It's so much fun here with each of us trying to find hidden meanings in pieces of the plot. Which pieces are "red flags" -- clues that foreshadow something to come. Which pieces are "red herrings" -- clues deliberately meant to mislead a reader. Red herrings are an especially common literary device in mystery situations: they're the means to twist the plot.

 

Sylvia's especially good with the red herrings, and she's very subtle with the red flags. So we can twist ourselves every which way trying to theorize which is which, and if the clue is a red flag, where is it leading.

 

An example of red herrings are two phone calls Eva placed to Gideon the week Nathan was murdered.

She called him at home Tuesday night, and she called him on his cell phone Saturday morning. Both times, it was apparent he wasn't alone. We were led to believe at the time he probably was with Corrine, and it was even possible that he was sleeping with her. I mean, why else would he have her over to his apartment at night while Eva was tied up at the hospital. And why would he be with her early Saturday morning? We later found out in the book Gideon was at the police station on Saturday morning, and in response to a spoiler question, Sylvia confirmed he was meeting with his security people at his apartment Tuesday night.

 

An example of red flags are the fact both Magdalena and Eva got makeovers that included sophisticated haircuts.

I mean, why even bother filling up space in Bared to You about the fact Magdalena cut her hair after she gave up on Gideon. Why even bother having Eva explain to Gideon why Magdalena had worn her hair the way she had and why she'd suddenly changed. Because it helped set the stage for the part in Reflected, where Eva started turning into "new Eva." Why is the whole Saturday "spa day" important? And why did it matter that right after the makeover, Eva went out on the town that night, running into the Vidals. Sure, part of it was the set up for the showdown Eva had with Gideon's mother. But why have Christopher there too, telling her she looks gorgeous, and even dancing with her? Is it any mistake that the following Monday, after weeks of absolutely no contact, Gideon corners Eva in an elevator at the Crossfire, pulls the promise ring she returned out of his pocket, puts it back on her hand and tells her "wait." Nope. He found out she'd done something a woman who is moving on often does, improves her appearance. And I'll bet it was via a phone call from Christopher over the weekend, twisting the knife, not simply Gideon looking at the lobby cameras Monday when Eva arrived.

 

Why was Gideon carrying the ring that Monday? Why was he risking even approaching Eva in the building? If we were to get into his head, we'd probably find out he was scared. Because Eva had just done the same sort of thing Magdalena had done the instant Magdalena finally threw in the towel, letting Corrine win and walking away for good.

Someone else had posted their thought that maybe Gideon was worried about her moving on also b/c of the interview Brett had given that Cary showed Eva. Saying that he wanted to try and reconnect w/ her. I think that couldv'e been another reason why he gave her back her ring.

I wonder how Gideon found out Eva spoke to his mother? Did Elizabeth call him and tell him...asking what he's said to her? Or Christopher mabye saw how upset he was after speaking to Eva, maybe?

I think that Gideon started his search for Nathan as soon as Eva told  him what he did. He went to Stanton the next day for info. He probably got what he needed to start his search. The pics of Gideon and Eva probably lured him to NY...for sure...if he wasn't there already.. Maybe he had a google alert set for Eva as well...

 

If anyone on Gideon's team knew that Cary was beaten that night, they def had a way of letting Gideon know. He had his cell w/ thim for the whole 10 hour ride to NC..Eva's was at her apartment...but I'm sure the driver had one...and Angus before him.

Also, I think that Gideon did have clothes at the house for Eva..he just didn't let her have them until they left...lol..I mean, he had all her usual cosmetics there..he had to have clothes! Even for himself lol...and they probably flew back b/c that was the plan orginaly going down.

I don't think that Nathan set out to kill Cary...just beat him and givee him the warning to 'stay away from her'...

 

I feel Christopher will def be a problem in EWY... Gonna put the Krav Maga to use! 

