  1. I agree that even if Gideon were not in the picture, Eva still would not be with Brett. She knows herself that a relationship between them would be a bad idea for a number of reasons, mainly...

    1. Her jealousy and insecurity could not handle dating someone with that kind of lifestyle.

    2. A fear of regressing to her old ways. Eva does not like the person she was when she was with Brett 4 years ago. She has no desire to ever be that person again.

One thing I think people keep forgetting though is that Gideon & Eva were not married when she agreed to meet up with Brett in SD. The only contact she has had with Brett since marrying Gideon is sending him a smiley face text message - which was a way for her to keep her promise to him (that she would make contact and not always wait for him to initiate) without actually calling him up or having any real contact.

I definitely think she will meet Brett alone in SD. They need to talk about the sex tape face-to-face so that they can both gauge each others honest reactions about the situation. I also think they need to meet one more time now that Eva can finally be totally honest with Brett and make it quite clear just how serious she and Gideon are.

I get why people are mad at Eva for her interaction with Brett in this book, and to be honest the thoughts of how sexy he was ###### me off too. But, we need to remember:

The first time Brett & Eva had a proper conversation (when she took him to lunch)- she was unsure of Gideon, he had taken Corinne to dinner the night before, he wouldnt talk to her - but she still Brett she was in love with Gideon.

The next time the talk on the phone - she says she'll only go to the Golden event id he is ok with them being friends. She even goes so far as to say she doesn't want to lead him on (ie nothing will happen between them, she's not interested)

The Golden event - this is the first time Gideon & Eva are seen back in public together. In fact publicly its supposed to be the night they reconcile. Therefore Eva tells Brett that she loves Gideon and is giving him another chance, but there is only so much she can say, she has to be cautious of anyone finding out they've been together for a while

Does anyone get where I'm coming from?

Re-reading Chapter 4 last night I do get where you are coming from Rogue. I actually saw things from a different perspective when re-reading this time around. In my heart of hearts I do believe that Gideon is it for Eva. She is not going to jeopardize her relationship with Gideon for Brett. I don't get her wanting to be friends with him, because they have go ne so many years since she pulled a runner with him. I do get that they have unresolved issues, and I want them squared away immediately so that she can put that behind her.

  2.

A couple of things that I've been wondering:
If you are pregnant don't you have to stop taking anti depressants? I'm not sure what her deal was either knowing or not, wanting to get rid of the baby or try tricking Gideon into thinking it was his. No wonder she left France so quickly before she got further along. I'm just confused by wtf she was thinking and if she knew or not. I was also SO relieved to find out that it wasn't Gideon's baby. I am so glad that even with Corrine's advances and Gideon spending so much time with her that they didn't end up in bed together.

Who was in charge of the video? I think that I am even more suspicious of Chris JR because the video played out like the sex tape. Hmm. Makes me wonder. Something shady is going on at Vidal Records. Did Brett seen the video before it was made public? I know that Chris JR has always been jealous of Gideon -maybe this was his way to try and mess things up for Gideon? When Eva asked Gideon not to watch the tape I just felt for her so much.
With Eva newly married and still thinking of Brett sexually, WTF! I really think that there's going to be some major drama in San Diego. I don't think that Eva will cheat, but she sure gets in compromising situations where Brett is concerned.

I like that now that Gideon is confiding more in Eva with most of his back story/history. Some of it wasn't as complicated as I thought it would be, ###### I was over thinking some of the reasons why. I was however heartbroken when I read the part where Eva finds out about the text. I know relationships like this are new to Gideon, but I hope for the best.

Cary has to be the best friend ever! I have always liked Trey for him. It sucks that the chick has him for 18 years.

Monica and Victor, oh my! I loved Eva's response to her dad about being with her mom. Can't wait to find out what is keeping Monica with Stanton.
Maybe Elizabeth is just ###### cause Eva is back in Gideon's life and she's feeling like an outsider. It didn't help matters at all by her reaction to the ring.

BTW Chapter 9 of EWY was a favorite of mine as was Chapter 10 of RIY!!! Oh and the people that are ###### about there being 5 books instead of the trilogy annoy me! If you were a real fan you would want more. I can't go on Amazon it just irks me seeing how people are reviewing the book!

