  1. Hi GLH,

I agree with you about Anne.  I thought about how Gideon described his sexual interactions with Anne and I was sickened by his descriptions.  It painted a picture of a woman who was so pathetically desperate and single-mindedly driven to have the sexual experience.

I would think that most women would give a man a pass if he was not able to sustain an erecti*n.  Kind words might be exchanged (between the two parties) and the encounter would end, but that's not what was decribed.  The entire scenario was just Sick.

I got the impression he too was sickened by what he did, but guess he couldn't help himself due to the resemblance to Hugh. But did Anne initiate what happened, were those kinky ideas already in Gideon's head or was it just the Hugh factor that made him treat Anne like that (bearing in mind she came back for more I suspect she may have set things off initially - possibly as therapy for the hidden anger she sensed in Gideon? And he obviously did manage to sustain the erecti*n if her comment to him is to be believed he pounded her for hours.

And back to Deanna, she seems to have the same tastes as Anne, is she one of the two women Anne (at that time the unknown redhead) mentioned in Entwined "I know of two women who've experienced severe depression over him" - Is Anne not only Corinne's therapist, but also Deanna's?

  2. Henry Cavill - I'm not a big fan of his probably because I haven't really followed his career nor seen him in many things. Someone on Sylvia's Facebook page has said that he shouldn't play Gideon as, like Matt Bomer, he is gay.

    (a) I didn't think he was.

( B) why should someone who is gay not play this part - if they can act and fit the character's description surely that is all that matters.

  3. I noticed yesterday (after listening to CBY) Eva was under Gideon's desk giving him a BJ when he was meeting with his technical team.  Gideon was angry because Lancorp stole his top tech.  Eva heard the whole conversation and said "Uh oh" when Gideon reprimanded the group.  How is it she didn't say anything to Gideon later when her boss was "requested" to head the LanCorp project.  Up to this point we hear that Eva is a good researcher for Mark.  How is it she didn't put together how big a competitor LanCorp is to Crossfire?  I get that the fight was the trigger that moved Gideon forward with his therapy but this is the first time Eva really p1sses me off.

Thanks ladies, spotted this in my re-read, shows that with a series of books as complex as this we need to read more than once. My first read was rather fast, I took a lot in but not all of it.

My only thought is even though the heard that conversation, with so much going on afterwards (Gideon continued with the s*x and then off to San Diego and a busy weekend there) this may have slipped her mind - we heard that scene from Gideon rather than Eva. I'm trying my best not to dislike Eva over how she treats Gideon in chapter 19 and how long it takes her to respond to him in chapter 20 - let's hope when OWY opens they are pretty much together and spend the rest of the book as a team fighting Brett and the mass of Gideon's enemies.

Apart from the Jax and Gia books I've not read any series by Sylvia, does she usually write an Epilogue so we learn about the future?

  4. I understand why everyone is ripping on Eva for walking away twords the end

BUT.. The second read makes it much clearer. She had to devastate Gideon for him to want to change..

it worked, so Im good now

I'm coming to the same conclusion, highlighted a sentence during my re-read from the Monday morning after they had taken Ireland back to the Vidal place and before Eva told Mark they were to meet with LanCorp. She mentions how much they had on their plate that weekend, Gideon hadn't slept Saturday night* and how he did not see in himself what she saw. She goes on "He'd saved me, in so many ways. I was going to do whatever needed to be done to save him, too."

*And how does Gideon do it, he functions on very little sleep, when he is in bed not sleeping he is mostly extremely active, he's running a massive company. Most guys who didn't sleep would probably keep 'it' up for 5 minutes and then collapse exhausted and certainly not be able to think clearly enough to run a company.

I'm also not convinced we have seen the last of Brett - when Chris snr speaks to Gideon in the penthouse about the re-make of the video Gideon thinks to himself "Apparently, Brett Kline had some serious feelings for Eve after all, I wasn't okay with that. Not even close" Does this signify the possibility of more action with Kline in OWY?

