Now, who wants to talk about how pathetic Magdalene is (on the female side) vs Trey (on the male side)?

Also another note about Corinne, if Gideon does indeed break up with her and she SNAPS maybe it is she that Eva will be using her newly honed Krav Maga skills on only time will tell LOL

Hi Sscrph,

Holy cow!  Now that would be a twist!!  My head is going to explode from all these potential theories!  How many more days until June 4th? Sigh! :)

Hi Gigi, I am kind of wondering if it is starting to matter to both of them because the last time she came over to the apartment in the nurse outfit Cary stated that she was really upset that she didn't know about his situation sooner and that someone at the agency had just told her about it...and then he states "it's like she read my mind" he is of course referring to the naughty nurse outfit , so I think these 2 are quite compatible!!

I Sscrph,

I think that Cary and Tatiana could be good together.  She seems to accept him for who he is.  She doesn't seem to judge him which is good for his spirit.  She did seem quite upset when she went to visit Cary at his apartment.

You were right, I think that those factors and all that good s**, could potentially make for a nice romance for Cary. He deserves someone good in his life! :)  Let's hope he finds it sooner rather than later. :)

Hi LNCronan,

Hold on a second here.  Corinne didn't quite crash the fundraiser.  She probably paid a lot of money to attend this charitable event.  She also has been a member in "high society" as well and as such could probably attend any charitable function on little or no notice.  The entire point of holding these events is to raise money and I am sure that Corinne did her part financially speaking.

Now you are correct in that Gideon didn't invite her or escort her to the event so in that sense maybe she crashed the event.  The rest of the evening I see as a woman's attempt at sizing up her competition.  If Corinne did come back to win Gideon, she did have a right to do so.  Gideon was married and as such was in a sense "fair game".  Is that a nice thing, no, absolutely not, but what is that saying..."all is fair in love and war...† Game on!

There's different ways to literally crash some sort of public event -- because there are different motives for doing so and different goals a crasher seeks to achieve. I'll use wedding crashing as the example here, because Corrine's underlying motive and desired outcome were the same.

One form of wedding crashing is where an ex-lover of the bride or groom shows up without warning. The motive is to grab the attention of the ex and especially to blindside the ex's fiancee/new spouse in public view of other people. The desired outcome is to somehow ruin the wedding day for the couple but most especially to ruin things for the person the crasher's ex-lover is marrying. (Or even in extreme cases to try to stop stop the ceremony itself before the couple is pronounced legally married.)

Corrine literally crashed that reception to blindside Gideon in public view of other people, most especially Eva. Corrine did it to grab Gideon's attention and to catch Eva totally off guard. Her primary goal was to hopefully ruin the evening for Gideon and Eva as a couple, but most especially ruin it for Eva. Which Corrine did in spectacular fashion. Mission accomplished.

This is different than crashing a fundraiser by sneaking in unpaid in order to eat/drink for free or for the thrill of mingling with prominent people. Yes, Corrine paid to be there and thus had every right to drink champagne, eat dinner and hang around with members of high society, some of whom (like Gideon) are actual celebrities.

Hi LNCronan,

Your theory assumes that Gideon wouldn’t have invited Corinne to this event.  Although he may not have been escorting her to the event, Gideon still considered her a friend and as such he may have made sure that Corinne’s name was always on the “invite†list.

I think that regardless of where Corinne was living she was probably still invited to many social functions in New York.  She was and is still a socialite and as such, she would have remained on the guest list.  She must also have been a generous contributor and again as such she would have been invited.

Now as for the Corinne crashing the party theory, Corinne may have gone to the event to see what was going on for herself.  It is one thing to hear about how someone feels about a person that he/she is dating, but it is another to see it for yourself.

I don’t think that Corinne attending this event was necessarily wrong; I think that how Gideon dealt with the situation of seeing Corinne at this event was ABSOLUTELY wrong!  Everyone keeps rushing to judgment about Corinne.  Has anyone stopped to look at what a shi**y job Gideon has done of dealing with Corinne?

