  1. What will it take for her to see the truth then?

Her son broken. The only person Gideon feels he can be himself in front of is Eva. Gideon told his mother what was happening to him when he was younger and she didn't believe him. Since that time he has never let her see the real him again. shame.

  2. I made a comment earlier about the confrontation near the end of EWY between Eva and Lizzie about the ring and I thoight that happened because Luzzie thought Gideon took the ring for Corinne and she was surprised when Eva showed up with it. This was after the hospital as someone pointed out. I still maintain that Gideon asked mom for the ring when everyone thought Gideon and Corinne were an item. Lizzie called Gideon from the hospital and even JFG complained that you would think Gideonwas the hubby. Lizzie still thought thee was hope for Gideon and Corinne, not realizing or wanting to realize how 'together' GidEva were. That is why she went off on Eva at the dinner when she saw Eva with 'her' ring. I am not sure of the comment about you are not taking him away from me. Would not think Lizzie had much control over Gideon. Has me puzzled???

I had said months ago that there was a possibility that Gideon tracked down that ring since in all likelihood with the money that Geoffrey had scammed from people most of their stuff would have been seized and sold at public auction to recoup losses. I am not sure what type of relationship Lizzie thinks she has with Gideon, but clearly the woman is delusional.

  3. I agree Kirsten.

Although we're told there's a HEA, it's going to be one helluva journey for them. And us. I don't think heart break will be sufficient to label it. :(

You know most of RIY was difficult for me to get through. I couldn't understand what Gideon was doing and my heart broke for the both of them over and over. I imagine this reading the same. :(

  4. I was shocked when Eva and Gideon got married in Entwined in You. Was anyone else?

I knew there were five books in the series by the time I finished Bared to You so I knew ETW would not be the final book. This is my first Sylvia Day series so are these types of surprises normal?

Hi Betty. I was a bit surprised they got married in EWY. I thought for sure we would have to wait until book 5. I think the reason why it was done is because it not keeps them bound together regardless of what happens in this next book, and I am anticipating this next book to be pretty heartbreaking. No doubt Gideva love each other, but sometimes life becomes overwhelming and you want to just give up. This ensures that they don't.

  5. This is actually for all the Ponzi schemer questions.   First this is handled by the FBI.   It also depends on the monies involved and such.   Madoff got 150, others have gotten 20 or 40 - all depending on the monies involved.

Ponzi schemers are too selfish to kill themselves but we also have to understand this book is not real life.   I've always had in the back of my mind that he was murdered but we will soon find out.  Hopefully sooner than later.

I agree that I've always had a wee bit of a suspicion that he was murdered too Donnad.

It also goes by people involved in the scheme Julie. Every person adds on another count.

  6. First I want to say that I am not giving up hope of this book being out by the end of the year. I have spoken with SD regarding this and her goal was always to have CBY out by the end of the year. If this book is not out by then it is on Penguin and not her.

Second the only person who could have initiated Gideon changing his last name really would have been Lizzie. As Gideon's only living parent and because of his age Lizzie would have had to initiate a name change. Chris wouldn't have needed to agree to it. She could have picked any sort of name for him and as long as the fees were paid and it wasn't offensive it would have been approved. I'm not sure that Gideon changing his name would have made a bit of difference at the time. I am sure Geoffrey's name was splashed everywhere so no doubt people knew he had a wife and a child and Geoffrey screwed people that were in his social circle so there was certainly no escaping that. Yes years down the line Gideon having a different last name would have been probably helpful, but at that point Gideon could have refused the name change even if Lizzie and Chris were all for it.

The same holds true for Chris adopting Gideon. When Lizzie and Chris Sr. married he certainly could have filed the paperwork to adopt Gideon and it would have been approved 1-2-3. That gets tricky with a say 12 year old Gideon because at that point a judge is going to heavily weigh what Gideon wants.

  7. hi Sharon

In the UK prisoners get parole after doing two thirds of their sentence, Geoffrey could have been out by the time Gideon was say 18? If the same applied in the USA .

Was the humiliation and ruination to much for Geoffrey? I think Lizzy knows. Why did she marry so quickly after his death, was she having an affair with Vidal?

Julie,  There isn't a rule regarding 2/3 of the sentence served as far as I know but every state is different. (It is a shame LN isn't here she could let us know about the NY laws for this type case.) Some people get out after serving as little as a year to 18 months.  I think it depends on the sentencing guidelines. I know sentencing guidelines seem to be lenient for white collar criminals. Regardless I agree if Geoffrey went to jail he would have been out and still have skills and time to start over.

Since he committed suicide it seems he couldn't deal with the humiliation and negative publicity. He would lose most of his wealth as part of his sentence and Liz would most likely divorce him.  Gideon commented on the fighting I don't see her sticking around while Geoffry rebuilds his life.

My guess is Liz remarried so quickly to change her name and escape some of the negative publicity.  I don't know if she was having an affair but I'm sure she knew Vidal and he married her to help insulate her from the publicity.  Everything I've read about Vidal Sr. makes me think he is a good guy but a little spineless.

Hi ladies. I have always looked at Geoffrey Cross' character as being loosely based on Bernie Madoff. Now Ponzi schemes normally fall under the Federal Government jurisdiction so that is the same state to state. Now Bernie was sentenced to 150 years for his crimes. Even with time off for good behavior he would have never taken a breath of fresh air as a free man again.