  5. In the scene where Eva runs into Shelley Graves at the gym and Shelley asks if she is invited to the wedding, Eva responds that she can come to the reception:

"We're keeping the wedding small, just family" "Really, didn't expect that", Something like a smile transformed her thin face. "He's full of surprises, isn't he." I couldn't begin to decipher what she meant.

Is this perhaps a reference to Shelley being aware Gideon is estranged from some of his family or could there be a deeper meaning?

  6. Re Eva not telling Gideon about the Landon project - she had no reason to until he told her that Landon was 'out to get him' - up to then it was just another client. He has told her that he can be a target but looks like that really has not sunk in - but can you blame her, so much has happened for her in so little time. Her mind is on helping Cary, putting her mother in her place and sorting out a wedding, and her biggest hurdle is getting Gideon to talk about his past. Gideon was always convinced she would leave when he finally told all which is now showing in his nightmares. I too believe when he told her in the past he did not remember what he had dreamt, that was truly the case, a lot of dreams/nightmares are not recalled once we wake and I'm pretty sure one of the longer term members of this forum had looked into Gideon's nightmare problem and read that things are not recalled. They are very mixed up nightmares, some truth, some imaginary events but scary as when you wake and remember what you dreamt.

Hopefully book 5 has GidEva forming a strong bond from the outset, and assuming it will only cover a short time period again, that all those women crawl right out of the woodwork and fail in their attempts to hurt the two of them. I know we're also wondering about Cary/Tatiana/Trey, Victor and Monica, Chris and Liz, but those situations will hopefully dealt with as quickly as the bracelet/Nathan and Megumi scenarios and that the detail is given over to Anne, Corrine, Christopher and Gideon's mother.

  7. .

I disagree, Eva left because she felt betrayed  and she did not run. She asked Gideon for a space , to think things before she say anything damaging . I did understand this .. when I read about Gideon offering Mark a job behind Evas' back , I was 100% sure it would be  the  culprit  of their biggest fight because its important to Eva  to be asked and  not kept in the dark specially if it involved her or her freedom to say "NO" or "YES" .  This was Gideon failure , to be able to communicate to her . His need to control the outcome thinking about  her safety and happiness was kind of his weakness.

I dislike Eva thinking she cant forgive Gideon about this because that was only minor problem compared to the rest of what they have encountered. Her stubbornest and resistance to what comes along  being a wife of a wealthiest man is kind of frustrating. She can use it in her advantage that wouldn't appear her to be a trophy wife and like her mother. Gideon has been supportive of her and open for her to grow as a career woman.

Oh my God, I really wish we know where is book  5 coming out.

Plus Eva had her period and we know from comments in Reflected that she gets tired and cranky around that time. In CBY she doesn't say if the period began prior to her leaving or if it was about to begin, because of the s**ual activity taking place before her leaving it probably began while she was with Cary at her mother's and could explain why she took Gideon's actions over Mark in such a harsh way. That said, Gideon needed something to happen to make him open up more, particularly with Dr Peterson. Wonder if he told Dr P more about his other women?

  8. I reread the part in Bared to You where Eva met Corrine and the part in Reflected in You where she got a call from Maggie the next day and some things jumped out that made me connect some dots about Corrine's tell-all book. That night Corrine was playing "remember when" reminding Gideon of places they used to go many years ago. Maybe her book is supposed to be more of this ploy because she can include pictures of them together at places.

There was something weird in the part when Corrine was stroking her neck when telling Eva how intense Gideon used to be scared her. Eva thought Corrine touching her neck was unconsciously remembering a necklace she wore. What if it was something else, like a collar? I can't see Gideon tying her up but I can see him experimenting with something like trying a collar when he was exploring being a dom during sex. I have a theory the sex started out vanilla but slowly changed when it wasn't enough for him. Maybe Corrine forcing him to get engaged made him feel he was losing control of life and it triggered him sexually. When he talked to Eva about the engagement he blame the break-up on sex but thought the problem was the hotel and he wouldn't stay the whole night. What if the real sex problem for Corrine was at some point they passed her comfort level or at least she felt she couldn't keep him satisfied.

