Well guys, it feels great be back on the site. Wish I came here with a better response than thinking OWY was a little overrated.

I wasn't able to read it the night it came out because I was at work so I managed to avoid FB, twitter, this site, everything. I do have a close friend who loves Crossfire like I do who was able to read it on 4/5. She actually told me to not read it. I couldn't believe it. She said it would change some of my perception of GidEva's relationship and Gideon himself so it wasn't worth it. I didn't take her advice and she was somewhat right.

Some things were great : Lucky, Clancy, Gideon saying "I love you" more, the possibility of Christopher Jr and Gideons relationship, I LOVED Chris Sr.

    Everything else I couldn't believe.

First of all, what the was with Gideon and that Cinco de Mayo photo?? I know Sylvia must've been trying to make some point about trust but it could've been done that actually fit into Gideon's persona.  The whole party thing made no sense. Also Gideon's reaction at the Hamptons was a little over-dramatic and bratty.

I didn't like when Gideon admitted to trying to sleep with other people after he saw Eva.

Deanna needs to GO, not a job. I mean, come on.

Ireland's boyfriend cheats? That's what that was all about?

Then we have the Elizabeth story. Such a build up for a few pages of an argument and then nothing.

The Monica story-line was rushed and not making much sense.  Everything from how she died, her backstory, and Eva's reaction were just weird.  I am a RN on a critical floor. I see denial and disbelief EVERYDAY but how she just picked up and moved on after 3 weeks was ridiculous.

OWY felt rushed and incomplete. I feel disappointed.

I still love Sylvia Day. She is an amazing author who loves her fans and I still love GidEva. I'm just going to pretend that Eva gave Lucky to Gideon at their second wedding as a gift and everyone was there (including Monica) and that they went on a magical honeymoon and lived happy ever after.

I so agree with you xoxolaurenashley . I love  Sylvia too but I just didn't love OWY. I still wanted the wedding that Eva wanted with her mom and Stanton and Victor and Ireland looking on. I wanted Monica to be there in the future giving Eva advice on being married to a rich and powerful man. I did not want the weird pseudo "wake" combination birthday party that we recieved. So I will pretend that OWY ENDED AT Chapter 7 which was before the ill-fated bachelor party and the reveal of Monica's backstory. :)

  2. Yes patriciaann loved those moments too...

You have stated my exact feelings on all of the above, that is why I will continue to reread them over and over again, I felt like I was with them through their journey and am so upset now that it is finished, however I got the HEA like I wanted.

EWY was my ultimate favorite and actually my life is not dull but these books provided a respite from all the stress of work

and family life... LUV LUV LUV GIDEVA...they will be missed!!!

  3. I thought the idea of a high clsss madame in Vegas was a great prediction and I would have went with that one!! I think Sylvia's version of Monica's backstory has too many holes in it... The Monica backstory is my most 2nd hated part of OWY except that it vindicated Monica's character as a gold digger. Actually  Monica never would have had to worry about her sisters care if she had stayed with Victor. Im sure his family would have taken  them both under their wing. That  is the biggest irony of all. Although  I think Sylvia was thinking that Monica and Victor both killed for Eva and in that they have an everlasting bond. What do u all think? :)

The Monica backstory requires at least 6 re-reads and then you make a list if questions  you would like to ask Sylvia ... ;)

I posted earlier about my frustration with this book, but here are a few other random thoughts and/ or questions.

Eva always thought that Gideon had a type, you know the tall, leggy, brunettes. It was such a big deal to Eva, I kind of thought that Sylvia would address in Dr. Peterson's therapy sessions.  If you remember in one of Gideon's nightmares he says that the pictures that Hugh brings to put on the back of the toilet were always the same, brunettes with blue eyes and long legs. Well, that was a clue to me that it had been "put" in his head by Hugh. So I think that could have been cleared up for Gideon and Eva.

If you have not read Afterburn/Aftershock(i really liked these books and loved Jax and Gia), Deanna was in this book as well and does some pretty despicable things as well. Actually worse than OWY. So I was ready to believe she was behind so much more than she was. Definitely always out for herself.