As far as Vidal Sr. I go back and forth. I really had assumed that he and Lizzie were having an affair while Geoffrey was alive. My opinion changed on that front a bit with EWY. I walked away from that book thinking much like Sharon he's a decent guy, but spineless.

  8. Hi Sscrph,

I think that Gideon may be afraid of Eva seeing the very real and very vulnerable Gideon.  Thus far, he has always been her rock and has always come running after her.  Eva never really got a chance to see just how vulnerable and deeply hurt Gideon has been.

I keep coming back to the references of when Eva wrote Gideon the letter during their separation during the second book.  She poured her heart to him and he didn't seem to respond, or didn't respond in the way that Eva thought that he would.  She could never really be sure where Gideon was coming from.  She couldn't see past her pain, to see Gideon's very real pain.

Sylvia said that the next two books are going to be about Gideon and him dealing with his problems.  That may be a very new place for Eva to be in.  She is very insecure, and that insecurity may wreak havoc every time Gideon has to deal with problems from his past.  Eva will have to set aside her insecurities and focus all of her attention on Gideon, in order to help him.

Now that being said, I could be wrong and quite frankly who knows?  Only Syliva and thus far she isn't telling.  What does everyone think? :)

I agree GiGI. These are Gideon's books and Eva is insecure. Not as insecure as she once was, but him closing himself off will trigger many things for Eva, she has to be strong enough to overcome that on focus on what he needs to get him healthy. It's certainly going to be a bumpy ride, but in the end they will both be much better off for having taken the journey.

  9. Good evening,

Let me begin by saying that I do not mean to offend anyone and this is my opinion only. We come up with all kinds of theories and anything can happen. (No one expected the Russian mafia twist or the bracelet alibi.)  In no way do I mean to disparage anyone’s opinion by stating mine.

I have to address this theory.

I did a paper for school on sexual abuse and have a lot of research.  One of the reasons so many men do not come forward and report and deal with their abuse is for this reason.  There are a large number of people who think men who are abused will abuse in the future.  That is just not true.  The reverse is rarely considered.  By that I mean women are rarely labeled as potential abusers because they were abused.  Men fear that admitting abuse will make people look at them differently and people will constantly be waiting for them to abuse another child.

There are more than 138 million men in the U.S  As Sylvia documented in her book one in 6 boys are abused that would mean approximately 23 million men are potential abusers.  What a shame that as a society we continue to abuse these men by continuing to posit this theory.  It is true that many abusers were abused but the majority of abused boys do not abuse others. Sylvia said she did a lot of research for this book and she would know this myth is false.  It is documented in all the major psychology magazines.

Regarding the Crossfire series and Gideon Cross in particular, I would never recommend these books in the future if Sylvia made the decision to have Gideon be an abusive murderer.  It doesn’t fit with the person in my mind.

There are many reasons why Christopher doesn’t like Gideon, jealousy being the first one that comes to my mind.  I know families where siblings have issues with one or another and I don’t know any who abused the other.  I firmly believe that Christopher is angry with himself because he saw the abuse and didn’t confirm Gideon’s accusations.

Another reason could be he blames Gideon because Hugh turned to Christopher after Gideon left.  Abusers have a type and if Gideon left home in 5 or 6 years then Christopher would be Hugh’s type.  How could Christopher report his abuse when he denied that Hugh was an abuser?

I won’t even consider this scenario until I read it.

Thank you Sharon and I agree. In turn that would also mean that Eva could abuse another. I just can't see all of that. Of course I maybe wrong but I can't even allow my mind to go there at this point.

  10. Thank Kirsten for this, well said, I hope he does trust her, he has always said he trusts her with his life and she completes him so I am hoping he will let her in bit by bit but it will be hard for Eva as she will want to know more but he can only go at the pace he is happy with.

I long for them to have their HEA as well

It's so difficult to be a survivor of any sort of sexual abuse. Gideon is in a place where he thinks he played a role in this, that on some level he wanted this. He didn't want that. He was a child for goodness sakes. I do believe he trusts Eva, but at the same time he is ashamed of what happened and he has done everything in his power to bury it. He has a long hard road ahead of him.

  11. Kristen,  So true.  I've missed talking to you but I have read many of the books you suggested.  I was hoping everyone would return as soon as Sylvia posted something.  I love the insight, debates and all round  fun banter.

BTW I see there will be another Book Bash in Orlando next year.  They posted that the tickets will go on sale in January.  I set a reminder so I can get in.  They are sure it will be a sell out again.

I have been so swamped with work, but couldn't resist this morning when I had a free moment coming onto the site. Of course Sylvia had posted a few minutes before so I was thrilled. :)

Book Bash will be held again next year. There has been talk of having it be a two day event and all of last years authors have been invited back. I am hoping Sylvia will be there again. I will let you know when I hear about tickets going on sale. It is supposed to be January, with the event being held at the same hotel the last weekend of June.

Lastly, I hope you have enjoyed my book selections Sharon. Most of the authors I read are indie or start out that way at least.

  12. It is funny you said this because several people I talked to feel the same way.

As I read through it again I'm wondering if Gideon is closing himself off, like going to California and not telling Eva, and she called him on it.  Maybe the confrontation is at Dr. Petersen's office and Gideon does a duck and hide maneuver resulting in Eva telling him something like "It is time for you to talk."  You know Gideon is going to fight her until she brings him through to the other side. He won't give her up but it is probably a difficult journey with terrible nightmares and confrontations.

I think you are right with the closing himself off and just handling things without even talking to Eva. She takes that as him shutting her out and she has trust issues.
