  1.  Eva doesn't need to know every step A to Z, but she absolutely is now on a need-to-know basis of the key details. So Eva (and thus we readers) are going to get the highlights of how Gideon pulled off the murder plot. Bottom line: Eva needs confirmation of the stuff the detectives have figured out on their own (i.e. the stuff Detective Graves has gotten right) plus a heads up on the stuff the detectives either have gotten wrong or have failed to figure out.  Some of the stuff Detective Graves told her undoubtedly is stuff the cops got right, but some of it probably is wrong too. More importantly, there's stuff Graves would have held back on telling Eva (lest it get back to Gideon's defense team) and there's stuff Graves probably doesn't know about -- but -- might find out as the cops keep digging.  Now that Eva will be up to her eyeballs in helping to cover up the murder after the fact, she cannot afford to be blindsided by anything. Gideon had kept her completely in the dark for her own legal protection these past three weeks. Now he needs to go to the other end of the scale, tell her everything that's vital she be aware of if she's going to help him make the cops go away.
  2. People are assuming that just because Detective Graves believes Nathan opened the door, that absolutely is what happened. I think -- NOT. She's got that part of her theory wrong. People also are assuming, based on the fact Gideon attacked Nathan in his office, Nathan is terrified of Gideon. Oh h*** NO. If Nathan were scared, he'd have left New York. Â I firmly maintain that Gideon used a master keycard to open that hotel room door on his own and quietly slip inside, then stood on the threshold and said something that convinced Nathan to approach him. (Or if Angus was the one holding the knife, got in using a master keycard Gideon supplied him.) Â Thing to consider: Â Using a master key eliminates the need to knock on the door and ask Nathan to open it up. What if Nathan refused? Game over. And even the act of knocking on the door could be overheard in nearby rooms. Most especially if Gideon (or Angus) had to talk Nathan into opening the door. Gideon could very easily acquire a master keycard for that hotel, which a subsidiary of Cross Industries owns. Because there would be plenty of master keycards already in use -- hotel managers would always carry master keycards capable of opening any door in the facility, and housekeepers carry master keycards to open all the guest rooms. We know Gideon has a habit of carrying around another sort of master key -- an elevator master key. It's come in handy cornering Eva in elevators. So he knows how handy master keys can be.
  3. OK, I can see the fans who demand Entwined includes The Wedding now frantic. Â But I've always believed that Entwined would involve Gideon and Eva marrying. Sylvia has said, when she started floating the possibility of a fourth volume, that Gideon "still has a lot of work" to do on himself. What if the 4th volume continues his journey with Eva still alongside, but now alongside as his wife instead of his girlfriend. Â Plus when Eva becomes Mrs. Gideon Cross, she goes full-fledged celebrity. So now her own past might become a threat by people wanting to use it to hurt her (or hurt Gideon through her.)Â Â Another thing, as Entwined digs into Gideon's dark past, including the cover-up of the abuse, there's going to be one or more present-day showdowns. What if those folks (like Dr. Lucas, Gideon's stepfather) decide to fight back. Volume four could concern now-open enemies circling the newlyweds.Â
  4. Â Right now, Detective Graves is hung up on the possible hole she uncovered in Gideon's alibi. The party was disrupted for an hour by a kitchen fire at the hotel, which sent everyone (party guests and hotel guests) outside to mill around. Graves believes Gideon slipped off in the middle of the confusion, walked 15 minutes to Nathan's hotel, killed him, and walked 15 minutes back. Â This leads me to believe the estimated time of death from the autopsy is somewhere in the evening. Plus, the fact that Gideon had gone out of his way to make sure he was seen -- and even press photographed -- at that party leads me to believe that if Angus did it instead, Angus did so while the party was going on.
  5. Sylvia has two volumes of a new contemporary series (a new romantic couple we haven't yet met as characters) coming out this year - the first volume in August and the second in November. Â What if Crossfire # 4 is released in mid-autumn between the two. Â Entwined in You is guaranteed to hit the New York Times best-selling list in June. The publisher rides that wave the rest of the summer, enticing readers to check out volume of the new series in August. Then Crossfire #4 releases in the fall, and its momentum helps drive sales of the second new series volume in November. Â I hope it plays out that way instead of Crossfire #4 being released in early 2014 instead.
