  1. I really don't think the detective is tricking Eva. So she told Eva her theory and to go back to Gideon. She didn't ask Eva any questions about what she knew to incriminate Gideon. We are seeing in the Snippets that Gideon and Eva are sneaking around, but I'm not getting why unless Gideon is trying to throw the detectives off, wanting them to doubt themselves... throwing them off beyond a doubt. Or maybe he did something else we don't know yet. We'll see.

I think the first book is about Eva 'running' and Gideon 'chasing.'

The second about learning to trust each other.

And I think the last will focus on Eva understanding Gideon's sacrifice for her and him facing his demons because of their love. We'll learn his past.

  2. AMC,

He was an obsessed sicko, so yes. Victor was around plus she and Cary are inseparable. If she were my daughter, she would have been guarded from a distance knowing that he was free. But I would feel good knowing dad and friend had her back.

But when someone wants to get you, they can and will given an opportunity. Only takes a minute when no one's looking. Gideon knew it was a matter of time.

  3. I would say Eva and Cary were encouraged to NYC so Stanton and Monica could watch over them fresh out of college. And the fact that Victor knows nothing. It's evident because of 'emphasis' on the expensive secure apartment building and how Eva feels responsible for her mom's guilt. Plus Stanton and Monica adore Cary. As a parent, it would be comforting to have him around to look out for her (I'm speaking from experience.) we want to think that the court system works and that Nathan would stay away. That's probably why Monica was stunned to see Nathan that day in front of the Crossfire. But when someone is sick, they'll find a way.

I think this next book will be more about Gideon opening up and less on the murder.

  4. Remember when Eva asked Gideon at the estate who the two guys handing him the keys were? He said his security detail scrambled when he took off so fast for Eva. I think fom Day 1 Gideon had Eva trailed because of his position in the business world and his craze for her. I think he discovered Eva was being stalked and lured Nathan indirectly with the publicity antics. Of course it ended up worse than he bargained for. Anyway, Gideon admitted he saw pics of Eva. I'm sure it brought Gideon pain in more ways than one: from his rapes AND seeing his love being. I'm sticking with him piercing Nathan's heart in one fierce blow. I don't think he would risk scheming with others. AND it's personal.

AND I DO think that Gideon and Stanton are keeping a lot from their ladies.

  5. GiGi,

Gideon broke my heart in the car when he begged Eva not to leave him... shaking and trembling with no tears. Every now and then he blurts out an insecurity: 'Maybe you'll like me again' and when he asked her to repeat what she said in the car after he opened up about Christopher Jr. She's getting him to open up slowly but surely. I think he will when he sees that she still wants him after 'what I did' as given in a snippet.

I teach little 6-year-olds in a private school with some prominent families that I've had to intervene on children's' behalf. People that we are intertwined with in business and such outside of school. I have a fourteen-year-old daughter/only child whose father and I watch over and protect. I could go on and on with the correlations. This story hits too close to home and is right on. I'm obsessed!

  6. GiGi, Eva needed to look some people in the face to to see if her gut instincts were right. Gideon told her that he liked when she fought for him and I think she was killing two birds with one stone that day of her crusade. She was confronting his past to get answers AND doing what his mother should have done for little boy Gideon.

Gideon has a track record for following Eva and chasing her and I think she as much as knew he would that day. Remember how she kind of triumphed in the elevator soaking up the man in the suit that came and took her away from the Doctor's office.

In her mind they were not together but as Gideon declares, they never broke up. I think the car ride was a bonus to talk to him and tell how this arrangement wasn't working for her, mostly because of the secret behind it.

Now remember, I am married to a Gideon and I can tell you that when she turned her back to him in the car and went silent... she knew it would get a reaction. My Gideon is super busy, says I drive him crazy and probably misses half the stuff I say- but the minute he thinks he's being ignored, I have him eating out of the palm of my hand. I don't abuse this, only as a last resort LOL. Shhhh our secret.

I do think Gideon killed for her, in that Nathan was getting desperate. That's evident in a EWY snippet. But even if he had someone else do it... he'd go to jail. Don't rule Stanton out. Little is said about his dealings/relationship with Gideon. I'm sure he had his hand protecting Eva while in college and until Gideon.

I'm nervous that as other men come back into her life, Gideon may act out again and we don't want that. We want their happily ever after.

  7. GiGi You're right. I never thought about him saying that to Arnoldo ( which is my real life brother's name btw) I think he is saying I love you, just a thought that maybe in another language where it isn't used to describe as broadly and for every little thing like we throw it around in English. There are languages that use different words to show affection for say my love of shoes or chocolate. My family is tri-lingual on both sides and we have discussed this before. Americans say "love" for everything and too broadly. That's all. But I think he's saying it, just packed with fear, so he's whispering it.

