Hi Julie54, I am going to go with the very unpopular vote and say that this was absolutely a premeditated, cold and calculate murder. I don't find it romantic in the least either. There are so many other ways that Gideon, Monica and Stanton could have dealt with Nathan but the first thought that came to mind was murder? I don't buy it.  A crime of passion implies that the person snapped for whatever reason and then committed the crime (in this case murder), but by all accounts, Gideon may or may not have lured Nathan to his hotel with a bribe (or maybe Monica or Stanton offered this...who knows), met with him on at least one occasion, viewed photos and videos of Eva being brutally and repeatedly raped and tortured as a little girl, snapped and got into a fight with Nathan (yes I believe that Gideon punched Nathan several times- the final one landed across Nathan's face), would have been made aware of Nathan circling the building on at least one other occasion, discussed Cary's attack with Monica at the hospital, began to separate himself from Eva after the attack, starting seeing Corinne socially, made sure that the hotel security cameras where Nathan was staying were down for repair, slipped away during a Kingman Vodka Party, made his way to the hotel where Nathan was staying, lured Nathan into opening the hotel room door, killed him and then made his way back the party like nothing ever happened.  I just don't see how those actions could be considered as crimes of passion. I also don't think that "justifiable homicide" could be applied either. It appears that Gideon was in control of his faculties and was also aware of his actions and their consequences at each and every single step of the way. What do you think? What does everyone think?

Hi Jennpenn926, Do you really think it matters whether Gideon and Eva stay apart? How would that help Gideon's alibi? They broke up, yes. Eva cheated on Gideon (by kissing Brett) yes. Gideon started seeing Corinne socially after the breakup, yes. Gideon and Eva only dated for a matter of weeks before Eva broke up with him, yes. So how could the detectives glean anything to help with their case from that?  I guess I just don't see Gideon and Eva getting back together as a terrible thing (from the perspective of it making Gideon look gulity and such). Thus far, the detectives don't have any physical evidence (fibres, blood, fingerprints, etc) linking Gideon to Nathan's murder. So what difference would it make if they got back together? What do you think? What does everyone think?

Hi Jennpenn926, You bring up a really interesting point about Corinne. I wonder whether Detective Graves did speak with Corinne the night of the Kingman Vodka Party. I also wondered whether Corinne was starting to wonder whether Gideon was just using her (if in fact he was using her as a ruse). There has been so much debate about that fact.  What I never stopped to considered is how Corinne would have reacted if Detective Graves questioned her the night of the party and let something slip along the lines of Gideon was using her. I don't even know how Corinne would have reacted. I would hope that she wouldn't have thrown Gideon under the bus, but with her mental stability...who knows?

Hi Julie54, I am not sure if you got the TV show Dallas in the UK. I wonder if Sylvia will throw out a twist like they did on Dallas when Bobby got killed off and then two years later Pam (his wife) opened the shower door to find her husband very much alive. The writers explained that "Bobby's death" was all just a dream. Could Sylvia be doing something like this to her loyal fans? One can only hope.

Hi Julie54, I also wanted to add that Gideon now has to live with the fact that he murdered another human being for the rest of his life. That is an extremely heavy burden to carry around. All romance aside, Gideon is going to have to figure out how he is going to live with this fact and I think that in the grand scheme of things, these events will end up causing far more trouble than Nathan's presence ever did.  Nathan's murder will be the one thing that will remain between these two for the rest of their lives. In a way, Nathan has won the battle. The man who caused Eva so much harm in her younger days will now haunt Gideon and Eva for the rest of their adult days. How could that be considered a victory? Where is the romance in that? What do you think? What does everyone think?

Hi Julie54, I agree that Gideon has serious trust issues. I just don't think that this is as simple as it is being made out to be. Eva is a socialite and Monica and Stanton (by proxy) have all gone to a serious amount of trouble to protect Eva's reputation. Monica and Stanton even agreed (in the end) to payoff Nathan's blackmail. It also appears that Gideon may have been colluding with Monica (and maybe Stanton), the Monday night after Cary was attacked.  What I don't understand is that with all of Gideon's money (Monica's/Stanton's money) how on earth could none of these individuals have had any faith that the law would protect them? Nathan was blatently trying to commit extortion. He was also in possession of physical tangible proof of his brutal rapes and torture of Eva (presumably), and his documentation of said crimes is considered to be child . How could none of these well educated individuals have not thought for one minute that Nathan would be charged and convicted of these crimes?

Hi KiMa, I like your thinking! I was wondering what if Sylvia was throwing out another "red herring" of sorts? What if this is a way to stir up everyone and then dish out another surprise in June? I agree with you, I think that I too will wait until June to see if Gideon's fate is sealed.

Hi Jls1216, How could Gideon have not believed in the system? Gideon supposedly told his mother about the abuse and she didn't do anything about it. Sylvia did not make any mention of Gideon saying something to anyone else. It is unclear if Gideon confessed that the abuse was going on to the doctors that examined him (but hopefully there was physial evidence to support his mother's suspicions).  So I guess my question to you is how could Gideon have been so jaded toward the system? His mother and his family, yes I could completely see that scenario but the criminal justice system, I don't know? Please explain. Thanks in advance.

