  1. Great point jmhope, there is a big difference in working for and working with!!

I also liked when Gideon suggested in EWY that Eva could be a "fixer" .... Someone who works in crisis management...I think she would be very good at that or heading up Crossroads; it doesnt sound like Gideon personally works on those projects and Eva could take that and run with it...make it her own. I think CBY was really all about Eva coming to the realization that her life was going to change as Mrs. Gideon Cross whether she wants it to or not and there's no stopping it now. Definitely think that Gideon should have had major discussions with Eva before offering Mark a position but he knew that would probably just be another rough night and he certainly wants to avoid conflict with Eva at all costs. Cant wait for OWY. I think they will be back in sync and working together for a fabulous future together. Since it is already October; I think the wedding will have to take place fairly soon in the new book because the weather at the Outer Banks will be too cold for an outdoor ceremony if they wait much longer !!

  2. Chapter 17

It provokes me that Elizabeth seems to be so hurtful towards Gideon, like she is the victim in their relationship. In my opinion she has no right to be.

It warms my heart everytime G is comforting E and say that he would never go back.

I get why Arnoldo is skeptical to Eva, but I don't think Corrine deserves the respect she gets from him. He can not be aware of what she is up to, what she has said and done the last few weeks (suicide attempt, threats, the book and so on) Corrine needs to know when her visiting hour is over, and get on with her life (far away from Gideva). She needs to act with a bit more dignity.

I'm curious who the "others" Gideon refers to besides Anne, Landon, Corrine & Chris Jr.

I guess Angus saw Corinne in the window, wonder if she looked like she were sad, hurt or more vindictive. Wonder if someone is pushing her to do the tell-it-all-book. First one to mind is Anne Lucas, using the book as therapy, but Chris Jr is the type to do harm wherever he can manage to do so.

Gideon and Eva sparring together would be fun, it would turn them both on, so it wouldn't last that long lol. Fact is that (perhaps with a bit more training) with her Krav Mags skills she'll able to take out a trained MMA player.

We have discussed alot whether G offering Marc a new job was okay or not. Like I've pointed out in another thread, I don't think G would hire just "anyone". He wants to alert Landon that he's paying attention. I still believe that G wants a great and qualified staff. I don't think Eva will lose her job, because there is too much at risk for Waters Field & Leaman.

It is good that Arnoldo and Gideon are back on track. I wish Arnoldo will stop defending Corinne, accept Eva, and see that Gideva is meant to be.

You bring up an interesting point about Angus...Maybe he wasn't looking at Corinne in that window; maybe he had caught a glimpse of Anne Lucas at another table in disguise... Gideon being distressed over his meeting with Corinne would not have noticed her. Perhaps Anne Lucas told Corinne she would be present for moral support if in fact Anne is brain washing Corinne into writing the book...OMG!

  3. chapter 17I wonder if the dress that Gideon got rid of was the one he bought Eva in BTY? Glad that G was upfront with Eva and told her right away about Corrine's tell all book. Nice also to hear the difference between how G felt about Eva compared to Corrine. What does Corine want Gideon to remember about their relationship? Even if he did love her in a way, he stopped and was glad because he couldn't explain why he couldn't spend the entire night in their bed and how to explain the nightmares. Corrine feels she can only let him go by writing this tell all book, if she had cared so much, she wouldn't have gotten married, unless it was a ploy to get Gideon to come back to her. Boy did that backfire.Yea, Gideon alot of people are coming out of the woodwork. Watch your back and Eva's.Even Mark says that Eva will lose her job if he leaves. Doesn't seem fair to Eva. I am confused by this.Glad that Arnoldo and Gideon sorta made up and their friendship is back on track.Sparing with Eva, I feel, is a mistake. Somone could get hurt in more ways than one.

The dress that Gideon got rid of was the Vera Wang that he bought for her for the fundraiser where she first met Corinne. This was the dress that exposed a great amount of cleavage that he wanted to cover with a scarf LOL!!

  4. I too want to know how Monica managed after her family disowned her. How old Eva was when Monica married husband #1, where they lived and how often Victor saw baby Eva, or did they not get together until she went off to college?

I definitely think there had to be some sort of visitation process in place. Eva would not want to go and live with someone she hardly knew so it makes sense that she had a somewhat close relationship with him prior to moving to San Diego.

