I'm happy too! Thank you Sylvia and Natashaisa.  I don't like that they are still living apart either. I thought it would have been continuing with Dr. Peterson's appointment and the dinner they were suppose to go to.  So I'm thinking it must be the Monday because Gideon is dressed for work and asked her to go to a business lunch.  Anybody thinking the same thing?

I think this is further into the book rather than a continuation of what is on Sylvia's website. Your guess at the Monday sounds right, she's no longer working (sweet that he misses her being in the same building). I believe there was an indication in chapter 1 that Eva was still staying apart from him - perhaps she's rushing to organise the wedding early and they get back together on their wedding night?

  2. Nathalia thanks for the reminder about Good Reads questions, I'd not visited those in a while.  Interesting she says One With You is her longest book as the Amazon blurb implies its roughly the same length as the others but they may not yet have accurate page count.  I bet OWY was the hardest to write, particularly if Sylvia had been on this site and read about our wishes for storyline answers.

She also mentions that it is June in Bared to You (first page of Reflected it is 'sliding into July' as Eva stands in Gideon's bedroom looking at him), and it is August in Captivated By You with the total timeline (including one With You) being a little over 3 months.  And fingers crossed we will get Gideon's birthday!

She also replied to a question about babies that yes, doubtless they would have them in the future as children complete a relationship.  Have to say I would be disappointed if the book ends with Eva being pregnant as that is just a same same thing as almost every other book (I mean the book ending in this 3 month timeline, not if there is an epilogue set in the future  as a pregnancy in that would be welcome).

  3. I guess (and this is all a guess) Clancy was watching Nathan rather than Gideon, as he would be protecting Eva and ensuring he knew where Nathan was.  If I'm correct he would have seen Gideon - possibly Clancy was sitting in a car outside the hotel and seen him go in and come out or even been inside the building hiding near the room Nathan was in keeping an eye on him from there (the latter more likely as Gideon could have gone in through the main entrance or the back door/staff entrance).  Either way he realised what Gideon had done.  Once he saw that Gideon had killed Nathan, Clancy's Eva protection spun into orbit and, knowing that she would be devastated if Gideon were ever charged with the killing, took the opportunity to remove the bracelet and either Clancy or his brother planted the bracelet on the guy found dead some time later.

Not sure we'll hear any more about that part of the story in One With You but we'll get closure on quite a few of the other things we are eagerly waiting to hear about.

  4. According to Sylvia (and I think she said this when she announced there would be 5 books) the first 2.5 books are about Eva, the remaining 2.5 about Gideon.  Eva was already on the way to recovery from her abuse and Gideon has only just started learning to accept what happened to him and the effect it has had on his life.

Captivated By You began resolving things that affected Gideon.  It closed the Nathan scenario with the explanation that Clancy planted the bracelet. I think it closed the Brett scenario - in Reflected Eva mentions something about Brett's voice being an attraction (can't remember the wording), during the karaoke scene in Captivated when Gideon sings discovering he too has a voice I believe finalises her feelings for Gideon as being the complete package.  However it also opened up new problems such as Corinne's book, why did Gideon's mother not tell his step-father about the abuse accusation, and Anne Lucas threats.

Gideon has now begun to open up to Dr Peterson.  The only thing Gideon cannot open up about to anyone other than Eva is killing Nathan (not sure if he's going to tell Eva about his sexual history but I'd imagine he will tell Dr P).

Sylvia posted more of Chapter one for OWY. If you read this Sylvia Thank You Thank You Thank You I knew you would come through and make me happy! I can't wait for April 5th!

not enough Gideon in that one :)  As this book is to be mostly about Gideon hope we get a lot more of his POV.

  6. Gideon was mentioned in one of her other books, Blood and Roses, Deanna in AfterBurn/Shock.  It may just be that we get glimpses of characters at events that Lily and Kane go to, could be a mechanism to give us updates on their lives as the Crossfire series does take place over a very short period of time (and we don't know if there will be an epilogue for a later time so we know their future).

It's just the two books in this series (So Close and Too Far).

  7. Response from Sylvia on Facebook to a question about this

Sylvia Day Hi, Niki. I'm not sure why they posted a June release date, when a date has not yet been set. As soon as a release date has been confirmed, I'll update my website and we'll share on social media. That said, yes, my next series will be the Blacklist series, a duet of novels following two characters you haven't met yet. It's a contemporary series, set in my beloved New York. Kane and Lily's romance spans years (instead of the handful of months covered in the Crossfire Series) and I'm very excited about it. You'll be able to start their story via an excerpt of So Close that you'll find at the end of One with You.

  8. This is the first book of Blacklist but I can't start a new section, just a thread in an existing section so here goes.  Although Penguin say they can't say much I did establish it is book 1 of Blacklist.