Did Terry Lucas know what Anne was up to? I would hope they both get jail time. Would love to know the whole conclusion to what happened there. Did he know about how easily she slept around? I wanted to know what would happen when the told Anne the truth about her brother.

Did anyone tell Victor about Monica's story. At least he would know that she wasn't a self serving gold-digger and maybe would have been with him if not for the money she needed for her sister.

I know most do not like Corinne, but did anyone explain to her about what happened with her so-called therapist. Gideon did say that she wasn't acting like herself at all. Most likely the drugs Anne had her on.

What in the world could have been in the file that Chris talks to Christopher about and he decides that he can give Gideon a chance all of a sudden when nothing has worked before. I'm glad they get the chance, but would really like to know the reasoning behind it. Because if Hugh falsified his records on Gideon, couldn't he have done the same with Christopher.

So many things left hanging out there...oh well. Really haven't wanted to re-read like the others, but I will at some point.

Im sure when Chris and Christopher talked Chris would have had to ask his son point  blank if he remembers being molested by Hugh... Christopher would have had to put 2 and 2 together if that were the case don't u think? Gideon's time with Hugh actually saved Christopher from the same fate. :(

  5. The Crossfire series has been an amazing ride and even though Sylvia writes other excellent novels I think this was her masterpiece. It will be hard to let Gideva go because since I have been reading her books I have been on this blog chatting with great people and waiting for the next book to come.  I agree with Patricia ann these books have gotten me through some depressing times as well. I think I will have to reread at least one Crossfire novel a year just to get a fix from time to time   :)

BThis from OWY..."The world has a tremendous appetite for all things Gideon. He's gorgeous, rich, sexy, and brilliant. People want to know everything about him but he's guarded his privacy to such an EXTREME degree that they know next to nothing...

If Gideon were going to behave like that with women ; he wouldnt be doing it at any club whether he owned it or not. He would have been at the f-pad. Even Monica said as much to Eva that because of those racy photos certain people may not want to do  business with him any longer...

I was thinking if these  guys  were  going out  .. its not out of the  blue  . they planned it because they were all busy  people so they  must have reserved it.   When Gideon reacted  .,, reading between the lines ,, the VIP  room was supposedly  private  so the  photographer was a surprised to him .. so what would be the VIP room like in New York then??? if anyone can answer as I have no clue lol   .. because   your example  in UK is  invalid  (no offense meant )  since it happened in New York.. it must be a different  set up  and before  that Arash has already  mentioned  the Cinco De  Mayo with Gideon being with 2 women  before the bachelors  party  so its not out of the blue .. but reading  back it would play a part  so Sylvia was  dropping hints..  I guess  Sylvia put this situation to test or  validate  the stability  of trust between the Gideon and Eva  .. w/o Brett and Corrine  in the picture ..

I realize Sylvia wanted to validate the trust between Gideva but that just wasn't the way it should have been done IMO. I will never agree on this topic because that dual bachelor party was my least favorite part of this book.

Sylvia just said on Twitter, that she will write a book for Ireland...Maybe THAT's why we didn't get a conclusion to everything? Because in an Ireland-book, there will be more about the future of Gideon/Eva, Trey, Chris, Christopher...even Gideon's mother?!

Thats the best news I heard all day!!! Ireland is definitely going to be a stunner in her own right but I bet it will be a long time coming...oh well I can wait lol

Just to clarify a couple of things regarding VIP rooms and how they work (in the UK at least). Occasionally they are rented out / reserved for private parties, however most of the time they are simply an exclusive room or area of a club reserved for visiting VIPs. When they aren't reserved the staff decide who gets in depending on who's at the club that night - whether any celebrities are there / who's spending highly/ who's best dressed etc...

We know that Gideon spent Cinco de Mayo clubbing with his friends, so it stands to reason that they were also present in the VIP section. In fact, the presence of the photographer who took that photo indicates that the VIP area was not reserved specifically for Gideon and his friends that night and therefore a number of strangers were present, and the area was not private.

Finally I just found a quote from Captivated by You which confirms my belief that these actions were totally out of character with Gideon's persona...

I knew my angel well. Indulging her closet exhibitionism was a complete 360 turnaround for me, and although it still amazed me when I thought about it, I didn't mind in the least.