  6.  I think Gideon and Angus were one another's alibi for the rest of the night after the party at the f*** hotel.  It would have been too risky for Gideon to simply go home right after the party. A two-hour window of time of death is the best guess a medical examiner can make when a dead body is found hours after the person is killed. Thus Gideon needed a longer alibi than just the 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. window of when the party took place. To be absolutely safe, he should have made sure he was never alone starting that afternoon at work and continuing into the wee hours of the next morning. So after the party, he might have gone somewhere by having Angus drive him.  Angus was part of Eva's own alibi for Thursday. She spent all afternoon at work, then Angus picked her up, drove her directly to Dr. Petersen's office (for the couples therapy appointment Gideon blew off) then drove her right home. Cary was home from the hospital recuperating, including a visiting nurse right there, so Eva was never alone all night. The next morning, Eva left her apartment before 5 a.m. to go pick up her Dad at LaGuardia. Gideon sent his alternate driver, Raul, to drive Eva to the airport (a ride Eva flatly refused to accept.)  So how's this for a scenario: on Thursday evening, while Angus is driving Eva to and from therapy, Raul picks up Gideon after work, goes right to Corrine's apartment to pick her up for the party, then drops the pair off at the party. Meanwhile, Angus does something in the interim to make sure he (Angus) is around another person right on up to the time Angus makes a very short drive of mere minutes to the f*** pad hotel to be the driver who picks up Gideon and Corrine after the party. Corrine is driven right home, then Angus takes Gideon somewhere on a long drive under some ruse of Gideon working very late. Gets him well away from Manhattan itself. Brings Gideon back home in the wee hours of the morning.  For one thing, Gideon having a ready excuse that he needs to meet with someone very late for work after the work party would deflected Corrine from having any expectations that after the party, Gideon would take her upstairs to a room at the hotel. Corrine would be taken right home, and she wouldn't even bother trying to get Gideon to come upstairs to her apartment, because Corrine would know Gideon needed to be somewhere else.  There is one obvious hole in this, however -- if Angus made sure he was around other people at all times, how did Angus slip off to kill Nathan? Maybe Angus manufactured enough of an alibi that the cops wouldn't dig into in order to find the hole. Angus would say "I was such and such place after I dropped Ms. Tramell off and before I went to pick up Mr. Cross and Mrs. Giroux." Angus would have actually been at such-and-such place for most of the time. But as he headed to the f*** pad hotel, he would have made a quick detour to take care of Nathan. Nathan's hotel was a 15-minute walk from the party, which made it just a few minutes' drive.
  7. Even if Gideon didn't wield the knife himself, he nonetheless was up to his eyeballs in the murder plan.  Detective Graves concluded Gideon hadn't hired a hit man, so Graves decided Gideon must have done it himself. But what if Angus, who also was up to his eyeballs in the plans to protect Eva, decided together with Gideon that the only way to absolutely guarantee Eva's safety was to eliminate Nathan for good. So together, Gideon and Angus decided that Angus, who after all is a trained bodyguard, would do the deed itself, while Gideon was a close accomplice in covering both their tracks. If the cops eliminated Gideon from the suspect list right away, there would be little to no reason to investigate Angus.  Since childhood, Gideon has trusted Angus like no one else. What if this is because Angus all those years ago, took the law into his own hands in order to eliminate the problem of the child rapist preying on Gideon? Gideon's own mother refused to believe Gideon was being abused. What if Angus decided he couldn't trust the "system" (including the police) to put a stop to the abuse -- so Angus decided to do it himself.  Hmmmmmm? After all, this is what happened years later. Gideon didn't go to the police when he figured out Nathan was a danger to Eva's life. He had plenty of ammo to send Nathan to prison for a very long time: attempted extortion (the blackmail), assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (Cary's beating) and most of all, possession of child p*** (the rape photos and video of Eva.) But Gideon decided instead to take the law into his own hands in order to put a stop to Nathan.  Not that I'm saying Angus necessarily murdered Gideon's rapist. That would have been a revenge killing, something I can't see Angus doing. Angus probably did do something especially nasty to the guy, though, to make sure the guy never went near Gideon again. Then Angus started working with his young charge to start teaching Gideon self-defense/fighting and how to channel anger.  Nathan's murder was NOT revenge killing, that much is clear. It was a form of justifiable homicide to save someone else's life. Gideon obviously very meticulously planned the whole thing out, so legally he's just as guilty, even if he himself didn't hold the knife. But if Angus did it, Gideon needs to protect Angus as well by trying to get the cops to just drop the whole matter instead of continuing to dig harder.  Who knows what Angus' background had been prior to working as a private bodyguard -- however, most top-notch private security folks come to the private sector after leaving the military or the police force. If Angus had been some sort of special forces opp guy, he'd have extensive training in how to kill people quickly and very quietly. If Angus was a former cop, he'd know a lot about how forensic evidence is gathered at scenes, so Angus would know types of things to avoid doing. Like going any further into that room than necessary -- take Nathan down at the door. Plus know it would be vital for Gideon to have an alibi for several hours on either side of the estimated time of death the medical examiner would determine.