 

What about Brett? A problem ,or just sad that he wants to try again w/ her. I kinda feel bad for him...although she told him straight out that they weren't going to happen, but Sylvia said he'll be back. Maybe Eva will play matchmaker w/ him and Magdalena! lol...

I think that if Gideon spent any time at all with Corinne, it was strictly at public functions where the two of them could be photographed together, thereby bolstering his alibi. If Gideon couldn’t spend any extended alone time with Corinne, sexual or otherwise, I don’t believe that he was going to start now, especially when he doesn’t have those feelings.

I agree with that. I think it was just in public. Maybe he's trying to help her meet someone new! lol. No way he would lead her on...especially b/c he doesn't want her, he only wants Eva.

i think we'll have to agree to disagree on our conclusions.  i think gideon is an honest guy.  he's working desperately throughout reflected to get eva to trust him completely.  he's also not very 'chatty' when it's not about sex, so i can't imagine him offering corinne much more than a "don't worry about eva" or "eva is non of your business" line if she were to question him.  and when would she do all this questioning?  while he's at work and can easily avoid her calls?  when they are at events and he's bombarded with people bidding for his attention?  he might be spending his free time with corinne, but it's all spent in public so to attract attention.

 

corrine's behavior is evidence to me that she does not think gideon and eva are over.  if she thought she had him she wouldn't have to make eva jealous.  she's still playing games and trying to push eva out.

 

i think gideon's behavior is being overanalysed.  he's a man, and in such his motives are very simple.  he says he wants eva and all his actions are working to that end.  even nathan is easy - he wants eva and money, and he is working towards those goals.  it's the females of the story who are stirring the pot and causing friction (eva included).

I also think that Corrine def just mussed herself up right before she stepped out of the Crossfire when she saw Eva. A woman who is always put together so well as she is, wouldn't let herself be seen w/ smeared makeup/lipstick and messed up hair. I'm sure she always looks perfect. So, that was def for Eva b/c i'm sure she went ot speak to Gideon but got turned away.

although i am curious about raul's appearence at that time.  i'm really starting to like angus

Let's not forget that Raul was there to pick up Eva at 4:45am...maybe that was just a little too early for Angus! Hehe

I like Angus too...I def think he's a big important part in Gideon's life...and now will be for Eva too.

I don't think that Gideon has said much of anything to Corrine...probably the bare minimum. I hope that their only interactions are public ones...although that day at the Crossfire when Eva saw them outside annoys me..lol..Prob just for the security cameras ... They probably haven't had any alone time. It still get's me that Corrine was trying to make like Gideon was in her apartment when Eva went to see her...She blew that though when she asked Eva if Gideon knew that she was there...so, obviously Gideon wasn't.

 

I love reading everyones opinions on here...even though i want to stop coming on this site b/c June is so far away! Even the snippets are a bit of torture!

I'd think that Nathan was outside of the Crossfire the second time b/c Gideon would have told security to not let him in again. Maybe to see Eva b.c Gideon and Stanton weren't giving in to his demands. Could you imagine if Eva ran into him in an elevator? I'm sure Gideon wouldn't want that to happen. Eva never follows up on the video again after asking Gideon about it. Wonder why? She just forgot?

Also, is it a coincidence that Gideon took Corrine to Tableau One that Mon to be photographed? Is it b/c he hasn't spoken to Arnoldo since that Fri. and maybe he needs him to think that he and Eva are over too? B/c of all the places to take her, he takes her to his friend’s restaurant after all that mess after the concert.

 

I saw that book but decided not to read it because the synopsis reminded me of a book I read and did not enjoy "The Marriage Bargin" by Jennifer Probst. Have you read it does it compare?

 

But getting back to Sylvia/Crossfire, I hope there are more books. I actually enjoy reading GOOD series such as this. But then again I hope not because I want to I want to know everything about Gideon, his family and secrets NOW! lol.

