  1. Well the sun is shinning here in Scotland .

It's even happy that chapter 1 of EWY is being released today!

But we have got to wait until the US wakes up. :(

It's worth the wait though I'm sure !

Hi ShazScott, where in Scotland are you, I am in Edinburgh and counting down the time also, so excited :)

  2. Magdalene has had a front-row seat, though, to some of Gideon's less-than-stellar treatment of Eva. All three of the occasions where the three of them happened to be together. Thus, she probably believes Gideon is to blame, along with Corrine, for him having lost Eva recently.

The three times Magdalene has been around them, and what she saw -- her old friend screwing up:

First date, the fundraiser for the advocacy center:

Gideon in full icy-public-demeanor mode, ending with him arguing with Eva on the dance floor and then leaving on the spot. Almost immediately after is when Magdalene went after Eva in the ladies room to attempt to drive the final nail in the coffin.

    Vidal garden party:

Eva came to the party with Cary instead of Gideon. Gideon showed up angry and dragged Eva out of the garden into the house, presumably to send her packing in the driveway. Eva was furious as he pulled her away. Magdalene waited a little bit, then went into the house, obviously to to find Gideon, figuring Eva's gone. That's when Magdalene instead found Gideon making love to Eva in the library.

    Night Corrine crashed the fundraiser:

Gideon immediately went off with Corrine on his arm, to talk to her alone. Eva sat miserable with Magdalene, tossing back drinks and having just been blindsided by her (Eva's) own boyfriend. Then Gideon and Eva disappeared for a short while (Magdalene naturally would have assumed they went somewhere private to argue.) When the pair of them returned and sat down to dinner, Gideon allowed Corrine to again monopolize him. A jerk who hated Gideon (Lucas) called Gideon on his (Gideon's) mistreatment of Eva, and Eva, knowing Lucas had a point, agreed with him. Then she walked out on Gideon, who full of remorse went tearing after her soon after.

I wonder whether Magdalene got a look at Gideon's eyes when he read Eva's text announcing she was out of there. Terror? I've always wondered too, how awkward things probably were at that table between the time Eva walked off and a couple of minutes later when she texted Gideon she was out of there. Did Gideon and Lucas fight while Corrine sat there suddenly forgotten?

Yeh Magdalena has been there a lot and I think after the way you have explained things, Magdalena probably feels sorry for Eva, I think she knows that Gideon is head over heals for Eva and Eva for Gideon but she is angry with her old friend treating Eva like he did at the dinner with Corrine and that is why she probably eaves dropped and then told Eva Gideon was trying to manage Corrine.

I would imagine that after Eva left Gideon was lost and broken up and Magdalena saw that in his face especially when she told Eva that he has never gone after anyone in his life only her and I think Magdalena saw then how much Gideon felt for Eva and she knew she had to get closure and just been a friend

  3. he was definitely stalking Eva. He had been through her rubbish, took notes of her movements round he city. That was why Gideon went into meltdown when Eva left the office for lunch with Mark and Steven. Took Brett to lunch, too. He was afraid Nathan would grab her. Rape her again, kill her. Detective Graves said herself it was just a matter of time.

He really was a creep wasn't he, he deserved to get what came to him, good riddance to bad rubbish, why on earth will the police not see this, hopefully in the new book they will settle down a bit more on Eva & Gideon so they can start to get back together slowly and probably secretly for a while

  4. I think Cary loves Eva like a brother.  They have learned to support each other emotionally.  Personally, I think Cary is even more damaged than Eva.  He hasn't figured out how to move on with his life in a constructive way yet.  Cary leans on Eva to keep him moving forward.  I don't think he is jealous of Gideon and Eva’s relationship but I think he is afraid that he won't survive without Eva's help and he doesn’t know how he will fit in Eva’s life if she is in a permanent relationship.

Also, I think Eva mentioned one time that his career is dependent on his good looks. So in addition to the emotional damage he is very insecure about what his future will be if he can't model.  My guess his good looks were blamed for his abuse by whomever his abuser was.

I like the way you think Sharonm745

  5. that was the night of his second nightmare, at her flat, where he walked out on Eva. I don't think Nathan dared go back a second time. It was more than his life's worth. It would have been suicidal. But hey! The way this story is going I could be wrong.

the only other explanation I can think of Nathan being at the Crossfire the day Monica saw him which was a week after the lipstick/Corrine incident would be that he was stalking Eva or was there to try and intimidate Eva at her work.......

  6. I'm with you---I feel that Nathan saw Gideon that day...Gideon was acting wierd that day!

I feel that Nathan saw Gideon more than one time....

