  1. What about the room in Gideon's house that is an exact replica of Eva's?  Do you think he would have to get rid of that room?  If they get a search warrant, they may get one for Eva's house also.  That would look very incriminating of the fact that they are truly a couple, or Gideon is a real wacko and stalker.  Why else would he have a room that is an exact replica of Eva's.  Some food for thought.

I don't know that he would have to get rid of it.  The room is something he did for Eva when they were together.  What I think would be nice is if Corrine came to Gideon's apartment for a decision about his intentions and Eva let her in (maybe Gideon has an early meeting) and Eva was in that just F$#@d state.  What goes around comes around but Corrine would know Eva wasn't staging a performance.

  2. I'm curious.  Does everyone think there is going to be a trial?  Or does the majority feel that the case is going to go cold?  Personally I would like a trial and have Gideon acquitted.   If there is a trial it will be a long one and, most likely, require a whole book.

  3. NO, Gideon can't go back to Eva yet. But he doesn't HAVE to stay with Corrine any more. In fact, it might be more plausible if he quit seeing Corrine and spent some time "unattached."

I don't think so either...just wishful thinking.  It would be too dangerous for Gideon to jump back in Eva's arms publicly.

  4. The more I think about this, the more I think (hope) our least favorite brunette is buh-bye sooner than later. Like maybe Day Two of Entwined.

And not just because Gideon 1. doesn't want to cause another minute of pain to Eva and 2. the cops aren't buying the Corrine lie anyway, so he doesn't have to keep it going.

"Plausible deniability." That legal term Gideon's mentioned, something that's a fancy way of saying "lack of evidence."

Bear with one of my mini lessons in how the U.S. justice system works, per the way the U.S. Constitution set up the protections citizens have against the government, when the government seeks to criminally prosecute citizens.

    • The government (the prosecution side of the trial) has the "burden of proof." That side always has the uphill battle of proving to a jury the defendant is guilty.
    • The defense does NOT have to prove the defenant is innocent. In fact, technically the defense doesn't have to lift a finger. This is why, among other things, people have the "right to silence." The suspect doesn't have to convince the cops -- and ultimately the jury -- that he/she is innocent. The prosecution has to do all the work.
    • In practice, the defense is very active in trials -- busy punching holes in the prosecution's case. Under the "right to face an accuser" the prosecution has to put its witnesses on the stand, and then the defense gets to question them too.
    • Usually, the defense will put its own witnesses up as well, witnesses to sow doubts about the prosecution's side of the story. Witnesses who can convince the jury that something else happened, not what the prosecution claims happened.
    • The defendant himself/herself does NOT ever have to testify. If the defense does not put the accused on the stand, for tactical reasons, then the judge has to pretty much bend over backwards to explain to the jury the jury cannot hold that against the accused in any way.
    • Because there's a very good reason why defendants sometimes do not take the stand -- they don't have to face questions from the prosecutor. If a defendant does take the stand, he/she gives up the right to silence, and the prosecutor gets to ask him/her questions.

OK, with all of that in mind, how could this all apply to the fake Corrine-Gideon-Eva triangle?

    • Gideon does NOT have to prove he loves Corrine.
    • Gideon does NOT have to disprove he loves Eva.
    • The cops/prosecutors are the ones who HAVE to prove Gideon loves Eva.
    • If they cannot prove Gideon loves Eva, then Gideon has "plausible deniability" he loves her.

I think that when Gideon started taking out Corrine again, and he set up the party as an alibi, he was hoping that between the two, the cops would quickly eliminate him as a suspect. Other people who loved Eva enough to conceivably kill for her -- like Eva's mother -- also had motive. Why would he have motive if he had already dumped her? Going out with Corrine just made it more believable he dumped Eva. He didn't dump Eva for the ###### of it, he dumped her for Corrine.

Gideon's got a couple of alternative believable reasons why he dumped Eva while Nathan was still very much alive:

    • He never was in love to begin with -- Eva was just some hot summer fling that burned itself out in a few weeks, and the fling was already over before Nathan got killed.
    • He had been in love, but Eva broke his heart by "cheating" on him with Brett. He walked away from her broken-hearted well before Nathan got killed.

So do you think that by day 2 Gideon is publicly back with Eva?  According to the one snippet she is out dancing pretending to be single.  I noticed that a few snippets are from Chapter 1/1.5 so they aren't necessarily in order.   Maybe the dance is day 2 and they decide to go public again.  I hope.  I want them to be together and working on their issues instead of apart (in appearance only) and working on their issues.