Penguin Australia has the following on it's site:

    SO CLOSE by Sylvia Day
There’s not much we can tell you just yet about SO CLOSE, Sylvia Day’s new novel, except that it’s due to be published in June – and we can’t wait. Stay tuned.

  9. In the elevator scene I agree that the way he acted was something to do with Hugh's 'programming' - he'd been taught that a way to relieve intense anger was to have sex of some sort, starting with m****---tion and then the abuse Hugh carried out on him.  So in his mind anger and sex must be linked, and I suspect relieving that anger would mean pretty 'hard' sex.  It also sounded like his relationship with Anne Lucas was anger based - both because her husband had lied that Gideon had suffered no abuse, and because Hugh was Anne's brother and she looked like him.  And of course Anne must have enjoyed whatever he did to her as she came back for more.  I also wondered if Anne knew that Gideon was abused by Hugh and if not, whether Gideon would say anything to her about it if there is confrontation between them???  (Not sure he would and I'm open to others opinion on that).  Anne and her family are all in the same field, as is her husband, not sure how trustworthy any of them have been over information learned during sessions.

  10. I was one who bought the e-book when it first appeared so it has been a long journey.  By the time I reached E L James books all three were available but I find Sylvia's books better written, the characters more believable.  I never really got how Ana was so immediately 'under Christian's spell' considering her innocence when they meet, whereas with Gideon and Eva it all seemed right.  (I also appreciated there was no bdsm as that is not my thing - although I suspect there may be something in Gideon's past).

I am tending now to wait for a series to be complete before reading although there are some authors I will read as the parts are published.

I'd have liked to have finished reading the Crossfire series months ago but I do understand that for the right ending to the story we've had to wait for it to be written and despite the many moans on Facebook etc. about delays, I doubt any author 'writes to order' but needs to have the inspiration.  There's no set rules for writing books or how long there should be between parts of a series and I did find some people were pretty rude 'stamping their feet' demanding the book be published.

  11. Bared to You Chapter 20 - just after Gideon tells Eva about showing Magdalene the video of herself with Christopher he says "Seeing Christopher's face on the video - seeing what he really thought of her - that hurt her.  It's hard to see yourself being used that way.  Especially by someone you think you know, someone who's supposed to care about you."

Followed by Eva's thoughts 'To hide my reaction, I busied myself with refilling both my glass and his.  He spoke as if from experience.  What exactly had been done to him?'

The next comment from Gideon is about Christopher and how Gideon tried throwing money at him, threatening him and still shown no inclination to change and that Gideon had realised long ago he could only do damage control.  I'm presuming the 'someone who's supposed to care about you' means Christopher but I could be wrong????

  12. I remembered reading a chapter a day before the release of Captivated By You and thought it a good idea to do the same for One With You.  It gives me the target of having finished reading just in time for the new book as well as continuing with my tbr list.  But also I find I concentrate a little more on what is happening in the chapter I am reading - I've certainly read Bared to You at least three times, possibly four, and am still finding bits that I don't recall reading before (obviously I have but the phrases have not stuck in my mind).

What would be good in the future is, if we feel we have unanswered questions, we were able to pose these to Sylvia and maybe she would give some outtakes or short scenes on her website to answer them?

I guess though that she is going to be busy catching up on her other series and new novels, the Blacklist books are the ones I will wait for, I'm not much into historical or paranormal fiction.

  13. I'm re-reading all the books one chapter a day, worked out when to start reading so that I read the last chapter of Captivated on 4 April (so today I'm on chapter 18 of Bared to You) so my mind is more stuck on the early part of the story.

I've just reached the scene in Gideon's car on the morning after the garden party, where Eva receives the video of Magdalene and Christopher.  Her thoughts certainly make me err on the side that Christopher is devious, not to be trusted and that there is more to it than the straightforward envy of Gideon he spoke to Eva about further in the story.

"That he was taking advantage of her was obvious.  It was there in the contemptuously triumphant look on his face as he screwed her . ."

"I didn't recognise the Christopher on the screen.  His face, his posture, his voice . . . it was like he was a different man."

There really has to be a full revelation of what happened in their childhood, it's a serious situation between the brothers which can't be dismissed in a short paragraph such as the bracelet.

  14. I agree with the last two comments that both children were abused - the only thing is whether or not either of them witnessed the other being abused - yes Christopher would be too young to realise this was wrong, but surely Gideon, knowing what was happening to himself was abuse, would have known what was happening to Christopher was unacceptable?  I guess it is possible this is one of the secrets he has not passed on to Eva so we have not yet become aware.

  15. I did wonder if the scenario was something such as Christopher also being abused, but not aware that Gideon had been (and vice versa).  The reason Hugh was brought in was because Gideon was disruptive and Christopher had begun to imitate him so it is likely Christopher was also seen by the therapist.

