 I don't think that sending security with Eva is an indication that Gideon doesn't love her. I feel that Eva expects Gideon to do that. I do think if Gideon insists on going with her that could indicate that he doesn't trust her. To me, that would be ridiculous especially since he just left her at the hospital and then flew to California without talking to her.

 I think Elizabeth was shocked that Eva was engaged to Gideon. I think she would have grabbed Eva's hand regardless of what kind of engagement ring she was wearing. The fact that Gideon gave Eva her old ring just made it clear and without question who gave her the ring and what it means.

 I think the government can put a lien on all assets to attempt to repay the people who lost money.

 I feel the same way. If my child said anything about being abused I would remove the treat even if I couldn't confirm the accusations.Â

 GiGi,    According to Gideon Jean Francois is a good guy who loved his wife but it became difficult for him to live with the memory Corinne had of Gideon. I think JFG still loves his wife but he didn't know how to deal with his wife's continually comparing him to Gideon. I don't think Corinne was always an evil person but she was evil in the way she treated Eva and, in the Gideon. She knew what it would do to Gideon if she tried to kill herself. We saw Gideon say he thinks he is cursed.  As far as her husband knowing she was pregnant he was probably so frustrated that he wasn't paying close attention to her. He was most likely throwing himself in his work to keep him busy. I didn't hardly have an morning sickness with my first two children. I think they were a couple in trouble and my guess is the last time they had sexual relations was when Corinne got pregnant.  I feel bad for both of them but especially JFG because he didn't know how to deal with his wife. I only feel sorry for Corinne before she came to NY. It is a shame that she couldn't appreciate the life she had.

 I honestly think Eva is going to talk to Brett because she wants to find out what he knows about the sex tape. I feel like she hates Gideon taking on all the pressure she is bringing to their relationship. I don't have a problem with her thinking Brett is sexy I see a lot of men that I think a nice on the eyes...we see some posted on this website but that doesn't mean I would cheat with them. Eva loves Gideon, who is the sexier man in her eyes (and mine too). She feels so responsible that she questioned if she should even have the Cross name. She will do fine, IMO .

-    I have to disagree with both of you. I love Eva in this book (I've loved her all along) She is strong and working to support her man. I think we see a different side to her, she still has flaws that she is dealing with, but she is a good person and she will do the right thing in the end. After all that they have gone through there is no way that she will hurt him by having an affair with Brett. She may have to take him down with her Krav Maga skills but she will do the right thing.

 I think it is a good thing for Eva to go to SD and I think it is good if she goes without Gideon. He needs to show he will trust her just like he expects her to trust him.

 I hear what you are saying but every time Gideon responds to her it gives her hope for more. He should have called Giroux and got him involved. Not sure that would have made as interesting a story but it is still what he should have done. I do so hope he doesn't continue the back and forth with Corinne in book 4 and/or 5

Favorite line from this chapter  "You're what drives me, Eva. Can you understand that? You're my heart and soul. If something ever happened to you, it would kill me, too. Keeping you safe is goddamned self-preservation! Tolerate it for me, if you won't do it for yourself."  I guess it is almost a favorite paragraph but it makes my love affair with Gideon grow.

I loved this chapter (I say that about every chapter but I can't help it.)  Like everyone my heart broke when Gideon told Eva that he had an apartment next door. I knew that leaving Eva hurt Gideon but I can't imagine him being next door. So close and yet so far away. When he said "It ripped me apart seeing how hurt and angry you were. Knowing I was causing you pain and that you were pulling away from me...It was for us both, but I couldn't take the risk that you might become a suspect." I sighed. It must have taken so much control for Gideon to hold back night after night.  And when the light went on for Eva that he was protecting her completely and that he was continuing to protect her must have released a tremendous burden from her.  When Eva sank to the floor Gideon immediately thought she was angry because he was following her. When, in fact, it was all becoming clear to her the danger she was in from Nathan and all that Gideon did to protect her.  One question I had in this chapter is did Eva accept the "girls night out" request because she still wasn't solid with what happened between her and Gideon? She could have said she couldn't because of other plans. She knew a night out would include looking for a rebound guy. I know whe wanted to support her friend but Megumi has other friends including her roommate.  I hated that the chapter ended by re-introducing Brett Kline. I just don't like what this means for the future.

 Excellent possibility. I didn't think about that. I have to go back and read Gideon's talk with Eva. He did say he wished he had fought more but it didn't hurt that much. Is he just kidding himself? He certainly sounds like he is in pain in those dreams.  Â

 I agree. I think that is one of the reasons that Gideon continues to visit Corinne--he feels guilty for what he did. That said, he needs to leave her alone. He should let her husband deal with her. IMO he should have called Giroux when Corinne was having problems and let him deal with the medication issue. Gideon makes the problem worse.

 I agree that Anne is most likely Corinne's dr. I think I posted that early on but I think Gideon's abuse went on for a couple years. He is too smart not to know Anne if she was the doctor coming to his house. Once he found out Hugh was her brother, he would have let her know somehow. He told Eva that he understands now that he loves Eva why Lucas would help his wife. I don't think he would have said that if Anne was the shrink.

I have a question that I hope wasn't asked before -- I have such a good time talking about your books and these characters here. I thoroughly enjoy all the people I met on this site. Sylvia did you ever expect your books would be analyzed as much as we do here? Does it offend you that we are so often so far off from the story you have in your head? I love that you surprise me when I'm sure I know what is going to happen and then you go a different way.  Love these books and characters.

 I agree I just don't think Gideon was submissive. I think they were equals and Gideon was accepting Eva's help to continue healing his past.

 I don't believe that Anne was the psyc. Wouldn't Gideon know her? He said he ignored her advances until he found out she was Lucas' wife. He was only going to be with her one time but continued because it hurt Dr. Terry. It seems to me if he knew Anne was his doctor he would have reenacted one of his dreams for her.Â

  Interesting observation. I thought he did that to lighten her mood and have her photographed with a smile instead of concern. There are other things that made me crazy with Gideon but not that.

 I don't think Gideon was submissive.  I think that is why he turned them on their sides so they would be equals. He was submissive in the abuse but not with Eva.

 I'm trying to catch up on all the posts I missed yesterday and this morning but I had to respond to this one.  I agree with you completely. I was surprised by the number of people who didn't like Gideon giving Eva his mother's ring.  I think it is an honor to receive something so special from my husband. I gave my son the ring my husband gave me for his wife. (My husband passed away from natural causes.) His wife loves it. They had a wedding band made that fit around the ring and the two look beautiful together.  I hate the idea of giving things away in a will after death. I want to see my kids enjoy my things while I'm still alive.  It is a beautiful gift from Gideon and she loves it and that is all that matters. The fact that it threw Elizabeth for a loop is just icing on the cake.

 There is no way a detective is going to plant evidence like that if they want it to hold up in court. Graves had the murder theory and the Russians didn't figure in it. This completely threw a wrench in their theory and basically closed the case. That is why Gideon is concerned. Who knows he killed Nathan and what are they going to do with that information.

I know but he was at the door. He had to get in a car and get to the airport. In all that time he couldn't send Eva a quick text. Called out of town ... emergency. I'll call you. I don't think that was too much for a wife to expect.