  8. I'm old enough to have watched the original Dallas series when it was in prime time, so yes I remember it well. One of the greatest series season finale cliffhangers EVAH. People went nuts waiting for the next season to premiere.
  9. Â She's feeding us appetizers, but we're starved for the main course!!!!
  10. Â Yay!!!! Thanks for posting the Tweet, Kirsten, as visual proof. Â Sylvia has hinted for a while now, even in the FAQ section of her website, that the Crossfire series was originally planned to be a trilogy -- but -- maybe the story was going to extend beyond a trilogy. Now we have official proof via social networking that a 4th book is in the works. Â Hopefully she'll start saying more about this right away, not waiting until late May, when the buzz about Entwined's pending release has the media all whipped up and watching closely.
  11. I need the calendar to fast forward to June 4.
  12. A few add-ons to my list of theories on the Gideon/Corrine phone calls  When the return phone calls from Gideon dropped off dramatically (because he was now spending all his free time with Eva) Corrine naturally would have concluded he was now having sex with Eva at the hotel. But Corrine probably bet, at first, that Gideon still would have had his sexual hang-up about refusing to spend the whole night with any woman. It'd been the deal-breaker issue for the engagement years ago, and Corrine probably bet he hadn't changed. So Corrine switched to calling Gideon's home number in the morning, before Gideon would be leaving for work. With the time difference between France and New York, it was plausible to get away with this: it'd already been lunchtime or later in France while Gideon would be getting ready for work. When Corrine found it impossible to reach him even in the morning before work, she would have figured out Gideon was spending entire nights with Eva. Add that on top of Gideon telling Corrine that Eva was getting him to "open up" and Corrine would have freaked. How was it in the course of mere weeks, Eva got Gideon to spend the night, something Corrine failed to get him to do despite trying for three whole years. That might have been the tipping point to make Corrine pull the trigger about leaving France for good.
  13. Â Shaz, I've always believed Angus was an accessory. But I'm starting to formulate now some alternate theories that maybe Angus was the killer and Gideon the accessory. Tomorrow or later this week, I'll get around to laying out my alternate theories. Â Mind you, I still think Gideon did it. But as I explore my thoughts on how Angus may have helped, I'll see where this leads me into possible avenues of Angus being the one wielding the knife and yet Gideon still in it up to his eyeballs. Gideon most definitely was closely involved somehow -- why else would he put Eva through weeks of living h***. The only explanation is Gideon did in fact have serious tracks of his own to cover.
