  1. Just read chapter 5 where Gideon is in San Diego, sees Brett with the Eva stand in, and Eva ends up at the hotel with him.  Tonight it's Eva's POV while they are in San Diego (I'm reading each day's chapter late in the evening so on the last chapter I flow straight into One With You when it is (hopefully) in my kindle account just after midnight)

Just a quick note I'll think and write more tonight. I read that excerpt I got a funny feeling in my stomach (I read it quickly, I saw it in Twitter) why was he rushing out it seemed like they were arguing am I wrong? What are your thoughts?

They've been somewhere by plane, not sure why she worries he will catch cold (may depend on where they have just been?).  They've only just got home (he went straight into the shower when they got home and his hair is still wet)  As usual he is full of energy, she isn't.

I don't think they've been arguing, she's just tired and probably not really looking forward to her mom and the consequent talking about the wedding where Monica will have her own ideas which will not match Eva's.

    Hmm, Gideon in just a blue tie . . . . .  .

  3. Thanks for the info re Dr Lucas and yes, we need an answer as to why Elizabeth did that.

Doesn't Elizabeth realise her own actions have caused the rift with Gideon - she has a go at Eva for digging up the past possibly because she's scared the truth will come out??

Gideon still protects his mother by ensuring the Vidal record company keeps its head above water, but in Captivated says he sometimes hates seeing his own face in the mirror because it is so like his mothers.

  4. I read some comments on a Good Reads forum where members felt that some things were being added to the story purely for the future tv show.  I'm not sure that is the case.

    Two scenarios that were mentioned:

Megumi disappearing and reappearing and telling Eva what happened - surely this entire scenario was there for the end result of Eva deciding to get involved in the Crossroads Foundation?  Just a small side story having an effect on the main story line. (Nathan's bracelet was also a small side story - but does mean Gideon owes Clancy/Clancy's brother for the alibi).

Gideon's friends - well come on, so far we had only heard from Eva about life etc.  Gideon is not isolated, he has friends.  Once the story began to be told from his POV then there's a point to his friends appearing in the story.  He's not a loner, we already knew about Arnaldo but introducing Arash and the others isn't a ploy to get more characters for a tv series, it's surely a natural progression in the story.  He's going to need a best man, he's not friends with his brother so there had to be someone else in his life to fill that role.

All the side stories (Cary and the baby, Eva's parents, Ireland and her boyfriend) will probably have very quick outcomes, but the story of why his mother didn't believe him and why his brother hates him maybe need a bit more explanation.

There was also a comment (not sure if it was on Good Reads or Facebook) that expanding this to a 5 book series was for the tv show - no idea if that is correct or someone's supposition (some of the people writing on Good Reads do seem to have a small vendetta going on towards the author and act as if they know things when they are not the author nor someone involved with the author), but I got the impression at the time of the announcement that it was purely because the story was bigger than originally thought and to do Gideon's side of the story justice more books were needed.

I do find it odd that people loved the books and the characters, yet once it was announced there would be 5 books instead of 3 a lot of vitriol was spewed and readers began having tantrums and stomping their feet saying they would not buy any more of the author's books.  Surely if you are enjoying a story then having it extended so it is completed correctly is good?

  5. e-book lengths will vary depending on the font settings and screen size.

Looking at iBooks on my iPod Touch with the same font size each book  (very small screen) Bared to You is 606 pages, Reflected 619, Entwined 613, Captivated 602.

In print the books (using the last page of the story itself and my copies are the US paperbacks) are Bared 334, Reflected 338, Entwined 356, Captivated 356.

UK iTunes store hasn't updated the page count since I pre-ordered, Amazon have.  UK version on Kindle is said to be 463 pages and paperback 480.  UK Amazon claim Captivated is 361 pages and I assume they use the same font size for all books when quoting page numbers.

The book is 17 chapters, dual POV, looks like chapter 1 is Eva and if the book continues as Captivated with alternate chapters by Eva and Gideon the last chapter will be Eva.

