Agree. After all, Eva hasn't pulled Corrine's hair. So far she's let him handle Corrine in his own way. He made need Eva's help in the end. Lol. It would be cool if he let Eva handle her closure with Brett.

Thinking about what several of you posted about Sylvia implying there's so much more to Monica's story, I have a feeling Eva is in more danger than her troubles with Nathan. And I think deep down, Eva knows it but she desperately seeks independence. She moved to NYC where her mom happens to be. She's a little dependent on her, knowing Monica and Stanton are close by. She feels super safe with Gideon in that he protects her and makes her feel safe. And she has to know what her mom keeps reiterating in that a guy with money and security teams at his disposal can do it. And everyone knows Carey protects her too. She even made reference to him not letting anything happen to her.

It's the darn not telling her. Wonder why all the secrets? If Eva knew, she could keep her own guard up. I can relate to this in my own life and can't imagine going around in the dark clueless. That's treating Eva like a child. She's getting stronger. Those days are over.

I think Gideon finds it hard to accept Eva's love, because, the two people who should have loved him left him alone. His dads suicide, and his mums abandonment.

His hurt, feeling unloved and alone, has caused him to build a wall around himself, so he won't ever feel like this again.

His desperate need and love for Eva, has caused him to lose his precious control, feelings that were alien to him have broken through that barrier. Every time she ran, leaving him, probably reminded him of his childhood, being alone again.

Now he has experienced these feelings, he doesn't want to let them go, afraid to let them go, but it is causing him an internal struggle.

Eva makes him feel alive, but his control has gone.

AND ADD THE FACT that because of his abuse, he has a viscous sleep disorder that has caused him to keep his distance. This is actually his first true relationship. He was afraid to get involved with anyone because he couldn't let them see his vulnerable side at night. Sigh.

I was thinking more along the lines of Brett and Deanna getting together.  Deanna can follow Brett on a "world tour" and she can report all of the band's escapades.  Problems solved:  Bye Bye Brett and Bye bye Deanna.

Is Gideon not afraid of losing control because the two people he loved was loved by let him down in such a big way first his father when he committed suicide and this struck me when he was having that conversation with Eva about Hugh and how Hugh's son would feel after he committed suicide something like he didn't love him enough to stay and second the betrayal by Elizabeth for all the reasons we've mentioned .Both of this events happened when he was a child and he had no control over the outcome they turned his life upside down and hurt him in unimaginable ways and now loving Eva the way he does takes him back to that point of vulnerability he escaped from and it scares him because in his experience he has no reason to trust love .I know what I'm trying to say not sure I'm getting it across.

I get your point and think you nailed it here. Both parents let him down. ADD THE FACT that Gideon has a viscous sleep disorder that has kept him from ever really getting close to anyone. He's afraid to love for many reasons. I'm glad he said to Eva one night way back that they 'deserve ..... after what they've been through.' That's so good for him to recognize.

I wonder if Gideon somehow hates the fact that he needs Eva's love (thereby making Gideon wholly human).  This is the first woman who truly has the capacity to devastate Gideon.  Eva is the first woman who has gotten a look behind the iron wall he built (as a matter of survival).  Do you know what I mean?

He does hate it. He said it in Chapter 1 EWY in the bedroom when he couldn't stay away from Eva and needed to know if she could be with him. What he feels for her is foreign and the control freak admits he may eff it up. Can't live with her. Can't live without her. Even though I'm mad at Eva for subconsciously stringing Brett along and securing another beat down for him, I'm proud of her trusting and waiting for Gideon as he opens up. In that sense, she's more mature via therapy.

At least Gideon recognizes that she's the love of his life. He does a good job of telling her and probably because he recognizes her low self esteem. I am just getting the love/hate thing in my head tonight and from the posts here. Wow. I have to rethink.

Great explanation of Gideon's personality and why he does what he does!  The next time I read the books I will keep that in mind.   