  14. My theories on the subject of Gideon/Corrine phone calls: Â I firmly believe Corrine started calling him first. Who knows how long that went on -- maybe for weeks or even months before Gideon met Eva. At the time, Corrine still lived in France, but her marriage was falling apart. The calls would have started out as occasional, but as Corrine got Gideon to become a crutch, the frequency Corrine called increased. Based on what Gideon later told Eva (saying it would be cruel for him to cut Corrine off when she's going through a rough time) I believe Corrine started emotionally leaning on Gideon, and the torch Corrine had been holding for years erupted back into flames. especially because they were talking again. For a time, Gideon returned the calls regularly, both for friendship's sake and because underneath, he felt guilty knowing Corrine's marriage failed because she'd married Giroux on the rebound. Corrine stepped up the frequency to daily, including calling Gideon's home and calling his cell phone during times she'd be likely to reach him -- nights and weekends. By pure chance, she called his cell phone the Saturday night he was with Eva on their first date at the advocacy dinner. Gideon had met Eva only the week before, and Corrine may have already heard him mention Eva. When Gideon spoke with Corrine later that night, he might have said he was developing feelings for this new woman (Eva) he'd met at the Crossfire. A couple of days later (Monday) Gideon and Eva officially became a full couple and he began spending all his free time with Eva. Thus he would have spoken with Corrine rarely, if at all, anymore. So he told Eva the truth when he made it plain to her he wasn't talking with Corrine regularly because he was busy -- busy with Eva. The dramatic drop in getting Gideon on the phone coupled with online pictures of Gideon and Eva as a couple is what made Corrine decide to move back to New York and size up the competition. Now here's something I wonder. Based on all the serious trouble Corrine's re-appearance caused between Eva and Gideon, did he in the ensuing weeks barely speak with Corrine? Not wean her off completely like Eva asked him to when they talked back at her place (after Eva left the dinner.) However, barely talking with Corrine, knowing he couldn't maintain any sort of friendship with Corrine, due to Eva's insecurity/jealousy problem? Â Then .... a couple of weeks later when Gideon decided to use Corrine as his cover, Gideon would have needed to initiate calls to ask Corrine out. He had to have been the one making all the plans to get together, because he was staging photo opportunities and thus absolutely had to be certain she'd go to a particular place (restaurant, party) with him. Â Once Corrine firmly became his cover story for the cops, had he started returning her phone calls every single day, and actually calling her daily as well? So that the cops looking at lists of phone numbers for incoming and outgoing calls to his various phones would see proof he and Corrine were talking daily, even several times daily, like one would expect for a newly-serious romantic couple? Â Gideon never dared phone Eva period after she phoned his cell to break up with him. Detective Graves saw him devastated by that phone call, and a quick check of phone records would have revealed the incoming call to his cell that Saturday morning came from Eva's home land line. Beyond making sure the cops never could directly link another phone call between him and Eva, did Gideon as part of putting on his now-desperate act, give the cops something to see on his phone records -- lots of calls with Corrine in the past few weeks?
  15.  By the time Eva got back from lunch, Gideon knew d*** well who she'd gone to lunch with. The elevator Eva tried to take to her own office floor, the 20th, kept going all the way to the top, where a very angry Gideon was waiting in the elevator lobby.  However, Eva was just as mad about having seen online pictures of Gideon having taken Corrine out to dinner the night before. Gideon wouldn't (couldn't) explain himself -- so Eva refused to explain herself. Thus Gideon never got to know, even by the time Reflected ended three weeks later, exactly what Brett and Eva spent nearly an hour discussing.  That lunch was two days before Nathan died, and by then Gideon knew how much danger Eva was in. He was furious period that she'd defied an order from him to eat at her desk (Yeah, right -- simply order Eva without explanation and think she'd do what you said, Nice try, caveman Gideon.) He was even angrier, obviously, about who she'd gone to lunch with.  Someone told Gideon, probably security when Brett showed up at the downstairs desk to ask to see Eva. I'll bet Gideon watched over live video Eva go down to the lobby, then leave with Brett. He'd have had his own people tail her to the restaurant and follow her back to the Crossfire. Gideon then probably watched video to see which elevator she boarded -- and he made sure the elevator made an express trip to the top floor (other people in the elevator had been puzzled it wasn't stopping on other floors, but Eva quickly figured out why.)  Bottom line:  Eva and Brett had some sort of serious talk three weeks ago, and when Reflected ended, Gideon still had no idea what was said nor how the two of them (Eva and Brett) left off. He'd been in no position to demand Eva explain herself weeks ago, because at the time he was refusing in return to explain himself about his sudden renewed contact with Corrine. Later that same week, Eva dumped him after learning Gideon had taken Corrine to a work-related party at the f*** pad hotel. For the next twelve days, Gideon had absolutely no contact whatsoever with Eva. Fast forward to the weekend before Reflected ended, Brett talked about Eva in an interview down in Florida. It's obvious Gideon found out about the interview. At the time, he still was completely out of contact with Eva. He broke the no-contact stance on Monday. So my guess is the weekend interview spooked Gideon, because Gideon could no longer claim Eva publicly. Privately, he must have been terrified that Eva might possibly run straight into to Brett's arms as soon as Brett got back to town. When they did talk a little on Tuesday (the car ride) they'd still not yet discussed Brett.  Gideon and Eva still need to talk about both their exes -- what really had (and had NOT) gone on over the three weeks Gideon pushed Eva away and then Eva dumped him. I expect they'll talk about Brett and Corrine plus a great deal more Wednesday night, when they reunite in Eva's apartment during Chapter One of Entwined.