  5. I sneaked in to the next chapter but haven't yet fully read it. I did notice something I missed the first time round - Gideon did a little more explaining to Eva about Anne. In the lines just after she told Gideon he has an amazing body and a huge c*ck and he finally tells Eva it was different with Anne. He says that she reminds him of Hugh some of which he can explain, some he can't. He says the line between them (Hugh and Anne) blurred in his mind and he did things to her he'd never done with anyone else, things that made him feel sick when he thought about them.He then says "It was twisted between Anne and me. I twisted her." so presumably he introduced Anne to the flogger etc. I believe we've always thought his previous experiences had been vanilla and in the f*ck pad. Somewhere along the line though he has either seen or experienced a sex swing and he knows the rudiments of dbsm so presumably at some point he has visited a sex club (wonder if he found Christopher there!)?

Yes I do think that Gideon has visited a sex club and maybe has even encountered Deanna there??? LOL!!

  6. Quote "jmhope - Gideon uses sex to quiet Eva and she wants/needs sex to be a connection and to mean something"I re-read the chapter this morning and thought that as Dr Peterson is currently only treating Gideon for his father's death as he has not yet been told about the childhood abuse, Gideon is actually also using sex as a connection.I wonder if Gideon will talk about his previous sexual encounters during couples therapy, or restrict it to his one to ones with Dr P, part of me hopes it is the latter - if it were me I wouldn't want to know about the depravity.

I dont think Eva wants to know the details as Eva did not want Gideon to view those videos Nathan had. I'm sure Gideon will restrict those discussions to his private therapy as most abuse survivors have great shame associated with the episodes and Gideon would be no different.

  8. chapter 16Dr. P seems to know his stuff I suppose; he seems to have a good sense of G and E. Gideon uses sex to quiet Eva and she wants/needs sex to be a connection and to mean something. (one of her sticking points at the beginning in BTY when G first came on to her) Gideon does shove everything that is bothering him away and tries to ignore them.Eva made a good point that Cary always has someone over and she should have realized that Cary needed her, but she isn't a mind reader. Cary is like calling the kettle black, he can have relationships, but Eva needs to stay home and concentrate on him and not work on finding love herself. It is a shame that Cary can't tell Trey about the baby and Tat by himself, he needs to grow up and "a pair".A pity that Gideon didn't/couldnt stay with Eva after waking her and making love to her during the night :(

Gideon may be new to relationships but at least he knows to keep his mouth shut where Eva and Cary are concerned...My hope for OWY is that Gideva are sleeping peacefully together in their OWN place with their own decorating style and their friends/families in their own buildings several blocks away LOL. ;). ;)

  9. Well I really don't want to see Victor have an accident but I do think that once Gideva start a family he will move to NYC anyway. He would be a great role model to those kids and who of course would they trust more than Victor to watch their children. They wouldn't need to employ a nanny LOL . Between Victor and Mommyca; those kids will be smothered to death LOL!!

  10. chapter 15Gideon being jealous is awesome usually it is Eva. Sad that Gideon thinks that Eva doesn't want him to father her children. Doubt that they really have had that conversation. They need to start COMMUNICATING. Still love it when G refers to E as his wife, when supposedly they are only engaged.A shame that Cary is "cutting" again and blaming others because he is so stressed.Gideon still denying that Chris believing him is bothering him and Eva calls him on it is good and G still harping on her working with him is starting to p*ss her off. He should realize that. Gideon hates his feeling of weakness; now that he has Eva I guess he was always cold hearted and ruthless with people.Clancey confirms that he cleaned up the mess and put a dead suspect to take the blame of the killing of Nathan, pretty much giving G a "get out of jail free card". He said he did it for Eva and I guess he has evidence against G, so if G treats E badly that evidence will appear whether Clancey is dead or alive.Dissappointed that Gideon is missing his former life before Eva, seems sometimes he misses the simplicity.Deanna is a b*tch and still wants Gideon, but at least she brought news about Corrine and her tell all book.Gideon has had a rough couple of days

