1. Hi Everyone,
Is anyone else having difficulty posting? I try posting something and nothing seems to be posting correctly. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?
2. Hi Everyone,
I just looked up BTY on page 331, Gideon mentioned that he didn't often have time to speak with Corinne. What I wonder is just how often did Gideon speak with Corinne. I want to know just how far did Corinne stretch the truth (if you can even call it that)? I also wonder whether Gideon called Corinne. Was he inadvertently feeding into Corinne's delusion (false hope...sigh)?
3. Hi LNCronan, Is it what Brett said about Eva or is it what Gideon saw when Brett showed up at the Crossfire Building and when they went out to lunch? If Gideon had security detail on Eva before Nathan was killed then I am sure that Gideon would have continued to have Eva’s movements tracked. What if one of Eva’s security details reported back to Gideon that they were both spotted having lunch together? Gideon probably saw with his own eyes Brett and Eva meeting in the lobby of the Crossfire Building. Do you think that would be enough to set his insecurities off?Â
4. Hi LNCronan, I agree with your agree to disagree thing. I guess for me, the problem with the theory was always the level of hatred that Gideon would have harboured for Corinne. At the end of the day, Corinne didn't kill one of his loved ones, she wasn't torturing family pets. What she did was nasty (no doubt about it), but I think that Gideon would have tempered his anger toward Corinne because of the feelings he once had for her. I also think that if Gideon grew a little, he would have realized his part in this entire mess. That's ok though. I will be Captain of Team Monica/Stanton/Clancy killed Nathan. Someone has to take up that position and I like the challenge. I don't know if you remember the show "Dallas". Their famous episode was "Who Shot J.R.?" and there was a huge list of likely suspects. At the end of the day, the person they thought that shot J.R. didn't (public opinion at the time was the Sue Ellen- J.R.'s wife shot her husband). I just think that it would too easy and too convenient if Gideon killed Nathan. There are so many legitimate suspects to choose from in this instance that I don't know if Sylvia would have gone with the obvious choice (i.e. Gideon). Ultimately we will all find out on June 4th. Â
5. Hi ShazScott1980, How would the paparazzi find out that Eva is the girl in "Golden"? I think that Eva would have kept a low profile, even back in her groupie days. Do you think that someone in the band spilled the beans or maybe even Brett himself? How do you think that they would have made the connection? Any thoughts?
6. Hi Sscrph, I really hope we get to see Victor in the next book. I have so many unanswered questions that I hope will be resolved in the next book. How much did Victor know about what was going on in his daughter's life? Will Eva tell him about her past? WIll Monica reveal the secrets that she has been hiding from Victor? Will Victor be able to forgive Monica for hiding such a huge secret from him? See more questions...
7. Hi Sscrph, That is a good question. I hope that Sylvia gives us a few more snippets...sigh! All this waiting is torture!
8. Hi LNCronan, I agree that it would probably be better at this point for Cary to remain in the dark about Gideon and Eva. That boy likes to make “mischiefâ€. I seriously can’t figure out what Cary’s motives are for keeping Eva in the dark about Brett. I don’t know if he is testing Eva’s relationship with Gideon or whether he doesn’t want Eva to be with Gideon. I can completely understand Cary’s reservations about Gideon. Quite frankly Gideon hasn’t had a stellar reputation when it comes to Eva. You also bring up another very good point, will Cary find out about Gideon’s deep dark past? I wonder if that would sway Cary’s opinion of Gideon. Again there are so many questions that are followed by more questions and so on and so on and so on…
9. Hi Sscrph, I like the idea of Gideon and Eva getting away together. I wonder how Gideon could have made that happen given all of the turmoil and suspicion that they are both under. I can hardly wait for June 4th...sigh!
10. Hi LNCronan, It almost looks like either terry cloth towels or maybe even bed sheets. I couldn't honestly tell from the photo. Maybe the photo quality is a little different on my computer. Anyway, if they are towels, could it be that Eva is getting a "wedding shower gift"? Could Eva and Gideon be moving in together? Hmmm....?
11. Hi LNCronan, I guess for me the question is: Why now? Why would Brett choose now of all the times to contact Eva? It seems like several years have passed between the time Brett and Eva were dating (if you can even call it that, more like just having s**), so why pick now as the time to contact an old "groupie"? Any thoughts?