  16. When Brett was interviewed by a radio station near the end of Reflected (the weekend before - Reflected ends on Wednesday evening with Eva on Gideon's doorstep), he was asked if there really was an Eva out there.  Based on what Cary told Eva, Brett simply confirmed there was (i.e. didn't go into any great detail, especially not Eva's full name.) However, Cary just mentioned the interview in passing to Eva after she got home from work on Monday. He didn't show Eva the full transcript, which was online.  So what if Cary neglected (cough, cough) to tell Eva everything -- like Brett actually said a lot more about Eva during that interview. Who, Cary -- overlook giving Eva fair warning when it comes to Brett? Um, kinda like overlooking telling her Six-Ninths was the new name of Brett's band, so Eva got blindsided when she went to the concert. Yeah, that Cary (LOL).  So, let's say Brett got a lot more detailed about Eva in that interview. It happened down in Florida, so it's conceivable that the full story hadn't yet made it's way to Eva's ears up in New York when Reflected ended just 48 hours later. Especially if the New York media had not yet caught wind of it.  But Gideon probably has seen the full text of that weekend interview, so if there's a lot more to it, he already knows. Why else did he break 12 days of no contact with Eva midday Monday (without explanation, cornering her in an elevator at the Crossfire to put the promise ring back on her hand and simply ask her "wait.") Something Brett said must have spooked Gideon badly.  So ..... obviously, Gideon and Eva have a lot of catching up to do in Chapter One of Entwined, now that there's no longer any need for secrecy. Gideon never did get to hear what had gone on three weeks earlier when Eva took Brett to lunch. What if Gideon asks Eva about the lunch, now that he's at last entitled to ask her about anything. And when they start talking about Brett, Eva finds out the full details of what Gideon read online a few days earlier.
  17. Â Interesting. Something none of us thought about when Snapshot #1 hit. Good job of connecting the dots to Snapshot #4. Â Adding an additional possibility: what if the tabloids have a little "help" (cough, cough) in finding out about Brett and Eva. The help being that master of media manipulation, Gideon. The story about the fight is bound to come out sooner or later anyway -- why not make it sooner in order to help get the cops to finally back down? Â Gossip that Gideon dumped Eva over Brett is a lot stronger cover story than the current version Gideon put out there the week Nathan died, Gideon dumped Eva over Corrine. Â What if Eva and Gideon decided together the night they reunited to go with the stronger story, Gideon-Eva-Brett love triangle, because obviously the cops haven't bought the Eva-Gideon-Corrine love triangle? Â Because, among things, it lessens the need for Gideon to spend time with Corrine. Gideon probably isn't going to like anything that makes Brett come running, but hey, tough luck. Things are getting scary.
  18. Â It's only Chapter 5, so it's way too early for a wedding or even moving in together. I know we're all expecting the happy ending that romance novels promise, but we've got 22 Chapters in the story. I'd feel cheated if all the awful were somehow neatly wrapped up by Chapter 5. Nope -- Gideon's got a lot of explaining to do about a great deal of things, from his childhood to the h*** he put Eva through for three weeks.
  19.  For years, Brett had gone around hoping that some day, Eva would show up at a concert and approach him. Though he never actively sought for her after she walked out of his life without warning in San Diego, he never stopped thinking about her. It was that wish-come-true: there was Eva, near the stage door after a concert, that re-ignited the flame for him. Especially that kiss.  He tried to start talking over stuff then and there, outside the concert, but obviously never got too far before Gideon put an end to things. So Brett decided to follow up by attempting to see Eva on his own a few days later, just before he had to leave the New York area to continue the concert tour. He used the Internet to track her down -- and I'll bet he's been using the Internet since in order to try to find out info on her, especially find out what the deal was (in this case wasn't) between her and Gideon.
