 Kristen,  I agree Geoffrey is based on Madoff but Madoff was convicted using current laws. Twenty years ago I don't think these guys were sentenced as strictly. There are a lot of men who received much lighter sentences for Ponzi type schemes. Wasn't there a big company in the 80s that used some scheme and the men responsible received very light sentences. It seems that a lot of these crooks get off easy. Who knows maybe we will learn more in the next two books. Regardless Geoffrey was a crooks and coward and took the coward's way out. It must be difficult for Gideon to grow up with that hanging over his head.

 Julie, There isn't a rule regarding 2/3 of the sentence served as far as I know but every state is different. (It is a shame LN isn't here she could let us know about the NY laws for this type case.) Some people get out after serving as little as a year to 18 months. I think it depends on the sentencing guidelines. I know sentencing guidelines seem to be lenient for white collar criminals. Regardless I agree if Geoffrey went to jail he would have been out and still have skills and time to start over.  Since he committed suicide it seems he couldn't deal with the humiliation and negative publicity. He would lose most of his wealth as part of his sentence and Liz would most likely divorce him. Gideon commented on the fighting I don't see her sticking around while Geoffry rebuilds his life.  My guess is Liz remarried so quickly to change her name and escape some of the negative publicity. I don't know if she was having an affair but I'm sure she knew Vidal and he married her to help insulate her from the publicity. Everything I've read about Vidal Sr. makes me think he is a good guy but a little spineless.

 I did a quick search and most US Ponzi schemers get up to 20 years but they all were paroled much sooner. He was a young man so he could make a comeback. Also they are confined in low security prisons so, while prison is terrible they aren't with harden criminals.

 Conspiracy theory. I don't know I think it was suicide. Often the family of suicides want it to be murder because they don't want to believe their loved one would kill himself.

 You're right there is no way that Hugh would rape Gideon with a witness. I think Dr. Petersen will pull out the information. I remember Gideon mentions how Dr. Petersen can talk him around a circle until he gets him where he wants him. (Not a quote)

 Julie that reminds me I always thought Angus put an end to Hugh's abuse too. That kind of kills my theory that Hugh moved onto Chris Jr. Angus is a good man and wouldn't leave Hugh around to hurt anyone else. If Chris was abused by Hugh it was before Gideon left home. However, like Gideon said "He takes sibling rivalry to the extreme." Chris is most likely very jealous of Gideon because Gideon is more successful in all areas.

I have a feeling you are right but I keep hoping... But if I'm wrong I'll take you to Primal so we win either way.

I thought a snippet would help as I wait for Captivated but it only makes me want it more.

 I don't think he is a Gideon plant because of the reaction he had to Gideon when Eva stayed in the elevator. (When Gideon gave her the ring back) If he was a plant he wouldn't have reacted to Gideon asking Eva to stay.  I still think Will is just a co-worker.

 This is the theory that I like best about the ring. It would make it more precious to Gideon & Eva.  I agree with Anne/Terry marriage. Anne is a loose cannon. She is up to no good.  Cary chats with Will? Cary chats with him because he was a patient. I don't think he will take on a new older patient .

 I don't think he is a throw away character. He was there to keep Eva busy while she was dealing with her breakup with Gideon. I also think it is one more person who makes her love her job so much. She works well with her co-workers and Gideon is going to have to do something big to get her to pull away from them and work for him.

  I think you are right. Gideon told Eva that we she questioned if he thought the document would keep them together.

 I also think some of the anger is because Hugh abused Christopher but I don't think it was while Gideon was still at home. Abusers rarely change their preference and if Hugh likes pre-teen/teen boys he wouldn't be interested in Chris jr. until he reached that age. My guess is he blames Gideon for leaving.  We talked about the ring before and I'm not sure what the story is. I think Liz was hoping for Corrine as a daughter in law but I'm wondering if Gideon had the ring for a long time. We will see.

 I agree GiGi. I don't know if I told you this already but I sent a message to Kalypso about the next book. She is hoping to get it out by the end of the year but she is dealing with some personal issues and she has a new grand child that put her off schedule. She said it will be here soon.

 I understand. I can't see Gideon sharing a room with his brother. They live in a mansion and I'm sure each child has his own room. I guess it is possible but I don't see it as part of the story. Hopefully we will know soon.Â

   Good evening,  Let me begin by saying that I do not mean to offend anyone and this is my opinion only. We come up with all kinds of theories and anything can happen. (No one expected the Russian mafia twist or the bracelet alibi.) In no way do I mean to disparage anyone’s opinion by stating mine.  I have to address this theory.  I did a paper for school on sexual abuse and have a lot of research. One of the reasons so many men do not come forward and report and deal with their abuse is for this reason. There are a large number of people who think men who are abused will abuse in the future. That is just not true. The reverse is rarely considered. By that I mean women are rarely labeled as potential abusers because they were abused. Men fear that admitting abuse will make people look at them differently and people will constantly be waiting for them to abuse another child.  There are more than 138 million men in the U.S As Sylvia documented in her book one in 6 boys are abused that would mean approximately 23 million men are potential abusers. What a shame that as a society we continue to abuse these men by continuing to posit this theory. It is true that many abusers were abused but the majority of abused boys do not abuse others. Sylvia said she did a lot of research for this book and she would know this myth is false. It is documented in all the major psychology magazines.  Regarding the Crossfire series and Gideon Cross in particular, I would never recommend these books in the future if Sylvia made the decision to have Gideon be an abusive murderer. It doesn’t fit with the person in my mind.  There are many reasons why Christopher doesn’t like Gideon, jealousy being the first one that comes to my mind. I know families where siblings have issues with one or another and I don’t know any who abused the other. I firmly believe that Christopher is angry with himself because he saw the abuse and didn’t confirm Gideon’s accusations.  Another reason could be he blames Gideon because Hugh turned to Christopher after Gideon left. Abusers have a type and if Gideon left home in 5 or 6 years then Christopher would be Hugh’s type. How could Christopher report his abuse when he denied that Hugh was an abuser?  I won’t even consider this scenario until I read it.