Let’s also be clear that Corinne didn’t ruin the event for Eva, Eva ALLOWED Corinne’s actions to ruin the night for her.  There is a big difference there.  At the end of the day, each and every single one of us is responsible for our actions and that includes how we react to someone else.

No way in h*** did Gideon invite Corrine to that fundraiser. Eva didn't even know Corrine existed yet, because Gideon hadn't gotten around to talking about Corrine to Eva. (In fact, Gideon refused to talk about most of his past period -- gotta wonder how long he was planning to wait before he told Eva, "Oh by the way, seven years ago my first serious girlfriend broke off our engagement, married some other guy, who I knew, and moved overseas.)

Why the heck would he even allow insecure, jealous Eva to get blindsided by Corrine? Whenever Eva got insecure and or jealous, she'd react with her dysfunctional coping mechanism of running away. And Sylvia told us Eva's runners absolutely terrified Gideon.

Gideon hadn't even known yet on the night of that fundraiser Corrine had finally followed through on plans to leave France and return to New York for good (she'd been leaving him phone messages at home he'd never gotten). He was totally caught off guard when he spotted Corrine talking to Magdalene as he and Eva left the dance floor. Then he scrambled to try to conceal the real nature of his past with Corrine so that he could later talk to Eva in private. Which only ended up making matters worse, because his immediate attempt to hide it ratcheted Eva's anxiety level even higher.

Besides, people buy tickets to fundraisers, not get invited. It's a public event, not a private function. Corrine took advantage of the opportunity to show up at something where she simply could buy a ticket, not need an invite. The latter ran the risk of Gideon finding out via gossip ahead of time Corrine would be attending. Paying to get in guaranteed the element of surprise, especially if Corrine bought a ticket at the last minute.

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to toss out a quick question to everyone in the forum.  What does everyone think about Cary's relationship with Tatiana?  Is it good, bad, or it doesn't matter?

It's healthier than Cary's relationship with Trey. Tatiana accepts Cary as he is and is not making demands on Cary beyond their current status of friends with benefits.

Trey is hoping to change Cary's sexual orientation from bisexual to gay. Trey has got insecurity issues about Cary's sexual preferences including attraction to women. That unto itself is "bad"  but trying to get someone to suppress a natural part of an individual's sexuality is wrong.

I started listening to Bared on audiobook this past weekend while traveling, and I picked up on something about the advocacy dinner about Magdalene and Christopher Jr.

The story strongly suggests Magdalene showed up without a date, and judging by the way Christopher Jr. was hitting on Eva, it's safe to say me probably didn't have a date either. Plus, until the last minute (when he asked Eva to go with him) Gideon didn't have a date.

So .... did Magdalene go with Christopher under cover of family friends (just like Cary and Eva originally planned to go with Cary as friends.)

My guess is yes, because Magdalene probably knew Gideon decided well ahead of time to go stag because he was giving a keynote speech (and thus would be busy). Magdalene decided to show up in order to latch right onto Gideon. So what a nasty surprise for Magdalene to see Gideon arrive with Eva, whose existence Magdalene may have not known about before Gideon and Eva walked in the door together. It definitely was a nasty surprise, given the cat fight in the ladies room later, Magdalene guessed correctly Gideon had actually brought a woman he'd f****** as a date somewhere, breaking his own rule of automatically tossing onto the discard pile women he's slept with.

Hi LNCronan,

I think that Corinne’s name would probably have been added automatically and unless someone was specifically looking to make sure that she wasn’t on the guest list, then Gideon may have overlooked that small detail.  It is a thought and a theory.  This is a man who is busy running an empire and I am sure that he wouldn’t be checking each and every guest list of every event he sponsors etc.  He and Corinne are also friends and as such he probably wouldn’t have been expecting to see Corinne or that she didn’t express an interest to him about attending (in their daily phone calls-more apt her daily phone calls to him) that particular event.

I think that this was a situation that Gideon didn’t anticipate and as such wasn’t paying attention to that aspect.  I think that if Corinne had previously been invited to these events, her name would have been placed on future fundraiser invitation lists.  Corinne may have sent generous donations in lieu of her attendance.