Yes! Finally!! I agree!! Gideon was committing premeditated murder and there is nothing romantic about that!Â

Hi Mrs.CrossXxXxX, I agree with your position. I think that there were so many other ways Nathan could have been dealt with; including a nice long lengthy prison stay (he could have been charged with so many criminal offenses that would have ensured that Nathan probably would have gone to jail for the rest of his life). It almost seems that yet again everyone didn't trust that Eva could be capable of testifying against Nathan in a trial, so for convenience sake and for the sake of their reputations and good names, it was easier to kill Nathan. What do you think? What does everyone think?

Hi MrsCrossfire, I know that the concept of "I'd kill for you" sounds romantic, but in all reality we are talking about premeditated murder. What is so romantic about that? There are so many ways that Gideon, Monica and Stanton could have dealt with Nathan. As soon as that man walked in the door with videos and photos (presumably of Eva being raped and tortured when she was a child), any one of those individuals could have called the cops and it would have been game over for Nathan, but somewhere deep down inside everyone decided that the best way to deal with Nathan was to kill him....where's the logic in that?!  The police would have arrested Nathan and then begun their investigation, which would have lead to all the evidence of Nathan stalking Eva and that would have resulted in more charges and given the fact that there was documented evidence of Nathan brutally raping and torturing Eva, Nathan would have gone to prison for a VERY LONG TIME if not for life.  So I guess my question for you is why choose murder when there were so many other viable options that would have secured Eva's safety for a lifetime? What does everyone think?

Hi everyone, I have to say that I am a little sad. Our beloved Gideon is now a murderer. That kind of stinks! I was really hoping that someone else did the "dirty Nathan deed". I know this is supposed to be an erotic romance, but I don't find it all that romantic that Gideon killed Nathan.  Yes, yes I know that Nathan was scum. I just wish it was someone else. Is anyone else disappointed by this news? What does everyone else think?Â

Hi KiMa, No worries, I understood what you were referring to.

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to clarify that Gideon's mother wasn't a brunette. In Bared To You pg. 219 Sylvia writes "...His mother and sister had his colouring, both women boasting the same glossy obsidian hair and thickly lashed blue eyes." It seems that both Elizabeth Vidal  and Gideon share the same beautiful raven hair so I don't know if the brunette theory would apply. I don't think that hair colour is the issue. What does everyone think?Â

 You are too hilarious!

Hi Everyone, Thanks for the information.  I wonder what Sylvia will come up with if she extends the series to five books? Thus far, we the readers have had to suffer through, long agonizing waits (for the books), and only two week increments. If this keeps up, I will probably have found a husband, gotten married and maybe even had a child before Eva and Gideon finish working out their issues (just kidding...sort of ).Â

Hi Julie54, Now there's a slogan to build a campaign on!

Sigh! Today a dream has died. It is official, Gideon killed Nathan...Yuck! So much for Monica and her crazy antics...unless Sylvia is waiving another "red herring"...I know, I know, this one will be hard to accept. Sigh!

Hi Jennpenn926, You make a really good point about the timeline of Nathan's murder. How could Gideon have left the Kingman Vodka Party, got to Nathan's hotel room, lured Nathan into opening the door, killing Nathan and then get back to the Party within a 30 minute time span? I don't buy it. So many things could potentially go wrong and I don't think that Gideon would have left anything to chance and as such couldn't have been capable of committing this murder in such a short amount of time. I would also think that if Gideon did indeed commit this murder, he would have been walking very fast or even running or jogging to get to his destination, commit the murder and then have to run back. Wouldn't someone have noticed Gideon's flushed or sweaty appearance? Gideon would also have had a lot of adrenaline running through his veins and I am sure that it would have been very obvious to the guests at the party (that something was up or going on with Gideon). I also don' think that Gideon could have explained his physical symptoms or his appearance to his guests for such a minor incident at the hotel. If there was a large fire at the hotel then yes I could have seen all of those physical pieces making sense to the guests, but not for a minor situation as a kitchen fire. I was lead to believe that the kitchen fire was a minor one and that the fire department was called as a matter of protocol and safety and not because the kitchen went up in flames. What does everyone think?

Hi Jeanmarie, I think that Sylvia would post the first chapter of the third book on her www.sylviaday.com website. I think there must be a section somewhere or you could use her search engine that would link you to the first chapter of the up-coming book.  Another website that sometimes posts previews of up-coming books is also www.goodreads.com . All you would have to do is use that websites' search engine and look up Sylvia Day's book. I hope that helps.

Hi everyone, What does HEA mean? If someone could let me know it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in adance.

Hi Julie54, I agree with your thoughts. I don't think that if Gideon did indeed kill Nathan (which I personally don't think), it would surely take longer than two weeks to sort out a legal mess. I think that we have all been watching too many CSI and Criminal Minds episodes.    I don't know if I would like the storyline ending with a cliff hanger...sigh! That would mean that I would have to wait another...how many more months before I got answers?! Sigh! My money is on Monica too! Maybe Sylvia will pin this murder on some other scumbag who has committed many horrible crimes or maybe Monica could plead temporary insanity.  Which is where I will be headed if I have to wait another six plus months to get answers. Sigh!