If not a collar then possibly held her by the throat? It does look as if Gideon has been violent in some way in the past, he intimated that he had been worse with Anne due to the Hugh resemblance, but perhaps those comments about using his money was buying women off not to talk about what he did with them. Up to the start of this book we only had Eva's thoughts and things Gideon revealed to her to go on, and we know he had not opened up to her about his full past. She's worked out that he has experience of a sex swing so there must be more. Anne intimates that he flogged her into a frenzy - he must have had the tools available for that. She also says he was at her for hours so he did eventually 'get it up' with her. His response to Anne was that hundreds of women know him that way although his thoughts go on to say he had been particularly depraved with her due to Hugh.

Is it possible when he first had s** with Eva in the limousine, the big surprise to him was that he was able to function without any form of violence?

  9. Christine asks her if Gideon chose Waters Field & Leaman for the Kingsman Vodka campaign because of his relationship with Eva, that works there. Christine thinks GidEva already had a relationship at that moment, becuse the Kingsman campaign had only been 3 months before and usually people date for more than 3 months before they get engaged, so, if they got engaged now, it would mean that they had been together for a long time.

The point is, Eva and Gideon weren't at a relationship at that point, in fact, they had jus met for the first time. So Eva winces thinking: everybody is going to assume we've been together for a long time, but that's not the truth, so if I tell her I wasn't even in a relationship with him at the time of the Kingsman Vodka campaign, she's going to know we've been together for less than 3 months, and everyone is going to start speculating about it, like is there a baby on the way? isn't it too soon? is the relationship serious? etc.

Yes, remember the scene takes place before the phone call from Monica where Eva learns that her engagement is public knowledge and that there is a baby bump speculation already out there.

  10. when and where in the book did Gideon overhear Liz and Chris discussing one night at the dinner table? I must have really skimmed thru that.

Question: If Eva was Mark's assistant, and Mark leaves; why would Eva lose her job? Couldn't she be an assistant to the person that replaces Mark? Now that she realizes that she can't work on the Lancorp project because of a conflict of interest, wonder what she can do now.. ? She can be an assistant to another person in the office.

The discussion between Liz and Chris is at chapter 9 UK paperback top of page 150, kindle location 2142 (my iPad and iPhone say page 149 of 357 but that may not be the same on other Kindles).

I did wonder about Eva losing her job, all I can see in Bared to You is that she started at an entry-level position, and Mark is a junior account manager and Eva is his first assistant. Not sure what an entry-level position in the US constitutes, or if it means that if your boss goes, you go.

  11. Looking at my UK book cover it's jewellery, three rows of what are presumably clear diamonds and an outer row of a darker colour, the length seems to indicate it's a necklace. The only mention of a necklace is Monica with a Cartier Trinity necklace but googling does not show anything like the cover necklace. Doubt anything to do with Monica would feature on the cover anyway.

I've searched the e-book for jewellery (necklace, bracelet, diamond) and nothing appears.

  12. In an earlier post I said this:

"Definitely more to come from Corrine, she's kind of got Arnoldo on her side at the moment, and as someone else has said, I think Anne is her therapist and using her to help get back at Gideon. I also wonder if Anne realises Gideon had connected her with Hugh and how she will take that news when, hopefully, he tells her."

Just found something Gideon says to Anne - wonder if this confirms Anne does not know that Hugh abused Gideon and that part of how Gideon treated her was not his usual sexual practice but more revenge on Hugh "The only thing memorable about you is your husband and how it eats at him that I've had you."

  13. Definitely more to come from Corrine, she's kind of got Arnoldo on her side at the moment, and as someone else has said, I think Anne is her therapist and using her to help get back at Gideon. I also wonder if Anne realises Gideon had connected her with Hugh and how she will take that news when, hopefully, he tells her.