 

It is kind of sad to think that Gideon equates his love for Eva with a loss of control.  Love is supposed to set a person free; make them stronger, braver then they ever thought that they could be.  Has Gideon really accepted Eva's love?

GiGi you say this perfectly! Gideon is struggling. I know we loath Lizzy, but she raised a guy we're loving and pulling for.

I know I felt better after Sylvia explained.  I think Eva understands on some level that's why she wasn't too upset.  I wish I had taken notes when she was talking to me but I thought that would be rude.  It made so much sense and really made me look at some of Gideon's actions that made me crazy in the past differently.

I went to a writers convention that the authors opened up for fan meet and greets. I walked away not remembering anything other than the fact that Sylvia is so friendly and sweet. You did great remembering what you did!

Anybody think Gideon and Eva could hook Corrine and Brett up together? And in another country? LoL

The thing that I didn't get was the love/hate Gideon has with Eva. I thought it was cut and dry that he kept Eva in the dark about things to simply to protect her and keep her from worrying. I wasn't thinking of the angle that it's his independence in not 'needing' Eva... the not giving her another piece of himself. I feel sorry for Eva. She's an adult and I agree with her that if they are tracking her whereabouts and doing things for her that she should know. What would it have hurt for Gideon to call her from California and put her at ease? That was selfish to do to the new bride. But now I get it!

I've just had a vision of Gideon frothing at the mouth! And you with your bar of soap, which I agree, they both need. Their chat up lines stink, but then I'm of the older generation! but I'm not past it.

Eva has definitely sent Brett mixed signals, there's no doubting that. But Brett doesn't know of her reasons for doing what and why she did, all those years ago. He never got to know her, it was just sex to him. There was no dating, getting to know each other. And she put out, hoping to feel love and be loved. What man wouldn't take it, when its handed on a plate to him. Eva herself admitted she wanted to be the best that he got , so he wouldn't go with anyone else. He may have feelings for her but its not love.

The tape can't just show Eva having sex with Brett , there has to be shots of Brett in this encounter. How does he feel, knowing that he has been caught with his pants down! If Sam is using the tape, editing it, Brett must be in it too. This tape is good publicity for the song and the band. Brett's street cred will pull in a lot more groupies! If Brett doesn't know about it(but I think he does) and Chris is 100% in the know, I will eat a portion of crow pie! Again! Some of my theories suck! Hahaha!

Brett said way back that Eva just disappeared and that he always hoped she'd show up at a concert. When they were younger and sexual together, he didn't know why she was 'dropping to her knees' and about her abuse. He was just enjoying it. It only makes sense that those feelings for both have picked up a little where they left off. Eva needs to mature a little and quit playing games. Knowing men, I'm sure there's a part of Brett that wants to show Gideon and everyone that he can win the prize... his boss that kicked his a s s 's girl. Not gonna happen of course. I'm sure Gideon will be with her in SD one way or another.

Also, I don't think we have enough info to say whether Brett knew about that live footage for the real sex tape. I do think that Christopher has a hand in it, and is in on feeding info to his mom about. Oh gosh I can't wait for the next book. LoL

I am in the group that says Sylvia has ruined us. I too have reread... over and over. Now I'm listening to Audio of EWY. Have to giggle because the female reader doing Gideon's voice doesn't do it for me. In this whole crossfire journey, that's the only thing I wish diff. A male saying Gideon's lines. LoL

I was walking by a jewelry shop the other day staring at the engagement rings in the window, when it struck me how sweet the whole engagement ring thing was in the book. 

 

Gideon gave Eva his mom's ring which I would imagine he'd had for some time as part of his inheritance. Or, regardless of when took possession of it, he probably would have had access to it since he was 18, if not sooner.

 

Yet, when talking about Corrine, he said that he went into one jewelry store and picked out a random engagement ring that looks like her mom's. Gideon didn't give Corinne his mom's ring. Even at that age, still messed up inside his head, and however grateful he was for her love, he knew she didn't deserve his family heirloom. so sweet...

