  1. Eva and Gideon both have people in their lives who care deeply for each of them and want each of them to be happy. But right now, I think only Angus and Ireland still believe Eva and Gideon can make one another happy. As things now stand, Cary believes Gideon would continue to make Eva miserable, and Arnoldo believes Eva would only hurt Gideon even more than she already did.

I think Scott is on their side too.  He liked the way Gideon is around Eva.  Also, I don't think Arnoldo is really against Eva he is just cautious.  He likes seeing Gideon happy and he is happy with Eva.  He does want to make sure she appreciates what she has because he is Gideon's friend.

  2. Gideon was emotionally effed up as a kid because of the repeated traumas he suffered. He already had problems even before he got raped. I'm pretty certain Lucas has inside information about Gideon's mental health issues from when Gideon was a boy and a teenager.

Lucas is firmly convinced Gideon is messed up because Gideon is just plain evil, born that way - a sociopath, narcissist, misogynist. Lucas is convinced Gideon emotionally abuses women for the sheer evil pleasure of it. Of course, Lucas' opinion is deeply prejudiced by how Gideon hurt his (Lucas') wife Anne. Because what Gideon did to her actually was kind of evil. He didn't do it because he himself is evil -- he did it because he's got some flaws that drove him to do it. Afterward, Gideon felt deep remorse though, recognizing the whole Anne episode was not one of his finest moments.

I think that prior to this summer that the saga unfolds, Lucas never had any opportunity to mess up Gideon's love life in revenge for Gideon having messed up the Lucas' marriage. But then Eva came along, and it was obvious Gideon was crazy about her in a way he'd never been for any other woman. So Lucas set to work on undermining that by trying to poison Eva's mind against Gideon. Now I think Lucas believes an even better opportunity for revenge has come along - Gideon himself is now on the track toward finally getting married, but Lucas would like to try to nuke Gideon's chances at marrying Corrine. Lucas' plot may be to create a scandal about how Gideon mistreats women.

I agree but wouldn't Lucas put his career in danger if this information got out.  Gideon would find out and get back at him through the media too.  I suspect his clients are wealthy and they would tend to distrust a doctor who told secrets.

Also, there are so many wealthy men who are womanizers.  I don't think that would be to big a deal.  Gideon is young, very good looking and wealthy he would attract women both married and unmarried.  It wouldn't be unusual for him or men of that ilk to use women. To be honest I don't really think that information would turn Corrine off either.    However, If Gideon settles down with Eva the story would be that she domesticated him.

That said, I'm sure Deanna is going to get the article to print just to satisfy her own need for revenge but I'm sure it will backfire in some way.

This is such a good story.  It is fun to talk about--there are so many possibilities.

  4. I hope not really, I can understand that Cary would believe Brett would make her happy but as Eva has said before she does not want the groupie lifestyle and surely Cary would see that Eva sitting in NYC while Brett was out on the road would not be a good thing for Eva, her insecurities would come out and she would be jealous of any other girl that was in contact with Brett, Cary knows how jealous she can get.

I can understand Cary being glad that Eva is not with Gideon but surely Cary is not deaf or blind and will hear Eva back with Gideon if you know what I mean after all when he was laid up after the attack in the house he asked Eva what vitamins Gideon took to keep that stamina up so he obviously can hear what is going on and as we all know neither Eva or Gideon are that quiet.  I think Cary will be happy when he observes Eva being happy, I just hope he doesn't push the Brett thing too much, it may backfire in his face.

I agree.  Cary admitted to Eva that he knew the life with Brett wasn't what she needed and wouldn't work for her.  (I have to look up the conversation when I have a break) I do think that he would encourage her to have a fling with him to get past the heartbreak but in the end if he sees Eva & Gideon together Cary wants what will make Eva happy and that is Gideon.

I so want to read the whole book but I know there will be more issues to resolve in books 4 & 5.  I'm not a patient person.  :-)

    • Lucas probably thought something along these lines: OK, Corrine came back, and within a couple of weeks, she and Cross got back together for good. They're possibly engaged again in all but name -- they're just waiting for her divorce to go through. Cross is going to marry Corrine. So Cross thinks -- hah!! I've got his number. It's payback time. I'm going to expose him for the misogynist and sociopath he is. I know of at least one woman he screwed over, Deanna Johnson, who would be interested in what I happen to know about Cross' teen-aged years. I'm going to nuke his plans to marry Corrine.