    Jessica :)

    Hi Jessica,

I'm going to defer the first question to golfergirl because she's an obgyn. I believe that you do have to wean yourself off of the anti-depressants, but I'm not positive so she will answer when she sees the post I'm sure. As for Corrine, I'm not sure she was thinking straight. I'm torn with her. Her actions since arriving in NY have been horrible. But if you truly love someone or believe that you do, I think you will do just about anything to have them in your life so I can't say that I blame Corrine for any of her actions. I don't like her as a person, but I can see why she has done certain things. Having said all that, she is obviously obsessed with Gideon and needs intense therapy, especially after this suicide attempt.

I have to think that Six Ninths reviewed the video, as did CV Jr.. He knew what was on there, and he let it play out.

I can't allow myself to believe that Eva will cross a line with Brett. She has done it once before and it devastated Gideon, and it was a hard thing for her to even swallow after the fact. I love Eva because she's a kick Arse heroine, but when she kissed Brett I lost it. I can let it go once, but twice, after a man has killed for you, and you've married him, nope can't do it. Sylvia has said in several interviews that Eva is now strong and is going to be working on getting Gideon to a place of healing, so I can't imagine that includes her cheating on him, or even coming close.

As far as Tat-Trey-Cary goes, Tat is up to no good. I'm not sure she is pregnant let alone it is Cary's baby. Plus she won't take the pill because it makes her eat, wait till she sees what pregnancy will do to her body. I love Trey and I want Cary to come to the realization that he can find happiness. I think he is afraid to love someone because then he opens himself up to be hurt. He was destroyed by his mother. If someone who is supposed to unconditionally love you doesn't how can you expect anyone else to?

People are reviewing based on their annoyance that this book was hugely delayed, that it is no longer a trilogy and that many people had their hands on copies of the book before it was supposed to be out. None of this belongs in a review. A review should be based on the story you read, not your feelings about the author. It's so silly. If you have a problem with when this book came out contact the publisher. It irks me because I feel badly for Sylvia. She is always very fan friendly, and she has taken a ton of abuse from this one, and of course it upsets her. Hopefully she is getting a warm welcome from out Aussie friends. :)

I am assuming that is what she thought if he had asked her for it. I am leaning towards the theory of the ring being sold to pay off the debts that were incurred with the Ponzi scheme and Gideon going back and buying the ring from it's owner.

I'm still wondering about this, Elizabeth definitely seemed shocked to see "her ring" on Eva's finger. So either Elizabeth didn't know Gideon had the ring and was perplexed to see it. Or he asked Elizabeth for it and she assumed that he would be asking Corinne to marry him.  I was also astounded when Elizabeth told  Ava  " I won't let you take him away from me".  Really, is she crazy too (like Corinne)? She doesn't seem to have much of a relationship with Gideon, they certainly are not close. I'm just really confused by her behavior, what do you all think?

I am also confused by Elizabeth. I have been confused by her since the freakin garden party. Between the way she went on about Eva's blonde hair and then her and Gideon with their exchange about Cary, I just don't know. I don't think they are close, but I feel like we don't know enough about Gideon for me to make these assumptions. Hopefully in book 4 and 5 we will learn much, much more.

  4. Hi Kirsten ,Nathalia and Gigi

Kirsten when you said Eva is subconsciously punishing Gideon ,that was a light bulb moment for me it helps put some of her behavior in perspective .It helps to see that the thoughts , feelings she has for Brett and her sending him mixed messages are not just for the sake of Brett but are due in part to a crack in her and Gideon's relationship that for me makes it feel less like a betrayal.

I was seriously bugged about the whole thing it helps to have people with a different view because it can help open your mind to another possibility /interpretation.

I think she needs to take the SD trip without Gideon and security detail and see Brett without Cary as a buffer because she needs to be the one to firmly put an end to whatever hopes he has and be able to resist whatever overtures he may make.If she doesn't resolve it on her own for herself without any coercion it'll never really be over for her ,him and us.

I can't think Gideon will be making that trip. I mean the trip was meant to be something for Eva and Cary, so they could reconnect and Cary could try and sort through things with the pregnancy at this point. I would love to see Eva strong telling Brett she is not interested and being able to move forward. I do think security has to come because she is now "engaged" (cough, cough) to one of the worlds richest men and that comes with some wackos, also I'm not sure about this whole Russian mob thing.