 

Not sure if anyone brought that up before in this forum, but ring connection just hit me, and it was yet more proof of how special Eva is to him. it made me smile.

I agree! Wonder how he got the ring? He can buy Eva any diamond ring on the planet, but he gave that one. He IS a romantic! So swee.

Wow!  What a sinister theory!!  It is positively delicious!  It makes Brett look even worse than I could have imagined!  Your theory presupposes that Brett would have known that he and Eva were being videotaped....wowie zowie! 

 

If your theory is true, do you think Brett would be able to stop Sam from selling that tape and cashing in on it?  How would Brett stop Sam exactly?  Any thoughts or ideas?

Sarah, Are you saying Monica doesn't realize she has an engagement ring? I took it that Monica meant a wedding band. She doesn't want Eva living with a man until she's got the band. I think she'd be happy to find out that they already married.

Eva just knows that her mom and she have some animosity on Eva's behalf and everything happened a little too fast. She wants things straight before that adventure. I am so glad they are married and a true team now against the world. Yayyyy again.

Can a little petite Corrine be 4 months pregnant and not know? Gideon said her husband thought it was his. If you're screwing around with your husband, another guy maybe and chasing Gideon you'd probably have a clue.

I was thinking that after the fight Brett decided he wanted to break-up E & G and get her back if for nothing more that to make Golden an even bigger hit.  The bonus of course taking her away from his boss.   Sooooo

 

He knew Sam had all those secret videos of groupies from 'back in the day' and had Sam look for footage of Eva.  Then based the muisc video on the actual scenes with the idea that a s*e*x video would be leaked or sold as soon as the music hit the air.  

 

He thinks that G broke-up with E as a result of the kiss and that now they may be getting back together.  So the 'live' tape would totally destroy any chances of reconciling the two.  And then he would be there to console Eva.    Hope that helps explain what I was trying to express.

Do you think that after everything that has happened that Eva is still angry over the fact that Gideon reached out to Corinne?  Eva is now married to Gideon.  She no longer has any reservations that some other woman can get her man.  Could it be that somewhere deep down inside Eva is afraid that Gideon might cheat?  Or is she still harbouring a grudge? 

 

Or could it be that Eva was just blissfully happy over the fact that she married the love of her life and she wanted to share that with people in a subtle way?  On principle I agree with you.  Eva shouldn't have texted Brett.  Nothing good could possibly come of that text.  What do you think?  What does everyone think?

I think Eva and Gideon are still kids when it comes to dating. They're mature beyond measure because of their abuse, but immature when it comes to relationships. Eva and Cary are not long out of college fun times and Gideon just worked all the time. I'm married to one of those CEO's LoL. I'm thinking back to that time in my life. I remember telling my now husband, I do what you do. You flirt. I flirt. You cheat. I cheat. That's terrible to admit, but it set the tone and we have that peace that Gideon and Eva are feeling. TRUST. Now with that said...

Yes, Eva is absorbing the fact that she's married and they truly belong to each other. Peace. But I think there's a side to Eva that's enjoying or flattered that the one she used to chase is now chasing her. Immaturity. SHE KNOWS Gideon is watching Brett, yet she's cutesy texting and going to meet-up in San Diego STILL. I think Gideon is setting the tone by clinging to the Corrine guilt and so Eva is subconsciously doing the same. They need to just stop (but then we'd have nothing to discuss!)

I think this is a lot of Lizzie Vidals problem with Eva; she is very jealous of the fact that Eva has such an emotional connection with her son and that she was actually able to break down his barriers and get to the truth and Eva supported him unconditionally something his mother apparently could not do... Oh when she finds out the truth she will have 100 times more guilt than Monica ever had because she continued to let that abuser into her home ...maybe she will finally realize why the Vidal estate makes Gideon's skin crawl!!!
