It used to be really active, but then I started getting spammed like crazy. Ugh. Now the software seems to be more secure, so hopefully we'll get things hopping again. Hugs, Syl -

The thing I always ask myself when I've been hurt by a friend is if they meant to do it deliberately. If the primary goal was to cause me injury then the relationship is over. However if the primary goal was something else entirely and the secondary result was my pain, then I get over it. It's hard sometimes to realize that our personal feelings aren't the most important thing in the world, but it's true. There have been many times in my life when someone else's actions have hurt me. However, it's been very rare that those actions were deliberately planned with no other purpose in mind but to wound me. And that's what you have to keep in mind.

Oh, those naughty rakes. With their wicked winks, sensual smiles, and bad boy habits, you just can’t take them out in polite society. But who wants to go out when you can stay in…? STOLEN PLEASURES Sebastian Blake, Earl of Merrick, long ago fled the responsibilities of his title to become the infamous pirate, Captain Phoenix. But the booty he’s just captured on a merchant ship is a fierce tempered minx who claims to be a bride…his bride, married to him by proxy on behest of their fathers. He could shame his hated family and return his beautiful wife untouched, but no treasure has ever proved more tempting to Sebastian, and making their marriage a true one—in every sense—is his one urgent desire … LUCIEN’S GAMBLE Lucien Remington’s reputation as a debauched libertine who plays by no one’s rules—in business or the bedroom—is well deserved. He gets what he wants, social repudiation be damned. But society can keep from him the one thing he truly desires, the untouchable Lady Julienne La Coeur. Until she sneaks into his club dressed as a man and searching for her irresponsible brother. Suddenly she’s in Lucien’s grasp, his to take, and his mind is filled with the most wickedly sinful thoughts. A gentleman would walk away from the temptation she presents. But then, Lucien has never claimed to be a gentleman… HER MAD GRACE Hugh La Coeur never wanted to be the Earl of Montrose. Wine, women, and a hefty wager are preferable to responsibility of any kind. It’s certainly preferable to spending the night in an eerie, neglected mansion owned by a legendary madwoman. The duchess’s companion, the fiercely independent Charlotte, is another matter altogether. Hugh would be happy to spend as many nights in her bed as possible. He knows she’s hiding terrible secrets, but for once in his life, Hugh has the desire to take on someone else’s burden as his own, no matter what the danger… They’re mad, bad, and totally irresistible…

Getting to Know You!
Sylvia Day replied to Sylvia Day's topic in General Discussions and Introductions
Thank you, Shayne! What a great comment to wake up to. I'm glad to hear you're stopping by. Sometimes it's so quiet, I wonder who's out there. -
Have you ever noticed that watching movies with people whose company you enjoy can make a horrible movie a fun experience? There are some real lemons in my movie memories, but some of them have a soft spot in my heart just because the people who were with me when I watched the flick. Like when you bring your comedian friend (we all have one or two) and he/she cracks jokes about the really dreadful parts. Or your sarcastic friend (we all have one of those too) whose insults are riot. Is it just me? Or do you have fond memories of bad movies because of the people who were with you when you watched them.

This is a touchy subject for me, because honestly, I wish for everyone to succeed. I admit to pangs when I hear about news that I wish I was hearing for myself, but I'm always genuinely happy for the lucky party. This is why I have a hard time understanding people who become jealous and envious when their "friends" find success. I agree with Jordan that you have to be very careful. There are people who will gladly be your friend when you are in the same boat that they're in, but if you're fortunate enough to jump ship they suddenly become very distant. They will blame this on you, of course, and you will blame it on them. Either way, it sucks. Also you'll run into people who seem like they genuinely want to help you, but in reality they just want to see what you're up to with no intentions of offering assistance. It's a cut throat business and all that nonsense about romance writers being so nice and helpful is just that... nonsense. I've definitely become a hermit, but not due to paranoia. LOL Just because I'm busy. And yes, the online romance community is very high school. Misunderstands are very easy and there are obvious cliques. I learned the hard way to stick close to the people I trust.

I always sent out queries before the story was completed. It just takes too long to hear back to wait until I finished. But then I already knew that I could complete a story, so it was a given that I would finish before the request for "more" came. Doing this garnered me four contract offers in four weeks, so I highly recommend it. IF one can be certain that they will finish the book. It's amazing how many writers get the request for either "more" or revisions and then never follow through. Such a missed opportunity in a business where getting that request is very rare.
