  1. I didn't understand it that way. Could you let me know where she might have written that please? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Â
  2. Hi Sheens263, I agree with your assessment. I don't think that it was a wedding dress either. It was just a really beautiful dress that could have been worn to a beach event. Who knew that it would end up becoming Eva's wedding dress...Â
  3. Hi Jennpenn926, OMG!! Those numbers are staggering and make me want to vomit!!
  4. Hi Sscrph, That's what I thought. The only mention that was made of Elizabeth Vidal attending a "Charity Event" is on page 350 of EWY. On Page 319, Eva mentions to Gideon that she has to attend one of her mom's charity events but she never specifically mentioned that this was a charity event for children who suffered abuse.  That' what made me think that other than Christopher Jr. (who is an entity unto himself), none of the other Vidals openly supported abuse charities or Gideon's philanthropic pursuits. Thank you for that confirmation. Â
  5. Hi Fayeth, No worries. It can be a little difficult sometimes; separating fact from speculation. All we know is that Gideon made a deal with Deanna about the second wedding. I secretly do hope that Gideon had forethought about having a few private wedding photos taken of the two of them during the beach ceremony.  I would think that Eva would find that an incredibly romantic and touching gesture! At least I would find that incredibly romantic and touching! :)
  6. Hi Gabri, Who is "Peg-Leg Pete" and the "Beagle Boys"? Now I am curious!
  7. Hi Claudine, I just wanted to say, thank you for explaining the lastest theory for me. I have been having a hard time time trying to link all of the missing pieces (what, who, when, where and why) and I just haven't been able to do so. So I think for me (as a result of not being able to link all of the pieces together), that theory is bunk, (i.e. it isn't true). I think that Dr. Lucas did see physical signs of abuse and that he covered up said abuse by "lying and saying that he didn't see anything". Nothing else seems to make sense. I would be absolutely sure that a pediatrician, MD, nurse, or other healthcare professional would ask who would do this to you. I could see Gideon saying something, Dr. Lucas's face dropping and the cover up beginning. I don't know that for a fact, so I can only speculate at this point. Gideon most likely wouldn't have known that Hugh was Dr. Lucas's brother-in-law and he may only have known him as Hugh. If Dr. Lucas did a little investigating, he may have found out on his own (or through dinner chat with his wife that she and her brother were treating Elizabeth Vidal and Gideon Cross) that his brother-in-law was a pedophile and maybe that's when he decided to keep this information from his wife. Maybe in keeping that secret from his wife, Dr. Lucas started to distance himself from her because of misplaced disgust or fear that if he got too close to his wife that he would end up telling her about her brother. Who knows? I just can't see someone; a pediatrician going out of their way to lie when there would be absolutely no reason to lie.Do you know what I mean? Thanks for the discussion.
  8. Hi Julie, I think it would depend on whether Anne Lucas was able to carry out her professional medical duties. If she was having a difficult time performing her duties, then I am sure she would have sought out professional help before complaints from patients and such.  If she was extremely depressed or suicidal, then she most likely wouldn't have been able to continue to actively treat patients. She wouldn't necessarily be capable of performing basic daily functions like bathing, sleeping, eating properly and such. It would depend on whether Anne Lucas would have the self awareness of not to realize that she was clinically depressed and whether she sought out treatment.Â
  9. Hi Claudine and Rogue, I agree with the last statement that you made Rogue. I could totally see Anne seeking revenge for being dumped by Gideon. She may also have felt humiliated because she was willing to leave her husband only to wind up with egg on her face and Gideon dumping her.Â
  10. Thank you for taking the time to add your two cents to this question.   I greatly appreciate it! I really hope that Sylvia writes in a word or two to clear up this "mystery" and then I hope she writes another sentence or two about how Corinne gets released from the hospital and takes a one-way trip back to France with her husband.Â