I also just wanted to clarify that the “ultra wealthy†receive special invitations to attend charity fundraisers.  They absolutely do receive “invitationsâ€.  The people who organize these events absolutely want the elite at their fundraisers. The ultra elite bring in extra media attention; more corporate donations and they themselves come in with sizable (HUGE) donations as well.   Make no mistake about it, these individuals receive special invitations!   These individuals also receive special treatment.  If you keep the ultra wealthy guest happy then they are more inclined to give more sizable donations.

I do have to wonder how often Gideon called Corinne.  In Bared To You, Gideon let it slip that he and Corinne speak on a daily basis.  I have to wonder how much of that Gideon initiates or whether it is Corinne who always calls him

.

I also wanted to clarify that depending on the charity event, some tickets may be available but a good percentage of the seats would be by invitation only status.  These charities want the money and the connections for MORE MONEY.  The average Joe may not have these connections or the coffers to help a charity or foundation.

Hi LNCronan,

Is it possible that each person bought their ticket individually and then met up?  Magdalene would have a reason to buy a ticket if she knew that Gideon was going to be attending.  She probably knew several people at the event asides from Gideon so it wouldn’t be such an unusual thing for her to attend solo.

Christopher Jr. (the slime bucket that he is) is the brother of Gideon.  He is eligible and one of the higher ups with Vidal Records, so it wouldn’t be seen as unusual for him to attend an event without a “plus oneâ€.

Hey I just also thought of something; when do you think that Magdalene found out about Gideon and Eva?  Do you think that Gideon spilled the beans about his relationship with Eva or do you think that Magdalene got a rude awakening when she saw Gideon with Eva at the Advocacy Dinner?  What do you think?  What does everyone think?

I thought that it was Corrine who said that she talks to Gideon daily. And Gideon told Eva that "most times he is not available to talk."

How can you tell Corrine is trying to mess with Eva's mind by twisting the truth and even outright lying sometimes -- deliberately doing so in order to make Eva believe she and Gideon are close -- very close?

Answer: Corrine's lips are moving.

Corrine knows exactly what Eva's biggest vulnerabilities are: insecurity and jealousy.

  • Corrine started twisting things the night she met Eva, one of only two times the women spoke. The first time (night of the fundraiser) Corrine sweetly manipulated things -- after all, Gideon was in the room, though not at the table when Corrine got to talk to Eva.
  • The second time was the argument at the door to Corrine's apartment -- there, Corrine had the gloves off, because it was just her and Eva and Gideon had no idea Eva was there.

Hi Everyone,<br />I just looked up BTY on page 331, Gideon mentioned that he didn't often have time to speak with Corinne. What I wonder is just how often did Gideon speak with Corinne. I want to know just how far did Corinne stretch the truth (if you can even call it that)? I also wonder whether Gideon called Corinne. Was he inadvertently feeding into Corinne's delusion (false hope...sigh)?

My theories on the subject of Gideon/Corrine phone calls:

  • I firmly believe Corrine started calling him first. Who knows how long that went on -- maybe for weeks or even months before Gideon met Eva. At the time, Corrine still lived in France, but her marriage was falling apart. The calls would have started out as occasional, but as Corrine got Gideon to become a crutch, the frequency Corrine called increased.
  • Based on what Gideon later told Eva (saying it would be cruel for him to cut Corrine off when she's going through a rough time) I believe Corrine started emotionally leaning on Gideon, and the torch Corrine had been holding for years erupted back into flames. especially because they were talking again.
  • For a time, Gideon returned the calls regularly, both for friendship's sake and because underneath, he felt guilty knowing Corrine's marriage failed because she'd married Giroux on the rebound.
  • Corrine stepped up the frequency to daily, including calling Gideon's home and calling his cell phone during times she'd be likely to reach him -- nights and weekends.
  • By pure chance, she called his cell phone the Saturday night he was with Eva on their first date at the advocacy dinner. Gideon had met Eva only the week before, and Corrine may have already heard him mention Eva. When Gideon spoke with Corrine later that night, he might have said he was developing feelings for this new woman (Eva) he'd met at the Crossfire.
  • A couple of days later (Monday) Gideon and Eva officially became a full couple and he began spending all his free time with Eva. Thus he would have spoken with Corrine rarely, if at all, anymore. So he told Eva the truth when he made it plain to her he wasn't talking with Corrine regularly because he was busy -- busy with Eva.
  • The dramatic drop in getting Gideon on the phone coupled with online pictures of Gideon and Eva as a couple is what made Corrine decide to move back to New York and size up the competition.