So could it be that, if Christopher was also abused, he blames Gideon for being the person who unwittingly enabled Hugh to abuse Christopher?  If either brother were aware the other had also been abused their relationship might have been a better one.  Christopher may well have been telling his mum what he thought was the truth  when he said Gideon had not been abused - why would Hugh do something like that in front of another child when they too could go to their parents about it?

I do hope this is a part of the story that is more fully explained for us and not given a quick write up such as the bracelet business, and how Brett was dealt with.  I'm assuming that after those few scenes in Captivated by You that he is now out of the story as there's so much to deal with regarding Gideon's other women there's little space for anything more about Brett).  We don't probably need to know much more about Deanna, but there has to be some resolution re Corrine and 'the book', and definitely a proper storyline with Anne Lucas.

  16. I'd forgotten about the scene at the apartment.  As Gideon seemed sure something about abuse was discussed, is it possible the subject was Christopher?  I doubt Elizabeth and Chris would have actually discussed the matter in front of Gideon so he was presumably out of sight but within earshot and may not have heard the entire conversation.

  17. 10 hours ago, Seattle said:

Let's start a new topic!  Why wouldn't Elizabeth tell Chris about the abuse?  Did Elizabeth stop Hugh from seeing Gideon after he told her about the abuse?  Why didn't Chris notice that the therapy sessions weren't happening any more?   These subjects were never answered in the books.

We don't know what interest Chris took in Gideon as a child - is it possible that until Gideon was a successful adult and able to save Vidal Records, Chris took little notice of him (I think I am wrong because so far Chris has always been portrayed as a nice guy but from what was written about how Gideon was after his father died he may not have been very likeable.)

We also don't know  if the abuse stopped after Gideon told his mum and went through the investigation.  As the outcome was that everyone decided he had not been abused, is it possible they allowed Hugh to continue visiting?

I'd agree that Chris being a busy man may not have been much involved in what occurred at home during the day time.  However Gideon is convinced that Chris knew - he told Eva "They discussed it at the dinner table one night, something I don't want to do."  When Eva explains that Chris seemed genuinely confused and horrified to learn of the abuse Gideon says "Then he's as conveniently obtuse as my mother.  you shouldn't be surprised."

One would think a mention of abuse of that kind, whether true or false an accusation, would register in a parent's mind and not be forgotten.

Eva wanted to keep his ring in a safe place and with easy access.  Mostly I thought it was just her engagement ring because Sylvia hasn't given us a description of her wedding band.  Sylvia is good at giving us descriptions like with the ring Gideon gave her in BTY, also the rings that Eva has bought for Gideon!.

Hopefully we will be getting another installment for chapter one soon!

The ring she was married with is the wedding ring his father gave his mother so I read it as being her wedding ring rather than an engagement ring, although the description is that of an engagement ring.  In the UK it's traditional to have the engagement ring, wedding ring and later an eternity ring but wondered if the US had a different tradition?

"I loved the timeless sophistication of it, but more so because it was the ring his father had married his mother with."

Edit:  In Captivated By You in the scene where she tells Christopher about the abuse Eva (in her thoughts) does call it an engagement ring.

  19. Maybe it's a bridal shower?  But surely a bride does enjoy her wedding day, even though there is stress involved (I can't speak from experience, as although I'm not anti-marriage I didn't want to marry my significant other, never had that feeling of wanting to marry him).

When I first read the teaser I thought maybe it was Eva's birthday  they were referring to and not the wedding...

Ages ago Sylvia advised that Eva is Aquarius (20 Jan to 18 Feb) and Gideon Virgo (23 August to 23 September) so either Gideon's birthday was completely ignored and took place during Captivated By You or there will be some mention in One With You.  I would think it odd to have specified birthdates with one being during the timeline of the books and not to actually celebrate it.

  21. Print versions of the books have the following pages (US print version):

    Bared to You     334

    Reflected in You  338

    Entwined with You 356

    Captivated By You 356

One With You Amazon.com says the print version is 352 pages.

e-books will vary as to how many pages, depending on what font size you choose so I usually discount what they say.

I  recall people felt  Captivated By You was shorter than the other books and Sylvia responded it was actually the longest.

Some of the storylines will probably be finished quickly in the way we found out about Nathan's bracelet.

I'm not sure if there will be a second wedding. They are telling people so I'm not sure if there needs to be another wedding. I'm  just thinking there is a lot of stuff to clear up and this will be the shortest of all the books. Also the other book consist of about 3 to 4 weeks in time. I'm really curious how she's squeezing in so much.  I just thing there is a lot of ground to cover other than the wedding.

I'd been thinking along those lines, now the fact they got married is known there doesn't seem much point.  But have you seen the teaser Sylvia tweeted/Facebooked yesterday where Gideon is telling Eva that the wedding should be what she wants, so presumably someone (Monica?) is wanting things her way and not Eva's?  (I'm assuming the comment is about the wedding, I could be wrong of course).