12. Hi LNCronan, I guess it will remain to be seen whether the "good detectives" have any more information. Thus far the reader has been lead to believe that Detective Graves only has theories and speculation. I can hardly wait for June 4th, so we can finally put some of these lingering questions to rest.
13. Hi AMC, That is a good question. I certainly would like to know the answer to that question. Thus far in our cumulative speculations, many have felt that Gideon was having Nathan followed. If that is the case then when did the security detail start following Nathan and when exactly did Nathan show up on Gideon's radar (of sorts)? One question always seems to lead to another...it is never ending. Maybe Sylvia will be kind and throw us a snippet or two about our ponderings...sigh!
14. Hi LNCronan, You bring up some interesting points. I think in the end what the reader knows for sure is: Where ever Nathan was; he had time to stew about what had happened to him (i.e. more importantly who had put him there…Eva…and her mother). Nathan would have had time to build his hatred of Eva and her mother. Nathan would have had the opportunity to perfect his crimes of choice; rape and torture (perhaps on other victims, etc. if he was still a free man). Nathan may have been exposed to other criminals through a juvenile detention setting and thus would have had time and the opportunity to figure out how to perfect his crimes of choice (i.e. not leaving evidence of witnesses behind next time). Given Nathan’s hatred of Eva, he may have begun stalking her and tracking her movements. In the early days I am sure that Nathan wouldn’t have had anything really substantial to go on, but Nathan had time and lots of it. So eventually Nathan hit the jackpot, Eva was mentioned in the society section of the newspapers. I think that if Nathan had been locked up for his crimes against Eva (in a mental institution or in juvenile hall), then Monica would have been privy to that kind of information. She would have been there during the proceedings against Nathan during the civil litigation. I don’t think that Nathan would have wound up in Juvenile Hall. To me that reeks of a criminal conviction. Civil litigation would have entailed punitive damages which were awarded to Eva (five million dollars more specifically). Nathan may have wound up in Juvenile Hall over other crimes, but that is strictly speculation. We the readers have no information about Nathan, only that after eight years he resurfaced and was looking for Eva. It appears that he had quite an axe to grind with her. In the end he is the one who got “axedâ€. I just couldn’t resist…sigh!
15. Hi LNCronan, Is it possible that each person bought their ticket individually and then met up? Magdalene would have a reason to buy a ticket if she knew that Gideon was going to be attending. She probably knew several people at the event asides from Gideon so it wouldn’t be such an unusual thing for her to attend solo. Christopher Jr. (the slime bucket that he is) is the brother of Gideon. He is eligible and one of the higher ups with Vidal Records, so it wouldn’t be seen as unusual for him to attend an event without a “plus oneâ€. Hey I just also thought of something; when do you think that Magdalene found out about Gideon and Eva? Do you think that Gideon spilled the beans about his relationship with Eva or do you think that Magdalene got a rude awakening when she saw Gideon with Eva at the Advocacy Dinner? What do you think? What does everyone think?
16. Hi LNCronan, I think that Corinne’s name would probably have been added automatically and unless someone was specifically looking to make sure that she wasn’t on the guest list, then Gideon may have overlooked that small detail. It is a thought and a theory. This is a man who is busy running an empire and I am sure that he wouldn’t be checking each and every guest list of every event he sponsors etc. He and Corinne are also friends and as such he probably wouldn’t have been expecting to see Corinne or that she didn’t express an interest to him about attending (in their daily phone calls-more apt her daily phone calls to him) that particular event. I think that this was a situation that Gideon didn’t anticipate and as such wasn’t paying attention to that aspect. I think that if Corinne had previously been invited to these events, her name would have been placed on future fundraiser invitation lists. Corinne may have sent generous donations in lieu of her attendance. I also just wanted to clarify that the “ultra wealthy†receive special invitations to attend charity fundraisers. They absolutely do receive “invitationsâ€. The people who organize these events absolutely want the elite at their fundraisers. The ultra elite bring in extra media attention; more corporate donations and they themselves come in with sizable (HUGE) donations as well. Make no mistake about it, these individuals receive special invitations! These individuals also receive special treatment. If you keep the ultra wealthy guest happy then they are more inclined to give more sizable donations. I do have to wonder how often Gideon called Corinne. In Bared To You, Gideon let it slip that he and Corinne speak on a daily basis. I have to wonder how much of that Gideon initiates or whether it is Corinne who always calls him . I also wanted to clarify that depending on the charity event, some tickets may be available but a good percentage of the seats would be by invitation only status. These charities want the money and the connections for MORE MONEY. The average Joe may not have these connections or the coffers to help a charity or foundation.
