I know he ignored her in that meeting, but I'm thinking that Mark was probably the only one who picked up on it. I'm sure everyone else was just focused on the business.  The coffee i definitely think is hers because he takes his black.

Hi jls I totally agree about Mark being the only one to pick up on Eva's humiliation; at least I hope so and there is also a swirl of creme in that coffee so it is definitely Eva's.

Mr. Waters, one of the agency owners who was there, likely knew Eva was instrumental in that Kingsman account getting awarded to the agency, because she was a huge help at the first meeting -- Gideon even asked Eva for her opinion on things. Though Mark, not Eva, who got the actual high-fives back in June when the contract got signed.

Waters had to have known that all summer thus far there had been all sorts of news and stories (from red carpet pictures to tabloid candids) showing Eva was Gideon's new girlfriend. Because not only is Gideon a client, Gideon is a celebrity. So Mr. Waters would have thought it was really weird that other than saying "Miss Tramell" once in Eva's direction, Gideon acted like she wasn't even in the room during that big meeting. (In fact, he was sending a (false) message he'd totally rejected Eva. Everything was riding on it -- there were mere hours left before Nathan was gonna die that night.)

But yes, Mark would have been the only one knowing about the ugly details -- especially about the whole mess after the concert the prior weekend. Shawna, Eva's friend who had the tickets, is practically Mark's sister-in-law, and she was there. Mark never would have revealed any of the dirt about that at the office -- he's a wicked nice guy and really is thrilled to have Eva as his assistant. But there had to have been (probably still is) speculation around the water cooler that Eva went from being a celebrity girlfriend to getting ignored by Gideon at the Crossfire.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to clarify that Gideon couldn't have gotten Eva's birth control pills. Birth control pills can only dispensed by prescription only. Seeing as Gideon doesn't have a uterus, there is no way that boy could get his hands on those pills.

Even if someone wanted to go to a "free clinic" to get birth control pills for a "friend", the person who was going to take the pills would have to come in for an examination first. No uterus Gideon-no birth control pills. :)

Hi Jls1216,

You made a good observation about how Eva likes her coffee. I didn't pick up on it until I looked at the photo again and saw that there was milk added. Do you think that means that this clue is about Eva?

Hi LNCronan,

I just wanted to clarify with you, why would Eva have a black mark against her? Thus far Eva’s work and performance at the ad agency has been stellar. It wouldn’t be that unusual for an assistant to not attend the Kingman Vodka Party. Usually it is only the ad executives and higher ups that would be invited to that kind of shindig. So surely that couldn’t be used against her.

Do you think that Eva sleeping with Gideon is going to have a negative effect on her work life? If anything, Eva sleeping with Gideon has had a positive effect on her ad agency. They landed the account because of it (indirectly of course). A black mark implies that Eva has not fulfilled her duties and that it has been noted.

Or could it be that Mark eventually becomes resentful of Eva. She is this young, inexperienced assistant, who just happens to be sleeping with the boss, gets all the breaks (compliments of Gideon) and accolades for her contributions all the while, Mark sits in the background with all the experience in the world, who had to work like a dog to get where he is, is now overshadowed by the young Eva. What do you think?

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to toss something out to all the group members; do you think that Shawna went home after the concert and blabbed to her brother and brother-in-law about what happened at the concert or do you think that she just kept that information to herself? What does everyone think?

Hi LNCronan,

No one would have known that Eva was sexually involved in the early stages about her relationship with Gideon except for maybe Mark. I don’t think that he would have said a thing to the higher ups about that. It wouldn’t make sense for his professional career. It would be like he was back in his school days and was “telling on someoneâ€.

As such I don’t think that any of the ad executives would have noticed whether Gideon was giving Eva the “cold shoulder†or not. They were there to discuss business. It also wouldn’t have been appropriate for Gideon to be directing his attention toward Eva. She is nothing more than a level entry assistant and as such would have had no voice during the meeting. If anything it would have been highly irregular for her to be speaking or voicing her opinions.

If anything Gideon was acting inappropriately toward Eva during that first meeting. He should have been directing his comments and questions towards Mark. I also don’t think that Mark would have necessarily correlated Gideon’s reaction or lack thereof as something more sinister. I guess it all comes down to whether Mark talked with Shawna about what happened at the concert.

Hi Everyone,

Wow, could this snapshot be about Eva and the new guy she was training towards the end of RIY? I can't remember his name, but I'm sure you guys know who I'm talking about. Every character fills a role and to bring in a new character that close to the end of the book just to give Eva something to do at work doesn't seem like something Ms. Day would do. Could he try and cause a little trouble between Eva and Gideon - another guy that wants Eva? And, if Eva and Gideon are still undercover, will Eva use this new guy as her "plus one" like Gideon uses Corinne? What do you guys think?

Yes she did tell her brother as in Refeclted the Wednesday after Cary's attack when Eva was having lunch with the fellas Steven says " but then you have to kinda expect it when you're juggling rock stars and billionaires". At that point Eva is aware that Shawna told him what happen at the concert.!

Gigi,

I DEFINITELY think that Shawna told her brother/brother-in-law about what happened that night!

 Riding in Gideon's limo,

eating at Tableau One (where Shawna and her boyfriend wanted to eat  but the waiting list was 2 months long),

meeting Arnoldo and having him as her escort,

 meeting Nine Inch Nails back-stage,

the fight with the lead singer (Brett) and Gideon,

THEN finding out that Eva was Golden Girl!

That was a night to remember! Shawna would have to share it with SOMEONE!    LOL!

