  1. "She wore a red strapless dress, showing off skin that was like rich pale cream," is something that jumped out at me in the excerpt. RED dress. Corrine also wore a red dress to Tableau One when Gideon met with her about the book. CBY describes " ... plunging neckline of her red dress." So I wonder -- did Corrine wear a lot of red years ago when she was with Gideon, and many of these pictures she has of them as a couple shows it? Is she trying to remind Gideon of that by wearing sexy red dresses now?

The first time Corrine "saw" Eva almost certainly would have been in photos on tabloid websites of the first time Gideon and Eva appeared in public as a couple. Which was walking into the Advocacy Center event. Eva was wearing a sexy red gown.

The color red has very special meaning for Gideon and Eva. What if Corrine succeeds in making Eva paranoid that Gideon's preference for red is just like Gideon's preference for brunettes? Tries to ruin for Eva the specialness of red. Eva thinks Gideon's past pattern of attraction to brunettes is because of Corrine. Before Eva, the only non-brunette she knows for certain Gideon slept with had red hair.

Eva doesn't know the true, dark secret that Hugh calculatedly instilled into Gideon a sexual fetish involving women with the same coloring as his (Gideon's) mother. And a twisted reason Gideon managed to get it up for Anne was because of her physical resemblance to Hugh, that Gideon was punishing Hugh symbolically by being depraved, not respectful, with Anne.

Of course it's possible that red dresses have nothing to do with Corrine and Gideon's past. Corrine has started wearing them when she plans to see Gideon as part of another deluded attempt to try to make herself attractive to Gideon. Her more sedate/refined dressing had not worked. It's only since this book thing has come up that twice now we readers have seen Corrine in red dresses.

All of this definitely made me think. I would hate for Corrine to take away something Eva considers special to her and Gideon. Then again, it could be that red was a color Corrine/Gideon liked in the past.

  2. Damned that Corinne, still throwing herself at Gideon at any possible moment (where is her self-respect?). I think that a part of Gideon still is praying she's not going to publish that book, and by being a bit acommodating there is still hope. If he rejects her everytime, she'll be even more desperate and the book will be published for sure (she is desperate for his attention).

The frosted glass surprised me as well, but D500 theory calmed me, and I think she is quite right.

I hope that's it because Eva handled that 100x better than I would have. I don't care how much I trust that Gideon wouldn't do something but enough it enough. Show her the door once and for all.

  3. I don't think Eva is in a position at her job that she is able to pick and choose the projects she wants to work on. She was just hired and is really in actuality an apprentice. I think she really had no choice and this was what she was coming to terms with in the days apart from Gideon. Sylvia is right when she said that the marriage was like a ball and chain for Eva. If they would have waited a couple of years to marry, Eva would have been able to establish herself in the advertising world or at least begin to build that reputation she clearly wants. Besides planning the wedding, i don't know what Sylvia has in mind for Eva but I hope it is something substantial because Eva can't spend her days waiting for Gideon to come home and f@&$ her or dealing with all of those crazy exes... What do you all think?

    no choice

    PREACH IT!

One of the things I loved about Crossfire versus other books was the difference between Eva and the other girls. Eva was smart, sassy, and independent. I hate that she has to change so much of her life but I don't feel like Eva in the first book would have quit for Gideon but I guess she has to change with the times.

  4. i totally agree with this! Maybe Elizabeth as Demi Moore and corrine as Natalie Portman. I see a little bit of Magdalena as MIla Kunis. I could see Mila being sassy in the girls bathroom. Luke Evans in Dracula looks soooooo much like Gideon, just a slightly older version. Especially in the final scene. I really don't see Henry Cavill as Gideon. He is very awkward in interviews and I saw a Woody Allen movie he was in and it was kinda hard to watch Henry's character. He rocked it in The Tudors though. Eva I am still thinking about, I honestly see her as myself lol. maybe thats why I disagree with everyone. Im about the same height and blonde, I'm also laughing at myself as I think that, so don't take me too seriously.

I agree with the awkwardness but he's just so cute! and I forgot about Demi Moore, she would play a great Elizabeth.