In conversation with Cary Eva says "We can write a manual on How to Lose a Guy in 10 Weeks" so I assume that is the time period the four books have covered so far.

As to babies, Eva does say to herself (after hearing they have landed the PhazeOne campaign) 'between Mark's excitement, the imminent adjustment in my work situation, starting my period' so unless book 5 covers a bigger timescale than the previous books there's no baby in the near future (for which I am glad, this is a couple who need time on their own once their problems are resolved).

Raul and Angus are very dedicated to their jobs, both seem to be available at a moment's notice any time day or night.

Eva's reason for leaving him for me did seem a bit petty, particularly after the swing scene where she had coped well with being restrained because she trusted him, in his nightmares he is now more or less in the position Eva was when he 'left her' in Reflected, he thinks she can't take any more of his past even though she made it clear it was that he had not communicated with her.

The women we know he has been involved with in the past are all 'nutters' and although I can't recall what I read that made me think it, it came to mind that perhaps of the women who came on to him, he deliberately selected those who presented a challenge to fulfil the need to be in control. Has he perhaps had to pay one or two off to keep their mouths shut, hence the comments from Lucas and Deanna about throwing his money about?

  14. Was the correct c*** word picked out there?

In Bared to you Eva says something about HIS beautiful (but not big) c***. No mention of her c*** being big (tight is used most.

In Reflected in you HIS is mentioned 3 times, but only once with the word big but again her c*** is not mentioned as being big or beautiful

Entwined does not have the words beautiful c*** (his) mentioned, nor just with the word big.

Captivated Eva mentions he has a huge c*** - he responds it's not huge. Twice the phrase big c*** is mentioned by Eva thinking about Gideon.

Maybe she's taken to using the phrase just once in a series rather than in each book within the series?

The female c word can cause offence to some, but men do tend to use the word to mean female private parts and indeed in the past the word was actually a word of praise derived from the name of queens, not a derogatory term at all.

  15. I'm reading the reviews on Amazon.co.uk - very mixed. Still moaning about the series originally being a trilogy and it amazes me some readers didn't realise that it had extended to 5 books, even though at the end of Entwined that was explained (I guess once some people reach the last page of the story they go no further). Personally I am very happy that there are 5 books, even though some are seeing CBY as a filler and saying there is no action, I thought there was plenty of things going on (won't mention any here to respect those who have not yet read)and some reviewers seem to have completely missed the fact that we needed to know what is in Gideon's mind to enable us to understand things from the previous books which we have so far only seen with Eva's mind.

Complaints about the amount of s e x but as has been mentioned a successful s e x life is important to abuse sufferers. Sylvia is very descriptive of what they actually do and I guess some would think we only need an allusion to what they are doing - but from the first three books we get to know how Eva feels about the s e x they are having and now we know how Gideon feels as well - we get to see that when he is controlling he is not just using her for gratification, he understands her past can affect what they do. There's more I want to say but it would be a spoiler so I'll end there for the time being.

I suspect that a lot of the reviewers are the same ones who moaned about Entwined with You - they are seeing the books as fillers - well I guess they are fillers in one way but they move the story along and I expect some parts of the last book will be pretty explosive. Can't wait.

  16. Is there a new publisher? The page in CBY announcing the new book still says Penguin. I doubt there will be a long gap as I understood 4 and 5 were being written pretty much together, that the gap between would not be too long - and on Good Reads in answer to a question a six month gap was mentioned (although we can't, of course, assume that is a definite time).

  17. I'm re-reading to ensure I've taken in the full storyline and won't put any real spoilers on here yet.

Love Angus. Dislike Brett and Corinne and definitely Anne Lucas, odd that Chris Vidal knew nothing about the abuse, particularly as Gideon thought he did (and then seemingly has a hard time taking in that Chris knew nothing - I'm assuming that from his reaction to Chris). At times during the read I was so happy for them, then sad, then completely down but raised back up slightly towards the end.

On Goodreads Sylvia reckoned a gap of six months between books, hope we don't really have to wait that long.