I meant she worked him over in that, she knows from her experience how to get Gideon to open. One doesn't go through the she did, followed by all the steps to recovering and dealing without learning from it. Look how she helped/helps poor Carey. She even told Gideon in the first book that sometimes it takes an all nighter to get Carey to open up. I didn't mean it in a negative way, just that she knows just what Gideon needs and she's doing it through and along with her own suffering. She was on a mission that day she ended up in Gideon's car in the rain. She's the perfect girl for him, and visa versa.

God, I can't wait for the next book! ☺

  8. Lots of interesting and insightful things since I was last on here. Just a few thoughts...

Gideon is cultured (speaks Italian and maybe more) so he maybe mumbling a word in another language for LOVE that isn't used for everything so loosely like we use the word love in ENGLISH... or he could be whispering exactly that: I Love you because he's chicken. LoL

Gideon may think he's in control, but Eva has faced her demons through years of therapy and is working on making Gideon face his in a round-about-way. She's wise beyond her years because of her past and Gideon's going to face his past whether he likes it or not. And she knows how to get men to want her (her mom's the master.) Eva and Gideon need each other. She worked him good that day she went on the crusade his mom should have done when he was a child. And that car ride was some intense therapy. She knew if she turned her back he would freak. Doesn't it break your heart when they blurt out an insecurity every now and then?

I'm married to a Gideon and this book freaked me out. I too have read it over-and-over.... never have I done that in my life. I've probably learned some things by reading it too. Sylvia is amazing. I can't sing her praises enough.

  9. This iPad doesn't let me respond to a specific post, so I'll just make another general comment. I come from a family in law enforcement and my granddad was a well-known detective in Montreal.... detectives and police develop a sixth sense. Remember when Victor answered Eva's door? The detectives asked him if he was on duty or something to that effect. They sensed what he was AND they are loyal to other officers. There's no way he didn't pick up on EvA's reaction and just went back across the country. He probably may have even got some insight from the police that we don't known about yet. When he finds out the secret.... look out. OMG I'm getting excited all over again!

  10. LN Cronan:

It was only when BTY was first released and I told Sylvia I wanted Corinne to disappear, feeling Eva's jealousy. LoL.

Corinne and Magdalena are just enjoying being near Mr. Untouchable and are agitating Eva because Gideon hasn't cut them off. I have a cute husband that women flirt with and he's usually oblivious ... or knows better to not to act on it... and visa versa. It's a respect thing, and Eva feels her place isnt being acknowledged. I feel for Eva. . These women are driving we readers CRAZY! Lol

Sylvia must laugh at our theories! We'll know how it unfolds in time. Whatever happens will be awesome because Sylvia is.

  11. We shouldn't forget the time frames when thinking up scenarios. G & E went at it hard and in a short period of time. When looking at our posts, there wasn't enough time for some of these folks to come together and scheme. I do think Victor's instincts as a policeman and father will have him digging deeper. Policemen are trained to size things up quickly. I can't wait to the tenth power!

  12. Gideon told Eva that he saw an opportunity and he took it. He Insinuated in the car ride on that rainy day

that there's a side to him that he fears Eva wouldn't like. AND in the New Year's EIY teaser, Gideon refers to 'what I did.' That all points to him getting rid of dangerous Nathan before Nathan hurt or killed Eva. We'll see!

  13. I never thought of Christopher blaming Gideon if HE was abused too. Very well could be. Gideon keeps saying it's because he got all the attention. Hmmmmm

I want Gideon to have another showdown with the rock star and I want a Cross/Lucas beat down. Gideon wouldn't break a sweat. Lol. Jeez. I can't wait for the book!!!

  14. Christopher may have been abused too. Remember he was acting up too and the mom sought therapy when she became pregnant for her daughter and all. Eva didn't tell of her abuse. Maybe Christopher, who was younger than Gideon, just didn't tell. I teach six year-olds at a private school of mostly prominent families and this topic hits such a nerve with me. It's my duty to report signs etc. and I've had to. Sickening and heart wrenching.

  15. Of course we don't want to believe Gideon or anyone would kill, but I'm not ruling it out. The detective said Nathan was to the point that he was going going through Eva's trash-the point where an obsession is deadly. How many parents say and know in their hearts that they would kill to protect their child. I think Nathan threatened Eva, Gideon or their families and Gideon knew it was a matter of time that in that one moment when Eva or one of them was out of his protective eye, Nathan would harm. Kind of like the saying, "I'm going to kill you." And the other person says, "Not if I kill you first." We'll see. ONLY SYLVIA AND GIDEON KNOW :)