  6. Sylvia Day’s duology of contemporary novels, about a young woman whose work for her family’s record label exposes her to love and loss, to be published following Day’s upcoming Blacklist duology, again to Maxine Hitchcock and Tom Weldon for Penguin UK, in a major deal, in a seven-figure deal, by Kimberly Whalen at Trident Media Group. — Publishers Marketplace (March 10, 2016)

(for me the words 'family's record label' set me thinking . . . . )

  7. Hmm, possible that Elizabeth didn't want the police involved after what she may have had to go through when Geoffrey Cross was caught out in the Ponzi scheme.  But she was risking her other child being abused as well, although I guess Gideon was an attractive child and we know Christopher is already jealous because Gideon is better looking than he is, so perhaps Elizabeth thought C was safe from abuse because he was not so attractive?  It's a horrible thought though that Gideon may have spoken to his mum quite early on in the cycle of abuse and she abandoned him to go through it until, presumably, Angus did something which got it stopped.  Not long till we find out but it is hard not to keep on speculating.

I had a brief, wild, thought that perhaps Anne Lucas was the main therapist who spent more time with Elizabeth than Gideon but that can't be as Gideon would surely have remembered her and mentioned that as a reason for how he treated her but we've been given no clue that he remembers her nor that she recalls treating him as a child.

As to Dr Lucas saying Gideon was never his patient, he could still say that even though he had been asked to examine him as a brief examination as an independent body may not count as having had the child as a patient.  As to Elizabeth consulting someone who was the brother in law of the accused molester, maybe Anne and Lucas were not married at that time and Elizabeth not aware they were in a relationship?

So many questions - not too long till we get the book, today I finish Entwined with You and begin the chapter a day of Captivated tomorrow.

  8. Deanna - according to  Gideon he used her to keep Anne Lucas  from approaching him.  'She was a mistake in every sense.  She made herself available once, and I make it a rule to avoid overly eager women a second time.'  Eva recalled how he had handled his relationship with her after they first had sex, shutting down and shutting her out, leaving her feeling used and worthless.  Gideon also mentioned he barely said more than a dozen words to her altogether.  That sounds like she was hanging around when Anne was there, Gideon picked up on the fact she was available and as they seemingly didn't speak much, they may well have gone straight to the f*ck pad.  He obviously was not really into her so when the phone rang he took the call and got himself out of  the situation of having to have sex of some kind with Deanna (possibly with toys) just because she had made herself available.

So if Deanna  did make herself available in that way with someone who had a reputation for rarely going with the same person twice, what the heck did she expect?  She's a journalist so must have been aware of who he was and his reputation.  Now, of course, as a journalist, she has the ability to investigate and 'publish the dirt'.  She's pushing the violent thing - we know from his thoughts that he was more depraved with Anne than other women (not that he lets Anne know she was anything different to the others) and that makes me think that Deanna has talked to Anne, whether as a patient or as a journalist we don't know - but as his relationship with Anne is not known by most, to me it seems likely that Deanna has been Anne's patient and maybe somehow Anne has said something to Deanna about Gideon?

And I too wonder how, if Gideon really has been with so many women, other than rumours of him being dark, no-one has said anything about what he got up to at the f*ck pad.  The fact he didn't always have penetrative sex with the women would be something that might have been discussed - he must have been picking up women who moved in the same circle a lot of the time.  The main thing that was known was the preference for brunettes, particularly Corinne who is very like his mother.  Also consider that Maggie was with him a lot of the time, she was the one Eva discovered in photos with Gideon when she first googled about him, yet Maggie doesn't let anything slip other than his attraction to brunettes (Corinne).

We know from Afterburn/Aftershock that Deanna will stoop low in her journalism career.

Does anyone know which Lifehouse song Gideon sang to Eva at the karaoke club in Captivated by You?

file_272655_1_Roman_Reigns-e138602744172My daughter found this man Roman Reigns (WWE) this is who she pictures as Gideon but with hair to his shoulders.

It makes no sense why she still denies it and why didn't she tell Chris? 23 days woo hoo!!