A complete 360 turnaround for him!!! This part frustrated me greatly especially because it was just so unnecessary!!

Thanks Rogue that was exactly the passage I was thinking of and unfortunately proves that  the photo in question debacle is definitely one of those parts of the book that just don't make sense...boo-boo by the editors. ????????

  10. hi Gcrossfire totally agree with all of your points and everyone on this blog loves Gideva thats why we are here and we will all certainly miss them. All of the readers wanted certain things out of OWY SOME WERE SATISFIED AND OTHERS WERE NOT . That is just the way life goes. As I said before at the end if the day it was Sylvia's story to write .

I also think it's brain-damage, not brain-dead, because it was mentioned, that Monica wrote her letters and that Katherine was able to talk- just in a "childish"-manner...

Yes it is brain damage sorry my mistake...my point was that there is not alot of storyline in a TV series for this type of character ...

Too many inconsistencies with this book compared to the last four books.. that the editor, SYLVIA, didn't pick up on...such as...

    1. They way Gideon acted around Monica and Stanton when they spent the weekend together. Yes he probably didn't want to be hugged, but annoyed they were calling by his name instead of his last name???? When he met Victor, he was attentive and present in the conversation. He wanted to make good impression.  Yet with her mom and Stanton, he acted like a brat.  So unlike him from previous books.

    2. He would never had agreed to separate bachelor/ette parties. He couldn't let Eva and Cary go to Vegas without flying with him.  And Gideon showed up in San Diego (Captivated by You).  So sending her to another continent is so out of character for him.

    3. The photo that went viral of him in his VIP lounge...as per my previous posts..those acts never would have happened in a public place. Too risky .  F#$% pad only.

    4. The scene in his office in front of Arash then Scott and other employees...so out of character for both.

    5. The way he spoke to her after they returned from Rio.  He told her to stop nagging? WHAT??? He never spoke to her like that even if he was joking.  And calling her a grumpy angel. Never heard him speak like that...thru 4 books...never!!!!  I know it's not horrible or abusive...just isn't the way he speaks to her...especially after that photo of him had just been released. He be attentive and careful.  So unlike him. And she wanted to F$%k him in his suit , cause she says she had never done that before??? OH YEAH SHE DID. In her room in the book Entwined with You. (i'm too mentally drained to look for exact spot so if i'm wrong let me know...lol) I'm sure it was the morning after their first night together since their "break up".

    6. She gives him the dog.. a gift from his Angel.. and yes, I get he wasn't thrilled to have a puppy, but to hear him worry about his "priceless rugs"...... I feel not a Gideon thing to say. In Entwined to You he wasn't worried about her scratching his Ashton Martin....a very exspensive car, but rugs... really???

    7. To make the decision to have her dad be her body guard??? I love my Dad, but to have in involved in my day to day dealings and then witness intimacies between me and my husband on a daily basis...no thank you.  He made decisions for her that ultimately will cause him trouble down the road.

    8. In the epilogue, he tells her something about finding a job (not sure exact wordage as only read the book once) because he doesn't want to hold her back...that was a cough out.  Give us something substantial...they broke up for a bit over him wanting her to leave her job...I didn't want a small blurb about it in epilogue...and yes I know she MAY work with the foundation but not definite.  And really wasn't it just an offer to show up to functions that Gideon couldn't attend?? No office, no workplace comradely. No friends to lunch with. He setting himself up for a very unhappy Eva soon.

    9. The way it ended left me thinking that this couple still have a lot of issues to work on cause Gideon definitely getting the upper hand and Eva just along for the ride. (exactly what she didn't want to do...or be).  She's his arm candy now. She losing herself in him....just what she was afraid of.

    10. He's a young, hot business man worth 12 billion. Where is his entourage of security? Angus? Rauol?  That's it? Never heard him mention plain clothed security detail till this book.  Why not have that on Eva when Nathan was a threat? But to only have three guys?? I bet the writers of the T.V. series will have more security on them both, to make it more realistic.

    11. Stanton all alone.  No one thought to check on him.  Get in touch with Clancy to make sure heisok. (since Stanton wasn't answering the phone). My God.. the way he protected Eva's history and paid for her apartment, and the way he loved her mom.  They ignore him? Leave to deal with this alone (perhaps Martin is there).

