Mothers and Fathers - Monica and Elizabeth and Victor and Geoffrey
BettyY37 replied to BettyY37's topic in The Crossfire Saga
MeganCoils You and I are in the minority regarding Monica.  She definitely still carries serious scars regarding not protecting her daughter.  I also believe she did the best she could.  I also agree, Elizabeth does not appear to feel remorse for what happened to her child.  THOUGHT Has anyone other than Eva and Cary seen Gideon's nightmares?  I would accept your possiblities for Christopher except his behavior toward Magdalene and his tendancy to lash out at Gideon in additon to what he told Eva at lunch make him seem like a young man who wants to hurt his brother.  I read that quote as saying Gideon identified a time and place.  Christopher was there but he contradicted Gideon and said nothing happened.  Christopher could have been abused by Hugh but if Hugh liked Gideon, his brother may have been too young. One important fact that is unknown at this time is how long did Gideon's abuse last. -

Hi MegansCoils and Vikki Sixx  I like your comments and suggestions. v I like the look of Ian and I like Scarlet too.  I will look up Lana Del Ray because i am not familar with her.  I tend to find specific songs for specific scenes or events.  I posted several on the "Music" topic alreadylike  Bruno Mars "When I Was Your Man" for Brett when he finally realizes Eva is Gideons  This song is from the Broadway musical "Wicked" for Corinne when she learns Gideon has chosen Eva  "I'm Not That Girl" Hands touch, eyes meet Sudden silence, sudden heat Hearts leap in a giddy whirl He could be that boy But I'm not that girl Don't dream too far Don't lose sight of who you are Don't remember that rush of joy He could be that boy I'm not that girl Ev'ry so often we long to steal To the land of what-might-have-been But that doesn't soften the ache we feel When reality sets back in Blithe smile, lithe limb She who's winsome, she wins him Gold hair with a gentle curl That's the girl he chose And Heaven knows I'm not that girl Don't wish, don't start Wishing only wounds the heart I wasn't born for the rose and the pearl There's a girl I know He loves her so I'm not that girl... -
Sorry I do not know how to copy someone post into my response for quick reference. Â SSCRPH I agree with you 100% about The Lucas clan and Christopher being part of the "bitter enemies out of the shadows". Â I think Christopher is an especially strong candidate to seek more revenge against Gideon. Â He told their mother nothing happened between Gideon and Hugh when he was just a child. Â Â I have a list of loose ends that I hope Slyvia will tie-up in the next two books.

Mothers and Fathers - Monica and Elizabeth and Victor and Geoffrey
BettyY37 replied to BettyY37's topic in The Crossfire Saga
Gideon was named after his father, Gideon Geoffrey Cross. He talks about fun times at the beach and carrying the shame of what his father did. I think the most telling comment Gideon makes about his feelings for his father are made when he is speaking about someone else “He only knows that his dad is gone, by choice, and he’s left behind. He’ll believe his father didn’t care enough about him to stay.†“Baby.†I pulled his head toward me, urging him to rest against me. I didn’t know what to say. I couldn’t make excuses for Geoffrey Cross and I knew Gideon was thinking of him, as well as the boy he himself had once been. “You didn’t do anything wrong.†Excerpt From: Day, Sylvia. “Entwined with You.†Penguin Group -

“Unfortunately. I was mean, and now I’m feeling awful about it. I need to talk to him but it’s weird, because the person I’m feeling most loyal to is Stanton. I don’t even like the guy half the time†Excerpt From: Day, Sylvia. “Entwined with You.†Eva is conflicted. She speaks of loyalty to Stanton because of what he has done for her and her mother. Eva knows her dad and mother were morally wrong but she states in this conversation with Cary she would be less "freaked" if they had gone some place else. Her feelings are not resolved -

Eva loves Victor Reyes, her father. When she discovers "My parents slept with each other.†she tells her father she is ashamed of him. Eva is morally outraged at his behavior in the apartment paid for by her stepfather, Richard Stanton. Eva tells Cary she does not even like Stanton "half the time." Where should her loyalties be? -
Sylvia  Please have Jill Redfield narrate "Captivated by You".  She is excellent.  Using the same reader for all the audiobooks in a series provides continuity.  That is my way of saying we need her for the fifth book too!