  5. Right now I can't look at the exact wording but when eva walked into the apartment there was music on in Carey's bedroom. She assumed someone was in there with him. I'm wondering when Gideon showed up was someone still in Carey's room

It wasn't mentioned yet but I assume there is.  I think Eva will check and give an all clear before Gideon leaves.

  6. Gideon did the deed but I still have a feeling Monica and Stanton knew about it

I agree with you...I think.  All indications are that Gideon did it.  I don't hate him if he did, in fact, I completely understand it.  Monica has to be involved somehow even if it is just that fact that she knows what he did.

  7. I'm actually near Orlando. I'm staying overnight. Do you follow Maryse's blog? You know Sylvia is arranging a meet and greet the Friday night before right?

No I didn't know and I don't know this blog.  I just started reading Sylvia's books and found this site the other day when I searched for the release date of the next Crossfire book.

  8. Here is the post

The chapter is up ladies!!!! I know I've been gone for a while, but I have a 4 year old, and a 9month old. I was at Summerset and meet with Sylvia. My hisband was the second man in the room that night and I have additional information to share as I spoke with Sylvia through out the day of the event. Nothing giantic, but nothing that I've seen on the board yet.  I will say, I walked away thinking Monica is involved a lot more than we every realized.

    I

  9. Someone else posted in another thread her husband was one of two men in the room ;)  Anyway she said she got the impression Monica played a bigger role with Nathan. Did you get that impression?

Yes.  So maybe Gideon is trying to protect Monica because he doesn't want Eva hurt by losing her mother.

  10. A good lawyer could turn around Eva's admission that she dumped Gideon on Saturday.  It isn't unusual for someone to be involved with two people at the same time.  The Lawyer could say Eva finally had enough and said this is it.  I can't wait any longer for you to make a decision.  ...Or something like that.

agreed. I can't wait to see how this unfolds.

OK someone posted on one of the other threads that she talked to Sylvia at a meet and greet and Sylvia indicated that Monica was involved in the Nathan murder more than people think.   That will put a whole different twist on everything.

  11. Hi,

I hope not. That will be one chapter I'll be going through a box of tissues with if that ever happened. I don't even want to think about that. After reading LN's theories and everyone else's I don't think there will be enough to arrest him & don't forget Graves messed up when she talked to Eva without a lawyer and got Eva to admit she dumped Gideon on saturday after nathan was already dead.

  12. Ok I am so lost. Why does Gideon not like Dr. Lucas again?

We don't know the whole story yet but he didn't confirm the abuse when Gideon reported it.  His mom took him to be examined by Dr. Lucas and Lucas said he didn't see any indication of abuse. Hopefully we will find out more in Book 3

  13. So no public outings? Eva can't flaunt Gideon to all those catty B words! I don't like that they have to hide. I honestly hope SY doesn't make us wait to long for next book.

I so agree with this Mrs. C. I can't wait till Eva can FLAUNT Gideon also ...I'm sure it will be killing her and us too!!! I want her to say HE'S MINE to all those bi$ches!!!

This is a little disappointing but my fear is that you are right.  I wanted some resolution in Book 3 so they can move forward as a solid couple working together.  I don't want the possibility of a charge of murder hanging over their heads for another book.

  14. Oh you can bet your bottom dollar, as soon as his plane touched down, Victor was on the job. I think he will be back quite quickly to protect his girl. He will want answers. I'm actually surprised he went home. He could call in a few favours, I'm sure to find out about Nathan. Will he find out Eva's secret though?

Monica said the records are open now that Nathan is dead.  I'm sure Victor will find them and be furious.  I suspect he will also figure out that Gideon had a hand in Nathan's death.  In my opinion Victor will appreciate that he protected his daughter.  I'm sure Graves, et. al.  will share with him what they found in Nathan's apartment.  Victor will know that Nathan planned on killing Eva.  I know murder isn't the answer but I would kill to protect my child especially after what she lived through.