Now here's something I wonder. Based on all the serious trouble Corrine's re-appearance caused between Eva and Gideon, did he in the ensuing weeks barely speak with Corrine? Not wean her off completely like Eva asked him to when they talked back at her place (after Eva left the dinner.) However, barely talking with Corrine, knowing he couldn't maintain any sort of friendship with Corrine, due to Eva's insecurity/jealousy problem?

Then .... a couple of weeks later when Gideon decided to use Corrine as his cover, Gideon would have needed to initiate calls to ask Corrine out. He had to have been the one making all the plans to get together, because he was staging photo opportunities and thus absolutely had to be certain she'd go to a particular place (restaurant, party) with him.

Once Corrine firmly became his cover story for the cops, had he started returning her phone calls every single day, and actually calling her daily as well? So that the cops looking at lists of phone numbers for incoming and outgoing calls to his various phones would see proof he and Corrine were talking daily, even several times daily, like one would expect for a newly-serious romantic couple?

Gideon never dared phone Eva period after she phoned his cell to break up with him. Detective Graves saw him devastated by that phone call, and a quick check of phone records would have revealed the incoming call to his cell that Saturday morning came from Eva's home land line. Beyond making sure the cops never could directly link another phone call between him and Eva, did Gideon as part of putting on his now-desperate act, give the cops something to see on his phone records -- lots of calls with Corrine in the past few weeks?

A few add-ons to my list of theories on the Gideon/Corrine phone calls

  • When the return phone calls from Gideon dropped off dramatically (because he was now spending all his free time with Eva) Corrine naturally would have concluded he was now having sex with Eva at the hotel.
  • But Corrine probably bet, at first, that Gideon still would have had his sexual hang-up about refusing to spend the whole night with any woman. It'd been the deal-breaker issue for the engagement years ago, and Corrine probably bet he hadn't changed.
  • So Corrine switched to calling Gideon's home number in the morning, before Gideon would be leaving for work. With the time difference between France and New York, it was plausible to get away with this: it'd already been lunchtime or later in France while Gideon would be getting ready for work.
  • When Corrine found it impossible to reach him even in the morning before work, she would have figured out Gideon was spending entire nights with Eva. Add that on top of Gideon telling Corrine that Eva was getting him to "open up" and Corrine would have freaked. How was it in the course of mere weeks, Eva got Gideon to spend the night, something Corrine failed to get him to do despite trying for three whole years.
  • That might have been the tipping point to make Corrine pull the trigger about leaving France for good.

I do think Corrine is conniving. I mean who meets a "good friend's" girlfriend for the first time and talks about how she talks to her boyfriend on a daily basis. And then goes on to say how leaving him was the biggest mistake of her life. All of this right after her good friend Gideon told her about Eva's jealousy. She had the claws out right away!

Oh I'm sure Corrine heard all about what Magdalene saw in the library -- heard it the night Corrine crashed that fundraiser.

Remember, while Gideon and Eva were still out on the dance floor, before they were even aware Corrine was in the room, Corrine was standing talking with Magdalene. Plus  Magdalene spent dinner itself sitting at the next table actively eavesdropping on Corrine monopolizing Gideon's attention.

Magdalene was in a miserable mood that Corrine showed up, and so Magdalene did all sorts to tattling to Eva on the spot that night as well as picking up the phone to call Eva at work the next morning.

It only makes sense that while Gideon and Eva were out on the dance floor (before they both spotted Corrine) and Magdalene was already being catty to Corrine, telling Corrine all sorts of things she (Magdalene) observed the two times Magdalene has been at the same place Gideon and Eva were as a couple: that garden party at the Vidals, and Gideon/Eva's first date the night of the advocacy dinner.