In chapter 17 of "Reflected in You" Elizabeth says “I’m Christopher’s mother, too, and he was there. He swears nothing happened. Who was I supposed to believe when there was no proof? No one could find anything to support Gideon’s claims.†I wondered if Gideon knew Christopher told their mother nothing happened. I do not think Gideon knows. He said in chapter 20 of "Bared to You" “Over the years, I’ve made every attempt to talk to Christopher. I’ve tried throwing money at him. I’ve tried threatening him. He’s never shown any inclination to change. I realized long ago that I can only do damage control†Gideon does not sound like a man who knows his brother betrayed him along with Dr.Terrence Lucas. (We know what Gideon did to Lucas.) Elizabeth was wrong to not believe Gideon. As his mother too, she should have known about Christopher's feelings toward Gideon. -
In the first three books of the Crossfire series we have been introduced to the mothers of the main characters. Â Both women had to deal with the sexual abuse of their children. Â How they dealt with that abuse has helped to shape the adults at the center of this series. Â Neither Eva nor Gideon had their biological fathers with them during their ordeal. Â The absence of each man probably had an impact on what happened to their children and events in their lives afterwards. Â Sylvia told us today old wounds, insecurities, and enemies are going to significantly effect the relationship between Eva and Gideon in the fourth book "Captivated by You". Â Now would be a good time to discuss the parents. Â We can talk about what they did or did not do, should or should not have done and in the case of the fathers could or could not do. Â Â PS Opinions about stepfathers are also welcome.
-
One "old wound and insecurity" may be exposed by Gideon's mother. Â When she sees Eva's engagement ring, she is not happy. Â Elizabeth told Eva 'I won't let you take him (Gideon) away from me," in chapter 23 of Entwined with You. Â We know Gideon was hurt by his mother not believing him.

The Lionsgate Production of the Crossfire Series

Listening to music I thought Beyonce's "Halo" recorded by a guy would be good music for the end of chapter 18 after Gideon tells Eva how he had been abused as a child  "Remember those walls I built Well, baby they're tumbling down And they didn't even put up a fight They didn't even make a sound I found a way to let you in But I never really had a doubt Standing in the light of your halo I got my angel now It's like I've been awakened Every rule I had you breakin' It's the risk that I'm takin' I ain't never gonna shut you out Everywhere I'm looking now I'm surrounded by your embrace Baby I can see your halo You know you're my saving grace You're everything I need and more It's written all over your face Baby I can feel your halo Pray it won't fade away I can feel your halo halo halo" (This is not the entire song)  I do not have a singer in mind.  Any suggestions? -
BettyY37, on 01 Oct 2013 - 10:51 AM, said: Hi Sharonm745  My imagination can conjure up a lot of scenarios where the records may not be readily available....misplaced by hotel staff, fire at the records office, destroyed by Christopher, misfiled by accident by a government emplyee, etc. as well as the circumstances where Angus cannot help.  All would be feasible in the real world as well as a work of fiction.  My comments were just my stream-of-consciousness, my sense of a possible dramatic plotline  As I have stated before, Sylvia will take us where she wants but this forum allows us to play with what she has given us and to say thank you for the ride.  PS A happy ending has never been in doubt for me!

Sylvia What a wonderful surprise.  Just spent an hour and a half trying to decipher your message with a fellow Crossfire series fan.  LOVE the first paragraph describing Gideon as "My gorgeous, wounded warrior, so determined to slay my demons while refusing to face his own."  We spent a lot of time trying to figure out who the "lured bitter enemies out of the shadows." could be.  You told us the last two books would focus on Gideon so the idea that "At the brightest time in our lives, the darkness of his past encroached and threatened everything we’d worked so hard for." is not a surprise theme at this point in the series.  I just hope "The vows we'd exchanged should have bound us tighter than blood and flesh." are at the wedding everyone will know about not just the ones they made in private.  I have been concerned since "Entwined With You" that not knowing where the marriage documents are my cause Eva problems if she has to fight for Gideon.  But that is my storyline, not necessarily yours.  Finally I want to thank you for writing the best romance series we have read.  I just started reading the genre in March of this year but my friend has been reading them for six year. It is truly the most "CAPTIVATING". (No pun intended)  PS Please publish soon.  I am not getting any younger

The Lionsgate Production of the Crossfire Series
BettyY37 replied to BettyY37's topic in The Crossfire Saga
We know the actor who plays Gideon has to play sex scenes (for reference check out Henry Cavill as Charles Brandon in "The Tudors") but he needs to have dramatic skills too I think Lionsgate should use the scene at the end of chapter 18 in "Reflected in You" for auditions. Gideon and Eva are in his Mercedes after he picks her up at Dr. Terrence Lucas' office. This is when he tells her about the abuse he experienced. Do you have any suggestions? I purposefully picked a scene without sex. -