  11. Hi Rogue, You bring up some really good points. I never thought of that before, but it makes sense. Thank you.
  12. Hi Claudine, I just wanted to ask a quick question. I have asked in in other threads and no one has answered but maybe you can take a crack at it and help me understand. The latest theory is that Dr. Lucas covered up Gideon's abuse and that there was no physical evidence when he examined Gideon.  Well if there was no physical abuse, what would Dr. Lucas have to hide? He didn't see anything and therefore the claims and allegations would have been unfounded. What the heck would Dr. Lucas care about Gideon claims if he didn't see abuse. His nurse would have been able to testify to those fact confidently and clearly. He could have also sent Gideon to be examined by another pediatrician with confidence because there was nothing! So again, what is there to cover up? He wouldn't have to worry about documenting his findings in Gideon's chart so again I ask what the big deal is?  Why would Dr. Lucas care one way or another if Gideon was lying as a child? Can you please explain this to be because this theory makes absolutely no sense to me. No evidence of abuse means that this man is in the clear and that his brother-in-law is in the clear and not a pedophile. He wouldn't have to lie to his wife because he could put his hand on a bible (as well as the nurse) and state they never found anything! Nada! Nill! Zilch!! Help!
  13. I agree with you there! Â
  14. Hi Gabri, I agree! It doesn't matter how Corinne started off; mean, spitefull or such. What matters is that she made a serious attempt at killing herself. She is going to have to deal with all of the fallout as a result (realizing that she may have thrown away her marriage and that she miscarried her unborn baby).  If Anne Lucas was responsible for this entire scenario, then she needs to pay. I suspect that she will end up paying dearly for her actions (if Gideon and Eva have anything to say about the situation)!Â
  15. Hi Claudine, I read your comments and I can completely respect where you are coming from. I think at the end of the day, we know that Corinne was depressed, was becoming unstable because of her crying fits (as mentioned by Gideon when confronted by Eva about the situation), and then her attempted suicide.  I don't know what this character was thinking, I only know what Sylvia wrote and it was written that Corinne swallowed an entire bottle of pills.  According to mental health standards CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Research), Corinne's suicide attempt would have been classified as a serious attempt. It doesn't seem like an attention getting scheme (like say swallowing 5-10 pills). I think that maybe Corinne lost all hope in life and couldn't see any other reason to live.  I don't know what your specialty is per say (in this field), so I called CAMH a leading Hospital in Canada that specializes and deals with various mental illnesses and addictions only. As it was explained to me by CAMH, a person can't be severely depressed (as it seems that Corinne became eventually), mentally unstable and also manipulative. She wouldn't necessarily have the cognitive faculties to do both (she would have to be in charge of her faculties in order to manipulate).  When one talks about the level of depression that Corinne seemed to be suffering from, it would be difficult to believe that she would able to see past herself and her situation (which would have been utterly hopeless in her eyes).   I would be all ears to hear about your perspective on this situation. I can only say from mine, that when people I knew who tried to kill themselves, didn't do it for attention, they tried to kill themselves because they were severely depressed and didn't honestly think that anything would change for the better. What do you think? What have your experiences been with situations like this?
  16. Hi Everyone, I just wanted to clarify that a person does NOT need to be PSYCHOTIC or HAVE a psychotic BREAK in order to attempt suicide. One only needs to be suffering from SEVERE DEPRESSION. Let's not confuse two separate mental issues here. Thanks.  GiGi
  17. Hi Sheens263, What would Dr. Terry Lucas have to hide if he never saw any physical evidence when he examined Gideon for se***l abuse. That doesn't make sense. Why would he have to worry about keeping anything from Anne. He could honestly say to her that he never saw any signs of se****l abuse (in response to one of the theories).  What do you think?  How do you think this played out?Â
  18.  Hi Claudine, Do you think that someone who swallowed an entire bottle of pills was only trying to make a show of a suicide attempt? To me that seems really serious. It sounds like a woman who has lost all hope and reality. From what was written, it sounded like Corinne was really mentally ill and wanted to end her life.  I could be wrong, but I don't think that someone who swallows an entire bottle of pills is making a "show". I could be wrong, but thus far I don't think so.Â
  19. Hi Claudine, I agree. I wonder whether Jean Francois really stuck it Corinne by giving her the news.Â
  20. Hi Nrock, I like your theory about Nathan's dad disowning him later on. It would make sense that a father might not disown his child right away. Wouldn't a father hope that as sick and twisted as his child might be, that therapy might help that child to get better? Nathan would have still been a teenager and therefore not adult. So maybe Mr. Barker hoped (in vain) that his son could be helped, only to find out later on that Nathan was just as sick as he always was.  I think that Nathan's dad would have held onto his son's stuff and allowed him to keep his stuff at the family home. Ultimately I think that Mr. Barker realized that his son was never going to get better and he disowned him. Nathan would have either picked up his stuff or have had his stuff sent to him (where ever he may have been staying at that time) and that would have included the bracelet. What does everyone think?