I put this in the spoiler thread, but re-posting it here:

http://www.sylviaday.com/2013/03/27/entwined-snippet-10/

The server will crash shortly due to fans rushing there, so here's the text. BRETT IS BACK!!!!!

Brett smiled. “Don’t go anywhere.â€

He bounded off. Cary and I walked over to the tent bearing the Vidal Records logo. Protected from the crowds by private security, it was a tiny oasis in the madness of Times Square.

“Well, baby girl, you’ve got your hands full with him. I forgot how it was with you two.â€

“Was being the operative word,†I pointed out.

“He’s different from before,†he went on. “More… settled.â€

“That’s great for him. Especially with all that’s going on in his life right now.â€

He scoped me out. “Aren’t you even the slightest bit interested in seeing if he can still bang you brainless?â€

I shot him a look. “Chemistry is chemistry. And I’m sure he’s had plenty of chances to bone up on his already fabulous skills.â€

“Bone up, ha! That’s punny.†He waggled his brows at me. “You seem solid.â€

“Ah, now that would be an illusion.â€

“Well, look who’s here,†he murmured, turning my attention to Gideon, who was approaching with Ireland at his side. “And heading straight toward us. If there’s a brawl over you, I’m watching from the bleachers.â€

I shoved at him. “Thanks.â€

Irony alert

Gideon took Corrine as his "date" to a very carefully orchestrated publicity event for a company he owns outright, Kingsman Vodka, including making sure there were extremely orchestrated pictures with his arm around Corrine, having a great time.

Snippet ten gives us a glimpse of what appears to be a very carefully orchestrated publicity event for Vidal Records. Eva's there -- so is her "ex." Brett. Safe to say media is there (that's the whole point of PR events.) Seems to be that someone's about to get a candid picture of Brett and Eva next to one another.

HAH!!!

And as an added bonus, people will read Gideon was there too. Gideon who is nothing more (to the world) than an "ex-boyfriend of Eva" as well. But the huge difference is, Brett can tell the whole world he's trying to win Eva back. If Gideon and Eva are still keeping their love secret, then Gideon's gotta keep his public mouth shut. He can't even complain to Brett, let alone punch Brett. Nor can he retaliate in any financial way toward Brett -- that'd show jealousy, which in turn would give the cops evidence Gideon in fact does still love Eva.

Double HAH!!!!

And yes, I am being snarky a bit -- but Gideon so horribly handled the whole way he made the world think he didn't love Eva, handled it so badly Eva herself believed it. Gideon's control-freak plan began to unravel from day one  -- and it's continuing to spin off beyond his control at a time when more than ever, he'd want to lay public claim to Eva he's gotta let the whole world believe she's free for the taking and Mr. Rebound Brett is first in line to try to win her.

Seriously, though -- Gideon asked Eva to trust him blindly about Corrine back when Gideon was behaving in a way (lying by omission to Eva) that gave Eva every single good reason to NOT trust him. But on her own, facing her own inner demons while Gideon still was lying to her, Eva herself came to trust Gideon wasn't sleeping with Corrine and never would again.

Now Gideon, by his own doing, is forced into a position where he's got to trust Eva about Brett. No matter what Brett tries to say or tries to do to win Eva back, Gideon has got to trust none of it will work. And now Gideon's got the scarier task, because Gideon knows a part of Eva does want to jump Brett's bones, while Eva is safe knowing Gideon doesn't desire Corrine at all.

Great growth opportunity for Gideon to work on his own inner demons about insecurity and jealousy.

I'm glad this scene shows a chance for Ireland to interact with Eva -- because honestly, among the ways Eva's love is changing Gideon for the better, Eva will be the reason Ireland finally gets to know the big brother she hero worships from afar but has never gotten to know.

Because the very sad reality is that it looks like Gideon never bonded with Ireland -- never bonded because of the horror of what happened to him shortly before Ireland was born. It was the problem pregnancy that resulted in the shrinks being brought in for Gideon, then he got shuffled off to the side when the main shrink instead started paying attention to Elizabeth, not Gideon. By the time Ireland was born, Gideon was a pre-teen who had been raped and then labelled a liar by his own family.

I picture him as having spent his teens in a shell, and the baby girl was inexorably linked to the horror that befell him, so he'd never love that baby, nor open up to the little girl Ireland grew into. She would have been barely grade school age when Gideon was 18 and left home (probably to move into the dorms when he started attending Columbia University.)

Ireland herself told Eva she didn't know Gideon well because he moved out when she was still pretty young. Given that Gideon would have visited home only reluctantly at best back when he was college age and early 20s, he would have rarely seen Ireland. The fact that in recent years he refused to step foot in the Vidal mansion means he probably never saw Ireland period (not unless the reason Elizabeth was visiting Gideon's penthouse was to bring his teenaged sister along.)

When he did crash that Vidal garden party to fetch Eva, the first time he'd been at the manstion in what must have been years, Eva was the one who made him talk to Ireland. Eva was the one who invited Ireland along to the meet-my-Dad dinner (that ended so badly, alas). I'll bet Ireland really liked Eva, even though Gideon "dumped" her, and Ireland would still welcome the chance to see Eva.

Maybe even Ireland is the "safe cover" for Gideon to approach Eva in this snippet. The excuse "Ireland saw Eva and wanted to go over to say "hi" and so dragged Gideon along to go with her to see Eva." I'll bet maybe Gideon, seeing Brett buzzing around Eva, was trying to desperately figure out some plausible way to approach Eva -- and Ireland turned out to be a godsend.