I'm not sure if Lucas had time to speak with Deanna yet about Gideon fetching Eva from his (Lucas') office. The incident happened Tuesday morning. Deanna looked up Eva on Wednesday evening. It's possible, but on the other hand, Eva showed Tuesday that she's fully prepared to dig into Lucas' own background of Lucas' involvement with the Vidal family.

I'm a little confused.  I believe Lucas is behind the reporter's visit to Eva but why would he want her to find out about what happened during his teens?  Corrine was his first consensual relationship so there isn't any consensual sex to report from his teens.  If his abuse is found out and reported wouldn't Dr. Lucas' part in the cover-up come out?   I know Lucas is out for revenge but I just don't get how he will win in the end.

  5. Brett didn't give Eva's last name in the interview, did he?

Throwing out some theories on stuff Deanna Johnson says:

Some of her words: "I can keep your name out of it, Eva. I won’t use anything that identifies you. This is your chance to get a bit of your own back .... His money doesn’t give him the right to do whatever the ###### he wants ... pretty soon you’re going to figure out that Gideon Cross was using you to get Corinne Giroux jealous enough to come back to him .... That man has a dark side.â€

    My theories:

    • This reporter is working on a story about Gideon's own dark past, not Eva's.
    • I think Dr. Terry Lucas is her source, and she's vowed to protect him as an unnamed source.
    • As for dark past, the story may be about Gideon's mental instability as a boy/young teen-ager.
    • Lucas' motive: Gideon got back the woman he's wanted to marry for years, and Lucas wants to destroy Gideon's shot at marrying Corrine. Lucas wants revenge for Gideon having ruthlessly damaged Lucas' own marriage by sexually using Lucas' wife, Anne.
    • Based on what Lucas (and a huge society crowd) witnessed the night Corrine crashed that event, Lucas probably figures Eva immediately went onto the reject pile that very night.
    • Lucas was the one who tipped off Johnson that Eva would want to get even too.

    Additional:

    • I definitely think Eva's gut instinct is right here -- Gideon f****** Johnson and then rejected her.
    • Eva really has kept her head in the sand for weeks now. The media is running rampant with the news Gideon won back the girl who had gotten away all those years ago.
    • Corrine is probably encouraging those rumors, knowing full well that Gideon won't bother trying to correct any wild speculation or even lies. Just like Corrine manipulated Eva, Corrine is now manipulating reporters.
    • When Brett gave that interview four days earlier (four days prior to the start of Entwined) he actually identified Eva by name. That's how Johnson knows about him and Eva. This explains, too, why Gideon was so freaked out he took the dangerous risk of approaching Eva on Monday -- he had to beg her to wait, knowing Brett was coming back to New York later that week.
    • Eva's Dad is right - reporters can get all sorts of info, even info buried deeply into confidential records. There are NO laws in the United States that forbid publishing the names of sexual assault victims and/or juvenile victims. Some tabloids are unscrupulous enough to do it, even though the mainstream media voluntarily -- voluntarily -- does not publish sex assault victims' names unless the victims actually want their names used and specifically ask the news organizations to do it. Trust me on this one as a former reporter who's also had formal education about media laws in the United States.

I think  Lucas is behind the reporter too.  I think he is angry about Eva's visit to his office and the fact that Gideon came after her.  If he lies about a child being abused he will do anything to hurt Gideon.   I think Lucas' silence was bought by Vidal Sr. for some reason and neither of them want that out.  Eva told him that she was still looking for answers and I think that scares the creepy doctor.

  6. I forgot to mention this, I was on FB and saw a post it said it was an exclusive from SD, and in the snippet Cary was Getting out of the shower to his ringing phone, he smiled at the name and answered, the voice on the other end said can we meet to come up with a plan, Cary then says You mean something that's going to get your BROTHER and my best Friend back together and Ireland says yes..! Not sure how true it was but I meant to mention it. I'm going to see if I can find it again.!

I can totally see this happening.  Ireland likes Eva and Cary wants her happy.  I hope, I hope...  I hate to wish my life away but I really want June 4th to get here.

  7. I wonder if the murder is going to make Gideon's nightmare's Worst..!??

I was thinking the murder doesn't necessarily make his nightmare's worse but possibly opening up to Eva might trigger some.  Eva was going around talking to his family about his abuse. Or maybe he will go back to Dr. Petersen and that will bring some memories to the surface causing more dreams.