17. Â It seems that Elizabeth jumped from the frying pan straight into the fire! Sigh!
18. Hi Donnad, Thus far, many in the forum have surmised that Elizabeth’s marriage to Christopher Vidal Sr. as one of convenience. Elizabeth Cross (at the time) was probably in a very desperate situation. She most likely wasn’t aware of her husband’s ponzi scheming ways. So it must have come as a huge shock and surprise when she lost her home, possessions, valuables and money. As such she may have gone looking for a provider for her and her son. Enter Christopher Vidal Sr. I know that I personally never stopped to think that Elizabeth Cross may have been having an affair with Vidal Sr. There wasn’t anything written in the books, but who knows, thus far, we the readers have so very little to go on and as such have been wildly speculating about theories and such… I think that it probably would have been very easy for Elizabeth to find herself another husband. She was a socialite and as such would have been in good standing (at least for a while anyway), but I am sure that she was probably very beautiful, well bred and had a good family background (her original family name prior to marrying Gideon’s father). I wonder if Sylvia will take pity on us and throw us a “bone†by way of a snippet or two about the many theories that we have all been discussing…sigh! June 4th come quickly please.
19. Hi Mrsmajessick, Could you please explain what the criterion is for justifiable homicide? Does Gideon's case fall under the justifiable homicide umbrella or is it a case of a premeditated murder scenario? Your help with this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
20. Hi LNCronan, I just wanted to point out that there isn’t one piece of physical evidence (not one shred…), no finger prints, no fiber evidence, no blood evidence, no foot prints, no videotape, no documentation….no nothing! The DA would only have supposition and speculation. I think that in itself would be a cause for concern for any DA who would be considering trying a case like this. Just because Gideon’s dad was a ponzi schemer and committed suicide doesn’t mean that Gideon would follow in his father’s footsteps. I don’t think that a DA could reasonably correlate one with the other. I don’t know what the criterion is for justifiable homicide but I am not sure that Gideon would even fit that criterion. If what you say is true, then Gideon planned this entire situation and to me that reeks of premeditation. I will have to as Mrsmajessick for clarification on that end. Finally I just wanted to also clarify that Gideon is a billionaire first and a public figure second. Any DA who would be foolish enough to consider taking on a case like this would also have to realize that Gideon has billions of dollars at his disposal for his defense and NO DA would have those types of coffers to try that kind of case. At the end of the day, you can’t sell suppositions and facial expressions to a jury.
21. Hi Sscrph, I agree with you. I don't think that any DA, in his/her right mind would touch a case like this with a ten foot pole. I agree with what Mrsmajessick said. There simply isn't any evidence. This entire case is based on supposition and speculation and a detective's theories. The point is, the case wouldn't be a winnable one and if a DA was stupid enough to try a case like this; he or she would be committng career suicide.
22. Hi Donnad, Your theory about Cary having contacted Brett is an interesting one. I wonder if Sylvia will address how and why Brett came into contact with Eva. It will make for an interesting piece of dialogue. Thus far, I am still on the fence as to whether Cary did make contact with Brett or not. I don’t know why he would do that if he did. Cary knew how much Eva liked Brett back in the day, but he also saw how Eva degraded herself and her body with Brett and also how badly that devastated her when they were in group therapy together. What do you think? What does everyone think?
23. Hi LNCronan, I just quickly wanted to add that when Gideon took Eva to the Advocacy Dinner he was adhering to the tenants of their first agreement and not the revised edition (as was later agreed upon in Gideon’s office over lunch). I also wanted to thank you for clearing up that little snippet snafu. I have read about so many marks (claw, scratch, or otherwise,), that it gets a little interesting in keeping up with everything. It is almost like playing a game of “Where’s Waldo?†with all the snippets and photos.