    12. The Victor and Monica love story ... how everything she did, she did for love ?  Well why didn't she go back to the love of her life after she divorced Nathan's dad.  She would have had lots of money.

This post addresses point #9...remember in EWY when Gideva hooked up on the floor of the Crossfire under construction? They fooled around in someone's future corner office?  Most of the forum agreed that this was probably Eva's future office...this would  have been the perfect opportunity to put Eva's mind at ease and solidify her decision to leave WF&L. Gideon prepared this place for her on a different floor of the Crossfire away from him and she would know that she was definitely more than arm candy... On a positive note I loved how Gideon always mentioned that her missed her being in the Crossfire... :)

  13. I have always thought at some point Victor would move to New York and I thought he would work for Gideon in one of the hotel chains as director of security or corporate director of security. To even suggest he be Eva's body guard and to look the other way when they fool around is simply preposterous. No matter how long you have been married no father wants to go there with his daughter. My first thought of course was EWE. The only good thing to come out of this is that Victor and Cary would probably move in together and Cary could have a constant parent figure especially now that Monica is gone...

Hello all .. short-time lurker, first-time poster.  I hope there is room in the disappointed boat because that is where I am. If there isn't room I'll gladly jump to the very disappointed boat.  I agree that Lucky, more Angus, Gideon's work with his therapist and Christopher softening were good points but after that, the good was few and far between.

I will save you the list because most everything I disliked has been mentioned BUT I would like to say I found myself literally barking at my Nook saying "why isn't anyone going to assist, support Stanton. "

I really found this to be bothersome - as if Eva and Cary had become so self-absorbed they couldn't find the time to help murdered Monica's adoring husband who supported and helped them numerous times. The continuity of character in this book was deeply flawed.

Another thought I had too was as if this last book was more written for the TV mini-series rather than for the avid book readers.  All the petty fights, the destination bachelor/Bachelorette parties and the completely "ridonkulous" Monica backstory had me thinking Sylvia was writing for ratings not readers.

I will spare you my thoughts on the unfinished storylines, Gideon's prep to hire Victor - with a special aside about doing his daughter in the limo! - and another annoyances.

Thank you for your entertaining posts - It's been a ride!

If this book were written as the prelude to the TV mini series then it was even more "ridonkulous" to kill off Monica because she could have had great storylines in the TV SERIES... Imagine her having to run into Victor on a regular basis or just be that nagging presence in Eva's new marriage...the possibilities could have been endless... :(

I think the reason that Monica never returned to Victor was because since he was in law enforcement he would have been suspicious about her shady past and she was probably trying to protect him from the embarrassment that would occur if her crime was ever discovered...any thoughts...but then again this is another example of one of the storylines that just don't make sense ????

This is a conversation between Gideon and Eva in a VIP section of one of his clubs. There he is afraid of being overheard simply discussing sex, but a few months before he was supposedly performing sex acts on 2 women in a similar environment!

"I can't get you alone for more than a few minutes at a time." - G
"Because the only thing you want to talk about is what you have to do to get laid!" - E
"Christ, Eva," he hissed, squeezing my hand. "Keep your voice down!"

This is definitely one of those doesn't make sense moments that someone mentioned earlier. A book editor should have caught this. This is also what makes that dual bachelor party an unnecessary part of this book.

I had this book very early and waited to say anything because.......

Like many people I am disappointed for a number of reasons but first....

I loved 75 to 80% of the book....

      Love Lucky.

Arash is my new favorite he kicked Arnoldo out of that 1st place position

Love the sessions with Dr. Peterson.  I think we learn a lot about Gideon and gain some additional insight into Eva in these scenes.

I love the lunch session with the Crossroads group.  I believe this is an indicator that Eve will work with Gideon.  He loves having her in the Crossfire building.

Love Gideon attending the luncheon for Eva.  Love that man!

Angus holds my heart.  He does love Gideon and tells him like it is.

Love Chris and the dinner with Gideon, Eva, and Chris was perfect.