  5. I was frustrated with Gideon the way he handled the situation at the hospital. I was shocked when Angus showed up and said Gideon texted him. I'm wondering when he sent the text? Angus seemed to arrive pretty quickly, so do you think Gideon sent the text before they arrived at the hospital? Maybe he didn't really want Eva going but didn't know how to tell her.  Also after he left the hospital and found Deanna waiting for him. Was she at his penthouse or Eva's apartment?

girl-waving-hand-gesture-smiley-emoticon Shan. I think he was heading back to the apartment and he ran into Deanna. I found that whole thing odd. Is she stalking him? I was wondering when he text Angus too. He seemed to be on auto-pilot on the way to the hospital and then he got into the fight and was taken away so I'm not sure when that text was sent.

  6. Hi Donnad,

Thank you for the response.  What I was getting at is that can the government just seize everything?  Wouldn't the government have to prove that Geoffrey Cross bought Elizabeth's engagement ring with ill gotten gains?  I know that there was somehthing similar with Bernie Madoff (sorry if the spelling is off) regarding one of the properties.  The government couldn't prove that his wife or her family didn't purchase the property with her family's money and as a result the government couldn't seize that asset.

I would have to think that Geoffrey Cross had money before he married Elizabeth and would have purchased that ring with that money and not the money from the Ponzi scheme. I guess the real question will be how long was Cross running that scam?  Pre-Elizabeth and marriage or post-marriage?

Nope. They sell whatever they can to recoup the loss.

  7. Hi Kirsten,

I am lost here.  Could you please explain?  How could an engagement ring be part of ponzi scheme?  Wouldn't the authorities have to prove that ring was purchased with ill gotten gains?

To pay back the stolen money almost all of the Cross' assets would have to be gathered and auctioned away. So someone mentioned earlier they were surprised Elizabeth was able to keep the ring, but I thought perhaps she wasn't allowed to, and it was sold at auction. Maybe years later Gideon came across it and purchased it.

  8. Hi Kirsten & Mam2e,

That is so interesting.  I never thought about Eva’s thoughts about Brett other than a fancy that passed a long time ago.  Eva was a different person back then.  The Eva of yesterday and today are like night and day.   I only ever thought that Eva saw Brett to keep up her cover.  Other than that I think that Brett would have wound up on the discard pile.  I don’t really think that Eva even owes Brett any kind of explanation.  She is now married to the love of her life.  What else is there to say?

I don't think she owes him and explanation either which is why I'm annoyed she is even going to see him in SD. Why bother?

  9. Hi Kirsten,

Is there a legal loophole that Gideon could have availed himself of?  What about the supporting cast of despicable characters?  Is there a Statue of Limitations for them too? From a healthcare perspective, a patient could lodge a complaint at any time regardless of when the abuse took place.  The complaint wouldn't be any less valid.

There is no loophole unfortunately. I'm sure he could file a compliant, but without anyone backing up his accusation I doubt it would have went anywhere. Dr. Terry really screwed Gideon in so many ways.

  10. Hi Kirsten,

I agree with you. Gideon’s actions are still suspect.  It seems like he is still having trouble telling Eva what is going on.  You are also right.  It was odd that Gideon disappeared after the hospital scene without a word to Eva, but I could understand why he waited until he got home to explain what was going on.  I was relieved that he eventually confided in Eva.  That shows me they are heading in the right direction.

As annoyed as I was, I also saw the light at the end of that tunnel. I was relieved that Gideon told Eva everything.

  11. Hi Kirsten,

Does the Statue of Limitations begin when the assault happened or when the person first makes a pubic outcry?  In Canada, the Statue of Limitations begins when a complaint comes forward.

I would think that Gideon case would make all kinds of legal news!  Gideon did make an outcry; to his mother but his mother didn't believe him.  He may have made an outcry to the pediatricians but they covered up the fruits of the crime.  So question here; is there a legal loophole or a way to go around that Statue?

Hi GiGi- The statue of limitations begins on the last date of abuse. The clock here really started ticking with the last time Huge touched him.