Gideon tells Eva in chapter one of "Reflected in You" that he first saw her outside "On the sidewalk" before she entered the Crossfire Building. Â Since this event happens in the first chapter of "Bared to You", do you think the scene should be played as Eva saw it or as Gideon did? Â Eva did not see Gideon or the Bentley on her way into the building. Â Gideon saw her walking down the street toward his building, watched her admire the Crossfire from the outside, then walk inside. Â I would like to see the Bared to You scene played out from Gideon's perspective but without showing his face until Eva sees him standing in front of her. Â What do you think? -
Gigi  I look forward to your post.  I the meantime, everyones seems to love Victor but they do not want him to have the only woman that can make him happy.  I like Arnoldo's statement to Eva when Gideon gets into the fight with Brett, "I have never seen him the way he is with you.  I can't say you are worthy of him, but you can make him happy."  I think that could be said for Monica and Victor too.
-
I think only Sylvia and I are Monica's champions  Sylvia has not written unkind things about Monica.  No one in the series blames Monica for what happened to Eva except Monica.  Gideon says in his speech at the advocacy dinner "In North America, childhood sexual abuse is experienced by one in every four women and one in every six men." which would mean more then 25% of all parents lack skills. Eva says "No.  My God, if she'd known, she would've gotten me out of there." when Gideon asked her "Did you tell your mother?"  Eva only accuses her mother of "smothering".  She only really becomes angry at Monica and Victory for sleeping together.  She is against cheating on Stanton because he was good to them but Eva admitts she would be "less freaked about it if they'd gone somewhere else."  I did not read of any wrath from Victor toward Monica except when he tells Eva "I'm never going to forgive her for not giving you my last name when you were born."  By the time of this story he is no longer angry about the money.  I did searches in all three books becuase my copies are ebooks!

Gigi you are soooo bad! Â You know Cary is going to be with Trey raising his daighter from Tatiana in their Fifth Avenue apartment after Tat goes back to Europe!

Hi GLH My friends call me Analytical so here is the Monica I got to know: She worries constantly about her daughter's safety and well-being. She uses the resources of her husbands. (too many to present) “As soon as she’d found out what her stepson was doing to me, she’d left a husband she was happy with and filed for divorce.â€....Eva talking about her mother Excerpt From: Day, Sylvia. “Bared to You.†Penguin Group, USA, 2012-05-29. iBooks. This material may be protected by copyright. “You were an innocent, Eva. She feels guilty for not protecting you. We need to give her a little latitude.â€...Stanton talking about his wife still seeing Dr. Petersen Excerpt From: Day, Sylvia. “Bared to You.†Penguin Group, USA, 2012-05-29. iBooks. This material may be protected by copyright. She was a debutant who accepted being disowned by her family rather then give up Victor's unborn child. She gave up Victor, the man she loved, to insure their child had the best possible life. She accepted, supported, and nurtured Cary for her daughter and utilized her husband's assets to do it. Most important (to me to forgive her shortcomings), she put her marriage and her relationship with her daughter at risk for a chance to spend time with Victor after 25 years.

Hi SSCRPH Â CSLOL (can't stop laughing out loud) about your comment above.

Is it possible to correct an audiobook?  In "Reflected in You" Jill reads from chapter 5, "My mom had been going through a rough patch with husband number three".  That would be Stanton so Eva would have only gone to stay with her dad less then four years ago.  My ebook from iTunes says "husband number two".  Number two makes more sense.

“Do you resent her, Daddy?†“I used to.†He put his arm around my shoulders. “I’m never going to forgive her for not giving you my last name when you were born. But I’m not mad about the money thing anymore. I’d never be able to make her happy in the long run, and she knew herself enough to know that.†I nodded, feeling sorry for all of us.†Excerpt From: Day, Sylvia. “Reflected in You.†Penguin Group, USA, 2012-09-28. iBooks. “My mom looked tired, which wasn’t like her at all. I knew she was worried about Stanton. And she was maybe spending time thinking about my dad, too. It seemed impossible to me that she wouldn’t, after seeing him for the first time in nearly twenty-five years. His longing for her had been hot and alive to me; I couldn’t imagine what it must have felt like to her.†Excerpt From: Day, Sylvia. “Reflected in You.†Penguin Group, USA, 2012-09-28. iBooks. This material may be protected by copyright. Hi SSCRPH The quotes above makes me think Eva might like her parents together. There are more expressions of positive feelings from Eva about her parents being together. Since they did get together, they must have liked the idea too.

The Lionsgate Production of the Crossfire Series
BettyY37 replied to BettyY37's topic in The Crossfire Saga
I just watched a show about how television has changed recently.  With my new found knowledge, I would like to make a proposal to Lionsgate (if you are reading this):  Film all five books at one time and present the results on television like Netflix presented "House Of Cards".  The entire first season of House of Cards,13 episodes, premiered on the same day.  This option for the Crossfire series is fabulous.  Your audience will love you for it.  First, this type of production might make more actors available becuase it would be a long movie shot rather than a comment of years.  Second, sets and locations would not have to be maintained and/or retained for as long.  Third, you can present your finished product when interest is at its peak.  Fourth, the series already has a beginning, middle and end.  It is not a story that will continue like a regular television show where new scripts are presented each season until writers run out of ideas.  It suits the format of a movie but a movie made like a mini-series which allows for character development and details that are so often lost when books are made into movies for the big screen.  Fifth, many of your viewers will already have read all the books so there is no suspense.  (Another idea would be to present it like "Roots".  Then you could keep people watching for weeks!)  Based on the views of this forum, your primary audience cannot wait for the last two books.  And if you give us the right cast in your television show, we will ask Santa to put the box set under our Christmas trees or ask Cupid to bring the set for  Valentine's Day with our chocolate and flowers. -