Yes jmhope I was disappointed initially when Gideon "missed" his old life too; but I did think it was a little of what Dr. Travis said at the beginning of the book...maybe it was just a longing for something a little less complicated... Although if you think about it alot of the stressors in Gideva's lives currently are due to his baggage from the past namely Ann Lucas, Corinne, Chris Jr, his mother. As Gideon gets deeper into his relationship with Eva he is realizing that he cant exert complete control over her and that it is actually easier to be a global magnate than to be a husband to a passionate, latino bombshell!!LOL

  11. I need to re-read (not quite caught up), but hope I'm remembering this properly - after speaking to Chris Snr Gideon broke down. He was drinking (can't remember if he was drunk but Eva had realised he had been drinking and up to this point in the books he only seemed to have occasional drinks). He was angry and had said to Eva that his unexplainable reaction to her original conversation with Chris Snr was to be incredibly turned on. Hugh had possibly conditioned Gideon to use sex to alleviate his anger. I thought in what Gideon said to Eva during the earlier part of the elevator scene that he was wary of his actions towards her while in this state - I guess he would have been a bit like this when with Anne and her description of what he did to her was fuelled by anger - so he's probably scared of getting that carried away with Eva.I suspect the 'you brought this on' was because everything had led him to lose his usual control over himself and the anger had come to the fore rather than be buried inside in the way he does.In turn Eva is angry with him - he ties her up and seemingly walks away leaving her worried she is going to be exposed to other residents, until she realises it is a private lift and can't go anywhere. She was also expecting Gideon to turn up at her apartment for some s*xy time and had chosen a s*xy outfit - I thought at first she taunted him with the outfit when she removed the coat which was when he tied her to the elevator rail and disappeared. Now I wonder did she show him what she was wearing as she knew it would make him not want to wait to have her - and in doing that was she showing him that she trusted him, even when he was in the state she found him, to take care of her and not hurt her? One reviewer did mention a rape scene which I presume was about this scene, which I would have probably also thought was the case if the scene had been written from Gideon's POV, but it is from Eva's and all along she seems okay with his actions. Angry s*x when controlled can be exciting, but Gideon was not in control of himself plus during s*x he was used to being the one in control (which seemed to be part of his method in the f*ck pad taming the women he took there).I do wonder if Sylvia had not intended to take the story down the avenue of bdsm, Gideon's comments to Eva in one of the other books (I think when he gave her the promise ring and she likened it to a collar) were that he did not need any of that with her. But as the story grew I wonder if Sylvia decided to put something in relating to bdsm. There were hints from Gideon as he knew about safe words and hand cuffs and how the person wearing the cuffs should feel, plus he knew about a sex swing (although that all could be learnt from p*rn magazines which most young males would have accessed). Not sure if any of that makes sense and sorry if I've added anything glaringly obvious, I'm kind of thinking aloud on paper here :)

I cant believe that someone read that scene as a rape scene; at no time in that sequence did Eva ever say no or stop as a matter of fact it was exactly the opposite... Eva wanted Gideon desperately to have sex with her...

  12. I don't know If it is the answer, and I don't know if it has anything to do with control... The first thing that comes to my mind is that Gideon in that scene is totally out of it. I guess that the conversation with Chris Sr triggered all of his hidden away feelings. Some victims can not stand to be touched when they feel shame, nauseous, embarrassed and so on. In addition to that he is turned on, and very afraid to hurt Eva, afraid of himself and what he is capable of. So my guess is that the reason why she could not touch him in that scene, is a mix of all of this.

I think he thought that if Eva touched him he wouldnt be able to let go and things would progress beyond what he was capable of handling at that moment...

  13. I'm looking up Fixed Trilogy for after This Man.  Sylvia once said her favorite book is The Fifth Favor.  I ordered it on Amazon because it can't be downloaded.  The author wrote another about a character in the book and it is good too, but the names escapes me.  Anyway, I have read the Fifth Favor several times.  It breaks your heart and also a great read.

Yes I have read that one too.

  14. Totally agree Michele I love to read about their daily lives because it makes them so much more real... I do have to say after I read the book the first time it certainly wasnt my favorite but now after rereading many times I realize it is very deep and it does require more than one read. I love Sylvia's writing of any scene ; sexual or otherwise but in this book Gideon describes being inside Eva as a surrender and a conquest... I think a line like that is what makes us come back to these books...Sylvia is an amazing writer!! Btw the This Man books are very good but also try the Fixed Trilogy by Laurelin Page it is an excellent read while you wait for Book 5...