I think so too, especially if he got a thumping the first time, I think Nathan only went that first time to try and intimidate Gideon and to threaten Gideon with pictures and videos of Eva and to ruin is career which probably made Gideon thump him once, I think the time Monica saw Nathan outside Crossfire, Nathan had just been up to see Gideon and show him the photo's and video and try to get money out of him, that time I think Gideon got really scared for Eva which put him in that mood and to say to her to Love him was his way of showing Eva he was so scared for her but would do anything for her

  7. Thanks Julie54

one question for everyone, Cary, do you think he is secretly in love with Eva and that is why he cannot move on in a relationship and how do you all think he will deal with things if Eva ever moves in with Gideon, you saw what he did with the cluster f*** which I think was attention seeking as Eva was spending more time with Gideon and I think he felt insecure and lost but also a bit put out, what does everyone else think ????

  8. Gideon is not used to women walking away. Because they've always chased him. And all he had to do is snap his fingers and they'd run back.

He just didn't get it that Eva isn't like any of those other women who will grovel, beg, settle.

First date: he pushes her away emotionally.

Next day: assumes she'll talk to him on the phone.

Monday: assumes she'll still have lunch with him.

Result -- he had to beg her to give him another chance.

First breakup: he pushes her away.

By next day: knowing he screwed up, he figured she'd come back on her own. He was waiting for her to make the next move.

By day four: finally figured out he needed to beg her for another chance.

Week he killed Nathan: he pushes her away.

Six days into mistreatment: she dumps him

More than a week later: still expects her to wait for him. When she tells him "there is no us" he says "stop saying that." Claims to her that she has him. She tells him it's not true - and she's already moving on.

That final time he finally got it -- if he didn't change, she was gone for good.

I think it was so hard for him to adjust to having someone want him for him and is a strong person in her own right, yes she has problems but she is dealing with them.   Like you say LN he has always had women throw themselves at him and beg him and Eva was not one of them which I think threw him so much but also showed him he could not treat her like he did the other women

  9. Plus Corrine immediately made use of the fact Gideon didn't talk about her at all to Eva. Knowing his past tendencies against talking about things, Corrine figured she could feed Eva anything she (Corrine) wanted and if Eva tried asking Gideon about it, Gideon would be reluctant to talk about it with Eva.

Weeks later, Corrine was still up to it. During the showdown on Corrine's doorstep, Corrine was careful to ascertain Gideon wasn't even aware what Eva was doing. Corrine knew he hadn't been spending any time with Eva, but now Corrine confirmed suspicions Gideon wasn't even in any sort of contact anymore with Eva. Which actually had been the case for a while, right on up to brief contact 24 hours before (the elevator encounter.)

    well said LN

  10. nathan only met Gideon once. When Monica saw him, he was lurking around to intimidate Gideon into giving him the money. He was stalking Eva. Keeping notes on her going through her trash. Gideon was beside himself with worry, fearing for Eva's safety.

Hey Julie54, that is where I get confused as the Corrine and mark on the cuff was before Eva went out with her mum and her mum saw Nathan, so if Nathan saw Gideon earlier and it is Nathan's blood on Gideon's cuff then he must have seen Gideon before the Monica incident, hence the reason I thought Nathan had seen Gideon a couple of times

  11. Destroying the notes -- that "claim" is what told me the detective was lying through her teeth. Cops do not destroy records, least of all with homicide cases, because such cases technically stay active forever if not "solved" via arrest. With all other serious crimes, a statute of limitations exists. When the time runs out, and no arrest has been made, the case is finished. At that point, the case file is useless. Murder files never run out of time. The case may be considered "cold" -- but it still is an open investigation.

Plus, we know videotape was seized from Stanton's office. Given the fact Gideon never EVER phoned Eva once the body had been found, it's safe to say his phone records got pulled too. The cops would have gotten copies of all the old case files concerning Nathan's past crimes. Did all of that go into someone's fireplace to get torched? I think ... NOT. The notes didn't either.

what I noted also LN that was never mentioned was the video tapes from Crossfire as when Monica collapses and we now know it was because she saw Nathan outside Crossfire and Eva asked Gideon to have a look at the tapes of the outside he said he would look into it, if Stanton's security videos have been taken surely the Crossfires will also and they will see how many times Nathan went to see Gideon, from the discussions at Eva's appartment we know that the police knew Nathan was trying to blackmail Gideon but we don't know how many times Nathan tried

  12. I've completely reconsidered Magdalene as a character because of all of this careful re-reading of the series, one chapter at a time.

I think Magdalene is subtly (and cleverly) portrayed as what Corrine actually should be but isn't - a true old friend to Gideon who wants what's best for him and who "gets" it that she (Magdalene) does not stand a chance at being anything more than an old friend. Magdalene comes across as a b***** on the surface but who is genuinely honest underneath. Contrast that to Corrine who comes across as sweet on the surface but is dishonest and self-delusional underneath.

Magdalene wants her old friend to be happy, even if that means another woman making him happy. She wants to be his friend.

Corrine wants Gideon no matter what, even if it means destroying happiness he found with someone else. Under the cover of "friendship" she's been trying to manipulate him the whole time, sensing at least enough to know there's something broken there.

I think I shall re-read the stories again especially with only 4 weeks to go before the new books are out, I must admit I have only read them a couple of times so what you wrote LN makes sense so I will re-read them
