At first when I read the description of Corinne and Elizabeth--I thought

"Are they related?"

Monica is driven by money but she is capable of love.   She didn't give up Eva and was disowned because of it.   Also, when Victor and Monica ran into each other at Eva's apartment, Eva knew instantly that they love each other.   She's just a very shallow person.

I wonder if Monica can become a less self-absorbed person?  What will it take to happen?

Favorite scene BTY page19: 

 

"When the car reached the lobby, I almost moaned in relief. I waited impatiently as the elevator emptied, and the first chance I got, I took a step forward. His hand settled firmly at the small of my back and he walked out beside me, steering me. The sensation of his touch on such a vulnerable place rippled through me."

 

I don't know why, but I love this scene.   LOL

One of the best lines in the chapter, possibly the whole book is,

"Why even call it a f**k? Why not be clear and call it a seminal emission in a pre-approved orifice? Classic.

One of the things I noticed. In the lift, after her lunch with Stanton, Gideon said to Eva , "no lies, Eva. Ever" He may not lie as such, but he is extremely economical with the truth.

"Extremely economical with the truth"-----what a great line!    LOL

Maybe it's Gideon Geoffrey but he doesn't use it for obvious reasons...

What I find sad, is that Eva doesn't seem to have had much contact with Victor in her early years. We re told that she went to SDSU and lived near here dad, and she saw him regularly. Her bad behaviour and issues prompted him to take her to see Dr. Travis.

 

On page 4 in BTU:

" My mother refused to marry him (Victor), but he'd never wavered from his determination to be my dad in every way possible."

 

I wonder what "every way possible" means?

I felt that Eva grew up in California and when Monica married Stanton, Monica moved to NYC?? I felt that Monica married Stanton around the time Eva was going to college? I 'm trying to find out in BTY why I felt that---LOL

Soon after this forum started buzzing about the fact Sylvia confirmed in an interview that Gideon did it, she popped into the discussion threads to tell us some important background stuff about Nathan, stuff I can pretty much sum up like this:

 

Had Nathan murdered Eva, he never would have stood trial. It's likely he would have been declared mentally incompetent and hospitalized in a locked psychiatric unit. And probably would have gotten out some day. Just like he did all those years ago after being locked up in a mental hospital because he raped Eva. He got out eventually -- even though he was still crazy and still very dangerous.

I agree!  I think that's what scared Gideon the most (if Nathan was arrested) and why he felt that he had to murder Nathan--

He would never again be a threat to Eva..

OK, informal poll here --- what's the best time for me to post a daily "Reader's Guide" to the chapter we're reading each day.

 

Should I post the guide for each chapter the same day we're all reading it -- (i.e. today is Chapter Two, so I post the Chapter Two guide today)?

 

OR

 

Should I wait until the day after? Post Chapter Two tomorrow, after we hopefully have all finished reading and have already moved onto Chapter Three?

 

If you want an example of what I'm talking about, go to page three of this discussion thread. That's where I posted the Chapter One guide yesterday. I did it around this time of the day. Was it OK to post it then, even though some people might be still re-reading? or should I have waited until today to post yesterday's "cheat sheet" of sorts.

Nathan was an obsessive sick man---I believe he didn't think rationally and is that stupid and would have gone back to Gideon for another round.

I don't think that this series is romanticizing murder...

In SD's book "Passion For The Game", the lead male character --Christopher-- kills someone...

When Gideon was in Eva's flat, on the Friday for dinner with Victor and Ireland, his phone kept going off. Are we to assume it was his security team or Angus keeping him up to date of events and advising him?
