Hi ladies, I just wanted to qualify my last posting. I think that if Elizabeth Vidal really did love Geoffrey Cross the way that has been suggested (i.e. that she was living an idealized life with him before the Ponzi Scheme was uncovered), then having Gideon keep the Cross surname would have been a way to honour the memory of her husband (a man whom she really loved).  When I made that comment, I did not include Geoffrey Cross' misdeeds. I was only looking at it from the perspective of a woman who really loved her husband and may not believe that the charges that were levied against him were valid. She could have been under the false impression that her husband was being railroaded. Thanks.Â

  Hi Sharon & Sheens, What amazes me most is that regardless of the location; Eva is Gideon's emotional safe place. That couldn't be any more clear than when Gideon went back into his childhood home to get Eva. He even had se* in a room where I personally suspect that he was abused in.  I think that Gideon was able to face a horrible memory (in the family library) and replace it with something beautiful, someone beautiful and a beautiful (and passionate) consensual experience. If that isn't love in action, then I don't know what is.   I don't think that the location matters per say. What matters is that Gideon has Eva to fall back on emotionally. Everything else is just a bonus.Â

Hi Sheens, Yes we discussed the beautiful beach house and what Gideon and Eva were going to do with it. Or should I say, what Gideon was suggesting (and we were whole heartedly agreeing with! ) in buying property together...sigh!Â

Hi Jls, Your theory is lovely. It puts a nicer spin on why Elizabeth Vidal didn't change her son's name. It certainly is a nicer option. I hope that is the reason or that she never even considered a name change as an option for her son.Â

  HI Sharon, You are absolutely correct. Brett's bandmates knew exactly who Gideon was/is. What I found interesting was that Brett's band got signed to Vidal Records in the first place. I never seem to think that anything is purely coincidence when it comes to Sylvia and her exceptional writing.  I have no doubt that Brett and his bandmates are very good at what they do (they would have to be in order to score a record deal), it just almost seems like we as the reader are only seeing one layer to a multi-layered scenario. I could be wrong but who knows...now we wait....  Your comments about Christopher Jr. always being second best and never in command are spot on.Â

Hi GLH, Thanks for the information.  You are correct, it is entirely possible that Brett's return may have deeper implications. Everything is always a little too convenient as far as the characters are concerned; Corinne comes back to New York, Deanna pops out of the woodwork and Brett magically re-appears in Eva's life. I would find it a little difficult to believe that his group signed with Vidal Records and not know that Gideon Cross is the half brother of Christopher Vidal Jr. Maybe it is pure coincidence but one never really knows...

Hi Sharon, Yes, you did let me know. Thank you for thinking of me. I am now in the position of having to wait for yet, another, really good book. Sigh! I really do hope that she publishes something before the end of the year. I am keeping my fingers crossed.Â

Hi Kirsten, I had a quick thought; did Elizabeth Vidal purposely refuse to change Gideon's last name because that would deflect any negative attention from her (as the former widow of the dirtbag Geoffrey Cross) and onto Gideon? Could she have thought that the general public would treat Gideon more kindly or be more willing to forgive? What do you think? What does everyone think?

I am sure that she would be able to fill in the gaps in a pinch. I have always trusted her sage counsel.  You bring up a good point though; have the US laws regarding Ponzi Schemes been changed or revised in the twenty some years, to make them more stringent or stricter? Would Geoffrey Cross gone to a "Camp Cupcake" or a Federal Bed & Breakfast like Attica?