I wish I saw Eva as myself! I could play Corrine (eww i know)

  5. Yes, I thought so too.

Taking the role as Ana & Christian isn't the easiest part to play I think.

I was very surprised with how well everyone did.

I was surprised too that we didn't see or hear about Ana's job interview or getting the job especially since Jack Hyde plays such a big role in the second and third book.

  6. I just really thought after Gideons comments about her in CBY that he would be done playing her games. Frankly, I'm tired of it. Corrine is completely awful and selfish and Gideon needs to stand up to her and actually make an effort to keep her away or just tell Eva that Corrine isn't going anywhere. Sorry if that sounds harsh lol. I'm obviously very frustrated with Gideon and Corrine right now (regardless of how Corrine got in there or what Gideons motives are)

Plus Gideon kept the glass clear in CBY that one time because he didnt want Corrine to think she could stay long or that he had anything to hide from anyone. Guess he quit trying with that.

  7. DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVENT READ THE EXCERPT::

Why is Gideon indulging Corrine? Seriously, (from what it sounds like) his wife just really "took him back" and hes hanging off his desk talking with Corrine and looking at old photots. UGHH

  8. MOVIE ENDING SPOILER******

This was on Yahoo news about how EL James wanted the movie to end vs the director:

"As anyone who’s read the books knows, the first volume ends after Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) asks her wealthy lover, Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), to give her a good shellacking. When he obliges, she recoils and leaves him.

In the ending favored by James, who wrote the original film script with Kelly Marcel (Saving Mr. Banks), the final word in the film is “stop.†But in the ending favored by the director, which apparently came from a rewrite by Patrick Marber (Notes on a Scandal, Closer), the last word in the movie was “red,†which is used in the trilogy as a “safe word.â€"

  9. Corinne was there to see Gideon but I believe he refused to see her; he did have a lunch appointment which he never attended due to Nathan showing up that day. Corinne was surely disappointed and of course when she saw Eva she took advantage of the situation.

    Oh okay. That makes sense.

  10. Does anyone remember in RIY when Gideon fought Nathan but Eva thought he was "with" Corrine? Why was Corrine there and looking like that?

Sorry if this is a throwback. I was re-reading to take a break and got to that part and it hit me that I don't remember the answer.

I agree with you regarding Dakota.  In the book when Anna meets Christian the first time (I think it's the end of the book)  when she smiles he thinks to himself she is BREATHTAKING.  I know this will sound harsh but I do not find Dakota attractive and definitely not breathtaking.  Also her hair seems to be a mess throughout the entire movie from the scenes released.  I'm not 100% on board with Jamie as Christian but he is a good actor and I am getting use to seeing him in the trailer's.  As far as the descriptions in the book, the only actors that seen to fit are Kate (wasn't she a redhead in the book ?) and Christian's driver.  Can't remember his name, was it Jason(first or last name ?)  As of today I have no interest in seeing the movie.  I would like to keep my VISUAL from the book intact.

I agree. I also pictured Ana as sweet, dainty, and innocent looking and Dakota doesn't have that. Jason Taylor is the drivers name I think.

Hopefully the movie will prove us wrong about Dakota and the rest of the film.

  12. I liked Jamie as Christian but Dakota as Ana was throwing me off. She in no way looked like how I had pictured in my head. I ordered my tickets yesterday.

I heard the end was a "cliffhanger" of sorts because it ends with her leaving Christian like in the books.

Reading 50 shades was what introduced me to the Crossfire series. I finished 50 and had the worst book hangover so I googled books to read after 50 shades and that made me start my book affair with Gideon!

  13.

There was something very subtle at the very end of Chapter 5 that makes me think Gideon never told Arash about Nathan's killing, that he used other lawyers to deal with the police. When Arash joked "What have you got to hide" and Gideon joked back "Your corpse." I can't see Gideon joking with his friend about that if poor Arash knew he had to worry about homicide detectives. It makes sense, too, that Gideon would quietly hire criminal defense lawyers. Arash's specialty is in civil law: contracts, finance and such.

Great point. I don't think Gideon used Arash either. When Gideon said that I was shocked.