  20. It would be ironic if Gideon and Eva set up a love nest at one of his many hotel properties. But ironic in a way that could actually give them something else to joke about in bed (because it looks like by Chapter 2, they're back to being happy enough in one another's arms to laugh in bed.) Â Before Eva, the only place Gideon ever had sex was at a hotel -- at only one particular hotel he started using in college with his first girlfriend, Corrine, and purchased outright sometime in the ensuing years. He continued to use that hotel for casual sex partners until Eva became only the second serious girlfriend in his life. Gideon used the room to feel "safe" and in control -- it was a serious hang-up of his. Â Eva cured Gideon of that particular sex hang-up, and so they've done stuff in lots of different places, from his office to a nightclub in the middle of a concert. Wouldn't it be funny that they'd temporarily revert to using a hotel room as the only safe place to make love -- safe from the cops, that is. Â It's safe to say, though, that of the many properties Gideon now owns in his financial empire, we can cross off two hotels from the love nest list: 1. the place he used to maintain the f*** pad. 2. the hotel where Nathan died.
  21. Â ^^^^ This too. Brett re-appeared in Chapter 4. Eva's Dad, Victor, in Chapter 5?
  22.  Not yet, I'm certain. Too dangerous for everyone involved, even Cary himself.  If Eva were to tell Cary the truth while the cops were still after Gideon, there's a terrible risk the cops could try to force Cary to testify for the prosecution. And if what I suspect is true -- the cops are trying to destroy Gideon's dumped-Eva-for-Corrine cover story, they're going to start questioning people. Cary would be high on the list.  Worst case scenario: Imagine Cary in that awful position months later -- him being dragged up onto the witness stand and forced to testify for a prosecutor determined to send  Gideon to prison for the rest of Gideon's life. By then, Cary would have already known Gideon risked everything for Eva and they love one another deeply. But Cary would be trapped being used as a weapon for an ambitious prosecutor looking to make his career by convicting Gideon for having taken the law into his own hands.  Gideon and Eva can't risk putting themselves -- and Cary himself -- into a possible position like that.  AFTER the case goes away (most likely finally actually getting dropped), and Gideon/Eva know for certain the coast is finally clear, THEN they can tell Cary the truth.
  23. Â Gideon and Eva were simply exiting the dance floor when the following happened, starting on the bottom of page 309: Â Eva spotted Magdalene, and saw Magdalene talking to someone. That someone was Corrine. Gideon then spotted Corrine almost immediately after Eva did first, and his step faltered. Corrine then spotted Gideon - and it was written all over Corrine's face she was in love with him, Eva could tell by the way Corrine looked at Gideon. Eva also could see that Gideon in return was looking right into Corrine's eyes as he approached Corrine, Eva on his arm. That's when Gideon said to Eva "I need to introduce you to someone." Â When Gideon did so, he told Eva a half-truth, introducing Corrine as an old friend. In return, Eva pointedly introduced herself as Gideon's girlfriend. Corrine then asked Gideon to go with her (Corrine) to meet someone (an "associate") of Corrine's. (I suspect that was simply a ruse for Corrine to get Gideon by himself so Corrine could "explain" why she'd shown up and could size up the situation now that she was there and Eva had met her.) Gideon jumped at the chance to go off with Corrine so that he could actually talk to Corrine about Eva -- trying to make sure Corrine didn't say or do anything to upset Eva. Especially because Gideon hadn't yet gotten around to telling Eva anything about Corrine at all, especially not Corrine had been his fiancee at one point. Unfortunately for Gideon, when he went off to deal with Corrine and figure out how they were going to handle this awkward situation, Gideon left Eva behind with Magdalene. Magdalene proceeded to tell Eva the true nature of Gideon's past relationship with Corrine. Â Oooops.
  24. Â My guess: Eva probably isn't staying the whole night at Gideon's. That might cause Cary to figure out she's staying with Gideon, something that needs to be kept secret for now, even from Cary. She could let Cary think she's out clubbing a lot, staying out late and having fun. Remember, Cary's still home recuperating. He went out with Eva and Monica/Stanton one night, but it was tame: a small supper club. Cary's in no shape for dance clubbing yet.
  25. Â How can you tell Corrine is trying to mess with Eva's mind by twisting the truth and even outright lying sometimes -- deliberately doing so in order to make Eva believe she and Gideon are close -- very close? Â Answer: Corrine's lips are moving. Â Corrine knows exactly what Eva's biggest vulnerabilities are: insecurity and jealousy. Â Corrine started twisting things the night she met Eva, one of only two times the women spoke. The first time (night of the fundraiser) Corrine sweetly manipulated things -- after all, Gideon was in the room, though not at the table when Corrine got to talk to Eva. The second time was the argument at the door to Corrine's apartment -- there, Corrine had the gloves off, because it was just her and Eva and Gideon had no idea Eva was there.