And why, when Chris confronted Gideon's mother over the abuse, did he then leave her?  They've seemingly had a long, presumably happy, marriage up to this revelation.  Chris's reaction to the information was great, confronting Lucas and thumping him.  But walking out on his marriage - one wonders exactly what reasons Elizabeth gave him for not having told him what happened, and as someone else mentioned, there was another child on the premises (that of course could be what he flung at Elizabeth and made him walk away . . . . )

  9. Keep the ideas coming.  Just checked out Richard Madden - he's only around 5'10" unfortunately, but he's 29 which is the right age range - I don't watch Game of Thrones but can get my hands on a copy of Cinderella so I can see how he looks on film.

Ms Mac - I've read some of the Ethan Blackstone novels and Ann Marie Walker & Amy K Rogers' Chasing Fire series whose hero was also based on Gandy.  Some of Sylvia's descriptions of how Eva saw Gideon (e.g. one where he is asleep on the bed, partially covered over and leg stretched out) did seem to fit modelling photos I've seen of Gandy.

I agree over Dakota, I thought she did fairly well as Ana but she does not have the looks that we expected from the written description.  Plus they couldn't cover every nuance of the story in a film so the film was never going to reflect the book itself.  Glad Sylvia signed with a TV company as there's more chance of most of the story being covered.

Also looked at a google image search of Scott Elrod - he's facially a little like Henry Cavill.  But sadly being 41 probably not going to look right as a 28 year old but he is 6' 2".  I ran a google image search and there's one of him without a shirt and the body looks fine.  I did the same for Richard Madden but there were no shirtless pictures.  The actor must have a good body as that is a part of Eva's attraction to Gideon.  I see Scott was in Argo which I have somewhere so will also watch that to see how he is on film.

  10. Sylvia describes Gideon as leanly built, and to me Cavill doesn't look lean (his chest is pretty big).  With Fifty Shades it seems to me a lot of actors were wary of taking on such a part, Jamie does his best and the fact he seems to have facial hair in the follow ups somehow makes him seem more the character (no idea why I feel that way as of course there was no facial hair in the book).  Whoever plays Eva needs to look 24 and be 5'3" tall and Gideon needs to be around 28 but able to look more mature and be 6'2" tall - or if either person chosen is plus or minus an inch then the other must also be.  Some of the actors suggested by people on Facebook are only 5'8" to 5'11" - the actress would then have to be really short.

It's going to be difficult to cast Gideon, Eva may be easier as there are a lot of young blonde actresses.  But whoever plays Gideon has got to be able to show a poker  face a lot of the time, have a commanding stature, be able to wear a suit in such a way that no-one else around him looks as good.

My own idea of Gideon's body is David Gandy's - as he's not an actor there's no way I see him playing the role (and these days although in the flesh he looks fine, on camera he tends to look older which wouldn't work) but when I read the physical description of Gideon's body it was David's I imagined (although with more abs than David has).

Sorry if I'm a bit pedantic there but Sylvia's descriptions of her characters are really good and are important - Gideon really has to be played by someone who does make people look twice when they see him in the street, in a restaurant etc.

Keep the suggestions coming as there's a lot of US actors I don't know about - I don't have access to Sky etc. where the US series tend to be broadcast.

  11. Yay - I won't talk about the excerpt yet to give everyone a chance to read it but how lovely Gideon is.

It's Sylvia's birthday today so I guess this was her way of celebrating it with her fans.

Happy Birthday to one of the best author's I've had the joy to read.

I think the $12 billion refers to Gideon giving Eva "ALL" of him...."ALL" he has...nothing held back!!

    I like that theory.

Also someone tweeted about the book covers, the first four have reasonably dark covers with black spines, the new one is white :

    "His Baby GIrl ‎@EnchantedAngelS

@SylDay Beautiful to see Gideon & Eva shedding their individual darknesses and the white symbolism of peace on the final cover"

Not long (I'm on chapter 18 of Entwined with You today in my chapter a day read, getting hard to hold back and not read more than one but I'm not going to 'cheat' and gallop ahead .)
  13. It gets confusing because, of course, they are already married so whatever was promised to her in the pre-nup is already hers.

My e-book tells me he said twelve bill. . . . .  when interrupted.  It's the iBook version of all four of the published novels, I've not currently got access to my print version to see if that says the same (loaned to my neighbour).

She got 10 million fro him upon the wedding (which goes with the 10 million - the 5 million from Nathan's father and the additional amount Stanton has made for her).  And she gets more each year, plus bonuses for each child, paid for going to couples therap.  Fifty per cent of everything he acquired from marriage onward was irrefutably Eva's (unless he cheated) .

