.  Gideon said the abuse lasted a year I think that is when he reported the abuse and Hugh stopped being his therapist.  What I do think is Christopher witnessed the abuse and feels guilt.  Often guilt is manifested by misplaced anger.

Deanna - I'm not worried about her even if she finds out Gideon and Eva are married.  She was a one night stand and I don't think she expected more.  What hurt her is Gideon treated her badly like she was lower than a prostitute.

Corinne - I don't think they can tell her they are married.  She is a major loon.  The reason they didn't tell everyone they were married is because Eva didn't want her mother to feel she got married behind her back out of revenge (after the bad lunch) and she wants her father involved.  If the tell Corinne it will go public.  I think Corinne is going to pull the book deal in the end.

Anne - She is one of the major loose cannons.  She will do anything to hurt Gideon.  Gideon said her whole family is nuts and I think he's right.  I also think she is Corinne's therapist and she is behind her bizarre behavior.  Once they figure this out Corinne will back off and cancel the book deal. I hope that Anne gets to see Eva's self defense skills.  She has to use them on someone.

Brett - I still think he is going to make one more play for Eva and she is going to put him down.

  17. The main issue wasn't really the Lancorp  or Gideon offering Mark a  job .  It was the fact Gideon made a tactical decision to offer a job to Mark w/o telling Eva  and  would cost Eva her job .. the one that she proudly work so hard and love. She values herself as a career woman which in any case  Gideon was really supportive of her she just need to be  on her side fully in Cross industries . I think  It doesn't matter who didn't mentioned it first but its the principle of sharing and communicating the problems that would arise and the need for an equal opinion to solve it. Eva just want to know whats happening before  Gideon make the decision and she want Gideon to share things with her. In as much as Eva ###### me off sometimes  , when Gideon explained things to her she can easily give in.  She doesn't want to be sheltered all the time  .   I could't blame Gideon though because Eva was so slow adapting her new role as his wife..  and when Eva doubts her feelings for Gideon just because of this I just want to scream at her - I wonder why did he marry her again?  ..  God I just want Gideon to be happy  -- seriously his character has been battered, bruise, so many downs , too much on his plate and Eva was his little piece of heaven with too much trouble as  a side dish and Eva sometimes is still being selfish by thinking about her self preservation.

I hope that in OWY their communication skills would improved.

    Gcrossfire

I get Eva's motivation.  I understand one of the biggest problems with her relationship with Gideon is communication but Eva fails in this aspect too.  She wants to be a team but "forgets" to mention her big project to Gideon.  I don't like it but more than that I don't like the way Eva deals with the situation by running and cutting Gideon off.  She wants to face her problems with Brett and others head on but Gideon, her husband, she cuts and runs.

  18. Thanks ladies, spotted this in my re-read, shows that with a series of books as complex as this we need to read more than once. My first read was rather fast, I took a lot in but not all of it.

My only thought is even though the heard that conversation, with so much going on afterwards (Gideon continued with the s*x and then off to San Diego and a busy weekend there) this may have slipped her mind - we heard that scene from Gideon rather than Eva. I'm trying my best not to dislike Eva over how she treats Gideon in chapter 19 and how long it takes her to respond to him in chapter 20 - let's hope when OWY opens they are pretty much together and spend the rest of the book as a team fighting Brett and the mass of Gideon's enemies.

Apart from the Jax and Gia books I've not read any series by Sylvia, does she usually write an Epilogue so we learn about the future?

The only problem is later in the book (Eva's POV) Eva talks (or thinks) about LanCorp being a major competitor of Gideon's.  She is worried when the lady from Lancorp calls that they also think it is a conflict of interest for her to be on the project.   I don't want to dislike Eva either but there is something about her in this book that doesn't sit right with me.

  19. Thanks ladies, spotted this in my re-read, shows that with a series of books as complex as this we need to read more than once. My first read was rather fast, I took a lot in but not all of it.

Normally I would agree with you since this was Gideon's POV but we know how much work Eva did for Gideon after Deanna showed up.  If you remember she completely dazzled Gideon with her ability and he changed his website presence immediately.  Eva did a lot of research in a few hours.  This little project is what made Gideon offer her a job at Crossfire.  They even talked about her going to CrossTrainer instead of her gym because she didn't like to support his competitors.  It doesn't make sense that once she started researching LanCorp it wouldn't click that this was a major competitor for Crossfire.  Eva missed an opportunity to pay Gideon back a little for all he has done for her.  She continually says she wants Gideon to share with her.  If she took the time to mention her new client to Gideon he would have shared Landon's relationship before offering Mark the job.   I can still see Eva giving Gideon an ultimatum at the end but it would be more realistic (to me anyway) if she said I can't stay with you if you can't help yourself and talk to Dr. Peterson.  (I know SD would be more creative than that.)

  20. Hi Sharon,

I read your comments and I agree with your assessment with Cary.  I also just wanted to add that the time that Cary had found out about Tatiana being pregnant and such has been only a short time.  So his freak out is understandable from my view point.  I think about all of my friends and colleagues who have had children and how; from the moment they found out up until the birth and even post birth; that is all they thought about or talked about.