  15. I really enjoyed Chapter 12.The shower scene and talk were really romantic. You would think it would make a difference with LanCorp when someone working on their account is engaged to their chief rival. Alarms should have sounding for both Eva and Mark.Glad Eva finally realized that she should have closed the door on Brett a long time ago. She should have never invited him up to the apartment in EWY and just said good bye to him in the limo. Can't believe that Brett expected a kiss/hug when they met for lunch. Eva had to tell him that she is MARRIED twice. Why bring up Gideon's past.? It is what it is the PAST. If Brett missed Eva so much why wait 4 years, and to say the other girl reminds him of Eva is just really LAME!! Brett showing the video to others was really low and to think that he thought that Eva wouldn't mind; it was probably his way of bragging.Arash is still my favorite new character, he is such a hoot. Gideon being there at lunch to make sure Eva was fine was super. What a man, then they made the date that night for Eva to have her way with him....what a lucky girl.!!!

Yes,agreed. The shower scene was a beautiful, tender moment before the volatility of the coming chapters. The calm before the storm.

  16. I wish Gideon & Eva would have their own family one day, and I think it would do G good. First of all they will have to stabilize their relationship, enjoy eachother (ideally for a few years), and last but not least they both have a lot to work out (especially Gideon) with Dr.P before they are ready to take care of a child. If Eva gets pregnant, I think they will handle it, but I wish they would enjoy eachother for a while first.

Totally agree with this Ann; I would love to read about that chapter of their life but it's just too soon... Maybe when Gideon is 30 to 32 yo and Eva will be 26 to 28 yo the perfect age... I agree with you that they should enjoy each other with nothing to distract them like the petty jealousies of others...I envision them with their 2 young children at the beach house and after they put the kids to bed Gideon has his way with Eva on the deck...LOL!!

  17. Usually the person leaving is replaced and would inherit the co-workers so it did seem odd that Eva immediately said she would lose her job. I think we maybe had to suspend reality for this as there needed to be a reason why Eva would leave Gideon in order for him to break and finally tell Dr Peterson all the reasons for his nightmares (well, all except for Nathan). Although I felt Eva was a little childish to leave Gideon for this particular reason, of all the things for her to run away because of, it is the one that is easiest to resolve for the story line to continue and for Gideon to realise that although he wants to control Eva there has to be some compromise on both sides.

I honestly think Gideon wants to protect Eva not control her. The Lancorp account spelled disaster in every way for Eva. Down the road if their product was a bust they could say that Eva leaked information to her husband etc such as corporate espionage. They could have destroyed her reputation in an attempt to hurt Gideon and they certainly would have achieved that because Gideon would never want to negatively impact Eva's career.

  18. Just because a boss leaves or changes jobs, it doesn't mean everyone who works for him/her get let go.  They could certainly keep Eva, but she likes working for Mark.  Also, she realizes she can not work on the LanCorp RFP/campaign, so she will have to let management know that.  Ann Cathrin makes some good points as to why the ad agency would want to keep her, just move her to another Acct manager (Jr or otherwise).

I think Eva is starting to see that being married to Gideon is going to color her world in certain ways.  Working for the ad agency may not be best fit for her, especially if Gideon's competitors are going to come at her/him that way.  She is mentally fighting the inevitable and trying to justify in her mind that this isn't the case.  That certainly adds to why she is so mad at Gideon, at least in my mind.  I don't agree with her moving in with her mom and totally shutting out Gideon, but I can see where this is a catalyst for her and hits very close to her triggers. Her 'choice' is being negated, but she will have to realize that some of that was her 'choice' to marry Gideon.  This is just a fall out from that decision.

Totally agree avid reader... Well said... Even though I strongly disagree with the way Gideon handled the situation as per his usual mo of not talking to Eva first ; Eva fleeing to her mother's over protective arms is almost laughable!! Even Gideon has a hard time believing it; but that just further increases his distress because he thinks that if Eva would rather be around her mother than her dark and dangerous sex god; things certainly must be pretty bad. I think the next book will open with their joint appointment at Dr. Peterson's. Hopefully he will be able to offer them some unbiased insight and then I hope they go out for a very private, romantic dinner ; perhaps somewhere off the beaten path like Rossi's lol and work their way back to each other. :). :)