I have to disagree with both of you.  I love Eva in this book (I've loved her all along)  She is strong and working to support her man.  I think we see a different side to her, she still has flaws that she is dealing with, but she is a good person and she will do the right thing in the end.  After all that they have gone through there is no way that she will hurt him by having an affair with Brett.  She may have to take him down with her Krav Maga skills but she will do the right thing.

You know Sharon I'm torn with Eva. During my first read I was a little upset about the Brett situation, but honestly read so fast that I didn't absorb a lot of the emotion. By my second read I was like what is she thinking? I know subconsciously she is punishing Gideon, but she has to realize this at some point and stop it. Can you imagine Gideon having all of these thoughts about Corrine? We'd lynch him. I have no doubt in my mind that Eva loves Gideon. I don't think that Eva will cheat on Gideon with Brett, but I do have to admit that seeing her have all these thoughts about Brett caused me to be a bit more annoyed with her this go round. I have to believe that because she is now married to Gideon and he has laid it all out there for her, that when she is in SD she will be completely honest with Brett and hopefully that will be the last we see of him. I think the next two books while we are working on sorting Gideon out that Eva will once again be the heroine we all know and love.

  13. I still wonder when the abuse stopped for Gideon.  I think he was about 10 when it started... When he complained to his Mom and an investigation was started, did the abuse stop or what.  so confusing.  then Gideon said he told Hugh (after the statue of limitations ) that he would financially fund any civll or criminal lawsuit.  so that had to happen after he got some money (that would be after age 18)  then the suicide happened....

also, what was the point in Det Graves sparring with Eva....?  taking out frustrations that she can't win the case?  that didn't make much sense.

Still mad aboat Victor and Monica, also the Bret situation.  He is dangerous to Eva (who still thinks he is sexy as h e l l )  He will try something.  She shouldn't go to SD only with Cary....

Gideon was always in control.  Asking about birth control was one of the first questions he had for Eva at the apartment the dayof the advocacy  dinner.  He would be suspicious of Corrine if she tried to pin it on him.

    laters

The statue of limitations on sex abuse in NY is 5 years. I don't think the abuse stopped right away. Elizabeth didn't believe him which further empowered Huge to do whatever the he wanted to, to Gideon.

  14. I think it is a good thing for Eva to go to SD and I think it is good if she goes without Gideon.  He needs to show he will trust her just like he expects her to trust him.

I'm also wondering about Gideon making that trip. Eva agreed to this trip to spend time with Cary. Trying to reconnect with him is what is on the forefront of her mind. I have no doubt that Gideon will want her to fly in his plane and take along security, and Eva needs to realize that she needs that. Let's face it by Friday morning pictures of Eva and Gideon and the ring will be all over the papers. I have no doubt that Gideon will instruct his PR people to release a statement. Being the future wife () of a billionaire comes with certain safety risks that Eva must realize. She is no longer able to fight Gideon on her security, she needs it, and should accept it gracefully.

  15. Hi Sscrph,

I was wondering about what you said.  I wonder if Eva hesitated about marrying Gideon because of her fear of change or whether she was afraid that Gideon might change and revert back to his old ways (shut her out and hurt her, etc.).  What do you think? What does everyone think?

I think that Eva really thinks that Gideon will eventually leave her and she will never survive it. She doesn't have the confidence to believe that Gideon could seriously want to be with her for FOREVER. As much as Eva and Gideon have grown to trust one another, swallowing that pill of their break-up has been difficult for Eva. Of course she understands why it was done, but at the same time, she knows what Gideon is capable of doing to her emotionally and I think that is what the hesitation was.

  16. Hi Rogue,

Do you think that given different circumstances, Eva would even talk to Brett?  When I read the book I got the feeling that the only reason Eva continued to have contact with Brett was to keep up all appearances “for the detectives, etc.†  I agree with you that Eva is somehow punishing Gideon for the way he handled the entire Corinne situation.  It is clear that is still a sore spot for Eva.    What do you think? What does everyone think?

I have to say no. Saying that though I am confused as to why she agreed to see him when she was in SD. Her and Gideon are married for goodness sakes. I do think subconsciously she is doing this to get even with Gideon, but I am over Brett. Eva could never date someone like Brett. She is way to jealous and insecure. She'd be thinking about all of those girls backstage while he is out on tour.