  15. WOW!  I'm so lucky that I just found this series in April.  It drives me crazy when I have to wait too long for the release of the next book in a series that I'm addicted to. (I have several authors that keep me on the ropes. Fortunately release dates are all over the calendar so I always have something to read.)  I'm using some of my comp time on June the 4th  :-) On June 5th I will be happy knowing the next chapter in the lives of Gideon & Eva but depressed  waiting or Book 4.  :-(

  16. I think they are still going to make mistakes because this serious relationship and trusting thing is so new to both of them.  I have a feeling that they will talk it through more readily now because they are both aware what they did wrong in the past and they don't want to lose each other.

On another subject, one of the things that touched me most deeply about what Gideon said to Eva in Chapter One is his willingness to let her go now. He didn't want her to spend the rest of her life afraid of him if she honestly believed he was a violent person. She suffered enough being afraid of Nathan. He was promising no more trying to manipulate her emotions, to chase after her, to try to force her to take him back for the upteenth time.

He was willing to spend the rest of his life without her, even though it would kill him, rather than try to force her to stay with him.

    Poor Gideon.

I thought this was so touching too LN. I can't help but wonder how much they will struggle in this one. Yes Gideon did everything "for" Eva, but she is going to have a difficult time with "emotionally" trusting him again. I can't say that I blame her. Eva knows he doesn't want anyone but her, BUT he has been careless with her emotionally and that will stay with her for a long time.

I loved that part too.  It shows how much Gideon loves Eva.  Even though he has made a lot of mistakes in their relationship he only has her interests at heart.  Now I think he is going to start moving forward and acting more as partners.  I hope! I hope!

  18. Deanna is, however, exposing herself to a huge legal risk if she does in fact smear Gideon's reputation by getting serious dirt on him. Because she is motivated by malice. One false step, and she opens herself to being utterly destroyed by being found guilty of libel.

As long as every word she prints is true, Gideon's can't touch her. But if she gets something wrong, and he can prove it, it's a slam dunk to nail her for libel.

If you ladies can stand one more mini-lesson in media law in the United States.

Ordinary, every day people have a much higher degree of protection against news stories that contain untrue information about them. If an untrue story runs that seriously harms an ordinary person runs, he/she can sue for libel, and has a halfway decent chance of succeeding -- even if the false story is simply because the reporter screwed up.

Public figures, however, give up a great deal of protection against the media. By putting themselves in the spotlight, they've put themselves in a place where the media's going to be paying attention to them. And because reporters are human who make mistakes, there will be stories that contain false information. Sometimes the information could even harm the celebrity.

However, if it's a case where the reporter honestly made a mistake, then a public figure can't successfully win a libel case against that reporter and/or his/her news organization. The legal concepts -- and this is the exact way it's phrased -- is "absence of malice." Absence of malice is an absolute defense against lawsuits brought by public figures. And it is the plaintiff, not the news organization that has the burden of proving malice. In other words, the news organization doesn't have to prove itself innocent of malice -- the plaintiff must prove the reporter guilty.

If Deanna screwed up, Gideon could easily prove malice. She'd be in deep, deep trouble, as would be any news organizations that ran her false reports. Gideon could actually dismantle them through civil lawsuits.

Thanks.  I remember when Carol Burnett went after the National Enquirer and won.  She knew it was going to be an uphill battle but decided they needed to stop spreading lies and rumors just to hurt her because she was famous.  I believe her success has served a precedent for other successful cases.   It is possible that Gideon will have a showdown with Deanna.

  19. A thought about Corrine.  I never felt that Gideon returned to a sexual relationship with her.  I always felt she was his +1 for the press.  Of course Corrine wants more but I don't think she is getting it.  I understand the appearance in the paper of something more intimate but photographers can capture shots that appear to be something they aren't.  They snap 10 - 15 shots consecutively and pick the one that tells the story they want to tell.  I think that Gideon spends a lot of time talking about Eva and that is what puts the smile on his face.  At least that is what he said about the Magdelene picture.  And later-- why would Corrine go out of her way to make Eva think that Gideon was in her apartment (he clearly wasn't) if she didn't know that Gideon really wants Eva?

  20. I thought that Gideon gave Eva his key when he returned hers in hope that she would come back to him.  Eva, however, was too upset when he returned her key she didn't notice.  Gideon is ashamed of his dreams and even more ashamed that Eva saw him having a dream.  He doesn't want Eva to hate him however, he couldn't wait for her any longer and came after her. Gideon wants Eva to help teach him how to open up to her.  It must be difficult for a man who never shared before especially when it is something that tore him away from his family.