No, haven't read " The Marriage Bargin'. Not so great? I just read another book 'Collide'...that of course...is a series w/ the sequal not to be released until May...lol...I really don't know why I do this to myself. I guess I'm looking for another good book, it's got a lot of great reviews...and I've gotta read em! Also, books for $3.99 or less on Kindle is great too.  Still dying for June for this release. Just hope the 4th book comes out shortly after...You think that she's done w/ book 4 considering book 3 was supposed to be out in Dec?

I don't think it was Monica. She probably could have done it, but Gideon pretty much admitted that he did it in the NYE excerpt from his POV. Then Eva saying that he's got 'proverbial blood on his hands'.

 

I just wanted to mention a book I've just read that I thought was pretty good.

Beauty from Pain by Georgia Cates. 

It's got the Hottie multibillion/millionare, young beautiful girl he makes an offer to she can't refuse. IT was $3.99 on Amazon Kindle. Good story,quick read. only thing is that's its a series too...w/ the second book not being released until May Darn these series! Why can't they all just be released shortly after the other! lol. I really hope the wait for the 4th Crossfire book isn't going to be ridiculous.

Omg...Sylvia keeps saying that 'There's more story to tell' when anyone asks if there's going to be a fourth book. I really hope that they aren't released too far apart if that's true. Waiting is torture to find out what's happened lol

Hey all...just wondering if anyone else had songs in mind for Gideon and Eva?

I'm really liking 'Fix You' by Vita Chambers. Just seems so passionate :)

Twitter is where Sylvia interacts with fans most frequently. And speaking off, last night on Twitter, she hinted that the Crossfire series might go beyond three books. A fan asked her whether Entwined In You would be the final book. Sylvia's exact words in response were "There's still room for Eva and Gideon to grow"

Oh boy...if this is true, I hope the 4th book comes out quicker than the third. Maybe a month after Entwined is released??? lol

Syliva hasn't made any responses here in a long time lol. We've got so many theories! 

Gigi, I don't think the videos Nayhan made of Eva is from the rape. I think that throughout the years, Nathan followed Eva and got videos of her during her bad time, before she started therapy. Eva says that she had a time that she was really behaving really bad, so I think that was it and then Nathan always followed her.

That's a good thought Teresac. I thought the pics and video were of Eva while Nathan was abusing her. But you're right, mabye they are from her behaving badly days. Victor def is going to figure out what happened, cop or not, he's her father and as a parent, you want to know why your child reacted the way she did. I could see a blow-up w/ Victor and Monica b/c she kept that info from him.

Reading all these other comments is making me rethink the detectives motives...i was just really hoping she was being nice ...lol..maybe Eva's situation is personal to her in some way. I know that cops don't really get to choose what happens in open cases....but they could just not do anything about it. Let it go cold.If the only person who cared about Nathan was his father, and he considered him dead years ago, there's no one really to answer to. no one to really push the case. I didn't think she'd really throw out her notes tho..Idk what to believe! lol

I can't believe the release date got pushed again tho...shouldn't it have been ready if it was supposed to be released in Dec? I don't get  it lol. I don't think I would have started the series if I knew it wasn't complete. Hopefully a happy ending!

Okay, so maybe it will come out that Nathan was at the office that day when Gideon and Eva talk about Nathan.

I have to look at the sealing process. Since Eva was a minor I am not sure that her name would be listed there. She might just be listed as a "complainant". I'm sure Victor is smart enough to put two and two together though.

I am sure both Corrine and Christopher are opportunists. They will do whatever necessary to get what they want. That Krav Maga will come in handy at some point I am sure. 

I don't think it was odd that Christopher met Eva for lunch. She called and asked him to meet, and he wants what Gideon wants.

Sylvia has already said that Eva and Gideon are not ready to have babies, so I doubt we will have a pregnancy.

I think Syliva has already said that is is Nathan at the office that day. I hope they have a happy ending   I wonderif the book is already done, just can not be released for some reason. She's got all of these snippets. I like the NYE snippet from Gideons POV too..It's nice to see what he's thinking.