Love the showdown with Lizzie the b**** (we see she is a bad mother), Deanna (great scene especially when Gideon tells her Eva wanted him to offer her a job) and Corrine is out.

Victor - love when he's angry and I love that he is moving to NYC.

What bothers me and ruined the 5* for me...

Cary's story--we never find out if the baby is his, if Trey is going to forgive him or if he can really be faithful.

    The Landon's storyline is incomplete.

That bachelor/bachelorette parties on two different continents.  I get that it set up a headline to expose the stalker camera man who was going to be important to the next problem for me.  It just didn't work for me.   I'm happy that Anne is getting arrested and exposed but that whole trip didn't work for me.

Monica's story--I actually like the backstory.  It explains a lot but I hate that she was killed off.  It stopped the "second marriage".  Eve didn't get to wear her grandmother's wedding dress.  Why bring it up at all if she doesn't have the ceremony.  The trip to NC was a downer instead of a celebration of Eva & Gideon's new life together and no reception.  Then the funeral was lacking any feels for me.   If you are going to put this in why not have substance to the scene.

The epilogue wasn't a true epilogue it was a final chapter with an epilogue heading.

I agree with all of your points Sharon and another scene that I absolutely hated in the book besides the dual bachelor parties was when Eva popped into Gideon's office after he had just found out about Deanna being the ghostwriter...Eva seemed to have a little tantrum and Gideon acted like a spoiled billionaire child also. As I was reading this I was thinking "what is this?"  Gideon and Eva never act like that in front of others...even Scott was there to witness it. Maybe  in private but not even  that ...I just thought that scene was so ODD ...

I would go as far to say that Monica's death was the ruination of the book for me. As Sharon said it put an end to all of the storyline that had been building up in the previous 400 pages. At the end of the day it was supposed to  be a romance novel  not a crime story; VERY  DISAPPOINTING ...     :(

I'd love to read this book again with an alternate ending...   :)

According to the other books Gideon did not act so brazenly out in public.  Yes, this is foreplay, but so out of the normal from what we were led to believe about Gideon.  He used his f@#$ pad. He is also a successful business man...what is he thinking doing "foreplay" out in public where pictures of the foreplay were taken.  He says he was always in control except when he wanted Eva.  He says he couldn't control himself and broke his rules for her.  Come on here....he was sucking on one woman's nipple and fingering the other.  REALLY GIDEON??!!!  You are a 12 billion dollar business man.  How stupid of you to act this way.  And Sylvia don't confuse us...either he uses the f@#$ pad for all  his sexual encounters  like the first 4 books eluded us too...or he didn't...which is it. It was with Eva only that he lost control away from his f@#$ pad  or so we were to believe.

In Gideon's defense lol that was a private VIP section in probably one of his clubs so it must have been one of those girls that took the photos and btw did anyone think Deanna could have been behind the leak of that photo?

I hated the dual bachelor parties... I would much rather have read about Gideva enjoying some much needed private time  at the beach house...

  18. LUCKY is the best new character ever :)

Since it was mentioned that Tat was already dating someone else I think that she was just lying about being pregnant. This would have been a great way to tie up that storyline because Cary could now move on and reach his full potential with no baggage and without the crutch of Eva. Monica and Stanton even offered for him to stay in the apartment so he would be well on his way to self sufficiency at some point. Cary has always been a mainstay in Gideva's relationship much to Gideon's dismay so I think this storyline is one that could have been wrapped up quite easily.

  19. I have been on this blog about 4 years and anytime a member mentions Goodreads or another site I never visit those sites to look because i just don't think those readers are as invested in the series as we on the blog are. Most of the time I think they must have read a different book because mainly I just don't get where they are coming from and some of the posts are unprofessional and rude lol. :)

Hi Eve my answer is yes I do think this is the venue to air our thoughts and feelings about  OWY . We have all been totally invested in Gideva's story over a period of years and even though some may be a little "unsatisfied" we remain huge fans of this series and Sylvia's writing.

  21. I think everyone on the forum has stated that they thought there were just too many loose ends to tie up at some point. That being said I think that everyone thought it couldn't be wrapped up; even in 500 pages and it certainly wasn't. At the end of the day it is Sylvia's story and she can write it any way she wants.   :).