  8. the only other explanation I can think of Nathan being at the Crossfire the day Monica saw him which was a week after the lipstick/Corrine incident would be that he was stalking Eva or was there to try and intimidate Eva at her work.......

But remember Eva said he wouldn't come to her at Crossfire because there was too much security but he would be there to meet with Gideon.

  9. Thanks Julie54

one question for everyone, Cary, do you think he is secretly in love with Eva and that is why he cannot move on in a relationship and how do you all think he will deal with things if Eva ever moves in with Gideon, you saw what he did with the cluster f*** which I think was attention seeking as Eva was spending more time with Gideon and I think he felt insecure and lost but also a bit put out, what does everyone else think ????

I think Cary loves Eva like a brother.  They have learned to support each other emotionally.  Personally, I think Cary is even more damaged than Eva.  He hasn't figured out how to move on with his life in a constructive way yet.  Cary leans on Eva to keep him moving forward.  I don't think he is jealous of Gideon and Eva’s relationship but I think he is afraid that he won't survive without Eva's help and he doesn’t know how he will fit in Eva’s life if she is in a permanent relationship.

Also, I think Eva mentioned one time that his career is dependent on his good looks. So in addition to the emotional damage he is very insecure about what his future will be if he can't model.  My guess his good looks were blamed for his abuse by whomever his abuser was.

  10. I am having a hard time concentrating at work today. I can't even imagine how i will be tomorrow. We will sure have a lot of things to talk about then.

Me too.  It is bad enough it is a Monday but I so want to read chapter 1 that I can't concentrate.  I keep writing my chapter 1 in my head and then tell myself...the read chapter is going to be so different.

  11. The murder case is, when Entwined opens, close to the point where it would be time to decide whether or not to indict/arrest Gideon. The detectives have figured out he did it, have already broken his alibi, and are now building the motive side of the case.

The easiest way that the case would go away at this particular stage -- on the threshold of decision on whether or not to arrest -- would be the prosecutor determining the evidence isn't strong enough to meet the burden of proof. Under the U.S. legal system, the prosecution is always the side with the uphill battle. Gideon's team doesn't have to prove him innocent -- EVERYTHING rests on the prosecution proving guilt.

I'm convinced Graves lied when she fed Eva b******* the cops basically decided on their own to drop the case because Nathan was a dangerous scumbag but Gideon's no danger to other people. However, it is possible the prosecution will decide that even though they know he did it, knowing it and proving it to a jury are two different things. This is not simply the prosecution being afraid of the best defense lawyers money can buy. If the prosecution had the evidence to do it, they'd go after Gideon no matter how rich he is. If the prosecution knows the evidence isn't enough to meet the burden, they'll back down now rather than lose the trial.

LN I believe that Graves lied too.  When she first walked into the gym I thought this is not good but then I was happy with the ending hoping for the best.  However the more I thought about it the more I thought a lie would be a better segue to the next book.  Sylvia is making Gideon & Eva really work for their relationship.  It is a great story.

  12. Hi Caroline,

I think that’s where maybe some of the forum members may differ.  I think that everyone had everyone else’s best interests at heart and not Eva’s.  Oh yes everyone in the book kept trying to justify their actions and  kept stating that they did this or that or the other to “protect†Eva, but NO ONE  EVER ONCE ASKED OR INCLUDED Eva in the DECISION MAKING PROCESS.  Please don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that you said this or that someone specifically had said it, it just seems to be a recurring theme in this book.

I was thinking about what everyone was saying about how Monica loves Eva and I started questioning whether Monica loves Eva or whether she just loves her reflection in Eva’s eyes.  There is a big difference between the two.  Other forum members have mentioned that Monica almost treats Eva like an accessory and I have to say that I agree.

I think the reason everyone is trying so hard to protect Eva is because her recovery is so tenuous.   They all see how she reacts to Nathan, and while they need to include her more in decisions, I understand their actions.  I’m sure Monica and Stanton gave Gideon some backstory that makes him worry.  Also, I keep thinking about what Monica said at the hospital “He’s completely taken you over and assumed control of everything.† Gideon wants to protect Eva the only way he knows how at this point.

I also want to comment on Monica’s love for Eva.  I am firmly in the camp believing that Monica really loves Eva and is consumed with guilt.  I was in the hospital a lot as a child and I can tell you my parents were overcome with guilt and all they did was accept a promotion that moved them to another city.  If I found out that my child was abused because of a decision I just can’t imagine how guilty I would feel.