But as his worth seems to be $12 billion and the figure Sylvia mentions is the same it probably does refer to his entire worth.

  14. Sylvia tweeted and Facebooked a photo of  a bride in a wedding veil - her question is 'can you guess what these items would be for Eva?' with 'these items' being something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, ... AND $12 BILLION IN HER SHOE.  (caps are the authors, not mine).

Most responses are not answering the question but one person does wonder if Gideon has bought her a company of her own - that could be interesting - or could it be money to use for the charity she is going to run?

  15. Beginning to end without sneaking a peak, I rarely look ahead in a story.  Book should, hopefully, arrive on my kindle at midnight (GMT) and I will read in bed hopefully until I finish.  I think the last book too me about 3 hours to read (although we had the head start of the 3 chapters being released early) so I should manage reading it all and get a couple of hours sleep.  I will then re-read as I'm bound to have missed subtle nuances etc.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that was sad reading RIY I said before when I read it my emotions were all over the place. Does anybody have any idea if in OWY it will be from both Gideon and Eva? Also I thought I read somewhere that there is something about March 6th and maybe more from Chapter One will be available does anybody else remember this?

I discovered from either a Good Reads or Twitter response by Sylvia that we would get two more pieces of chapter one before April.  The March 6th was just me hoping - it's Mother's Day here in the UK which could have been a reason to give us a little bit about either Monica or Elizabeth but that probably won't happen.  Hopefully though during this month we'll get Teaser Tuesdays and I think in the past there was something on Sundays??

With 31 days until OWY I am re-reading the series again.  Reading RIY. Fight scene after the concert. Curious as to why no one stopped the fight and most of all why they left Gideon alone?  He had to call to have Angus to pick him up. Angus's reply "he knows when to stop "?  Gideon could have been ganged up on or even arrested.  Thoughts anyone?

The other members of the group did notice who Brett was fighting with (the man behind the money paying for them starting their music career) so held back.  I presume everyone else there was aware who Gideon was and was not going to interfere.  The scene serves as another example of how deeply involved with Eva Gideon is.

  17. 6 hours ago, jmhope said:

That is a very good thought. Gideon did say they switched drivers during the "trip from he*l". Then my other question is how did they get back to NY what without phones or vehicle

Presumably Gideon had the entire trip organised and knew when Angus or Raul would return to collect them for the journey back to New York.   Eva had left her phone at home anyway as she hadn't expected to use it while at the concert (and had ' no place to carry it') so the fact Gideon cut himself off from any communication was a huge step in their relationship.  How many of us can say our other half has devoted themselves entirely to us without any distraction?

  18. Sylvia also responded to a tweet to say that we will get two more excerpts from chapter 1 before April.  Maybe at the start of April she'll let us have the first three chapters . . . . .   that gives us a head start to absorbing the story.  I should get my Kindle download just after midnight and I bet I won't bother sleeping until I've finished my first read of the story.

  19. Or is it a one to one business lunch in his office . . . . . . .

Not long to go, still doing my chapter a day, today it is chapter 3 of Entwined.  It's passing the time till release and I'm able to continue reading other books so clearing some of my tbr list.

  20. Suspect the reason the excerpt was handled by a blogger was because it isn't part of the first chapter so to avoid confusion wasn't put on the web site.

Do hope it is something to do with confronting those two - can't wait.  What are we going to do once the last book is out and we've dissected it and nothing more to look forward to?  Hope the Blacklist due are as intriguing.

  21. She was leaving her job on the Friday so presumably working on Friday. In the excerpt it sounds like she's just got out of bed. He's phoning from work asking her to a business lunch that day and she's asking Cary to find a hairdresser pdq so she looks good - and is she checking what he's wearing so she will wear something to complement his suit?

he could have been with her earlier as her hair is 'wildly tousled' and as she is no longer working he could have left for work without waking her (might be wrong there as he probably would wake her for a little morning excercise)

Sound like she is setting out to seduce him but doesn't plan to spend the evening with him, unless Cary is going to play gooseberry at dinner.