  21. Amen Sister!! The characters have to stop lying if they ever want to get healthy and get their happilly ever afters!!Â
  22. Hi EmVeeCrossfire, You make a good point. It is plausible that Christopher Jr. may also have been abused by Hugh. It wouldn't surprise me in the least. I could also see a scenario of Jr. walking in on Gideon being abused and him being so traumatized that he rebelled. I wonder if Elizabeth Vidal had Christopher Jr. examined as well.  I hope that these questions are answered with the next two books.  I don't know if Christopher Jr. lied or not, or whether Elizabeth Vidal lied or not. That entire situation is just one huge honking question!!  I was thinking about what some people in the forum have been saying about Dr. Lucas having not seen any physical signs of abuse on Gideon (when he examined him), but why would Dr. Lucas need to lie or "cover-up" any allegations of abuse if there were none? That doesn't make sense.  How can you cover up something that doesn't exist?  Dr. Lucas wouldn't have had to worry about his brother-in-law because he would have known that the allegations were false. He wouldn't have had to hide anything from his wife because there was nothing to hide. The would have been no signs of physical abuse afterall.  If Dr. Lucas neglected to inform the Medical Board about the alleged abuse, then yes he would face fines and penalties and a suspension of his medical license. If it went that far and the Medical Board got invovled, they would subpoena Dr. Lucas's medical files and Gideon's files as well. The chart would have clearly documented that no signs of abuse could be found.  Dr. Lucas  would have had a nurse there during the examination and she would have been able to testify to the fact that there weren't any signs of abuse.  I guess that what I am getting at is; if Dr. Lucas truely didn't find any signs of abuse then what is there to cover up?  Dr. Lucas could document his findings in Gideon's chart with confidence without worry of reprisal. There would be nothing to cover up. What do you think?
  23. Hi Jennpenn926, I don't know what the statistics are on abuse victims becoming pedophiles themselves. I wouldn't even want to hazard a guess. Given the circumsances that happened with my school; I don't think that any of the kids who were abused ever thought that what happened was normal.  Many of those who were abused, suffered greatly. Many had horrendous addictions to drugs and/or alcohol and weren't able to complete their schooling or maintain employment. To the best of knowledge, not one victim in my graduating class went on to abuse anyone else.  Thank you God for that.   The interesting part of this whole situation is the fact that none of the parents or staff thought it fit to call the police or Children's Aid/CPS. Everyone involved literally turned a blind eye to what was going on. Many people were reluctant to come forward and speak about what happened to them because they were afraid of the stigma attached to being an abuse survivor. Some people felt that it was best to leave well-enough alone or that it wasn't any of their business. So it was this silence that allowed one sick individual to wreak havoc on countless lives.Â
  24. You are right Sharon. At some point if Sylvia wants to answer all of the fans questions she may have to skip a few months in order to tie up all the storylines. I like the idea of a few months passing and Eva standing in front of the mirror looking at herself while wearing a wedding gown. The most important thing would be the marriage and not necessarily the planning. Â
  25.  Hi Claudine, OMW I so completely understand Longitudinal studies!!! I think I suffered some kind of eye damage from all the literature reviews I had to do for school!    I was completely shocked when I saw the studies between marijuana use and the triggering of mental illness! Think about the number of kids who use these drugs recreationally and have no idea that they could be causing severe future problems! It is scary to say the least! One mistake in childhood can have lasting effects.  Let me know how everything turns out! I will be really interested.Â