Tatiana's pregnancy may also be forcing Cary to face many childhood issues and traumas that they he may have thought were dealt with enough.  Now Cary has to actively face and deal with what his "mother" did to him and how she never protected him, used him and wh*red him out.  Those are some horrific traumas to deal with.  Although I don't agree with how Cary is behaving(self-harming etc.), I understand his actions.

The issues that Cary is facing in his life right now (and for a long time to come) aren't going to be dealt with, with a one trip to visit to see Dr. Travis. Cary needs life coping skills and parenting skills (if the child is his with Tatiana).  My only hope is that someone will have his back when it comes to sorting out the mess of whether the child is his or not.  It is obvious that he is not in a place in his life where he is able to care for another person, let alone himself.  Right now he acting out from an emotional space and cannot see the "forrest from the trees".

With regards to Gideon, I had a quick question; does Cary know that Gideon was abused as a child?  Or does he only know that Gideon has violent nightmares of an unknown origin?  I don't remember Eva having a conversation with Cary about that.

I think Cary suspects because he saw him having one of his nightmares.  Cary also had nightmares before Dr. Travis helped him.  I don't think Eva would betray Gideon by sharing his actual experience.  In fact there are several times that she laments not being able to talk to her best friend about Gideon.

  21. snapback.png

It doesn't help matters that up to now, Gideon keeps breaking down to see Corrine and all that does is send a mixed message that if she cries out for his attention she'll get it. Think about it. When he ended the charade of dating her he told her they could still have some sort of long distance contact but no more spending time together. When he quit taking her phone calls she showed up at the Crossfire and got him to come to down to the lobby. Then more crazy stalking got him to go see her at her apartment to talk about her depression meds. She took the overdose and he went to the hospital. Then after she got out and went to the Crossfire again he brought her into his office because he felt bad for her because of the miscarriage. But he told her he was engaged so no more contact. The tell-all book is her latest stunt and look what he did. He called her to arrange to meet at the same restaurant he took her to weeks earlier when he started spending time with her.

Know what I think he should have done? Sent Arash to the restaurant instead. Send a clear message and quit sending the mixed message that if only she tries hard enough she can get Gideon to see her.

    Totally agree Lighthouse.

I agree too.  Gideon doesn't know how to cut these ties.

  22. Re Eva not telling Gideon about the Landon project - she had no reason to until he told her that Landon was 'out to get him' - up to then it was just another client. He has told her that he can be a target but looks like that really has not sunk in - but can you blame her, so much has happened for her in so little time. Her mind is on helping Cary, putting her mother in her place and sorting out a wedding, and her biggest hurdle is getting Gideon to talk about his past. Gideon was always convinced she would leave when he finally told all which is now showing in his nightmares. I too believe when he told her in the past he did not remember what he had dreamt, that was truly the case, a lot of dreams/nightmares are not recalled once we wake and I'm pretty sure one of the longer term members of this forum had looked into Gideon's nightmare problem and read that things are not recalled. They are very mixed up nightmares, some truth, some imaginary events but scary as ###### when you wake and remember what you dreamt.

Hopefully book 5 has GidEva forming a strong bond from the outset, and assuming it will only cover a short time period again, that all those women crawl right out of the woodwork and fail in their attempts to hurt the two of them. I know we're also wondering about Cary/Tatiana/Trey, Victor and Monica, Chris and Liz, but those situations will hopefully dealt with as quickly as the bracelet/Nathan and Megumi scenarios and that the detail is given over to Anne, Corrine, Christopher and Gideon's mother.

Hi,  Read Eva's BJ during Gideon's meeting again.  Eva knew Lancorp was a competitor before they received the job.

  23. Eva did not tell Gideon about Landon placing a job at their agency but she weighted  her loyalty to Gideon  which was a good sign. I think she has to leave  because she was really mad and we need reason to kick Gideon Arse hard. Him fearing to death that Eva would not come back and forgive him forced him to open up to Dr. Petersen. What I dont like was Eva feeling like she cant forgive Gideon over that. She said Gideon took away that freedom .. errm did she forget Gideon gave her freedom back  when he killed Nathan . There was a part of me that I understand about Gideon , Him controlling everything means controlling the outcome. Time was an essence and things were moving fats one after the other. However , I think it was Evas' fault too. Her telling him she wasn't pushing  and we'll wait for him to be ready but deep down she was resenting him already so at the end of the day Eva was a ticking time bomb too. So I guess when she said about being honest, she should push Gideon even if they fight  because its the only way she can help him . Gideon would do everything for her  , hasn't she know it by now so she might as well used it .

I noticed yesterday (after listening to CBY) Eva was under Gideon's desk giving him a BJ when he was meeting with his technical team.  Gideon was angry because Lancorp stole his top tech.  Eva heard the whole conversation and said "Uh oh" when Gideon reprimanded the group.  How is it she didn't say anything to Gideon later when her boss was "requested" to head the LanCorp project.  Up to this point we hear that Eva is a good researcher for Mark.  How is it she didn't put together how big a competitor LanCorp is to Crossfire?  I get that the fight was the trigger that moved Gideon forward with his therapy but this is the first time Eva really p1sses me off.
